IDEATION


Original Problem Statement There are a vast number of rehabilitaion toys on the market. Most of these toys focus on the development of a single skill rather than multiple skills. This may cause the user to quickly out grow or become bored with the toy. Few of these toys have the a b i l i t y t o b e c o m e m o r e d i ff i c u l t as the user grows and develops. S u c h t o y s a r e o ft e n o v e r p r i c e d and when outgrown force parents, schools, and programs to purchase new ones.


Original Opportunity Statement There is an opportunity to d e ve l o p a n a d a p t i ve c h i l d re n ’s toy that promotes grasp and release abilities including both fine and gross motor skills, and problem solving skills. This toy needs to be multi-functional and have the ability to progressively become more challenging as the user grows and develops and becomes more familiar with the toy.

Final Problem Statement There are a vast number of “shape sorting” toys on the market. A large number of these toys are made out of hard brittle plastics. These toys have lost the “magic” that older wooden toys carry. Most of these toys also only focus on the developmental of a single skill. These toys also give little to no feedback.


Final Opportunity Statement There is an opportunity to develop an adaptive children’s toy that promotes the development of fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and problem solving and reasoning. This toy needs to be made of strong hardwood and have strong sensory feedback to keep the child from growing bored.
