Our Home Winter 2025

Page 1

welcome

AS THE FIRST EDITION of Our Home for 2025 goes to print, I can’t help but feel excited for the cooler months ahead.

Spring and summer seemed to blend into one long warm stretch and here we are in autumn — yet the days are still toasty.

This edition, however, is all about the coldest part of the year – winter, and if you’re reading this, then we’re practically there.

I hope if you’ve got a wood fire you’re all stocked up and ready to go.

So, let’s dive into the pages — another beautiful edition showcasing two stunning homes.

One on the outskirts of Tatura and the other right in the heart of Murchison’s main street.

Both homes have wonderful stories to tell, and I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them. One of them may even have a ghost.

Inside, you’ll find plenty of practical winter-ready hacks, delicious mouth-watering recipes, you’ll be hungry the moment you see the photos — and loads of handy tips and ideas.

We’ve got a de-cluttering checklist designed especially for you, plus inspiration for throwing a winter-themed dinner party with friends and family — so get those slow cookers ready.

Want to take it a step further? How about a dressup food night? Yes, we’ve got ideas for that too.

Ever been out to dinner and noticed everyone glued to their phones?

We’ve included some creative ways to keep screens off the table — both when dining out and at home.

We’re also sharing some natural home and jew-

ellery cleaning hacks, old-fashioned kid-friendly entertainment ideas from the pre-technology years, and helpful insights on property styling, paint and lighting trends, solar tips for winter and gardening advice for all you green thumbs out there.

However you welcome winter — whether it’s with a hot chocolate, a glass of red, pizza on the couch with a movie, or fluffy socks and ugg boots by the fire — we hope this edition brings you inspiration, comfort and joy.

Keep cosy and warm.

Until next time

Some of the best conversations happen in a kitchen filled with love, good food, and great company, and for the Talarico family — Meg, Graeme, Olivia and Evelyn — this couldn’t be more true.

After purchasing their Edwardian heritage-style home, beautifully named Oakridge, in 2017, the family has settled in effortlessly on its 12 hectare property on the outskirts of Tatura.

With Graeme’s Italian heritage, the kitchen has naturally become the heart of their home — a space where family recipes are shared, rich sauces simmer on the stove and laughter fills the air.

“We were actually looking at properties for my brother to purchase and just happened to stumble

upon Oakridge,” Meg said.

“We had always loved spending time in cottages on holidays, and when we saw this place, we instantly fell in love with its old-world charm.”

Built in the early 1900s, Oakridge is a Federation-style home — uniquely Australian, but heavily influenced by the British Edwardian aesthetic.

The home features light-filled living areas, a modern kitchen and large glass doors leading to landscaped gardens.

A wide hallway with polished floors and high ceilings guides you into grand-sized bedrooms and stylish, cosy living spaces.

Each space exudes an elegant charm complete

with metal pressed patterned roofing and ornate pressed cornices.

Stained-glass windows with delicate floral patterns beautifully illuminate the interiors, while an abundance of natural light streaming through an array of windows enhances the home’s warmth.

Fireplaces throughout the home add a final touch of charm, making Oakridge a sanctuary for the Talarico family.

“It wasn’t just the home itself that caught our attention, and as soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the grandeur of the trees, once planted by hand,” Graeme said.

“It’s a sense of privacy, a connection to nature, that really makes this place special.

“The beauty of this property is its natural vegetation and the way it supports life — everything from the trees to the birds.

“The water and the landscape come together to create something truly special.”

Previous connections to the property have been linked with the Winter-Irving family, whose pastoral influence and agricultural practices played a foundational role in shaping the region.

Notably, the family had connections to the Dhurringile Mansion, constructed in 1877, which served various purposes over the years, including as a minimum-security prison from 1965 until its closure in August 2024.

Today, Graeme thinks their Oakridge property may have once been a workers’ farming residence, that was employed by the Winter-Irving family.

“The property has changed hands several times over the years,” Graeme said.

“Each family has added their own chapter to its history, making upgrades and modifications along the way.

“Particularly the Witten family, who also planted hundreds of trees.”

Meg added that each family has left its own personal touch on the property, creating a sense of calmness that she can only describe as special.

“To be honest, we’ve been really blessed and haven’t had to do much to the inside at all,” Meg said.

“You can’t build history, but you can definitely feel the fond memories left behind by those who lived here over the years.

“It’s such a calming place, and since we’ve owned it, many people have reached out, sharing beautiful memories of those who either lived here or knew someone who did.

We now get calls from people when there’s a sick or injured animal. We have two dogs, a cat, a goat, a horse, and six cows. What will be next?”

Another impressive aspect of the house is Meg’s passion for repurposing furniture, which is evident throughout the property.

This craft has become a defining feature of the home, with one room — now a dedicated space for the Hawthorn Football Club, complete with a bar and pool table — having once served as a studio for workshops that Meg hosted, drawing people from all over the state.

Meg’s passion for design was also showcased in her boutique store, Oakridge Designs, located in the heart of Tatura.

The store offered homewares, giftware, and a chalk painting studio, quickly becoming a community hub.

It hosted workshops that attracted visitors interested in unique home décor.

Initially, these workshops started in her home, offering a more intimate Oakridge Designs experience, but the space soon proved too small to accommodate the growing demand.

Reflecting on her journey, Meg said she had always been repurposing furniture that never quite suited her previous home.

“Every piece now fits perfectly here — maybe I was always just waiting for this home,” she said.

“Although I’ve now closed the business to focus more on my family, you can never say never, I suppose.”

As the Talarico family continues to create new memories within the walls of Oakridge, their story blends seamlessly with the legacy of the home — a place where love, history, and new beginnings thrive, and where every corner echoes with the laughter and warmth of a life well-lived.

With Graeme’s Italian heritage, the kitchen will continue to be filled with rich sauces, late-night cooking sessions, and the promise of plenty of Italian food — and maybe a few more late nights soon, thanks to their growing family.

The dirt on cleaning

LET’S FACE IT — CLEANING ISN’T EXACTLY THE HIGHLIGHT OF ANYONE’S DAY, BUT WHAT IF YOU COULD DO IT WITH THINGS YOU ALREADY HAVE AT HOME?

DITCH THE HARSH CHEMICALS and grab some vinegar, lemon, and bicarb soda — it’s time to clean smarter, not harder.

All-purpose spray: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Add a few drops of lemon oil for a fresh scent — perfect for kitchen benches.

Microwave magic: Heat a bowl of water with lemon slices for three minutes. Let the steam do the work, then wipe away grime.

Stainless steel shine: Buff appliances with a tiny bit of olive oil on a cloth for a streak-free finish.

Bathroom sparkle: Mix bicarb soda with water to make a paste, scrub tiles and sinks, then rinse with vinegar.

Toilet tidy: Sprinkle bicarb soda in the bowl,

add vinegar, let it fizz, then scrub and flush.

Freshen up fabric: Mix water, bicarb soda, and a few drops of essential oil in a spray bottle to refresh lounges, cushions, and mattresses.

Carpet and rug revival: Sprinkle bicarb soda over carpets, leave for 15 minutes, then vacuum to lift dirt and odours.

Laundry boost: Add half a cup of bicarb soda to your wash to brighten whites and remove smells.

Mop mix: A splash of white vinegar in warm water is all you need for streak-free floors.

Pet-friendly odour fix: Sprinkle bicarb soda on pet beds, leave for a while, then vacuum to keep them fresh.

Simple, natural, and easy — cleaning just got a whole lot better.

Utilise solar this winter

WANT TO KNOW HOW TO KEEP YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM WORKING EFFICIENTLY AND SAVING YOU MONEY — EVEN IN THE DEPTHS OF WINTER?

AS TEMPERATURES DROP and daylight hours shorten, you might wonder how effective your solar energy system can be.

The good news is, with a few small checks and changes, you can continue saving on your energy bills right through the cooler months.

Byers Electrical’s solar specialist and estimator Clint Dudgeon shares a few helpful tips for getting the best out of your system this winter:

SYSTEM MAINTENANCE

• Check panels for dirt, dust or other debris and clean if necessary.

• Also check your inverter to ensure it’s operating correctly.

MONOTOR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

• Use your solar monitoring system (app) to track performance and identify any drops in production.

ENERGY STORAGE

• Look at adding a battery storage system to allow stored energy to be used on cloudy days or during the evenings to maximise your solar energy.

MAXIMISE SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE

• Clear surroundings such as trees or shrubs that might cast shadows over your solar panels.

• Optimise energy usage during peak sunlight hours by running major appliances when the sun is out.

By implementing these strategies, you can continue to benefit from your solar energy system throughout the winter months.

STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY: KELLY LUCAS-CARMODY

someone will feel that,” Melissa said.

“But in this home, you can almost sense the stories of all the people who have lived here before, and you can tell it’s a home that comes with a history because you can really feel it.”

Built in 1893 by Alexander W. McRobert, Ravenscraig is a piece of Murchison’s pioneering past, if not Victoria’s.

The home was named after the famous Ravenscraig Castle, built in 1460 in Kirkcaldy, Scotland — McRobert’s ancestral home.

McRobert married Mary Florence Currie in 1892, just before building Ravenscraig next to the Commercial Bank, where at the time, he was the bank manager.

He played many roles in the Murchison and Rushworth communities, becoming a well-respected figure.

If you look to the left and right of the arch you can see two nails. It’s believed this is where a sheet once hung separating the house owners from the servants.

“With so many rooms and spaces within the home, it’s hard to imagine how two people can use all of them, but we do,” Melissa said.

“The front room is probably my favourite — a place where I play my piano, and I can feel that music has been played here many times before.

“There’s something magical about that room.”

Situated on half an acre in Murchison’s main street, the home has been well cared for throughout its 130-year history and still retains many of its original features.

Aside from the hallway roof collapsing in their very first week, the couple hasn’t had to make many major changes to the interior.

However, they did transform a walk-in robe into a beautiful ensuite and have added some much-needed storage throughout.

Upon entering the home, you’re immediately greeted by high ceilings, original doors, spacious rooms, chandeliers and grand, oversized windows.

The home is a seamless blend of old and new, as if each generation of residents has left its own mark.

A modern, spacious kitchen — complete with a butler’s pantry — adds contemporary comfort while complementing the home’s rich history.

It also feels as though there’s a fireplace in almost every room — or at least, there once was.

The home even boasts a cellar, and although they can’t confirm it yet, the couple suspects there may be a water well beneath their back decking.

The formal front room at Ravenscraig is where Melissa enjoys playing her piano and the the couple enjoy a coffee every morning.

“We might dig it up and take a look one day, but for now, I think we’ll just leave it be,” Melissa said.

“Maybe one day, while I’m out in the garden, I’ll say, ‘It’s time,”’ she added with a laugh.

“I really enjoy my time in the garden, and if anything, I think that is where most of the work and changes have been done — outside.”

The gardens, stretching from the front all the way to the back fence, are nothing short of spectacular — welcoming and full of charm.

Established trees, a vibrant mix of plants and shrubs, and an array of homewares come together to create a space that comes to life, attracting an abundance of birdlife all-year-round.

The grand entry of the front yard beautifully complements the home’s heritage, and from the moment you step onto the pathway, you’re drawn in by a welcoming sense that invites you to explore this magnificent piece of history.

Yet at times, you find yourself simply wanting to sit and take in its beauty.

“There’s something really special not only about the house and land but also about the community here in Murchison,” Glenn said.

“As soon as we arrived, we joined the historical society because of the house, but there’s also the bowls club, the town planning group, and the RSL.

“It’s a place where people just pop in — it’s a lovely place to live.”

Melissa added that after spending most of their lives in Brisbane and a few years in Melbourne, they now believe their charming little home in Murchison is where they’ll spend their remaining years.

“We just love it,” Melissa said.

“I’m sure we’ll always find something that needs doing, but that’s okay.

“Life would be boring if it were too simple.

“If there’s no challenge there’s no fun. So, if something breaks, we’ll just fix it and enjoy our home in the meantime.”

Glen adding, “As long as you have a good trades person, there’s nothing that can’t be fixed.”

A framed photo of Alexander W. McRobert is displayed proudly in the Ravenscraig home.

Screens down

UNPLUGGING FROM SCREENS DURING MEALS AND SPECIAL OCCASIONS HELPS FOSTER GENUINE CONNECTIONS, CREATING MEMORIES THAT LAST FAR LONGER THAN ANY SOCIAL MEDIA POST.

PICTURE BEING AT A LOVELY restaurant with your family, the aroma of freshly food wafting through the air, laughter echoing from the next table — and then you look around.

Your partner is checking emails, your teenager is deep into a TikTok rabbit hole, and your youngest is watching YouTube with the volume suspiciously low (a telltale sign of mischief). Sound familiar?

In an era where our phones are practically glued to our hands, it’s become all too easy to be physically present but mentally checked out.

So, how do we reclaim quality time with family and friends?

Here’s why and how you should set those screens aside when it matters most.

First, let’s talk about why disconnecting from devices during meals and special occasions is so important.

Studies show that excessive screen time can interfere with face-to-face interactions, reduce empathy and even contribute to stress and anxiety.

Plus, let’s be honest — nothing kills a heartfelt moment quite like someone literally live-streaming it.

Time spent with loved ones is precious.

Whether it’s a birthday dinner, a casual Sunday barbecue, or a big wedding celebration, these are

the moments we remember.

Do you really want to look back and realise you spent half the night scrolling Instagram instead of laughing at Uncle Barry’s ridiculous dance moves? (Okay, maybe that one deserved to be filmed.)

So, how do we convince everyone — especially kids and teens — to put their devices away?

HERE ARE A FEW STRATEGIES THAT MIGHT DO THE TRICK:

Make it a house rule: Declare dinner time a screen-free zone.

No phones, no tablets, no distractions.

The basket challenge: Place a bowl or basket in the centre of the table and have everyone deposit their devices before eating.

First person to grab their phone has to do the dishes. Suddenly, no one’s in a rush.

Lead by example: If you’re constantly checking your own phone, your kids will take that as a green light to do the same.

Show them that conversation, eye contact and a good old-fashioned joke are still cool.

Make it fun: Turn screen-free time into a game. Whoever lasts the longest without reaching for their phone gets to pick the next family outing (just an idea).

Create tech-free traditions: Instead of staring at screens, start traditions that encourage interaction.

Board games, storytelling, even a simple “highs and lows of the day” conversation can spark genuine connection.

Life moves fast, and the last thing we want is to miss out on the moments that truly matter because we were too busy refreshing our feeds.

So, next time you sit down to dinner or head out for a special occasion, put the phone down, look up, and be present.

Trust me — your notifications will still be there when you get back, but the memories you create in real-time?

Those are priceless, and remain with you forever.

Twiddling through time

WHEN YOU

STEP INTO ANN LELIEVRE’S HOME

YOU’LL LIKELY

FIND HER SURROUNDED BY FABRIC, THREADS, AND THE HUM OF HER OWN CREATIVE ENERGY WHILE WORKING AWAY ON HER SEWING MACHINE.

HER HANDS ARE RARELY STILL, and whether she’s crocheting delicate red poppies for Anzac Day or stitching memories into patchwork, Anne is always making something — always “twiddling,” as her father would say.

However, that quiet but joyful twiddling recently resulted in a remarkable achievement.

A breathtaking, king-sized quilt that took almost five years to complete.

Inspired by a design from Brisbane-based fabric artist, whose brand Fairies in My Garden is adored by stitchers across the country, the quilt is a dreamy, whimsical creation, full of tiny details that only reveal themselves on closer look.

Anne first came across the design while browsing in a fabric shop.

“I saw it in a book and just fell in love with it,” Ann said.

“It had this magical, old-world feel.

“Soft colours, little cottages, garden scenes — it reminded me of storybooks I had as a child.”

The quilt pattern came in a kit, complete with fabrics, lace trims, silk ribbons, beads and a thick instruction book.

But even with all the materials ready to go, it was no small task.

Each block had its own little scene — and all of them required fine, detailed embroidery.

The border panels, which frame the entire quilt, were just as detailed, featuring carefully hand-sewn decorative elements that bring the whole piece together.

“There were times I’d sit at the table for hours working on just one square,” she said.

“I couldn’t have the television on for most of it — I needed to concentrate.

“It was a lot of stop and start over the years, but I always came back to it.”

There’s no shortage of florals in this creative piece, and the colours flow perfectly from the edges to the centre.

It’s something you could admire for quite some time — filled with tiny, lovingly stitched details.

It feels as though pieces of Anne’s own life are woven into it too.

“Making it gave me such a sense of calm,” Ann said.

“It really reminded me of what I love most — slow stitching, meaningful details and creating something that tells a story.”

When the final stitch was made and the quilt was assembled and finished early this year, Anne laid it proudly on the bed in her spare room.

It’s more than just a decorative cover for a bed — it’s a celebration of her creativity, patience and love for handmade beauty.

“I’ll probably never make another quite like it,” Ann said with a smile.

“But I’m glad I did this one.

“Every time I look at it, I see those hours of joy, frustration and pride stitched into every inch.”

For Anne, crafting isn’t just about making something lovely — it’s about living a creative life, one quiet moment, one thoughtful stitch at a time, while always twiddling away.

Share the love

KINDNESS DOESN’T HAVE TO BE GRAND OR EXPENSIVE — IT CAN BE AS SIMPLE AS SHARING A JAR OF HOMEMADE JAM OR LEAVING FRESH PASSIONFRUIT ON A COLLEAGUE’S DESK.

IN A WORLD THAT often feels rushed and disconnected, small acts of generosity can brighten someone’s day and create ripples of goodwill that go far beyond what we see.

If you’re looking for ways to spread a little love, here are some simple yet meaningful acts of kindness to try:

SHARE WHAT YOU HAVE

Garden goodies: Got an overflowing lemon tree or too many zucchinis? Share the extras with neighbours, friends, or even leave them in a community box for others to enjoy.

Homemade treats: Whether it’s a jar of chutney, a batch of biscuits, or some fresh-baked bread, food made with love is always appreciated.

Shout a coffee: Surprise a friend, colleague, or even the person behind you in line, with a free cup of coffee.

Host an unforgettable platter night

STORY: TAYLAH BAKER
WE’VE ALL GOT FRIDAY ON OUR MINDS – MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE DISHES OF THE WEEKEND ARE VERY MUCH ON OUR MINDS.

Due for a catch-up? Absolutely.

Should we make a dinner reservation? That sounds like a lot of work.

Takeout ordering? In this economy, forget about it.

Instead, turn your attention to a platter night – the simple yet sophisticated solution.

Here, Simone Dunne shares her take on the modern dining scene and why food is a powerful connector.

COOK UP A PLAN

First things first, the organising.

For Simone and her group of friends, these gatherings often emerge on a whim.

“Someone will say, ‘I think we’re due for a catch-up, let’s do this’,” she said.

“It’s often spur of the moment, and everyone throws in their ideas.”

Those ideas typically include slow cooker nights, bonfire gatherings, or platter evenings, where every person contributes something, turning one dish wonders into grand feasts.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

Simone recommends a mixture of sweet and savoury, with guests assigned to each dish.

“When people try to bring something different outside the box, like a new recipe, that’s what everyone likes,” she said.

“I often make a mixed dessert platter with all the sweets and treats, which always goes down well.”

Alongside sweets, savoury options like nachos or a pot of potatoes cooked over hot flames maintain a playful spirit during bonfire nights.

Plus, everything can be enjoyed outdoors without the formality of plates or cutlery.

No dishes, no worries!

SUCH A SERVE

To misquote William Shakespeare, to post, or not to post, that is the question.

Nowadays, food’s aesthetic to the eye is just as important as the peak of flavour to the tongue, and it’s part of the enjoyment that Simone gets from these nights.

But if you feel your dish isn’t Instagram-worthy, no-one is the wiser.

“When it’s all together, it always looks aesthetically pleasing, and knowing everyone’s made an effort to contribute makes it beautiful,” Simone said.

A NIGHT IN IS NEVER OFF THE TABLE

Ultimately, it’s not just about the food.

Choosing the right white

SELECTING THE PERFECT WHITE PAINT CAN TRANSFORM YOUR SPACE, BUT WITH SO MANY SHADES AND UNDERTONES, IT’S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE FOR YOUR HOME.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT white paint for your home can be a nuanced decision, as whites come in various shades with distinct undertones that can significantly influence the ambiance of your spaces.

Dulux offers a diverse range of white paints, each catering to different lighting conditions and interior styles.

Here are some things to consider when choosing the right white paint for your home.

WARM WHITES

These colours carry subtle peach, pink or yellow undertones.

These variations invite a relaxed warmth into

your home and can help soften spaces that don’t get a lot of sun.

NEUTRAL WHITES

The adaptability of using a neutral white allows easy scheming with many other colours and provides subtle warmth and great light reflection.

COOL WHITES

Are great for adding a modern or minimalist edge to a space.

They often carry blue or grey undertones and are useful in tempering bright light.

These colours are softer to the eye and can give you a feeling of a larger space within the room.

Make it sparkle

KEEP YOUR JEWELLERY LOOKING BRILLIANT WITHOUT PROFESSIONAL HELP — THESE SIMPLE AT-HOME TRICKS WILL BRING BACK THE SHINE AND SPARKLE.

HERE’S WHAT TO DO:

Dish soap and warm water: Mix a few drops of dish soap in warm water, soak your jewellery for 10-15 minutes, then gently scrub with a soft toothbrush to remove dirt and grime.

Baking Soda paste: Make a paste using baking soda and water, apply to tarnished silver, rub gently, then rinse clean for a fresh shine.

Toothpaste for polishing: Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a soft cloth and buff your jewellery to remove smudges and stains.

Vinegar and baking soda: For gold jewellery, soak it in a mixture of vinegar and baking soda for two to three hours, then rinse and dry it for an amazing shine.

It’s cold, get busy

WINTER BRINGS COOL TEMPERATURES AND RAINFALL, MAKING IT AN IMPORTANT TIME TO PREPARE YOUR GARDEN FOR SPRING.

Here are key tasks to focus on

PLANT WINTER VEGETABLES AND HERBS

Now is the time to grow:

• Broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, spinach, onions, garlic, peas, broad beans.

• Parsley, thyme, rosemary, chives, coriander.

PRUNE DECIDUOUS TREES AND SHRUBS

• Fruit trees (apple, pear, plum) benefit from winter pruning.

• Prune roses to promote strong growth for spring.

• Trim hydrangeas and remove dead branches from trees and shrubs.

IMPROVE SOIL AND MULCH GARDEN BEDS

• Apply organic compost to enrich the soil.

• Add a layer of mulch (straw, bark, or pea straw) to protect plant roots from frost.

LAWN CARE

• Avoid heavy foot traffic on wet lawns to prevent compaction.

• Remove weeds and apply a slow-release fertiliser.

PROTECT PLANTS FROM FROST

• Cover frost-sensitive plants with hessian or frost cloth at night.

• Move potted plants to sheltered areas if possible.

START A COMPOST BIN OR WORM FARM

• Use winter as a time to build nutrient-rich compost from food scraps, garden waste, and leaves.

PLANT BARE-ROOTED FRUIT TREES AND ROSES

• Winter is the best time to plant bare-rooted trees like apples, pears, cherries, and peaches.

• Also, consider planting bare-rooted roses for spring flowering.

ATTRACT WILDLIFE

• Provide bird feeders and water sources to attract native birds.

• Plant winter-flowering natives like grevillea and banksia to support pollinators.

PLAN FOR SPRING

• Start preparing garden beds for spring planting.

• Order seeds and bulbs (such as daffodils, tulips, and jonquils) for early blooms.

Dogs discover happy place

WELCOME TO UNLEASHED, THE ULTIMATE RETREAT FOR YOUR FURRY BEST FRIEND.

WHETHER YOU’RE HEADING to work or just want to give your pup the time of their life, they have got tails wagging all across town.

Open Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm — and starting Saturday, July 15 from 7am to 4pm — Unleashed offers more than just a place to drop your dog off.

They offer a second home for 48 dogs a day.

DAYCARE THAT FEELS LIKE PLAYCARE

Dogs at Unleashed aren’t just supervised — they’re engaged.

After a careful and safe drop-off routine, dogs are grouped into one of four secure yards, designed with safety and stimulation in mind.

From there, the real fun begins: outdoor adventures, splashes in the pool, romps through playhouses and even basic manners training.

With video and photo updates, you’ll see the joy in their eyes — without missing a moment.

TRAINING THAT FITS EVERY LIFESTYLE

Whether you’re raising a puppy or refining your older dog’s behaviour, Unleashed offers:

• Puppy training

• Level 1, 2 & 3 obedience

• One-on-one sessions

• In-home training (they come to you)

• Play and train: Your dog learns while they attend daycare, and you receive a personalised video and write-up.

Because they know your time is precious, they do the work for you —ensuring your dog gets the structure and support they need while you’re busy.

Unleashed is more than a business — it’s a passion project born out of love.

When the original owner decided to close up shop, Wilfred the French bulldog’s mum, Jenni Cleave, stepped in to keep the doors open.

Now, Unleashed is a haven for dogs like Wilfred — and those who need extra love and patience.

Take their proudest success story: a timid boxer once turned away due to its flighty nature now runs joyfully through our yards, tail wagging, friends in tow.

“Stories like this are why we do what we do,” business owner Jenni Cleave said.

Expect fur, slobber, and an overwhelming amount of tail wags.

Their staff are dedicated, dog-crazy humans who believe every pup deserves love, enrichment, and a safe space to thrive.

And the dogs? They can’t wait to get here.

Some start howling with excitement as soon as their humans turn the corner.

So, whether it’s for training, socialisation, or just a whole lot of fun, go and see what makes Unleashed the happiest place for dogs in town.

Ultimate slow cooker party

IN A WORLD WHERE BUSY schedules often mean rushed meals, there’s something truly special about a dish that’s been simmering for hours, filling the air with mouthwatering aromas.

Enter the slow cooker party — a gathering where everyone brings a slow-cooked dish to share, turning an ordinary dinner into a flavour-filler celebration.

HOW IT WORKS

A slow cooker party is a potluck-style event with a twist: every dish is made in a slow cooker.

Each guest arrives with their crock-pot creation, ready to plug in and serve.

From hearty stews and tender roasts to vegetarian curries and decadent desserts, the possibilities are endless.

With minimal prep and maximum flavour, it’s a stress-free way to host a dinner party.

SLOW COOKER PARTY PLAN

Set the date and send invitations

Choose a date and invite friends, family, or co-workers who enjoy cooking (or eating) a slowcooked meal.

Encourage guests to get creative with their dish selections.

Create a menu balance

To avoid ending up with five types of chilli, ask guests to sign up for different categories like soups, mains, sides and desserts.

LEXUS RX 450h+ PLUG-IN HYBRID

Variety ensures a well-rounded feast.

Provide the essentials

Since everyone will be bringing their own slowcooked dish, the host can focus on extras — plates, cutlery, serving spoons, and drinks.

Bread, rice, or salads make great complementary additions.

Set up a buffet-style spread

Arrange the slow cookers on a large table with extension cords and labels for each dish.

Guests can graze and sample different meals at their leisure.

Encourage friendly competition

Turn the night into a friendly cook-off by awarding prizes for categories like “Best Comfort Food,” “Most Creative Dish,” or “Best Dessert.”

Why a slow cooker party?

Not only does a slow cooker party guarantee a table full of delicious, home-cooked food, but it also creates a relaxed atmosphere.

Without the need for constant stirring or last-minute kitchen chaos, everyone can focus on enjoying the company and swapping recipes.

So gather your friends, dust off those slow cookers, and get ready for a night of delicious food and great conversation.

After all, good things come to those who wait — and in this case, those who slow cook.

2 celery stalks, finely sliced

3 large ripe tomatoes, roughly chopped
