✓ Lift very heavy rolls of wire and dispense under FULL TENSION, eliminating the need to check the strain and lift the wire up onto posts.

✓ The whole process keeps moving forward with no doubling back.

✓ The strain is where you need it at the peak of a crest or the bottom of a gully.

✓ The wire just bobs along right next to the post ready to be clipped in, stapled or tied off.

✓ There is much less need for fence line preparation because the wire doesn’t drag on the ground.

FEATURES

✓ Fits on pallet forks

✓ Quick hitches available for any machine

✓ Hydraulic or manual options

✓ No friction damage to wire

✓ Detachable outrigger for left or right hand side operation

✓ Very tough, long lasting rubber coated rollers grip and strain the wire

✓ Full variation of tension is adjusted from the cab (hydraulic model)

✓ Will halve your labour or double your output

FASTER SAFER FENCING

We can’t wait for our 34th year

The animals are groomed, the entertainment is set and the gates are about to open for the 34th annual Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.

Held in the heart of Victoria at Seymour’s Kings Park, event manager Jo Smiles said the expo was a great way to discover the latest in technology, trends and practices in small and backyard farming.

“With a wide range of unique exhibits, engaging demonstrations and fun activities, visitors will be entertained, involved and introduced to fresh ideas and opportunities,” she said.

The animals on site are always popular among patrons young and old, and there will be no shortage of them this year.

In addition to sheep, cattle, goats and alpacas, we also have Farmer Darryl returning with his animal farm and Snake Safe Victoria joining us with their reptile display.

You can even enjoy a camel ride with Peter Hodge, who is returning for his 15th year.

“In addition to displays of farming technology and practices, we will also have our marketstyle shopping, food and entertainment,” Jo said.

"This year’s event marks the beginning of the Victorian school holidays, offering the perfect way to kick off the break.

“We will have whip cracking ‘come and try’ sessions across the three days, and Sincs FMX will be joining us on Saturday and Sunday with their motocross display.

“Across the weekend our Country Kitchen chef, Adrian, will be conducting hands-on kids’ cooking sessions.

“There is so much for the whole family to do!” There are plenty of tasty food and drink options, cooking and butchery demonstrations, the always popular arts and craft displays, and our exhibition building is packed full of stalls.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Saddle up, camel rides return

Who needs horse rides when you could get on the back of the desert dwelling, humpbacked camel.

Peter Hodge Camels, owned and operated by Peter Hodge, is bringing several camels to the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.

“We do short camel walks, about five minutes, I’ve got a loading platform so the camels don’t have to get up and down,” he said.

He won’t be bringing just any camels, his fleet is led by a 25-year-old camel, Roman, followed by a cast of hardworking camels.

“I’ve had Roman for 19 years, he came out of the desert and the second camel will be called Handsome. He was born at my place,” Mr Hodge said.

“Then Buddy and Sid, they’re 12-yearold camels, I got them when they were about six months old and Pretty boy, he’s 23 years old, I’ve had him since he was about five years old.”

The camel rides have been at the expo for 15 years and have no plans of stopping.

“It’s a really good event, and it’s got a good atmosphere,” he said.

With over three decades of camelhandling expertise, Peter has encountered riders from all walks of life and developed a deep affection for these gentle giants.

“It’s a pretty good job and most people are pretty good with the camels,” he said.

“I do get a lot of enjoyment of the people enjoying the camels because they sometimes get a bad name.

“They’re unique, and like dogs, they’re very cheeky.”

Like most things, there are some people who are a bit nervous when it comes to camels, but Peter is an expert in relaxing a tense rider.

“I love when people are scared, and you convince him to stay on, and they say at the end that the ride was good,” he said.

“That is the best part, that they conquer their fear, and they do something out of their comfort zone, so that’s very, very rewarding.”

Have you ‘herd’? Goat wool is in

AgriFutures is bringing goats to the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo in hopes of inspiring farmers to get into goats.

“The AgriFutures Australia’s Goat Fibre Program is designed to promote more people, more growers to produce mohair and cashmere on a commercial scale,” AgriFutures Australia Goat Fibre Program project lead Georgia Buchholz.

“We will be displaying Angora goats, in the flesh, and we have a producer coming along to help explain the process of producing mohair.

“We’ll have fact sheets and information available to anyone who’s interested in learning about producing fibre goats.”

#buylocal

Mohair production is closer to Merino sheep farming rather than other goat farming which is usually for dairy or meat products.

“It’s very similar to Merinos or super fine sheep,” she said.

“It is very profitable as well.”

The team will be there, including Georgia and a local fibre farmer, to introduce the expo attendees to take a step into the goat world.

“The goal is … almost a redevelopment revival of the industry in Australia,” she said.

Our region leads when it comes to producing and manufacturing local goods and services.

Back our growers, factories and jobs by shopping locally and buying Australia made. Stop by the Nationals stand to chat with me and our friendly team!

“It was really popular in the ‘70s and then petered out, and now we’re trying to get more people into it again.”

It’s their first time at the expo, joining the event due to the audience and environment.

“We think that the environment of Seymour is really well suited to goat production, and we think the people who are there will also be very open-minded to goat farming,” Georgia said.

“Both those who have some land and are interested in producing goats, and

those who are looking to diversify their enterprises by look running goats alongside their sheep or cattle are welcome.”

Following the expo, the team will be heading to hosting another field day in near Violet Town the next weekend with the fibre farmer.

“That will be at the producer’s property, who’s coming along to Seymour expo,” she said.

“It’s open to anyone, everyone’s welcome to come along and see onfarm learn more about goats and how to produce them.”

Beloka Kelpies showing best pups

Working dogs and pups in training will wow crowds with the Beloka Kelpies demonstrations at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.

The kelpie is an Australian dog breed, first appearing in the 1800s, and has since become wildly popular due to their working dog abilities.

“They’re popular because of their ability to push big mobs around and working through the yards,” owner Paul Macphail said.

“They’ve got good force with the bigger mobs.”

With over 30 years experience of working with and training sheepdogs, Paul promises the best dogs in his demos at the expo this year.

“They’ll see good quality pups showing off their natural abilities and instincts as well as the fully trained dogs moving a small flock around the pens,” he said.

Outside the in-demand demos, he also does talks in the learning hub and will be back with more insights this year.

“We talk about how to train, how to start with a puppy and how to train them right through,” he said.

One of his best dogs, Farmer, has a bloodline with Beloka

Kelpies dating back to the ’90s, and he will be at the expo along with Bubbles, who made an appearance last year and new pup Freckles.

“They’ll be a few main work dogs and a few up-and-coming puppies to show as well,” he said.

He has been part of the expo for about 10 years and highly commends the event.

“It’s just a great (expo), it’s very compact with lots and lots of different exhibitors and different things to see,” Paul said.

Whip cracking is all it’s cracked up to be

KM Whip Cracking will provide an opportunity for attendees to have a go at cracking their first whip.

“We’re going to do some demos on the Australian art of whip cracking, and then we’ll have the opportunity for anyone who wants to come up and have a go to have a go,” KM Whip cracking entertainer Kiera Buzza said.

“We’ll teach them how to crack a whip after they’ve watched our demo come up.”

Kiera and her sister will be using Australian whips, each with their differences and benefits.

“We use Australian stock whips and will be using all of those, as we normally do, then we will also be bringing some bullock whips, which are a lot longer, a lot bigger, a lot louder and pretty cool.

“People that have been to the show before have probably seen a little bit of that, but we’re going to incorporate a lot more of that this year because it’s a bit of a crowd pleaser.”

For those attending, Kiera said the crowd’s enthusiasm translates into a more exciting show.

“We are really looking forward to the crowds,” she said.

“The crowds at the Seymour expo are always amazing, really, really enthusiastic and really happy to get involved.

“Speaking to crowds is kind of hard sometimes, but when they get people involved and get people enthused, especially when it’s something a little bit different that they might not know a lot about, but the crowds are always really great.

“It has a really nice family feel to the show, so we’re pretty excited about that as well.”

The pair originally got involved with the expo by running a competition, but have since moved onto demos and audience participation.

“We used to run a competition at Seymour and whip crackers from all over Australia would come down to compete, they were our Victorian titles,” Kiera said.

“We’ve now moved elsewhere as we like to move it around Victoria so that everyone can have an opportunity to come.”

To try your hand at whip cracking or to learn about the art itself and different whips, check out KM Whip Cracking.

Get up close to farmyard friends

Young and old will love the furry, woolly and feathery friends at Farmer Darryl’s Mobile Animal Farm.

As a Seymour Alternative Farming Expo veteran, Darryl Sheridan, more commonly known as Farmer Darryl, is back for his 14th year, and he’s bringing his best animals.

His favourite part of the expo is the reaction from the attendees, but he also said it was a great social event.

“We have some calves, a collection of lambs and sheep, some goats and their kids, chickens, ducks in a pond, rabbits, and we’ve got some fantail pigeons that sit up on the roof of our farm houses,” Farmer Darryl said.

“We have two deer who have been travelling around the countryside with us for quite some time, and they’re always popular, a definite hit.”

For almost three decades he has been bringing his farmyard friends from different events, but the animals decide when they want to be driven around.

“I’ve been doing it for 26 years,” he said.

“The animals stick in their little groups and I call them up on the morning, and they pretty much decide who would like to come, and then they’re jumping into the trailers.

“They’ve all got their certain spots, and then we head off.”

As well as providing a close and personal experience with his animals, he will also have story times throughout the day, singalongs and educational sessions.

Farmer Darryl will have about 10 eggs from different birds and will work with the attendees to figure out which eggs come from which bird.

With his years of experience, he has the answer for all farmyard questions.

“It’s nice to be able to teach people if they’re thinking of getting different sorts of animals on the farm or pets, and I like to be able to tell them what they need to do,” Farmer Darryl said.

All bike tricks and treats with FMX

Freestyle Motocross is returning to the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo with harder stunts than ever seen before.

Professional rider for over 20 years, Cameron Sinclair, will don a helmet and wow crowds at this year’s event.

Although it’s his first time riding at the expo, this isn’t his first rodeo.

“It’ll be myself and another rider (at the expo) and we’re well-known freestyle motocross performers,” he said.

“We travel around all around Australia, all over the world, and we also tour with the Nitro Circus and the FMX team, we performed there last year as well.”

The team will be doing trick demonstrations and entertainment for all to enjoy.

“We got two of the best riders in Australia performing tricks, and we'll make a pretty cool show out of it,” Cameron said.

With two riders and an MC, the boys promise to leave audiences astounded.

“In the last 20 years, the progression is getting crazier and crazier,” he said.

“No-one will want to miss it.”

His team held the handlebar last year, but this year Cameron will be the star of the show.

“This year I'll be riding, so I'm looking forward to it,” he said.

With two decades in his belt and no sign of stopping, Cameron said that it’s the feeling of Motocross that keeps him hyped and ready to perform.

“It's the adrenaline, and it’s a pretty cool thing, it gets me through it all,” he said.

“I get to experience different places and meet new people and just to see the look on the kids’ faces when you’re performing your big tricks.

“We feed off the crowds, so when the crowd makes the noise, we appreciate it.”

He’s travelled around the world, but it’s Seymour crowds at the top of his list.

“Myself and the FMX boys are really excited to come to Seymour,” he said.

Attendees are encouraged to brush, pat and interact with Farmer Darryl’s animals as long as they stay respectful.
Cameron Sinclair takes to the sky.

SUSTAINABILITY & INNOVATION

Sustainability is the big buzz word in agriculture. From reducing emissions to going off the grid, farmers are looking to a low-impact future.

Hemp helps with sustainability

Southern Hemp is back with its hemp building demos, showcasing how hemp can change the way you build.

Southern Hemp owner David Brian said he would bring his 12 years of experience to the table with his demos and talks this year.

“At the expo, we will be showcasing some of the houses that were built and will also be doing some demonstrations to show the procedure that is involved in making hemp houses,” David said. He said that his love of his job came from informing people and helping homeowners create their dream house.

“I love educating people who come up to the stall, especially those who haven’t heard about hemp being used in the building,” he said.

“The stand does also show a lot of other uses of hemp as well.

“A big component is helping people who want to grow hemp — talking to them about growing hemp as a crop.”

He will be showing, and telling as well, with his farmer talks at the learning hub.

Independent, renewable power

This year will be Off-Grid Energy Australia’s 11th year at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.

The award-winning company has specialised in designing and installing off-grid power systems since it was founded in 2011 and has installed more than 1300 of them to customers nationwide, making them one of the oldest and largest off-grid experts in Australia.

Victorian manager and designer Aaron Lewtas said the team had honed its unique expertise over many years by ‘sticking with what we do best’ — off-grid battery systems.

“Off-grid systems provide an essential service — power to your home,” Aaron said.

“We know what it takes to provide hassle-free independent power and the ongoing commitment that it requires.

“By harnessing the power of the sun and advanced battery storage, our systems not only future-proof a company’s operations, but also inspire positive change within the agricultural sector.

“So put that responsibility in the hands of people who understand the importance of a robust and reliable system design, and who have the longevity to back it up.”

Modern off-grid systems can comfortably power anything, from small to large luxury homes and even commercial and agricultural operations.

Independent power is also proving to be cheaper and more reliable than grid power for more homes and businesses.

“I give an overview of what hemp is and then how it’s used in building, and the benefits in building, so things like the insulation value,”

David said.

“It’s breathable, and it’s a natural, sustainable product.”

He will also talk through the pros and cons of hemp building.

“The big benefit of hemp is that if you want to look like a rendered brick, you can, or you can make it more organic and a little bit rounded on the corners,” he said.

“You’ve got a lot of flexibility in design.

“All the hemp I use in my buildings is Australian grown.”

He said the hemp business was a growing industry, and he learnt more and more each year, bringing the latest information to each expo.

“We are always learning new little bits and where we need to tweak the process slightly,” he said.

“You’re just understanding more about how it reacts to different conditions as well.”

With many rural areas grappling with power bottlenecks from grid infrastructure and escalating diesel fuel expenses, reliable power for farming operations is critical.

By installing the latest in battery technology, Off-Grid Energy has established an independent and reliable power source for numerous properties across Victoria.

“New industrial solar and battery products are now available, which

means farmers can reduce their diesel reliance or offset expensive grid upgrades with confidence,” Aaron said.

“This will achieve significant cost savings and improve farm resilience.”

The friendly experts from Off-Grid Energy Australia will be giving demonstrations throughout the expo and answering any questions.

Off-Grid Energy Australia can help any enterprise future-proof itself.
From flexibility in design to sustainability, David Brian of Southern Hemp will take you through everything hemp.

Achieve a healthier, more profitable farm

For many Australian farmers, achieving both sustainability and profitability can feel like a constant balancing act — but with the right tools and support, it’s not only possible, it’s within reach.

At Biolink 4 Plants & Animals, we believe that sustainability and profitability should go handin-hand.

Our range of microbial-based fertilisers, soil stimulants, and animal probiotics are designed to enhance soil health, boost crop and pasture yields, and support healthy animals — all while driving down input costs.

As farmers face increasing pressures from climate change, rising fertiliser costs, and the need for more efficient land management, Biolink 4 Plants & Animals offers a practical, resultsdriven solution.

Our products use beneficial microbes to improve nutrient uptake, water retention and soil structure.

By integrating Biolink products into your farm’s management system, you can reduce fertiliser usage by up to 50 per cent without sacrificing yield — helping your farm become more profitable and sustainable in the long run.

Our microbial-based solutions not only promote healthy, nutrient-

dense soil, but also improve animal productivity.

For instance, farmers who use our Opti-Gut and Loose Lick products have seen improvements, like lambs being turned off 20 days earlier with less feed, thanks to enhanced nutrient uptake.

The Biolink System accelerates the process of soil regeneration, combining six potent microbial groups with humic fulvic acid to deliver powerful results.

With products like Biolink Germinator or Bio-Hum, you can integrate this system seamlessly with your conventional fertiliser to optimise your farming operations — without compromising on sustainability.

Join us at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo, Stall E18, where we’ll showcase how Biolink can support your farm’s long-term health and profitability.

Let’s discuss your challenges and explore how we can help you build a smarter, more sustainable farming future.

Established in 1947 by WB ‘Bill’ Hunter, Hunters has been a cornerstone of the rural industry for an impressive 78 years.

As a fully Australian-owned business, Hunters operates 11 stores, including two new locations in Nagambie and Seymour.

Hunters’ new stores will be showcased at this year’s Seymour expo, emphasising the diverse range of rural, trade, hardware and retail products and services now available to Seymour and Nagambie communities as part of the growing Hunters family.

As members of the National Rural Independents buying group and under the ownership of Lindsay Australia, Hunters has continued to evolve and strengthen its position in the market.

The company is now in its strongest position in history, poised to deliver competitive pricing, exceptional services, and vital support to the communities and farmers it serves.

Hunters boasts an extensive selection of rural, trade, and

hardware products, catering to needs ranging from small pet supplies, gardening and DIY projects to the demands of large-scale commercial farming operations and builders in the region, including feed testing, agronomy and animal nutrition.

Every member of the Hunters team is committed to excellence, and they collaborate effectively to deliver the best for their customers.

Hunters’ commitment to quality and service is reflected in its diverse inventory, which includes agricultural chemicals, pasture and cropping seed, electric and rural fencing materials, steel, hardware, rural plumbing supplies, pet food and accessories, and even barbecues for relaxation after a hard day’s work.

FARMING & LIVESTOCK

Big isn’t always better. There’s an animal, tractor and piece of equipment to suit every farm size and application.

Heat-hardy breed suits Victoria

Since 1933, the Brahman breed has continued to revolutionise the nation’s cattle industry.

Developed by crossing thinskinned, heat-tolerant Indian breeds with traditional English cattle, today’s Australian Brahman were developed by northern cattlemen who realised that traditional breeds were unable to withstand the ravages of northern Australia’s cattle ticks, heat and drought.

Today, the breed’s influence covers Australia, with stud and commercial live cattle exports to many overseas countries a clear indication of the breed’s adaptation over a wide spectrum of climatic conditions.

The growth and development of the Australian Brahman

has been described as the greatest livestock revolution in history.

It has transformed the northern beef industry into an efficient and highly profitable enterprise which contributes millions of dollars annually towards domestic and export income.

In the more temperate weather conditions found in Victoria, Brahmans offer improved drought resistance, a boost in production by up to 40 per cent through hybrid vigour and an ability to increase overall herd fertility, milk production and reproductive longevity.

Compact tractors pack a punch

The Seymour Alternative Farming Expo is a fantastic opportunity for farmers of all sizes to explore the latest innovations in agriculture.

For small and backyard farmers, finding the right equipment can be the key to maximising efficiency and profitability.

This year, New Holland — showcased at Rural Group’s site L65 — will highlight its impressive range of tractors perfectly suited to the unique needs of smaller operations, particularly those in the 100hp and under category.

Often, small farms and hobby farms are faced with the same challenges as larger agricultural businesses, albeit on a smaller scale.

They need reliable, versatile machinery capable of handling various tasks, from mowing and tilling to hauling and material handling.

New Holland understands this, and its presence at the Seymour expo offers a chance to see firsthand how its compact tractors pack a punch.

Tractors in the sub-100hp range are the workhorses of many smaller farms.

They offer the perfect balance of power, manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency.

garden, these tractors can be invaluable.

New Holland’s line-up at the field days promises to showcase models designed with these specific needs in mind:

Compact size and manoeuvrability: Navigating tight spaces and working in confined areas is crucial on smaller properties. New Holland’s compact tractors are designed for precisely this, offering excellent manoeuvrability and ease of operation.

Versatility: From front-end loaders and backhoes to mowers

and tillers, these tractors can be easily adapted to a wide range of implements, making them truly multi-purpose machines. This adaptability saves both money and storage space – essential considerations for small operations.

Fuel efficiency: Costeffectiveness is paramount for any farm, and fuel efficiency plays a significant role. New Holland’s engines are engineered to deliver optimal performance while minimising fuel consumption, helping to keep operating costs down.

Operator comfort: Even on smaller farms, operators spend considerable time in their tractors. New Holland prioritises operator comfort with features like ergonomic controls, comfortable seating, and excellent visibility, reducing fatigue and improving productivity.

Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the latest in compact tractor technology from New Holland and discover how these machines can empower your small farm to achieve big things. Visit Rural Group at site L65.

Poll Highland demand escalates

The Poll Highland Cattle Society was created in 2015 by a small group of people who loved the horned Highland breed, but saw a need for hornless Highlands for more safety with handling for owners, vets and in saleyards.

The hornless breed has made these amazing animals more accessible to many more people.

The society registers poll, horned and miniature highlands.

The Poll Highland breed has all the characteristics of Horned Highlands but without horns.

All Highlands have an unusual double coat of hair.

On the outside is the oily outer hair — the longest of any cattle breed, covering a downy undercoat. This makes them well suited to conditions in cold climates which have a high annual rainfall and forceful winds.

Highland cattle are great foragers, are known for their great temperament and shed their coat

Innovating farm efficiency

in summer, making them great in all climates.

Demand for Poll Highlands has lately gone into overdrive.

The demand sometimes surpasses supply, especially for heifers.

The society has received much interest since the beginning in 2015 with more people wanting to get involved in the hornless breed.

Members and breeders include generational farmers and hobby farmers.

Most animals are now sold as pets or for breeding, however some farmers and beef connoisseurs highly regard Highland beef.

Highlands are not a huge breed in comparison to other larger breeds, but certainly meet targets with the beef market, producing lean meat and good weight for size ratio.

The use of a double poll bull will produce poll offspring, even with a horned highland.

So, anyone wanting to change from horned to poll can achieve this by adding a poll bull to their fold or can breed up from any breed as long as they use a registered pure bull.

It takes four crosses to produce pure.

Poll Highland Society members have the choice of breeding horned, poll or miniatures.

Miniatures are below 106cm, or there is a mid-size up to 121.9cm.

Anything above this size is considered a standard size.

Hopefully, we will see you at the show, or contact us for our registered breeders’ list.

For more information, email the society on info@pollhighland.com. au, phone 0493 236 320 or visit: pollhighland.com.au

If you join during the expo the joining fee is abolished leaving you with just the yearly fee of membership $125.

Paton Livestock Equipment is a leading manufacturer in the agriculture sector that has a strong focus on feeding equipment and products related to animal health and welfare.

Based in Geelong, we design, manufacture and market a large range of products that bring greater efficiency and ease to farm management and productivity.

Paton is the go-to company for many farmers looking to reduce labour time in their operations and avoid wastage of valuable feed supplements.

We manufacture a large range of items including: hayfeeders, grain/ pellet feeders, troughs, feed trailers, ATV trailers, animal shelters, poultry feeders and firefighting trailers. Paton has invested in automation and PLC systems and has used this technology in several leading products.

Our new Cattle Caller feeder is one of these.

This stand-alone feeder is positioned in a paddock, weighs feed and delivers feed as scheduled with exacting amounts. The benefits that come with a measured pre-set feeding program

are significant, especially when cattle are involved.

Labour savings as well as feed savings from not over-feeding make this type of farm innovation highly valuable and cost savings to any operator.

The use of weighing systems and weigh scales combined with solar power and safety features to avoid over feeding, make the Cattle Caller a best practice device for the industry.

The Paton Feedking trailer is another innovative product using smart technology and innovation. This top of the range feed trailer combines an onboard hydraulic system and integrates this with PLC automation to virtually eliminate all manual handling for the operator.

The trailer gives an accurate weigh system combined with feed delivery precision, to enable the farmer to perform as efficient as possible and so reduce costs and safety risk to the operator.

These trailers come in a fully galvanised finish and all electrical switching is protected by a IP66

rated enclosure for simpler and centralised troubleshooting and maintenance.

Here for all your fencing needs

Starting in 1867, leading manufacturer Munro Engineers has moved from tobacco presses, chaff cutters and conveyors into PostDrivers, WireWinders, Ezywire for feeding out mesh and hinged joint and the FenceBoss system for strip grazing.

Munro first launched their revolutionary post driver in 1964.

In the five decades since, the Victorian company has sold thousands of its posthole drivers in Australia and across the world.

Company owner Warren McLean said the original Munro posthole driver was manufactured after a bet between two farmers about who could make the best posthole driver.

“The farmer who won the bet, Alastair Mackenzie, and his friend Max Brooke, a hydraulics engineer, approached my father Max McLean,” Warren said.

“We finished the design and manufactured the first model in 1964.

“It was the first machine in the world that combined an auger and a driver for installing posts.”

The popularity of the new posthole driver, which revolutionised the art of fencing, prompted Munro Engineers to specialise in fencing products.

“Our service and spare parts are second to none,” Warren said.

“We really look after our customers, many of whom are repeat buyers.

“The feedback from customers is about how long the machine lasts, how well it’s made and how well it does the job that it’s designed to do.

“Single man fencing contractors who have swapped to the AutoDriver say it’s increased their productivity, with some doubling the number of posts they are able to install in an hour.”

The recently introduced WireWinder is another great product manufactured by Munro.

Allowing users to coil 500 metres of fencing in under a minute, the WireWinder is proving popular with both contractors and farmers.

A 300 acre dairy farm with a lane system was wound up in just over two days. This would take almost three weeks by hand.

For those involved in strip grazing, Munro has now manufactured the FenceBoss temporary electric fence system. This system is designed to make setting up and pulling down temporary electric fencing quicker, easier and safer. It prevents loss and damage to reels and pegs while making transporting them a breeze. For information on these products contact Munro Engineers via email at info@ munroeng.com or call 5334 2770.

Concrete posts have new owners

Long-established, concrete and quarry business, E. B. Mawson and Sons Pty Ltd, along with experienced post manufacturer Rob Mulligan, are pleased to announce the recent purchase of the Wang Pre-Stressed Concrete Posts business, PCP by Mawsons.

Rob has now retired, having spent time last year passing his experience and trade skills on to new manager James Hollebone.

The sale marked a new era in the development of the PCP business.

PCP has operated for over 15 years, supplying the region with quality concrete posts through a small network of rural supply distributors.

PCP has been re-branded as “Mawsons Better Drive Pre-Stressed Concrete Posts”.

Mawsons has continued with the same product range at competitive prices, made in Wangaratta, using the same moulds and high grade reinforcing wire, pre-stressed within 50MPa concrete.

For all orders and inquiries, contact James on 0492 183 282 or email betterdrive@mawsons.com.au

New customer accounts and CODs are welcome. Payment is required before delivery for cash sale customers.

The shed experts deliver

For more than 30 years, All Sheds has been a proud familyowned and operated business in Shepparton.

It all started when Ross Pederick, originally running a landscaping supply business, was asked by a friend to sell his garden sheds.

Ross agreed, saying, “yeah, no problem, I’ll sell your garden sheds”.

Another friend suggested Ross should expand beyond garden sheds to more substantial structures, and from that, All Sheds was started.

“We are a family-owned business specialising in shedding and patio manufacturing, and we do everything from the start to the finished site,” project manager Nicholas Airs said.

“We get to the site, do all the permits for the customers, run all the trades, book it through right to finish product for their shed or patio.”

Today, with over 5000 successful shed installations, All Sheds has continued to thrive as a family-owned business.

The team has evolved from selling garden sheds to constructing and installing garages, barns, carports, patios, and machinery sheds, while still providing garden sheds throughout regional Victoria.

As a registered builder, All Sheds offers a comprehensive end-to-end service.

They handle everything from planning, design, and permit applications to supply and installation.

The team has been going to the Seymour Expo “for a fair while now”, and is gearing up for the 2025 event.

“We’ll set up a little stall with all operations and have two people there working taking sales orders,” he said.

“Come up to us, request a quote, and we’ll get all the details, and we can we

quote them on the day, if not, we get back to them the next week.”

If you’re looking for a new shed, patio, carport, or garage, All Sheds provides free consultations at its head office or on-site, along with quotes, and will be at the expo to answer any questions.

Supertank to lure in crowds

The Berkley Supertank will be back with the latest and greatest in lures and baits.

The tank itself is 12 metres long and four metres high, holding 14,000 litres of water and full of barramundi.

Demonstrator Michael Cooke is ready to educate the masses with lures pulled through the tank.

“We’ve been doing a lot of years at Seymour and all the other shows for about 25 years,” Michael said.

“We show people how lures work, how to use them in the different ways, when you should be using lures, but more importantly the speed work, and then we talk about some freshwater lures.”

His demonstrations are different to other lure education events as attendees are given a full visual of the fish and how they interact under the water.

For 15 years, on and off, he has been at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo, and it’s the people who keep him coming back.

“The people are really nice and are always happy to sit down and watch the shows,” Michael said.

Outside the show itself, Michael will be selling lures at a nearby marketing stand to encourage attendees to put their newfound knowledge to practical use.

Supertank demonstrator

For those who have seen the supertank at previous events, Michael promises the most up-to-date info, as nothing stays new for long in the world of lures, so expect to take in as much as you can.

“There’s always something new coming out as far as lures, always new

releases, so we also carry a bit of a range of the newest rods and reels out,” he said.

Whether you’ve never picked up a rod or you’re out on the water every weekend, the Berkley Supertank will have something for everyone.

“Anybody who enjoys fishing will get something out of it and all of that knowledge is going to help you become a better angler,” Michael said.

“Please come and say hello and then obviously get around and have a good day because it is a really great expo.

“It’s always a pleasure to be there.”

BBQ Hour back by popular demand

Secret Gardens Catering owner and chef Adrian Hensley is back with several demos prepared for his eleventh year at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.

“Our All-Time barbecue Hour is coming back again, and we have collaborated with Carnival Collective, so will be using their ranges and rubs in that,” Adrian said. They will be working on traditional meats rather than game meats, so everyone will be able to get something out of the sessions.

The barbecue hour will also be a collaboration with another exhibitor, Victory Meats.

“It’s also a bit of a collaboration session with Vic the butcher,” Adrian said.

“He jumps in, and we finish it off together, and I really enjoy that collaboration between Vic and myself because we bounce off each other during his session.

“He quite often cuts something down off a carcase, and he’ll ask ‘would you quickly cook it up to give the guys a taste’ so we’ll continue to do that.”

On Saturday and Sunday, they will also be running kids’ sessions.

“The first session will be looking at one of Nana’s recipes and my daughter (Lila, 13) will be leading that session with her cousin (Theo, 6) and they’ll be doing powder puffs,” he said.

“We will put out a big station where all the kids can come and make a variation of their own powder puff with different fillings and stuff, so it’ll be hands-on interactive.”

The second session will tap into a particular interest of Adrian.

“We’re going to look at Vegemite,” he said.

“I’m a huge Vegemite fan, so much so that my wife rolls her eyes at all the Vegemite ‘merch’ that I have acquired over the time.

“I thought I will tap into my passion for Vegemite, and we will go get nuts with Vegemite for the Sunday kids’ session, and I’ll be leading that one.”

For barbecue lovers or sweet toothed attendees, Secret Garden Catering’s talks are not one to miss this year.

Victory Meats has winning formula

Victory Meats is back, having carved out its place at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.

Owner and operator

Victor Bonacci will be back with talks and demos on the big four meats — beef, pork, lamb and chicken — as well as a venison breakdown.

Across the three days, he will break down a full cow, a whole lamb as well as the chicken and lamb.

His goal is to educate people on what goes into pulling apart a carcase.

“There’s so many secondary cuts people don’t realise,” he said.

He said that everyone from home kills to skilled butchers will enjoy the show.

“It (the demographic) is pretty much the right across the board,” he said.

“Home kills people to farmers that are doing

their own lambs and people that are interested in general.

“I also do a sausage demonstration, which is just making sausages and going through the process, so people understand the binding process and how it all comes together.”

For people hoping to learn from the master himself, he encourages curiosity.

“Please come with any questions, no question’s a silly question,” he said.

“I’m miced up, there are two cameras on me, an overhead camera and a side camera so people can visualise what I’m looking at, and they can get that image.”

Victory Meats will collaborate with fellow

exhibitor Secret Gardens Catering to great a ‘beast to feast’ experience for attendees.

Victor will cut a piece of meat off a carcase and Adrian Hensley from Secret Gardens Catering will cook it up and serve it to guests.

“Adrian and I have this little bit that’s worked out really well,” he said.

“Where I will cut something, and he’ll come in and grab it and will throw it on the BBQ and people try that cut.

“We’ve got a meat board with all smash burgers and different cuts of meat, ribeyes and flat iron, and we put that all out for people to try.

“We’ve been working really well with Adrian for quite a few years now.”

Victory Meats owner Victor Bonacci is back this year with demos and talks on the four main meats — beef, lamb, pork and chicken.

The home of heirloom seed

The Diggers Club has been the home of heirloom seed in Australia since the late 1970s, when Clive and Penny Blazey broke with popular opinion.

The pair opted to preserve the legacy of the generations of gardeners that came before, through the promotion of heirloom seed instead of the “new and improved” seed varieties released by corporates every year.

Widely known for saving and sharing numerous precious Australian heirloom seed varieties, The Diggers Club has become synonymous with backyard farming and organic gardening.

Now listing well over 500 varieties of heirloom seed in its annual seed catalogue, and preserving even more precious heirlooms in its seed vault, what started as an alternative to the corporates has become an institution for Australian gardeners of all levels. Growing the next generation of gardeners using the acquired knowledge of the generations that came before, The Diggers Club continues to support Australian gardeners to grow beautiful and productive gardens.

The club for gardeners, Diggers members enjoy discounts, exclusive offers, VIP shopping days and much more.

At only $59 per year, visit diggers. com.au to find out more or speak to the team onsite at the Seymour expo.

Innovative feeders and trailers

UTF Australia’s innovative approach to continually developing the strength and efficiency of their products with greater applications has seen the Clarke family evolve its business to a national brand in the feeder and trailer market.

Livestock producers looking for a lick feeder with feeding rate accuracy, good functionality, a long lifespan and safety, can’t go past the UTF Australia’s Universal Ultimate Series feeder.

UTF Australia principals Ben and Bruce Clarke released the Universal Ultimate Series feeder with a one adjuster feeding system in 2021 following 16 months of planning, developing and testing a new saliva lick feeder concept. The former farmers wanted to improve all aspects affecting the lifespan of a feeder, feeding rate accuracy and functionality and safety for both the producer and livestock.

The Ultimate Series feeder uses one plate to control both the height and width of the feed available and all adjustments are made from outside the feed area with mounted galvanised ratchets with no tools required.

UTF Australia’s original feeding system uses a two-plate adjustment system

UTF Australia’s Ultimate Series Feeders provide precise feeding options.

with one plate determining the height and the other the width of the feed available, with both adjustments accessed within the feeding area.

The Clarkes said one of the key aspects to the Ultimate Series design was not requiring the use of a bottom adjuster, which can be susceptible to corrosion and shorten the feeder’s lifespan.

Other features of the Ultimate Series feeder are quick and easy adjustment of rates, fully welded and hot-dipped

base frame, no supporting brackets in the feed area that can catch electronic ear tags, enclosed external adjustment, finer and more accurate adjustment to achieve lower rates and a tongue restrictor that simply swings away for cleaning of the feed area.

UTF Australia Ultimate Series and Original feeders are available in 3000 litre and 4200 litre capacities for sheep, cattle and pig enterprises and can be purchased fully assembled or flat packed.

UTF Australia’s range of flat-bed and tipping trailers can be made to order, ranging from 2500 mm to 6500 mm and two to 4.5 tonnes, available in tandem and tri-axle configurations with no shortage of options.

The Clarkes know what farmers demand in their trailer products and are one of the few manufacturers that designs and builds trailers specifically for farmers.

UTF Australia’s trailers also has options available to suit the needs

of trades people and domestic customers and have just started a new range of plant trailers

UTF Australia is based at Goomalling and has depots in the Northern Territory and Tasmania and multiple depot locations in South Australia, Victoria, NSW, Queensland and WA. Freight is available Australia-wide for all UTF Australia products, and UTF Australia now offers a finance service. For more information, visit: utfaustralia. com.au or phone 0499 555 355.

Mobile chicken farming revolutionised

Since 2010, Chicken Caravan has been at the forefront of designing and manufacturing mobile

maximise egg production with efficient and user-friendly solutions.

These innovative caravans offer an automated and mobile approach to free-range egg farming, making life easier for farmers, while ensuring optimal conditions for their flocks.

Chicken Caravan offers a range of models to suit different farm sizes and needs, with capacities for 10, 30, 130, 450, and 600 hens.

Whether you’re a hobby farmer on a few acres or managing a large commercial operation, there’s a Chicken Caravan designed to fit your requirements.

One of the standout models, the Chicken Caravan 450, earned recognition in 2012 when it won the Farm Invention of the Year award.

This achievement highlights the company’s commitment to innovation and quality, helping farmers improve productivity with a more efficient and sustainable system.

Every Chicken Caravan is built with smart design and high-quality materials.

A key feature is the hot-dip galvanised steel chassis, which provides exceptional durability.

This is important because chicken manure is highly corrosive, and without proper protection, traditional structures can deteriorate quickly.

The thoughtful construction ensures longevity, making it a reliable investment for farmers.

In addition to durability, Chicken Caravans are designed with ease of use in mind.

The mobile units allow for easy relocation, which helps maintain fresh pastures and improves flock health.

The egg collection and feeding systems reduce labour, saving time and effort for farmers.

Interested in learning more? We will be attending the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo, where you can see the Chicken Caravan in action and chat with our team.

Whether you’re looking to get a few chickens for the yard or starting a free-range egg farming, we’d love to discuss how Chicken Caravan can help.

Come visit us at the expo at site B29 and discover why so many farmers trust Chicken Caravan for its freerange egg production needs.

Sawmills sent to Solomon Islands

Lucas Mill was made aware of an upcoming tender for the Japanese Government to procure equipment to be supplied to developing countries.

In collaboration with our agent Farmset Solomon Islands and the Sirius Corporation of Japan, we were successful in our bidding and were awarded the tender in June 2024.

After much negotiation, the terms were settled and our collaboration had successfully obtained the tender

to supply 67, Model 8 circular swingblade portable sawmills to the Ministry of Forestry and Research in the Solomon Islands.

An order of this size is the largest individual order to date, marking a new milestone for the Lucas Mill team. Given Lucas Mills’ history in the Solomon Islands, it was no surprise

that the product would be a great fit for the brief.

Since 1994, there are about 1300 Lucas Mills in service in the Solomon Islands.

Due to the market demands in the Solomon Islands, the portable nature and affordability of our machine has seen a thriving market.

Other similar markets in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands have also flourished, particular in the sale of our Model 6 and Model 8 machines.

Come the end of August 2024, our team had seen the fruition of this project, having packed three, 40-foot containers destined for Honiara in mid-September.

Sixty-seven Lucas Mill Model 8 circular swing-blade portable sawmills were sent to Solomon Islands.

Powerful equipment for all farms

Benalla Motorcycles & Power Equipment is gearing up for the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo, showcasing topnotch machinery for farm and lifestyle needs.

With a focus on side-by-side vehicles and motorbikes, owner Darryl McNeilly said the business was ready to tap into the town of Seymour.

“This will be our first time,” Darryl said.

“We will be bringing the SP 530 range and nearly everything in the full range.”

Being a small, family-owned business, Benalla Motorcycles & Power Equipment understands the need of farmers.

It’s large service team caters for all types, models and sizes of ATVs, ride on mowers, lawn mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws and more.

With over 37 years of experience, you are able to get back to work quickly and know that your equipment has been professionally cared for.

“We’re not a corporate business, we’re not a car dealership, we’re not a stock agent, and we’re not an ‘attract sales’ business,” he said.

“We are professionally focused on selling, and we want to service the area, that’s for sure.

“That’s our point of difference.”

It’s more than just a retail store, offering farm pick-ups to those unable to do it themselves and even provide tea and coffee facilities while you wait.

Outside side-by-sides, motorcycles and power equipment, the store is there for all your safety needs,

stocking a range of men’s and ladies motorcycle clothing, safety apparel, helmets, boots and gloves — just to name a few.

The team prides itself on personal service and advice, with a hands-on approach and the belief that nothing is too much trouble.

The team will be on-site at the expo ready to answer questions, so don’t miss the opportunity to ask your questions to the friendly team.

NBN satisfies need for speed

NBN Co is nearing the end of the completion of the $750 million Fixed Wireless Upgrade Program that is boosting speed capability, enhancing capacity and extending the reach of the NBN Fixed Wireless network to benefit more than 750,000 homes and small businesses across regional, remote and peri-urban Australia.

Over the past two years NBN Co has been upgrading more than 2300 of its Fixed Wireless towers with next generation 4 g and 5 g mm Wave technology and software enhancements and offering upgrades of antennas on customer premises to offer more range, more speed and more capacity on the NBN Fixed Wireless network.

Regional Australians are using more data than ever. Together with the Federal Government, NBN Co is evolving the fixed wireless network — so more people can enjoy even better broadband.

Faster speeds (especially including during busy periods) means that you can do more online, with more devices at once, with less buffering.

More than 750,000 homes and business across Australia are now able to access faster speeds, and we have also rolled out two new high-speed plans in eligible upgraded locations, via participating providers

This means more Australian homes and businesses can now enjoy the positive transformation of faster wholesale NBN Fixed Wireless network speeds and decreased latency. Upgrades to the fixed

wireless network is being enabled by a $750 million investment — including $480 million from the Federal Government and an additional $270 million from NBN Co.

The NBN network delivers fast and secure broadband through a range of providers to more than 12.5 million Australians every day.

The network carries around 80 per cent of the country’s data traffic. Go to the NBN website to see what service is available at your address and register for updates at: nbn.com.au

NBN has promised faster internet speeds for rural and regional towns with its fixed wireless network.

Super range of wood machinery

Can your farm forestry operation process plantation timber into firewood at a profit?

Whitlands Engineering is the only name you need to know when it comes to firewood processing — designing and manufacturing Australia’s most trusted brands — Superaxe, and Rex, right here in northeast Victoria since 1993. The range of machinery covers all bases.

The Superaxe wood splitter range suits domestic, farm and small commercial operations, while the Rex range provides solutions to industrial firewood processing and tree waste transformation.

At the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo this year, the Rex 600 Firewood Processor will be demonstrated alongside the Superaxe machines.

The Rex 600 is a multiblade, compact processor capable of splitting up to 10 cubic meters of firewood per hour with two operators.

It is the machine of choice for arborists as it efficiently turns waste timber into profitable firewood with minimum overheads.

For over 30 years now, Whitlands Engineering has been collaborating with the firewood industry, designing machinery that solves problems.

“We’ve been providing machines to the farm forestry sector and arbour industry for many years — the durability, ease of use and productivity of all our machines means they are the first choice for many companies seeking to exploit the profit potential in tree waste and plantation timber,” owner and designer David Burder said.

“There is a machine to suit all requirements — large or small.”

So, stop by at the Whitlands Engineering site at the expo and see the machines in action. The

Inland rail boost for regional economy

Inland Rail is a fast freight backbone from Melbourne to Brisbane that will transform how goods are moved around Australia, generating opportunities for our regions and our economy, now and well into the future.

Inland Rail will better link producers, manufacturers and businesses to national and global markets.

In Victoria, Inland Rail is upgrading 262 km of existing track between Beveridge and Albury (B2A) to provide sufficient height and width clearances to allow double-stacked freight trains to use the line.

Railway tracks are being lowered and bridges raised at 12 locations and further work is taking place within the rail corridor to modify tracks, stations, utilities and signal gantries.

The first four project sites at Barnawartha North, Wangaratta, Glenrowan and Seymour-Avenel Rd are completed or close to completion, and work is about to begin at Benalla, Euroa, Wandong, Broadford, Tallarook and Seymour.

Work on the remaining eight sites is expected to provide a further boost to local economies and communities.

Inland Rail construction partner John Holland is focused on employing local workers and encouraging regional businesses to register their interest in supplier opportunities.

Inland Rail B2A delivery director Ed Walker believed the Inland Rail project would leave a lasting legacy.

“We’re building much needed new infrastructure that will last for generations, but the legacy goes

beyond the new bridges, upgraded railway stations and improved freight movements,” he said.

“Hundreds of highly skilled jobs are being created in regional communities, including traineeships and apprenticeships.

“Upskilling local workers will be vitally important for future rail and construction projects.”

Australia’s population is predicted to

reach between 37.4 and 49.2 million people by 2066.

Inland Rail will provide a reliable and efficient rail network to meet our increasing freight needs and take the load off our already congested roads.

A 1.8 km long doubled-stacked freight train travelling at up to 115 km/h, using Inland Rail, will be able to carry the equivalent freight volume of 110 B-double trucks.

Wangaratta Station construction is just part of the new rail line.

Handcrafted quality for every home

Envisage Furniture is there for all your comfort needs at the Seymour expo this year.

“We specialise in custom timber furniture, so using a range of hardwoods, people can bring in their own timbers if they’d like to, we supply a vast range of timbers and basically can create anything that our customers are looking for,” sales and office administrator Jaye Walsh said.

“We do have to stock on the floor that is ready to go, but if there are special requirements that customers have, the boys can work with them.”

For 15 years, Envisage has been a staple of the expo and has no plans of stopping.

“We’ve done Seymour Expo for a long time, and it’s one of the proven things that people love because our product is something that you can’t tell from a picture exactly what it is, but once you see it in person, and you start going, oh, here’s a 500-year-old slab table that’s beautifully made, it actually becomes a talking point,” owner Chris Willis said.

“I would say that every customer who walks into the stand has to touch the timber.

“We love talking to customers, and at the expo, we see many repeat customers

that will come back in to buy some polish and things like that and have a chat about their next project or even just comment that they still love their piece and that’s fantastic to hear.”

They have added IMG and Molmic couches to their products, both couch companies and both available for customers to come enjoy and try-out at the expo this year.

“We’ve added those companies in because they have fantastic quality,” Chris said.

“They’re really personalised in a way that you can pick colours and fabrics

and things like that, but most of the time the product sells itself because people will walk in, sit on it and go, oh, this is pretty nice.

“We’ll bring a bit of everything to the show, have examples there, let people sit on them and go from there.”

Envisage is also an NDIS provider, making custom chairs depending on the client’s needs, including delivery and set up in the local area.

“The things that the boys do are amazing,” Jaye said.

Expo has a familyfriendly vibe

The Seymour Alternative Farming Expo is an event my family and I have loved attending for years.

Now in its 34th year, the expo is a cornerstone of our local economy, drawing people from across the country to experience the best our region has to offer.

With over 400 exhibits, from vintage car displays to camel rides, and mouthwatering food and drink options, there’s truly something for everyone.

For my family, we never miss the whip cracking, machinery display or the Seymour Lions’ barbecue.

Throughout the expo, I’ll be at my marquee, located at B89 near gate three, alongside my Nationals Party colleagues.

Please drop by, say hello, and share any thoughts or concerns you have.

Plus, we’ll have free show bags, water bottles, and fun new buckets to give away — so make sure to stop in and grab yours.

The expo also shines a spotlight on our outstanding local agricultural industry, showcasing sheep, cattle and poultry.

Agriculture is the backbone of our regional economy, and events like this are vital for recognising the incredible work our farmers do every day.

You’ll also find exhibitors leading the way in agricultural innovation, offering insights into the latest technology and techniques from around the world.

I can’t wait to see you there.

Each of the 10 cattle are numbered, and the riders must sort the cattle in order from their randomised starting number.

Cattle must stay in the sorting pen and cannot enter the pen out of ascending order.

Since it was first conceptualised, the sport has gone through a few updates and changes, but has remained true to it’s core.

“Originally, team sorting was in teams of four, and that would determine who you had your runs with, and the fastest time of the day would win,” owner-operator Andrew Nash said.

“But your scores didn’t go together, so I didn’t see how it was really a team sport because it was just the fastest time of the day, and anybody can get the fastest time of the day.”

So they had a rejuvenation, with the sport now being about getting as many in a set amount of time.

He said the most significant change they had seen over the years is how much the sport had grown, expanding across Victoria and NSW.

At this year’s expo, they’re bringing some new events and demos to the table, so it’s not an event to miss.

“We’ll be doing a demonstration, but this year we’re also going to have some of the kiddies doing demonstrations as well,” Andrew said.

“We’re going to mix it up a little bit rather than just have the two horses going, we will have a little bit of other things going for people to see, so it’s a bit different.”

According to Andrew, equine sport is the fastest growing sport in the country, and he’s excited to show the expo what they’ve got.

“It (the Seymour expo) is a good way to get it out there to people because it’s one of those sports that people don’t know a lot about,” he said.

“So it’s about what we can teach people to do.”

“At Enmach, we have advertised in Farmer Direct consistently for over 7 years and have found the publication reliable and successful in getting our ad right into the hands of our target market. The sales team always know when a Farmer Direct publication hits the mail boxes, the phones starts ringing.”

Venomous snakes feature in demos

Snake Safe Victoria is back for its fourth year at the Seymour expo and owner and operator Glenn James promises it to be the best yet.

They will have their usual set up with a marquee of scaly, furry and slimy friends as well as the snake pit, where the fun really happens.

“I have the world’s rarest python, the Oenpelli python, so he’ll be on display and a scrub python as well, and probably some frogs,” Glenn said.

“On top of that. I will have the Snake Safe Victoria pit set up where I’ll be displaying some of the most venomous snakes in Australia, including the inland Taipan.”

With 25 years of experience, he’s an expert in all things snake handling.

For those who aren’t the biggest fan of snakes, Snake Safe has plenty more to offer you.

“We’ll have a little marsupial as well, they’re closely related believe it or not,” he said.

“They look like a mouse, but they’re closely related to the Tasmanian devil.

“We will be hosting photo opportunities for people where you can sit down and hold a crocodile or

get a photo with a dingo, a possum or a large python, and then every hour or so we will be doing the venomous snake show.”

The venomous snake show has something for attendees there for fun and those there to learn.

“It’s a combination of everything,” Glenn said.

“It’s highly entertaining with a little bit of comedy involved, but on top of that, we will be learning about snakes as well as about their behaviours.

“We do a bit of a display on different snake behaviour and what to look out for, how to react around snakes, and we also do a little bit of our first aid training on snakebite.”

He said the thing that kept him in his job was his desire to change opinions on snakes.

“I could be doing a show in front of 1000 people and if one person walks away with a different attitude about snakes, I’ve done my job,” he said.

Car club clocks up many years

The Seymour Car Club has been a staple of the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo for

President John Phoenix said they loved to give the club some air time and teach the public about cars new and old, but especially old.

“It was only about five cars initially,” John said.

The club has cars ranging from 1927 to a 2017 Holden Commodore.

“We’ll have a little gazebo on the fence with our banner,” he said.

The team will be there to answer any questions about the cars on display, owning a vintage car or joining the club.

“Throughout the whole day, we’ve always got at least two members that man the area, ready to give out information,” he said.

Starting in 2011, the club has lots of experience at these types of shows, especially in show and shine events.

John said the hardest part of owning a vintage car was the upkeep.

“The maintenance is one of the hard things, as it’s getting harder for some lighter metal cars,” he said.

“We don’t have any Australian cars any more, so we rely on imports, and it’s hard to get Commodore parts at the moment even.”

For the best cars in the district and more information on cars and car ownership, head along to the Seymour Car Club section.

The club will also have information on club membership for any budding car lovers.

Inland Rail is happening in Victoria

Inland Rail construction in Victoria is powering ahead and in 2025 more milestones are set to be achieved.

Our two construction partners McConnell Dowell and John Holland are working hard to ensure the construction and design of the 12 Inland Rail sites in Victoria will allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains.

This year we’ll complete works at Seymour, Wangaratta Station Precinct and Glenrowan and start construction across eight sites between Benalla and Wandong, including Euroa and Benalla Station precincts.

Inland Rail is a nation building project that is transforming how goods are moved around Australia as each section is delivered. We are on track to finish constructing the sections between Parkes, NSW and Beveridge, north of Melbourne in 2027.

Work is also progressing to achieve environmental approvals and acquire land for Inland Rail between Narromine, NSW and into Queensland.
