PUBLISHING WORKS IN THE UNIVERSITY’S INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORY KnowledgeExchange@Southern, Southern’s institutional repository, is an online platform used to collect, preserve, and disseminate the university’s research and scholarly output. Open-access institutional repositories like KnowledgeExchange@Southern provide researchers with opportunities to self-archive and promote their research to increase awareness and availability. The repisotory provides students and faculty with a tool for efficiently managing and presenting their own research, which is Google-searchable once submitted to the repository. All items are also included in the Digital Commons database. Current Statistics KnowledgeExchange@Southern currently houses 1,700 papers that have been downloaded over 405,000 times by 15,000 institutions from 214 countries. Seven out of the 10 most popular works in the repository are student publications, with the most popular work having been downloaded 50,000 times by 3,250 institutions from 156 countries around the world. Real-time count and worldwide location of download activity is available for each item in the repository. A detailed download activity report can be provided for each department upon request. Submitting Your Research Most research can be submitted

electronically. To submit your works, visit knowledge.e.southern.edu and select the “Submit Research” link on the righ-hand side of the page. Some publications do not allow authors to submit directly. In these cases, you will be provided with a mail form to contact the appropriate administrator for further instruction. Student submissions require a signed form by the supervising professor prior to publication in the repository. A copy of this form can be found at knowledge.e.southern.edu/submission_ form.pdf. Types of Content A wide variety of materials can be included in the repository including research projects, book reviews, images, videos, posters, conference presentation slides, project documentation, data sets, events, and theses.
