Bike Hall a perfect fit downtown By Aaron Geerts Enterprise staff writer Davis’ history can’t be told without mentioning bicycling and, as it turns out, bicycling’s history in the U.S. can’t be told without mentioning Davis. Not only is it the home of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame, but this cycle-centric community helped pave the way for bike lane implementation across the country. The USBHOF is a nonprofit that began in 1986 in
Somerville, N.J. In 2008, however, they sought a new home. After a nationwide competition, the organization wisely chose the city with a PennyFarthing as its logo for its new home. “On a tryout basis before officially becoming the home of the USBHOF, we hosted the induction ceremony at Freeborn Hall on campus in 2008, and again in 2009. By 2010 we were the home of the Hall of Fame and Bike Museum,” said
USBHOF volunteer, former city public-relations manager and avid cyclist Bob Bowen. “With a lot of support from the city council, redevelopment funds and donations, the teen center got renovated at 303 Third St. at Central Park and we opened in April of that year.” With Davis’ and U.S. cycling’s history coinciding like two wheels on a bicycle, locals owe themselves a visit to this museum that features a wide
variety of antique bicycles, equipment, vintage poster art, awards, photos and much more. “It’s called the Pierce-Miller collection of bicycles. We have bikes and examples of bikes going back to their invention which was around 1817. We also have penny-Farthings, which we’ll have about half-adozen high-wheel bike riders — including myself — riding

Sponsorship opportunities are available.
More than a year after former Yolo County Administrator Patrick Blacklock left the position, the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday is expected to approve the selection of Gerardo Pinedo as his replacement. Pinedo serves as chief of staff for Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and will assume the county administrator position on June 20. Chad Rinde has been serving as interim county administrator since October, when he took over for Daniel Kim, who had held the interim position for seven months after Blacklock left to take the position of president and CEO of Rural County Representatives of California.
