Congratulations, you’ve made it to McGill!

Get ready to challenge yourself here, be inspired here, and most importantly, be yourself here.

Apply for financial aid

McGill offers need-based bursaries to newly accepted, first-degree students from low to modest-income families. The application deadline is 30 days from the date of formal acceptance to the University or June 30 (whichever comes first).

International and U.S. students, as well as Canadian (citizen or permanent resident) students living outside of Canada, must submit a CSS Profile.

Accept your offer of admission

Let us know you’re coming before the deadline given in your letter of acceptance through your McGill Applicant Portal. You’ll have to make a deposit by credit card. If you don’t respond by the deadline, your place may be given to another applicant – so be sure to confirm on time!

Apply for your CAQ & Study Permit

Once you have accepted your offer of admission and paid your confirmation deposit, it’s important to begin the process of applying for your CAQ, and later, your Study Permit without delay. You must obtain all required immigration documents to begin your studies at McGill, so be sure to start the process as soon as possible.

Note: Citizens and permanent residents of Canada do not need to apply for a CAQ or Study Permit.

Set up your McGill email address

You’re officially a McGillian now! After accepting your offer, a McGill email is created for you (ie. first.last@mail.mcgill. ca). Check this new inbox regularly. You’ll receive important information from your Faculty and the University.

Find a place to live

Whether you’re looking for a quiet apartment or a vibrant dorm, we’ve got you covered. Our Residences community offers a respectful, supportive environment that can help you transition to living away from home. Many first-year students choose to live in residence – it’s a great way to make friends and get comfortable in a new city. If you prefer to live on your own or with roommates, McGill’s Off-Campus Housing Office can share guidance on finding an apartment in Montreal.
