ECHUCA MOAMA WEDDING AND EVENTS FESTIVAL HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO BOOK FOR YOUR SPECIAL DAY OR EVENT ON SHOW.
I would like to thank the Riverine Herald and the Echuca Moama Wedding and Events magazine for supporting the event.
The range of vendors in this magazine highlights the district’s wedding and event options.
The festival is an excellent opportunity to meet all the vendors for your special event in one place.
The festival provides a relaxing and casual place for everyone to connect with our special exhibitors and find everything you need to make your wedding or special event memorable.
I think it is lovely for brides and grooms to meet with vendors, particularly the photographers and celebrants, where you interact with them for a long time, and you have to feel comfortable with them.
In the past, at Echuca Moama Wedding and Events Festival, we have had visitors come through and tell us that they have been able to book everything at the festival in one convenient spot, with such a great range of vendors.
Along with general entry tickets, the event will again offer VIP tickets.
Limited to 50 brides and their entourage, VIPs will receive a gift package with extra vouchers, prizes, and access to a VIP-only room with champagne and nibbles.
The 2025 Echuca Moama Wedding and Events has opened up to a broader range of events, not just weddings.
This could be a wedding, engagement, birthday, family get-togethers, wedding anniversary or any special celebration you can think of.
Echuca Moama Wedding and Events Festival will be held at Echuca Racing Club on Sunday, May 4 from 10 am to 3 pm.

DISCOVER THE ENCHANTING WEDDING OF TAYLA AND BROCK HENDERSON AT LAKE CHARM. WHAT MADE THEIR DAY TRULY UNFORGETTABLE?
Kerang residents Tayla and Brock Henderson recently tied the knot at Lake Charm, a picturesque spot that holds a treasure trove of memories for the lovebirds.
"We actually met at Lake Charm,” Tayla said.
“Then we got engaged at Lake Charm.
“So, we thought it was quite fitting to get married out there as well."
The couple selected Charm Lodge for their venue, opting for the luxurious ‘3 Day Soiree’ package to extend their celebration.
This allowed them early access to set up and use all the facilities, including the house, caravan, and a tiny home.
“Charm Lodge made it easy for us; they provided us a document that showed us
everything for the day, like the floor plan, and they really helped us with that,” Tayla said.
“They let us look at other people’s weddings and how they were set up.
“I thought it was good to be able to set up yourself and we wanted simple.”
The bride and her attendants stayed at the venue the night before the wedding, while the groom and his party returned to town.
The wedding was a joyous affair, with 120 guests revelling in the laid-back atmosphere, complete with gourmet food trucks and a convivial cocktail-style reception.
A caravan served as a bar, offering a casual “grab a drink” approach.
Adding a touch of adventure, some guests embraced ‘glamping’, with about 10 luxury tents dotting the grounds.
The newlyweds themselves spent their first night as husband and wife under canvas stars.
Tayla wore two dresses on the day, changing into a shorter, more dance-friendly option for the reception.
Local businesses provided hair and make-up services, while photography was handled by In the Vine photographer from Bendigo.
"The day went so quickly because we were just enjoying ourselves the whole time, which, I think, is a good thing," Tayla said.
"We have had a lot of compliments saying that it was one of the funnest weddings people had ever been to. It was very laid back and very us."

Nestled just 23 kilometres from Moama on the banks of the Murray River lies Perricoota Station, a premier 650-acre property steeped in heritage, featuring stunning riverfront views, rolling pastures and towering river red gums.
Though the property has been a working station for over a century, it has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind wedding venue by owner Jodie Clark.
“I’ve always been drawn to the property’s stunning landscape and rich history,” Jodie shared.
“Dating back to the 1800s, Perricoota Station has seen generations pass through its doors. We take great pride in preserving its heritage while offering couples a breathtaking backdrop for their wedding day.”
Perricoota Station’s thoughtful design ensures that every couple can personalise their wedding experience. From luxurious seated dinners to relaxed cocktail receptions, the team works closely with each couple to make their vision a reality.
“We believe that your wedding day should reflect who you are and the love you share,” said Jodie.
The Station’s Packing Shed offers a beautiful, light-filled space for receptions, with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Inside, guests enjoy a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, with an open-plan layout perfect for dancing or a memorable dinner under the stars. Luxury accommodation is also available on-site, including rooms in the Watsons House and beautifully renovated quarters for the couple’s overnight stay.
“Perricoota Station has a way of making people feel at home. It’s a place where love stories are written into the landscape, and that’s what makes it so special,” said Jodie.

DRAWING ON HER EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE AS A CHEF AT HIGH-END HOTELS AND WEDDING CATERER, JOURNALIST JACI HICKEN SHARES INSIDER TIPS.
My first job as a chef was running canapésstyled events on a boat floating around Port Phillip Bay.
Much like the iconic paddle steamers that gracefully navigate the Murray River between Echuca and Moama.
This was followed by working as a chef in the banquet kitchen of one of Melbourne’s most luxurious 5-star hotels.
Over that time, I’ve plated up more than a few canapés at functions.
There are a few guidelines that chefs
follow when menu planning and setting for a canapés-style function.
TEN CANAPÉS FOR DINNER
Ensure your guests leave satisfied by carefully planning your canapés-style function, whether it’s for a main meal, lunch or dinner.
The ideal number of canapés to have for a main meal is 10.
No matter how much you think you will need more, if you have 10 menu options, there will likely be some leftover in the kitchen at the end of the event.
These 10 options can still be broken down further, with the ideal menu having four cold canapés, four hot canapés and two dessert canapés.
NO MORE THAN FOUR CANAPÉS AS AN ENTRÉE
For a three-course (or more) meal, limit your canapé selection to four: two cold and two hot options. This balance ensures variety without overwhelming guests.
Three should be enough, as there are mains and dessert to go.
At many functions, the beverages flow freely, and towards the end of the evening, many people may have a belly full of drinks.
Offering substantial canapés such as pies, pastries, and sausage rolls later in the evening can help balance alcohol consumption and ensure guest comfort.
If your function wedding, engagement party, birthday, anniversary will have a cake, then two dessert canapés are enough, as you want everyone to have cake.
Believe it or not, something that always goes down a treat is fruit on a stick the ideal dessert canapés.

LOZ AND KALE MAKEHAM CELEBRATED THEIR WEDDING IN OCTOBER 2024 AT TINDARRA RESORT IN ECHUCA-MOAMA, EMBRACING THE REGION’S RIVERSIDE CHARM.
The couple, who have made the area their home, chose the venue for its comprehensive offerings and accessibility.
“We wanted to have a wedding on the river somewhere,” Loz said.
“Obviously, if you are going to have a wedding in Echuca, you must have it on the river.
“I looked at a few different venues, and Tindarra stood out because it had everything, like the bar and the marquee if we needed it.”
Tindarra had everything the Makeham’s needed for their wedding: accommodation for friends and family, furniture and everything needed to set the wedding could be hired from the venue, as well as it being super accessible to town, removing the need to hire buses.
The riverside location provided a picturesque backdrop for the ceremony and reception.
The couple’s decision to host their wedding
in Echuca-Moama reflects their connection to the area.
By choosing Tindarra Resort, they could showcase the region’s charm to their guests, who travelled from other parts of Australia.
Originally from Darwin, the bride works as a theatre nurse at Echuca Regional Health.
Kale, a former professional motocross rider from Koondrook, now focuses on coaching and entrepreneurial ventures.
Their wedding, attended by about 110 guests, featured a boho theme with wildflowers and natural elements.
Loz’s dress from Grace Loves Lace set the tone for the event’s aesthetic.
“We had massive floral arrangements, as I love gardening, flowers and greenery,” Loz said.
“The florals were probably something that I focused on quite a bit.”
The couple’s arbour was full of wildflowers, daisies and greenery supplied by Bryant and Carlie Morrison at Seeds and Stems Events and Hire.
Loz’s hair was by Courtney Ryan from Salon Mane and her make-up was by Demi Ryan MakeUp, Bendigo.
Catering was by Two Tarts Catering, with the cake supplied by Bakes by Steph.
Photos were by an Echuca Moama wedding photo favourite, Monica McQuitty at Love by Shae, with video by Ellen Louise Weddings.
Loz booked the venue 14 months in advance, demonstrating her keen organisational skills and recognising the importance of early planning for a stress-free celebration.
The couple praised Tindarra’s events co-ordinator Pip Metcalf for ensuring a stressfree day.
“When I found out that Tindarra has the event planner on-site, I thought, ‘that is what they do’. They just know their own facility back to front,” Loz said.
“They didn’t need to ask us anything on the day because everything was so organised that they made a stress-free day for us.”
Added highlights for Loz of their wedding day included a saxophonist and a photo booth to create a super fun day for all.
While organising the wedding was mostly smooth sailing, getting the groom suited up proved to be an unexpected adventure in itself, with him leaving it to three weeks before the big day.
“Getting Kale organised was an absolute bloody nightmare,” Loz said.
“He just assumed that, like I wasn’t supposed to tell him anything about my dress, he just assumed that he wasn’t supposed to tell me anything about his suit.”
Loz had a fear that Kale’s suit would not match the boho theme of the wedding, but it did, as he opted for the Joe Paul Menswear’s linen jacket, black suit pants, white shirt, and black bow tie all set off with a newsboy cap.
Loz and Kale’s wedding seamlessly blended their personal styles with the local environment.
The boho theme complemented the natural riverside setting, creating a relaxed and memorable atmosphere for all attendees.

HAKKA HAIR DESIGN SENIOR STYLIST CHLOE HEALEY SHARES WHAT’S HOT FOR BRIDAL HAIR THIS SEASON.
“We are returning to that big high hair with the 1980s Pamela Anderson vibe,” Chloe said.
Pamela Anderson’s signature 1980s style featured bold fringe and bouncy, voluminous locks that maximised height and fullness.
Anderson was also known for the up-do, with its piled-high loose curls and tumbling tendrils, pulled together loosely on top of your head, with bangs framing the face.
Lately, Chloe has been creating numerous updos, including contemporary versions of the French twist, all with a deliberately tousled finish.
“But it depends on the bride as well because a lot of them have their own style they want,” she said.
“A lot of hair is soft, soft hair, with flowing waves and bits pulled out.
“Glamour waves remain a perennial favourite for bridal hairstyles, offering timeless elegance and sophistication.
“It is going between one or the other, traditional or softer.”
Glamour waves are fashionable and elegant hairstyles involving elevated, voluminous, smooth-flowing, uniform and loose curls.
Soft and romantic styles with flowers and simple objects, like classic pearls, add a touch of femininity to a bride’s hair on their big day.
“I think the times of having glittery, diamanté hairpieces are gone,” Chloe said.
“But people put fresh flowers, little pearls and simple little things in their hair.
“They don’t have massive headpieces like they used to.”
Chloe has noticed a shift towards weekday weddings, with an increasing number of couples opting for Thursday and Friday celebrations.
Her most significant advice for brides is to make sure you book in for a hair rehearsal.
“This is so we all have the same ideas of what you would like with your hair, creating the look you want,” Chloe said.

THE ECHUCA WORKERS IS A CHERISHED VENUE FOR THE LAWFORD FAMILY, HOSTING A SERIES OF SIGNIFICANT CELEBRATIONS OVER THE YEAR
Mikael Lawford, a long-time club member, shared his experiences with enthusiasm.
“We had three family functions in three years at the Workers,” Mikael said.
“My 30th, my mother’s 60th and my father’s 60th, probably with 60 or 70 people at each.”
The family’s connection to the club runs deep.
“I am a member at the Workers, we all are,” Mikael said.
“Dad has probably been a member since it first opened.”
Mikael recounted the surprise party they organised for his father’s 60th birthday, Darky Lawford.
“He’s the sort of man who doesn’t like a fuss or doesn’t want a party,” he said.
The family worked with the club staff to orchestrate the surprise, which initially met with some resistance from his father.
“He just thought he was going for tea,” Mikael said.
“We just said that to the lady at the front counter, and she just said ‘The dining rooms booked and the overflows going into the function room’.”
“Dad, being Dad, said, “If I’m not sitting in the proper room, we might as well go home.
“But we got him in there.”
The Lawford family has found the Echuca Workers the ideal venue for their celebrations.
“It is easy to go to, and everyone there is just really nice and nothing is ever a problem,” Mikael said.
He praised the club’s facilities, including the function room with its own bar and the staff’s attentiveness to details.
The affordability of hosting events at the club has been a pleasant surprise for the family.
“When we got the bill, especially with Dad’s party, with his old mates at the bar, the bar never stopped, so we were a bit worried, but once we got the bill we were presently surprised,” Mikael said.
The positive experiences have led to a tradition of weekly visits to the club.
“We used to go to the Workers once a week when they had their steak night,” Mikael said.
“Then we swapped from that to go on the Wednesday to their raffle night.
“The whole family usually goes along, mum, dad, everyone.”
Mikael’s endorsement of the Echuca Workers Club was unequivocal.
“The food is always good, I’ve never had a bad meal there,” he said.
“If someone comes from out of town and asked us where to go for tea, we always say ‘go to the Echuca Workers’.”

NEW OWNER OF SEW BRIDAL AND SPECIAL OCCASIONS IN ECHUCA JODIE WEEKS IS BREATHING FRESH LIFE INTO THE BRIDAL SHOP FORMERLY KNOWN AS DEBLU’S.
Taking over the business at the end of April last year, Jodie is gradually transforming the store to meet modern bridal needs.
“I am trying to make it a bit more modern, a bit fresher and expand the range of motherof-the-bride and guest wear,” Jodie said.
“We don’t have a lot at the moment, so I am looking to do a few new ranges, maybe some custom-made stuff and that sort of thing.”
Jodie, who has a sewing and fabric retail background, is passionate about providing a comprehensive service to local brides.
“People from here buy a dress in the city, because they think they have to, but we have a very good range,” she said.
“We can get things in for people that they want, and I can alter anything that needs altering, if it comes in and it is not quite right.”
The store offers a wide range of bridal wear, including dresses from popular brands such as
International Couture, Tanya Olsen Designs, and Sugar & Spice.
Jodie is also introducing new labels like Lulu & Lace and Tina Holly.
The range includes wedding dresses, debutante dresses, mother of the bride and bridesmaids’ dresses.
The store can accommodate all sizes and is happy to get the same bridesmaids’ dresses in, in various sizes or different dresses in the same colour or material if that is the look a wedding party is after.
“The current trends are either quite plain or very fancy, and there is not a lot in between,” Jodie said, describing the various styles available.
“Sparkly, full, big, and lots of detail.
“People tend to either go for that or something really plain, but I have got lots of in-between.”
Jodie thinks it is essential to make your wedding your own special day, making it what you want it to be.
In addition to bridal wear, Sew Bridal and Special Occasions offers men’s suit hire, helium balloons for any occasion and is an agent for Bendigo Dry Cleaners.
While the building housing the store is currently for sale, Jodie is committed to serving the local community.
“As long as I am allowed, I’ll stay here,” she said.
“It is pretty purpose-built and really good for the purpose, we have plenty of room here, three change rooms and a workroom.”
Soon, as she has to wait for council approval for the heritage-listed shopfront, Jodie will be sprucing up the store to create a formal, very tailored-to-the-wedding look store.

The multi-award-winning business, run by Debi Kitt, offers a comprehensive range of travel services.
Debi knows what’s hot in honeymoon destinations and can help you plan the most memorable honeymoon.
“If you are looking to stay in Australia for your honeymoon, The Whitsundays are the go-to, with crystal clear water and silica white sand in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef,” Debi said.
For many couples, a honeymoon is more
than just a holiday — it’s a celebration of their love, a chance to unwind, and an opportunity to create lifelong memories together.
For Debi, this means many newlyweds are choosing to venture overseas for their honeymoon.
“This year, some honeymooners are opting for destinations overseas, but a little closer to home, with Fiji and the Cook Islands being popular,” Debi said.
“Thailand is still high on the destination list for many couples.”
If you are dreaming of a longer European getaway, Greece with its sun-kissed islands, and Croatia's stunning Adriatic coast are top choices for an unforgettable honeymoon.
For a touch of romance, France and the City of Light, Paris is still popular with couples.
Couples can rely on Boomerang Travel for

CONGRATULATIONS, NOW YOU ARE ENGAGED AND YOUR WEDDING IS JUST 12 MONTHS AWAY! A YEAR CAN GO QUICKLY AND THERE ARE CERTAIN MILESTONES TO REACH ALONG YOUR PLANNING JOURNEY, SO BELOW IS A MONTH-BY-MONTH GUIDE OF WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AND WHEN.
12 MONTHS
Find inspiration for the styling/theme of the wedding.
Draw up a budget of how much you want to spend.
Ask friends or relatives to be in the wedding party, such as bridesmaids and groomsmen, flower girls and pageboys, ceremony poem or prayer readers.
Pick a wedding date and time: select several options then check these with your venues, celebrant and important guests. Then book in the wedding ceremony venue, reception venue and celebrant.
Delegate tasks: you can either plan the wedding yourselves, pay a wedding planner to do it, or delegate some tasks to loved ones you trust.
Do the guest list as early as possible, as many bookings relate to this.
Start researching and trying on wedding dress options — and purchase or order in as soon as possible.
Plan the reception food/choose from menus and book in the caterer.
Plan the styling of your wedding — and either start collecting the items you need, or pay a decorator to co-ordinate this.
Make an order to the florist for the bouquets, boutonnieres, flowers for close family to wear and flowers for the venues.
Book in the photographer and videographer.
Register for gifts at your favourite department store — ideally one with an online ordering capacity for out-of-town guests.
Book in rental companies if you need to rent anything for the ceremony or reception, such as decorations, chairs, tables, tents, sound equipment.
If an engagement party is intended, plan this for the first few months after the engagement. Consider registering for gifts or putting gift suggestions (such as cash towards the honeymoon) on the invitation.
6–8 MONTHS
Send save-the-date cards, and specify whether children will or will not be invited.
Book the ceremony entertainment (such as musicians or a DJ).
Buy the bridesmaids’ dresses and buy or advise them on which type of shoes to source.
4–6 MONTHS
Design and order the invitations and place settings at the same time, to save money with a bundle deal.
Buy the wedding rings.
Buy or organise to rent the suits for the groom and groomsmen, and don’t forget the shoes.
Buy any under-garments for the wedding dress before the final fitting, to ensure a streamlined look.
Buy jewellery.
Start having dance lessons now for the formal dances.
3 MONTHS
Mail the wedding invitations.
Plan the wedding cake and book in the cake maker.
Hire wedding-day transport, such as limousines, vintage or other specialty vehicles.
Book the hair and make-up artists for the whole bridal party, and have a trial one or two months beforehand.
Make bookings for the honeymoon, and renew passports if planning an overseas trip.
Purchase bonbonnieres.
2 MONTHS
Have the hen’s night and buck’s night.
Write the wedding vows.
Purchase thank-you gifts for parents and the wedding party.
Apply for a marriage licence (your celebrant should be able to help with this).
1 MONTH
Do the final RSVP count and chase up any outstanding ones, then finalise catering numbers.
Have the final wedding dress fitting, and bring the maid of honour along to learn how to bustle the dress. Have the dress pressed and store it neatly at home.
Ensure every item is purchased for the bridesmaids’ and groomsmen’s outfits, right down to the shoes, jewellery/ cufflinks, undergarments and men’s socks.
Call all key vendors to confirm arrangements, make payments, fill in any last-minute forms and submit required itineraries.
Make personalised itineraries for the wedding party members and any other key wedding vendors, including the day’s proceedings with times and a list of key contact numbers, and nominate a person responsible for each key area on the day so vendors know who to talk to in case of an emergency. Also, organise someone to return any hired items the day after the wedding.
Make a wedding program to be handed out to guests on the day.
Do the reception seating chart and send to the wedding planner/decorator or related person.
2 WEEKS
Give a list of essential photographs to the photographer, including any key family pics you want, to ensure you don’t miss out.
Confirm a final song list with the DJ or musician, and the songs for important moments – such as the walk-in to the reception, the first dance, the father-daughter dance, and the exit song for the end of the night – and an indication as to what time these should occur.
The bride should get a haircut and colour.
The groom and groomsmen should go for their final fitting and pick up their suits.
Call all wedding vendors to re-confirm arrangements, ask for any last-minute details they require and make any final payments.
The groom should get a hair-cut.
2–3 DAYS
Double check that the wedding dress is crinkle-free; if not, organise a last-minute press.
Drop off the place cards, table numbers, menus, decorations and bonbonnieres to the person responsible for the wedding/ ceremony venue set-ups.
Have any fake tan and manicure/pedicure appointments.
DAY BEFORE
Do a dress rehearsal with the wedding party to ensure everyone knows what to do, where to stand and when to walk.
Usually the table settings are done in the afternoon; double check these once complete and make any last-minute suggestions to the decorator.
If there is time, book in a relaxing massage for the late afternoon or early evening.
NIGHT BEFORE
Aim for a relaxing evening with key loved ones.
Also ensure you are in bed early and don’t drink too much, so you are well rested for the wedding day.
Give a small memento to the wedding party members the night before, as a thank-you for their support. For bridesmaids, often this is some jewellery to wear at the wedding.
Give wedding bands to the best man and maid of honour to hold during the ceremony.
You are well organised and the key people have been nominated as responsible for particular tasks/areas on the day – so now it is time to simply relax and enjoy the day yourself.
Write and send thank-you notes to guests and helpful vendors.

Planning a wedding can feel like learning a new language, where every phrase has a different meaning.
Whether you’re a bride-to-be decoding wellmeaning advice or a bridesmaid surviving the group chat, this glossary will help you navigate wedding jargon with humour and truth.
Let’s break down the most commonly used phrases and translate them into what they really mean.
BRIDAL GLOSSARY
“I just want a simple wedding.”
Translation: I want a Pinterest-perfect, magazineworthy wedding that somehow still feels effortless.
“It’s not about the gifts.”
But also, if you don’t use the registry and show up with a candle, I’ll remember it forever.
“It’s fine.”
It is absolutely NOT fine. There’s a 98 per cent chance I’m fuming inside.
“I don’t care which dress you pick.”
(From the bride to the bridesmaids)
I totally care. There will be an entire group chat meltdown if you pick the wrong one.
“We’re keeping it small and intimate.”
We will invite 150 people and still feel guilty about
the ones we left out.
“We’ll DIY it to save money.”
We will spend triple the budget on craft supplies, have an emotional breakdown, and still end up hiring a professional.
“No kids at the wedding.”
Except my flower girl, my ring bearer, my cousin’s baby, and my best friend’s toddler because he’s cute.
“I just want everyone to have a good time.”
But also, if you don’t dance, cry during speeches, and compliment the décor at least five times, I’ll take it personally.
“The groom doesn’t care about the details.”
He thinks ‘dusty rose’ and ‘blush’ are the same colour, so he lost all voting rights.
“We’re sticking to the budget.”
HAHAHA. That lasted five minutes.
“We’re writing our own vows.”
One of us will have a poetic masterpiece, and the other will panic and say something about pizza and sports.
“I don’t want a big cake.”
But I will absolutely throw a fit if the mini cake is not Instagram-worthy.

“It’s a casual wedding.”
There will be a dress code, a seating chart, and my mother-in-law will judge your outfit.
“We don’t need a wedding planner.”
My maid of honour and I will Google ‘how to plan a wedding’ every night at 2 am and cry.
“We’ll only do one speech.”
Every family member, bridesmaid, and childhood friend will ‘accidentally’ grab the mic.
