AFTER TWO YEARS OF WEDDING CANCELLATIONS AND RESCHEDULING DUE TO LOCKDOWNS AND GOVERNMENTIMPOSED RESTRICTIONS, THERE’S A REAL BUZZ AROUND WEDDINGS WITHOUT ROADBLOCKS IN 2022.
Couples have gained a new perspective after having time to consider what’s important to them, and why they’re getting married.
The knock-on effect has been a surge of weddings that are inherently more personal and meaningful.
Couples are creating their own traditions and ditching any that no longer seem relevant.
In the local area, there have been some clear trends emerging.
Outdoor weddings on private properties have been the most popular venue, and with the river and gorgeous countryside right at our doorstep you can understand why.
Local brides and grooms are opting for more stripped-back and simple décor to let the beautiful landscape of the Riverina, their home, speak for itself.
Earthy colour palettes such as greens, tans and oranges have been popular, which complement the environment perfectly and go with the rustic country theme that has been trending over the last couple of years.
Now that weddings are back in full, an available weekend can be hard to come by.
So many couples are opting for weekday weddings, which wedding venues and providers may offer at discounted prices.
Wedding traditions are being thrown out the window in 2022, with couples wanting their weddings to be more of a relaxed, party vibe.
They are opting to have mismatched, mixed gender wedding parties or ditch them all together to focus solely on what a wedding is all about – the married couple!
The cake cutting, bouquet toss and first dance have also disappeared from many celebrations, replaced with alternative, nontraditional activities instead.
Brides are choosing to have their mum, sibling, mum and dad, grandmother or grandfather walk them down the aisle, and let’s not forget the addition of fur babies into the wedding.
One of the most important trends that has emerged stronger than ever since the pandemic is the importance of shopping local.
There are so many local providers that specialise in everything weddings, many featured in this magazine.
So be sure to look local first when planning your wedding – or any celebration.
YOUR WEDDING RING IS SOMETHING THAT YOU'LL WANT TO WEAR FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, SO IT HAS TO BE PERFECT.
NARROW YOUR CHOICES
Because this is one of the few pieces — if not the only piece — of jewellery you’ll shop for together and wear every day, make some preliminary choices before you hit the stores. What colour metal do you prefer: yellow, white or rose? Are you interested in something simple or over-the-top?
START YOUR SEARCH EARLY
Once you have a basic idea of what you want, head into our store. Give yourselves at least two months to browse, research, price and revisit rings that catch your eye.
Allow even more time if you’re interested in a custom piece; extras such as engraving can take more time too.

BE PRACTICAL
Keep your lifestyle in mind at all times. Remember, you'll be wearing this band every day. The idea is to choose something that seamlessly becomes a part of your life.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 11, 2021 // MAYRUNG
SARAH AND ANTHONY WANTED THEIR WEDDING TO HAVE A RELAXED AND NATURAL FEEL.
Their gorgeous venue was a private property in Mayrung. There were no seating plans or sit-down meals, the theme was boho rustic with a tan colour palette, while wonderful pops of orange complimented their surroundings perfectly.
Despite their plans being reshuffled multiple times, Sarah said the relaxed, worryfree atmosphere made the day.
“Two weeks out from the wedding we had to completely cancel everything due to being in lockdown,” Sarah said.
“One week out restrictions changed allowing up to 11 people at the ceremony,
inclusive of ourselves, a celebrant and photographer.
“Then one day before, restrictions changed again allowing 50 people to attend weddings.
“We changed our original date from the 10th to the 11th, and in a day and a half pulled together a beautiful backyard wedding with our original 40 guests, minus one bridesmaid and two friends from South Australia.
“Due to border closures and our caterers being from Echuca we had to self-cater.
“We organised a heap of barbecue meat from Central IGA Deniliquin, bread rolls and bread from Baker’s Delight, family
members made salads and potato bakes and we did made our own grazing platter for the canapes.”
Sarah said not putting so much pressure on perfection will help you to enjoy the day more.
“Not everything will go exactly how you planned it, and that’s okay!” she said.
“The point of a wedding is to celebrate your relationship and not worry about all the minor details and what others might think, because it’s your day!
“We had the best day and night because there was no fuss or worries about our original plans not working out.”

CONGRATULATIONS, NOW YOU ARE ENGAGED AND YOUR WEDDING IS JUST 12 MONTHS AWAY! A YEAR CAN GO SO QUICKLY AND THERE ARE CERTAIN MILESTONES TO REACH ALONG YOUR PLANNING JOURNEY, SO BELOW IS A MONTH-BY-MONTH GUIDE OF WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE WHEN.
Find inspiration for the styling/theme of the wedding.
Draw up a budget of how much you want to spend.
Ask friends or relatives to be a part of your special day: ie the wedding party, such as bridesmaids and groomsmen, flower girls and pageboys, ceremony poem or prayer readers, vocalist.
Pick a wedding date and time: select several options then check these with your venues, celebrant and important guests. Then book in the wedding ceremony venue, reception venue and celebrant.
Delegate tasks: you can either plan the wedding yourselves, pay a wedding planner to do it, or delegate some tasks to loved ones you trust.
Do the guest list as early as possible, as many bookings relate to this.
8–10 MONTHS
Start researching and trying on wedding dress options — and purchase or order in as soon as possible.
Plan the reception food/choose from menus (include options for dietary) and book in the caterer.
Plan the styling of your wedding — and either start collecting the items you need, or pay a decorator to co-ordinate this.
Make an order to the florist for the bouquets, boutonnieres, flowers for close family to wear and flowers for the venues.
Book in the photographer and videographer.
Organise a Gift Registry at one of your favourite stores –ideally one with an online ordering capacity for out-of-town guests.
Book in rental companies if you need to rent anything for the ceremony or reception, such as decorations, chairs, tables, tents, sound equipment.
If an engagement party is intended, plan this for the first few months after the engagement announcement. Consider a Gift Registry or suggesting gift ideas (such as cash towards the honeymoon) on the invitation.
6–8 MONTHS
Send save-the-date cards, and specify whether children will or will not be invited.
Book the ceremony entertainment (such as musicians or a DJ).
Buy the bridesmaids’ dresses and buy or advise them on which type of shoes to source.
4–6 MONTHS
Select a design and order the invitations and place settings at the same time, to save money with a bundle deal.
Buy the wedding rings.
Buy or organise to rent the suits for the groom and groomsmen, and don’t forget the shoes.
Buy any undergarments for fitting under the wedding dress before the final fitting, to ensure a streamlined look.
Buy jewellery.
Start having dance lessons now for the formal dances.
3 MONTHS
Mail the wedding invitations.
Plan the wedding cake and book in the cake maker.
Hire wedding day transport, such as limousines, vintage or other specialty vehicles.
Book the hair and make-up artists for the whole bridal party, and have a trial one or two months beforehand.
Make bookings for the honeymoon, and renew passports if planning an overseas trip.
Purchase bonbonnieres.
2 MONTHS
Have the hen’s night and buck’s night.
Write the wedding vows.
Purchase thank you gifts for parents and the wedding party.
Complete a notice of intended marriage and other forms (your celebrant should be able to help with this).
1 MONTH
Do the final RSVP count and chase up any outstanding ones, then finalise catering numbers.
Have the final wedding dress fitting, and bring the Maid of Honour along to learn how to bustle the dress. Have the dress pressed and store it neatly at home.
Ensure every item is purchased for the bridesmaids’ and groomsmen’s outfits, right down to the shoes, jewellery, cufflinks, undergarments and men’s socks.
Call all key vendors to confirm arrangements, make payments, fill in any last minute forms and submit required itineraries.
Make personalised itineraries for the wedding party members and any other key wedding vendors, including the day’s proceedings with times and a list of key contact numbers, and nominate a person responsible for each key area on the day so vendors know who to talk to in case of an emergency. Also, organise someone to return any hired items the day after the wedding.
Make a wedding program to be handed out to guests on the day. Do the reception seating chart and send to the wedding planner/ decorator or related person.
2 WEEKS
Give a list of essential photographs to the photographer to then discuss - including any key family pictures you want, to ensure you don’t miss out.
Confirm a final song list with the DJ or musician, and the songs for important moments – such as the walk-in to the reception, the first dance, the father-daughter dance, and the exit song for the end of the night – and an indication as to what time these should occur.
The bride should get a haircut and colour.
1 WEEK
The groom and groomsmen should go for their final fitting and pick up their suits.
Call all wedding vendors to reconfirm arrangements, ask for any last-minute details they require and make any final payments.
The groom should get a haircut.
2–3 DAYS
Double check that the wedding dress is crinkle-free; if not, organise a last minute press.
Drop off the place cards, table numbers, menus, decorations and bonbonnieres to the person responsible for the wedding/ ceremony venue set-ups.
Have any fake tan and manicure/pedicure appointments.
DAY BEFORE
Do a dress rehearsal with the wedding party to ensure everyone knows what to do, where to stand and when to walk.
Usually the table settings are done in the afternoon; double check these once complete and make any last minute suggestions to the decorator.
If there is time, book in a relaxing massage for the late afternoon or early evening.
NIGHT BEFORE
Aim for a relaxing evening with key loved ones.
Also ensure you are in bed early and don’t drink too much, so you are well rested for the wedding day.
Give a small memento to the wedding party members the night before, as a thank you for their support. For bridesmaids, often this is some jewellery to wear at the wedding.
Give wedding bands to the best man and maid of honour to hold during the ceremony.
You are well organised and the key people have been nominated as responsible for particular tasks/areas on the day – so now it is time to simply relax and enjoy the day yourself.
Write and send thank you notes to guests and helpful vendors.
FINDING THE PERFECT GOWN CAN OFTEN BE THE MOST STRESSFUL PART OF THE WEDDING PROCESS.
Whether you have been dreaming of the dress since you were five or haven’t had a single thought about it until the proposal, these five tips should help you along the way in finding the perfect dress.
You must have these three locked in before you start looking for the dress. It ensures you remain focused on a particular category of dress and don’t go off track. Your rustic, country themed wedding which is taking place on a beautiful farm may not suit the bedazzled Cinderella gown you have accidentally fallen in love with. The date you lock in for your wedding will also impact the material and style of your dress.
Figure out how much you want to spend before you go looking. Ensure you factor in the smaller things like shoes and accessories into this amount. Tell your sales assistant before you start trying on gowns; you want to avoid trying on dresses well above your budget and risk being disappointed. There is something perfect for every budget!
Begin shopping six to nine months before your wedding. It takes about four months for a manufacturer to make a dress and another two months to complete the alterations. But don’t start too early, if you do that you could risk falling out of love with it.
Plan all the bridal shops you are going to hit and call ahead to book appointments. Find out which designers they carry, the price range of their dresses, and if they sell accessories and provide alterations. Also plan who you want to bring along with you. A recommended number of people is no more than three at a time.
Many bridal consultants will repeat this line to you, and sometimes it pays to take their advice. Even if some dresses don’t seem to fit your style, give it a go, you never know what you might fall in love with when seeing it on you rather than on the hanger.
If you’re looking for some inspiration for your bridesmaids’ dresses, here are some recent trends which have been emerging from local weddings.
For so long wearing black at a wedding has been avoided, but brides and bridesmaids in 2022 are embracing it, with black and navy bridesmaids’ dresses becoming an emerging trend. It’s a chic choice, a colour that suits everyone and one that makes a statement. Plus, your bridesmaids will love the fact they will be able to wear the dress time and time again.
In the same realm, the idea of wearing white to a wedding and not being the bride has historically been considered blasphemy. But not anymore, because in 2022 the entire bridal party being in white has become a popular trend. Clean, crisp shades of white never go out of style. They're universally flattering, versatile and they work for every type of wedding, from a laid-back boho bash to a glam, black-tie celebration.
Pair them with some bold, bright coloured bouquets and you have a super fun, fresh look.
Olive, rust, tan, orange, terracotta and yellow have become increasingly popular for bridesmaids in 2022. They are particularly fitting to an outside wedding, where they will complement perfectly to the surrounding environment and look great in photos.
Different styles look better on certain body shapes, and your bridesmaids will know what works best for them. So why not let them pick! Don’t be afraid to mix and match; it adds a really fun element to the wedding, looks great in photos your bridesmaids will thank you for it. Just ensure that your bridal party is across the colour scheme and theme of your wedding, so everything blends and no one sticks out.
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 19, 2021 // DENILIQUIN
GEMMA AND MICK WANTED TO SHOWCASE THE BEAUTIFUL ENVIRONMENT THEY KNOW AND LOVE ON THEIR BIG DAY.
With the Edward River in front of them and wheat crops behind, the rural location was picturesque and really set the tone. Held on their friends Andrew and Penny Hicks’ property ‘Wandi Creek’, the rustic country themed wedding was simple, yet breathtaking.
“We wanted the day to really showcase the environment we connect to and reflect what is important to us – the outdoors, simplicity, friends and family,” said Gemma.
Gemma and Mick kept the occasion as open air as they could to allow their guests to
appreciate the beauty of the huge night sky over the Edward River region.
“We had a clear marquee and dance floor,” said Gemma.
“The towering red gums and the mighty Edward River were our big features, and of course Mick’s FJ45 Landcruiser which he had been working on tirelessly for 12 months leading up to the wedding and is the car we arrived in.”
Gemma said while having the wedding on a private property was an effort and a little stressful at points, she and Mick both agreed that they would not have changed a thing.
“It was a huge team effort to bring the day together on the farm,” she said.
“We had to bring everything in ourselves, from water tanks to toilets, to a generator for power!
“The early afternoon rain added an element of stress to the day, however once I arrived at ‘Wandi Creek’ it was perfect, and I was so excited.
“I couldn't wait to marry Mick and furthermore, couldn't wait to celebrate with all of our wonderful family and friends.”

YOU HAVE CHOSEN YOUR A-LIST GROUP OF FAMILY MEMBERS AND BEST FRIENDS TO STAND BY YOUR SIDE AS GROOMSMEN ON YOUR SPECIAL DAY, AND NOW IT IS TIME FOR THE FUN PART – TO STYLE THEM AND YOURSELF!
Finding the perfect suit is important to ensure you are looking and feeling good on your big day.
You want your suit to be a reminder of the special day, so it’s important to wear something other than the old ‘good for everything suit’ you wore to your first job interview and high school formal.
With so many options available, it is hard to know where to begin.
Considering personal style, timeless colours, and today's trends is a foolproof formula to ensure you and your groomsmen will look great on your wedding day.
It is important to also keep in mind the overall vibe of your wedding. Have a discussion with your bride about your theme and the atmosphere you want to create on the day, as well as some details of the bride’s dress and bridesmaids’ dresses, without giving away too much of course.
Also consider the season your wedding is planned for; this will determine whether you purchase a lightweight material or heavy tweed for example.
Now that answers to the basic questions have been established, it’s time to have a look at the trends.
TIMELESS AND TRADITIONAL
A suit that will never go out of fashion is the classic tuxedo, finished with a sleek bow tie of your choosing and a pocket square.
These are the versatile black and navy suits which pay ode to the effortless cool of the 1920’s black tux and look toward the future at the same time. This type of suit is perfect for the couple that wants to achieve a classic or modern vibe without looking stuffy or out of the box.
While black or blue suits are the safest colours for grooms and groomsmen, an eggplant, wine or burgundy coloured suit is certainly a way to make a statement on your wedding day. Experimenting with different shades of red has been very popular in 2022 for grooms. Pairing a red wine-coloured bow tie or necktie with a sleek black suit is a classic, yet statement look.
MICRO-PRINTS
If you are a groom who wants something different, but don’t want to commit to a bold colour, material or pattern, the micro-print suit is for you. Tiny patterns add instant luxury to a groomswear look, and they're one of the most wearable trends
OVERSIZED CHECK
Oversized check suits are for the more relaxed vibe, while still making an impact. They photograph well and are a great option for the laid back, eclectic backyard wedding.
TAILORED FIT
The fit of your suit is extremely important to ensure you are comfortable, but still look sharp. The slim-fit suit is being left
in 2021, and grooms are leaning toward a more tailored fit. Too tight and you are uncomfortable the whole time, and too big you look like you are wearing your daggy uncle’s second-hand suit. You want a snug yet comfortable fit that tapers slightly at the waist and ankle. This will give a neat, sharp and Don Draper type look.
You’ve sorted out your suit, now you need a bow tie or necktie to go with it.
If you are wondering which option is best for your wedding, here are the benefits and drawbacks of both to guide your decision.
Neckties are usually more comfortable and familiar to the groom and groomsmen. They are easier to tie and tend to look better for heartier or taller grooms. They also come in a variety of colours and styles so you will certainly find what you are looking for.
But neckties can sometimes be seen as too casual. So if your wedding is more formal, you will most likely want to wear a bow tie.
Bow ties will make more of a statement and show off your personality. Bow ties for the groom are versatile, they must be worn with a tux, but can also be worn with a more casual look. Bow ties will make you feel special, which is important on your big day.
You may feel uncomfortable with a bow tie. Remember feeling comfortable on your wedding day is just as important as looking good.
SUNDAY MARCH 21, 2021// MATHOURA
LEONIE AND JOSS WANTED THEIR WEDDING TO REFLECT THEM.
The outdoor theme reflected their mutual love for the outdoors and the choice to not have a wedding party helped them focus solely on what a wedding is really about – the bride and groom.
“The outdoors inspired our wedding location and floral decorations, right down to the small details like greenery on our savethe-date cards, invitations, and our timber welcome sign and cake topper,” said Leonie.
While the couple lives in Tocumwal, they chose to have their ceremony at the Timbercutter at Picnic Point, Mathoura, where the Edward and Murray rivers meet. They say it was the perfect representation of the their love.
“We are both outdoor people who love the water, so it was important for us to be married near water.
“We chose to have green native foliage with a seasonal mix of white for our flowers. The native foliage was important to us given the surroundings of our ceremony.”
Leonie said the standout moments of their wedding were having their children and family involved in the ceremony, their vows and their wedding favours which sent each guest home with ‘forget-me-not seeds’ to plant, ensuring that their special day will be remembered for a long time.
“During the ceremony, our children brought up our rings, and our daughter held my bouquet. There was lots of laughter, happy tears and love.
“In place of a bridal party, we had our mothers both do readings in our ceremony. We chose a funny but romantic poem for Joss'
mother Deb to read, and a Maori blessing for my mother, Mavora.
“We also had Joss’ brother Jeremy and my grandmother Margory be our witnessesboth incredibly special people to us.”
The Cardillos said the best advice they can give to future couples is to enjoy the planning process and have fun.
“Be sure to make decisions to create a wedding that celebrates you as a couple and not feel pressured to include an element in your wedding because it is what is socially accepted or what others are doing.
“Make your wedding personal and remember what is important to you and your partner.”
