MCS Auction Coming Up!
By Ellie Gill
This year the Montessori auction is themed The Golden Age of Jazz! So, if you’re a parent make sure to dress in your jazziest outfits. This year the auction falls on March 4th, so make sure to be there! Some of the auction projects include a quilled sun which is appropriately named the Golden Sun, and a swinging bench decorated by Diamond Door. And remember, the whole point is to donate money to the school, so make sure to bring your wallets! (Also, just a reminder, no kids allowed.)

Valentine’s Day & Box Contest
By Alba Brasseur
Valentine’s Day was here, and excitement was buzzing all around Every year, Upper Elementary works hard to create boxes for their special contest: the Valentine’s Box contest! There’s prizes ranging from overall best to cutest and everything in between. This tradition is a fun opportunity for students to push their creativity to the next level. “I think the contest is a cool way to show your personality,” Diamond Door assistant teacher Maria says. “This is a fun way to celebrate each other. I love to see what Mineral Door creates!” The winners of the best overall were sixth graders Boston Drew and Ellie Gill.

Junior Surgeons Day
By Matthew Polos
Junior Surgeons Day is over but boy was it fun. Dr. Katrina Mitchell let us do a lot of things and I learned quite a lot. We got to touch real preserved human organs and use real surgical tools to pick up gummy worms and jellybeans. We had to dip our hands in corn syrup and then cover them in sprinkles to simulate washing germs off our hands. We had to put on tons of stuff like surgical gowns and gloves and face shields. Then we got to dissect pigs’ hearts and it felt like we were actually performing surgery. Thank you, Dr. Mitchell!
Battle of the Books
By Sebastian Moehrle
Hi, I’m Sebastian and I’m interviewing Ezra Swenson on the Battle of the Books! To get into Battle of the Books is to read 7 books by April 12th. One of the books is called Wish Tree
According to Anne Curtin, the MCS librarian, the reason we have our own Battle of the Books is because we can’t do the one with the Public Schools, so the local private schools made our own. Fourth graders, after they read all 7 books will participate in the battle at Crane which will test their knowledge.
