Pipers plead not guilty Thomas Frey Staff writer Jordan and Lindsay Piper, the father and stepmother of Roman Lopez, entered not guilty pleas Monday in El Dorado County Superior Court for charges in connection with their 11-year-old son’s death. Roman, who had weeks before moved from Michigan to Placerville with his parents and seven other children, was found dead Jan. 12, 2020, reportedly in a storage bin in the basement of the home the family was renting at 2892 Coloma St. After more than a year of investigation into the young boy’s cause of death authorities arrested Jordan and Lindsay Feb. 3. The Pipers were
taken into custody at Arnold Meadowmont Lodge, where they had checked in that morning, KOVR reported. Jordan and Lindsay are both being charged with child abuse and torture while Lindsay faces an additional charge of poisoning and Jordan an additional charge of failing to provide for a child. Appearing before the court virtually via Zoom, Lindsay and Jordan were seated at a table together but did not look at each other during Monday’s arraignment. El Dorado County deputy district attorney Jay Linden was asked after the arraignment why the Pipers weren’t charged with n
During a leisurely stroll, one might enjoy a blooming crepe myrtle, a crimson sunset or, better yet, the thunder of a diesel truck roaring by. Residents near the proposed Capital SouthEast Connector project in El Dorado Hills say they expect just that, with road noise from the White Rock Road corridor raising concerns. Impacts from the project would potentially cause a decibel level higher than what some think is already untenable. For the past 14 years, residents of Four Seasons, Stonebriar, Sierra Monte, Shadow Hills and Springfield Meadows have been alarmed by decisions of the Capital SouthEast Connector JPA, of which El Dorado County is a member, to complete road segments they worry will increase the noise level, causing environmental damage as well as a decrease in home values. At January’s El Dorado Hills Area Planning Advisory Committee meeting, Vice Chair John Raslear pointed out several factors that support the need for an updated noise report for the connector tying Elk Grove to El Dorado Hills, including the influx of traffic from several major developments such as Folsom Ranch, Sierra Monte and Heritage. “All of these things could not have been appreciated or taken in consideration when the original noise study was done,” he asserted. Raslear also mentioned the new Empire Ranch interchange from White Rock Road to Highway 50 and the banning of truck traffic on East

EID: Water supply sufficient for Creekside Village Dawn Hodson Staff writer More than 900 new homes are proposed for El Dorado Hills and El Dorado Irrigation District officials say there’s enough water to go around. EID’s Board of Directors on Monday unanimously approved a water supply assessment for the Creekside Village Specific Plan. Preparation of an assessment by the district is required for proposed developments consisting of more than 500 residential units. EID’s approval was needed before the water supply assessment could be incorporated into the environmental impact report being prepared by the county. project will have Latrobe Road to the east, the county line to the west, the El Dorado Hills Business Park to the north and undeveloped land to the south. The development will include 926 residential dwelling units, with 676 designated as low density and 250 designated as medium density. In addition 14.3 acres will be devoted to parks, 46.3 acres to open space and 10.4 acres for traffic circulation. Law requires a water supply assessment of whether projected water supplies will be enough to meet existing and planned water demands over a 20-year horizon. The assessment includes an estimate of project water demands through buildout, identifies water supply availability to meet that demand and assesses whether expected water sources will be sufficient to meet the projected water demand of the n
