FAIRFIELD — The usual indoor Highest Honors awards ceremony gave way Wednesday to an outdoor event for 2022 as the number of 4.0 GPA students surged even as Covid has done. There were 185 top students on the turf at Ed Hopkins Memorial Field at Rodriguez High School. All of them achieved GPAs of at least 4.0, with most going beyond that. Armijo, Fairfield, Rodriguez, the Public Safety Academy and
Early College high schools were all represented. “Nearly half of your high school careers were spent attending classes through a computer screen,” said Bethany Smith, the board president for the Fairfield-Suisun School District. “I encourage you to stay focused on big goals and build an amazing reality.” The Highest Honors ceremony is held each year in a collaboration between the school district and the cities of Fairfield and Suisun City. Leaders were present to represent
all parties. “Congratulations High Honor students,” Superintendent Kris Corey said. “It’s so great to be back in person. It’s so fun to be out here and remember normal times. We might be competing with the Warriors (Golden State, the NBA team, had a playoff game at the same time) but you are all stars and we want to honor you.” Members of the Fairfield High Junior ROTC program presented the colors; Jazmine Ahmady and See Honors, Page A8
