Graduation season comes to a close across Solano Rodriguez, Early College graduates ‘make some noise’ Matt Miller MMILLER@DAILYREPUBLIC.NET
FAIRFIELD — Early College High School valedictorian Mashika Mrema stood before his fellow class graduates – and those from Rodriguez High School – and got a full Ed Hopkins Memorial Stadium to roar Friday when he said, “This is the day we have been fighting for, for the last 12 years. Make some noise!” Mrema was one of the 64 Early College graduates who participated in commencements with the 446 from Rodriguez. Students from both schools filled up a large swath of half the football field – the graduates dressed in green and white robes to celebrate the achievement on a hot and windy evening. FAIRFIELD — Public Safety Academy seniors took to the stage Friday at Willow Hall to get the much-coveted high school diploma. The graduating class of 53 students dressed in dark blue graduation gowns, celebrated the success of four years of hard work with one final act for their school. On one of the hottest days in June, Kris Corey, superintendent of the Fairfield-Suisun School District, spoke on how well the cadets exemplified the school creed. The creed was referenced often during the ceremony. It says: “I strive to achieve academic excellence. I exemplify high moral character. I work diligently to prepare for the future. I know my success in school and in life is dependent on my own effort.” “You all made a commitment to something bigger coming to PSA,” Corey said. It was not easy, but they worked hard and persevered. “I am looking forward

Class president Nolan Caragan’s speech was a little humorous and a tad serious. He talked about saying goodbye to uniforms, and shined shoes, and welcoming new clothing freedom, with hoodies but also how some students would be going to put on another uniform. Some would be studying long hours and creating reports and giving presentations and
others would be looking at starting their own businesses. “For all we do, stay true to who we are and what we like,” he said. “In time our gifts will reveal themselves to us.” The one big family is breaking up but his best high school memories will be of the times he spent with friends. “You are some of the most good-hearted people I have ever met,” See PSA, Page A11

FAIRFIELD — The 541 graduates of the Armijo High Class of 2022 will carry into the future – some more consciously than others – the unfulfilled expectations of the two graduates who could not attend the commencement ceremony Friday. Family members of Jarrell Butler and Jommel Infante accepted diplomas on behalf of their loved ones who died during their senior years at Armijo High School. They were described by one staff member as “Fairfield-Suisun’s finest.” “It has been a very tough year at Armijo,” Kate Bollman said. District Superintendent Kris Corey acknowledged the pair in her speech to the class as well. And there were other challenges, including what Ria Patel, one of five valedictorians, described as “our two weeks’ vacation from school that turned into a year and a half.” Still, there was plenty to cheer about, including that impressive roll of five valedictorians among a list of 73 highest
