County releases draft district boundary maps Todd R. Hansen
thansen@dailyrepublic.net
FAIRFIELD — Solano County on Thursday released three draft census redistricting maps and plans for public review. “Each of the three proposed boundary maps show the suggested changes that would be made to supervisorial districts based on data from the 2020 Census and input from the community,” a statement released by the county said. If the county were to be divided evenly by population, with a 2020 Census total of 447,857, each district would have about 89,571 residents. However, there are other factors that go into the mapping, including geography and a required effort not to divide what is termed “communities of interest.”
Plan A Plan A would add 1,449 residents to the 1st District, with a proposed population of 91,020; add
970 residents to the 2nd District with a proposed population of 90.541; take 775 residents from the 3rd District for a proposed population of 88,796; add 1,207 residents to the 4th District for a proposed population of 90,778; and take 2,849 from the 5th District for a proposed population of 86,722. The voting age populations for each district would be 60,7074 in the 1st District; 63,262 in the 2nd District; 56,381 in the 3rd District; 66,862 in the 4th District; and 59,576 in the 5th District 5. “This plan reflects minimal changes to existing supervisorial district boundaries with a focus on minor adjustments between Districts 4 and 5 to close the gap in the overall population . . . and bring their populations closer to ideal population size of 89,571. This is primarily accomplished by shifting a small area of southeast Vacaville from District 5 to District 4,” according to information provided by the county. See Maps, Page A8

FAIRFIELD — It’s Spooky Season once again. Decorations are up, costumes may have been chosen and get ready to eat more candy than you should because Halloween is upon us. While the Covid-19 pandemic may still put a bit of a damper on the holiday once again this year, hopefully, many people, especially those with children, will be able to celebrate. SmartAsset crunched the numbers to identify and rank the
best cities in America for Halloween (though unfortunately, SmartAsset couldn’t confirm how many houses hand out full-size candy bars vs. how many handout raisins). To find the best cities to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve, SmartAsset compared 210 cities across metrics that include the percentage of children in the population, housing affordability, internet access, crime rates, Covid-19 infection rates, weather, number of costume shops and number of candy stores. California snags four of the spookiest spots. The Golden State

Secondhand smoke can infuse those chemicals into the bloodstream that can cause birth defects.” Burris added that in Fairfield,
