The Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at Lamar University is accepting applications for a graduate assistantship with the University Bands program. Competitive funding is available for qualified students. The selected student will receive a generous monthly stipend (9 months) and all in-state tuition/fees covered for two years of graduate studies in Music Education or Music Performance. Graduate assistants work closely with band faculty to maintain and facilitate all aspects of the Lamar University Band Program, providing significant, real-world experience throughout their two-year tenure. In addition to assisting with the administration of LU’s three concert bands, the summer band camps, and several other projects and events throughout the year, graduate assistants are heavily involved with the "Showcase of Southeast Texas" Marching Band and will acquire experience managing and working with athletic bands at the Division I level.
HOW TO APPLY

This letter should provide information regarding one’s background, experiences, qualifications, and the degree program one would like to pursue at Lamar University. A resume as a PDF or MS Word file attachment and ensure that it includes contact information (phone and email) for at least two professional references. Unofficial transcriptions as an attachment (undergraduate college/university work only.) Candidates may also be asked to visit campus for an interview and/or instrumental audition. To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by February 17; however, the position will remain open until filled or May 1. (All candidates will receive email notification once final decisions have been made or by May 1 at the latest.) Receipt of this assistantship is also contingent upon admission to Lamar University and acceptance by the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music.

Lamar University is situated in Beaumont, Texas, approximately ninety miles from Houston and affords numerous opportunities for a wide range of artistic and educational experiences. The Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at Lamar University offers four undergraduate degrees and two graduate degrees. It is one of the most visible and active departments on campus.
