c y b e r-h a te B y Jennifer C o h e n ______________ Tu rn on your computer today, and you have instant access to the information super-highway which links you to a global web of ideas and resources. But this medium has attracted numerous extremist groups who use the Internet to spread their messages of intoler ance. Proposed solutions to this problem range from laissez-faire policies to outright censorship. In e vita b ly , the N et Hate Page, maintained by M ontreal’ s H illel Society, approaches the problem by providing links to various neoNazi and white supremacist web sites. The page reads like a cata logue, offering brief descriptions of different hate groups. However, the creators of the page, former M cG ill students Dave Abitbol and Adam Sennet, use biting sarcastic commentary to denigrate the posi tion of racist extremists. Claiming over 30,000 visitors per month, the Net Hate Page also provides a com pila tion of anti-racist web sites. Upon entering the web page, the view er is astonished by the n u m ber o f possible hate sites which are neatly categorized as “ Revisionist,” for all-Holocaust denial in fo rm a tio n , or sim p ly “Racist” for general hatred direct ed at all “non-Aryans.” Th e descriptions are concise and informative. The viewer may be advised to “select this page for inane ram blings from a lunatic f r in g e .” A b itb o l and Sennet's familiarity with copious amounts of hate propaganda is obvious. P ersonal hom e pages m ay be described as “just another guy with his own crappy hate page — always under construction.” Th e descriptions of the sites often include choice quotes from the actual hate sites, which serve to parody the hate cause even more effectively than any descrip tion. The American Tim es Today is a site where viewers can “help keep Christ in Christmas — buy from C h ris tia n -o w n e d stores.” Th e A ryan Female Homestead's

B y Pa u l C o n n e r For the first time in a quarter of a century, M c G i l l ’ s M olso n Stadium w ill play host to profes sional football. T o prepare for the November 2 game, the Canadian Football league w ill invest over $50,000 in needed repairs to the stadium. A s a result o f a scheduling c o n flic t, the C F L ’ s M o n tre a l Alouettes were forced to look for other sites for its p la yo ff game against Saskatchewan. The search for an alternate venue began three weeks ago when it became appar ent that the team would finish sec ond in the division and thus host a semi-final game. The team exam ined their options and learned that if they wanted to play the game in M o n tre a l, M c G i l l ’ s M o ls o n Stadium was the only possibility. In a press co n fe re n ce last

Wednesday, team President Larry Sm ith announced that M o lso n Stadium would, in fact, host the playoff game.

P ro b lem atic site Molson Stadium, which was the home for the AlouĂ©ttes in the 50s and 60s, w ill require exten sive work before the game is to be held. In total, the Alouettes w ill inject $55,000 into the 77-year old venue’ s renovation to meet C F L ’ s specified standards. Since 1976, when the 20,000 seat build ing was used as the field hockey venue for the Olym pic Games, the stadium has undergone a slow deterioration. The south side stands, which serve as the prim ary seating for M c G ill students at various inter university events, have been well maintained and w ill require only minor improvements.

Th e real structural problems are found on the larger north side. T h e eastern th ird is p re se n tly unusable, w ith concrete blocks broken away and plant life grow ing in certain spots. Sm ith and M c G ill Director of Athletics Bob Dubeau revealed that these sec tions would be fixed, albeit tem porarily, for the game. O n ly the most eastern part o f the stands w ill not be used and w ill instead be covered with a tarp. “Clearly, a lot of work has to be done to the stadium to make it acceptable to fans,” said Dubeau. “ [B ut] the Alouettes and M c G ill feel a sufficient amount of work can be done in the next two and a half weeks to get the stadium pre pared to host 18,000 - 19,000 peo ple reasonably comfortably.” Tem porary grandstands seat-
