THE ROLE STRESS PLAYS IN YOUR MENTAL HEALTH Stress is a common response to situational pressures or demands, especially if they are perceived as threatening or dangerous. A small amount of stress is normal. Small doses of stress can help people meet deadlines, be prepared for presentations, and be productive. However, long-term stress can become harmful to your health. When stress becomes overwhelming and extended for long periods of time, the risks for mental health and medical problems increase. Long-term stress can increase the risk of mental health problems

such as anxiety and depression, substance abuse, sleep problems, and pain. It can also increase the risk of medical problems such as headaches, gastrointestinal problems, weakened immune systems, difficulty conceiving, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. Our skilled team of behavioral health counselors, nursing and therapy staff offer a range of treatment therapy including inpatient mental health services for adults, partial hospitalization programs for adults and adolescents, as well as both individual and family counseling Continued on next page

Inpatient Behavioral Health Program This program provides a safe, supportive environment with 24hour monitoring for adult patients struggling with depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or other mental illnesses. The multi-disciplinary team includes psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, and therapists who specialize in psychiatric care. Geriatric Psychiatry Program This program typically serves adults 55 and over who are a threat to themselves or others and can no longer care for themselves safely. Focusing is on medical needs of this population, medication management and providing survival skills to transition to the next level of care. Partial Hospitalization Program This program is designed to allow intervention to prevent inpatient psychiatric hospitalization or provide a transition for patients stepping down from inpatient mental health care. Patients are assigned to a case manager to assist them through the treatment program, help patients identify methods to meet their treatment team goals, and assist with follow up care.
