COOLING TOWER UPGRADE
M Davis worked as part of an Integrated Project Delivery team to design/build a cooling tower complex. Concurrent with the existing towers being demolished, and site improvements made, we fabricated and assembled the new cooling tower modules. This work included structural steel, stainless steel piping, power and control wiring.
Collaborating with the customer to implement this project using a design-build strategy within a modular framework resulted in a schedule reduction of over one year and yielded savings of $2.5 million compared to the original budget allocated for execution via the traditional full design/stick-build methodology.
This project won an Excellence in Construction Award in 2019

FLARE GAS TO METHANOL SKID
M Davis & Sons assisted with the engineering and design of a trailer-mounted skid for M2X Energy that converts flared natural gas to methanol. The work included placing heavy equipment onto the trailer, which we modified. Compressors were installed and use of 3D modeling was critical for the M. Davis team to ensure the frames, guards, and piping connections would fit properly.
Our electrical team fabricated the high and low electrical panels which were customized due to space limitations. Connections were critical due to vibrations caused by travel of the trailer. Innovative solutions made by M. Davis helped to bring this project home for M2X. Solutions such as airbag installation to isolate compressor vibration was key to success on this project. We successfully met an aggressive schedule that others deemed unachievable, enabling the customer to effectively demonstrate the technology and secure the next round of funding. The skid is successfully working and is currently located on site in North Dakota.
This project won an Excellence in Construction Award in 2023

CASE STUDY
PHARMACEUTICAL PROCESS SKID
M Davis & Sons was contracted by a pharmaceutical company to model, fabricate, and install the pharmaceutical process for their 30,600-square-foot addition to their existing facility in East Windsor, NJ. The project involved:
3-D modeling of the process.
Coordinating with building design for access and rigging steel.
Generating isometric drawings for fabrication.
Fabricating carbon and stainless steel support steel including S/S stairs and rails.
Fabricating and installing S/S sheathing and dropped ceiling.
Re-tubing and modifying used heat exchangers to accept a different heat transfer fluid.
Modifying and repairing used temperature control modules.
Modifying ASME vessels and apply “R” stamp.
Assembling process skids in our facility.
Calibrating used instruments
Providing control panels to integrate with existing Delta V system.
Installation
The construction of the facility and our nine-module assembly occurred simultaneously, effectively reducing the project timeline by nine months and enabling production to commence ahead of schedule.

CASE STUDY
ISOBUTANOL PROCESS SKID
A joint venture by two of our customers resulted in the opportunity for us to assist and advise on the design of a module we fabricated for a proprietary process. We fabricated the 100,000lb., 13’ x 15’ x 65’ module in our shop; had it shipped to the customer site; and then our on-site team took on the task of rigging, setting and installing the module.
This large module was fully assembled and commissioned in our facility prior to shipment, significantly minimizing field commissioning time that would have otherwise occurred under subzero winter conditions.
Our ability to assist in the design process insured that when the unit made it to the site that the installation was seamless and according to plan.

PHARMACEUTICAL MODULAR PIPE RACKS
M Davis was engaged by a major pharmaceutical manufacturer to partner in an integrated project delivery system. Our deliverables included:
Design assistance utilizing Revit 3-D modelling.
Structural steel design/fabrication/erection.
Modular pipe rack fabrication/installation.
HVAC and Process mechanical including high purity piping.
Coordinated design/installation with clean room manufacturer.
Total Station field layout.
The core and shell aspects of the project were managed by different engineering firms. We successfully integrated various modeling packages, transforming the stick-built design into a Building Information Model (BIM). This allowed us to effectively execute the installation of loaded pipe racks concurrently with the clean rooms
