DUI - CSRA DUI Arrest Follows ‘Thirsty Thursday’ at Baseball Game A Georgia driver who traveled at night through North Augusta without headlights was charged last week with impaired driving.

Tucker Phillips, 22, was wearing two wristbands when North Augusta Public Safety officers stopped him on Center Street just after 11 p.m. Phillips said the pink band came from SRP Park; the other was from Southbound BBQ,

according to reports.

Officers smelled alcohol and Phillips admitted to drinking a couple of beers during the Thirsty Thursday baseball game. His eyes were watery and slightly bloodshot, cops said.

When they asked why he was driving with no lights, Phillips reportedly said the SUV wasn’t his and he didn’t know how to turn them on. Officers

“observed Phillips turning the correct switch on and off,” however, the report said.

Phillips agreed to a field sobriety test and showed more than eight signs of possible drunkenness, officers said. He later blew 0.8 percent on the breathalyzer.

2 Aiken Dads Found Dead in Their Room at Days Inn

Two Aiken fathers were found dead inside a room Saturday night at the Days Inn, authorities said.

Barry J. Redding, 39, and Stephan Poole, 40, were found deceased inside a hotel room around 11:10 p.m. Saturday when deputies responded to a call about gunshots on Columbia Highway North, Coroner Darryl Ables said. The hotel is right off the interstate at Exit 22.

Robbery is a possible motive, sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said.

“When deputies arrived, they were directed to room 229, finding a 40 year old and 39 year old black males, injured with apparent gunshot wounds and unresponsive,”

Capt. Eric Abdullah said. “Both victims were pronounced deceased after Aiken County EMS arrived on scene.”

A post from the weekend described a scene in a local business early Sunday: “I had a customer (who comes in everyday happy as can be just to get her morning peach) come into the stand this morning almost in tears so I asked, ‘Are you having a good day?’ And she said not so much and broke out in tears. I asked why and she said she works there and the guys who got killed had been staying there for a while.’”

Capt. Abdullah did not release a

motive or suspects. He urged anyone with information that would lead to the identity and whereabouts of any suspects to call them at 803648-6811.

“The suspect(s) should be considered as armed and dangerous,” he said. “ According to the funeral home, a services have been scheduled for Redding: Memorial service, on July 16, 2022 at 4:00 p.m., at Walk of Faith Tabernacle of Worship, 757 SC HWY 121, Johnston, SC. No services have been announced for Poole.

North Augusta Man Kills Father & Flees to Georgia

A North Augusta man fled to Georgia after killing his father at their family residence, authorities said.

Jason Glenn Miller, 42, was captured in Colquitt County and was being held on murder and weapons charges in the death of 65-year-old Bobby Miller.

Around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to the family home on Dogwood Drive for a well-being check on the homeowner.

“After no response from anyone at the home, they found the back door to the home unlocked,” sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said. “While checking the house, deputies found an unresponsive white male lying on the floor of the main bedroom closet.”

The victim appeared to have a

gunshot wound to his head, Capt.

Abdullah said. The Coroner’s Office was called to the scene.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office was also contacted by the Colquitt County Sheriff in Georgia with information on this investigation and the possible suspect involved. Investigators obtained arrest warrants for Miller for murder and weapon possession.

The suspect is currently being held in Colquitt County Jail pending an extradition hearing.

Miller has made The Jail Report twice this year, once for a breach of peace in April and last week for traffic charges that include striking fixtures on or adjacent to highway, reckless driving and uninsured motor vehicle.

In the beach of peace case, Miller was accused of firing his gun in the backyard of his father’s home while drunk. The man’s neighbor complained to cops that Jason Miller was firing a gun close to his home.

Deputies found Miller with a beer in his hand. He was also unsteady on his feet, a sheriff’s report says.

“I asked Miller if he was discharging a firearm and he stated that he discharged his pistol in the air one time,” the deputy reported.

The victim was remembered as a friendly church-going man who lost his wife in the last year and had worked at Bi-Lo. “The last person in the world you would think that would take your life would be your own child,” one reader said. “How heartbreaking.”

Aiken Grandmother Beats Child over a Cellphone Dorean Price, 64, of Aiken, Unlawful neglect of child or helpless person

Police on Sunday arrested an Aiken woman accused of assaulting her granddaughter during an argument over a cellphone.

Dorean Price, 64, was charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

Aiken Public Safety officers responded shortly before 10 p.m.

July 3 to a home on Hickory Ridge Road. The caller said a girl had just been beaten and chased.

Officers found the girl “barefooted and in distress,” the report said.

They photographed bloody but superficial head injuries, a swollen, bloody lip and a swollen eye. Police said the girl was “fearful, crying

and panicked.” The victim claimed she had just been assaulted by her grandmother who lived nearby.

According to reports, Price allegedly grabbed the juvenile by her hair bun and hit her 10 to 12 times.

The girl repeatedly told officers she did not want to return to Price’s home.

The suspect arrived on scene shortly thereafter and admitted that a disagreement over family issues turned physical when the cellphone was mentioned. According to reports, Price told officers she grabbed the victim by her hair but denied beating her. The argu-

ment happened in a bedroom while the girl was on the phone with her mother, Price said.

When questioned about her granddaughter’s injuries, the suspect said she may have hit her head on “surfaces within the room,” according to the report.

Officers reported the incident to the Department of Social Services.

EMS transported the girl to Aiken Regional Medical Centers, and she was placed in the custody of other family members, the report said.

The girl’s age is not listed on the report.

Aiken Man Pistol-Whips Victim After Argument Deputies last week arrested an Aiken man who allegedly pistol-whipped his victim after a verbal argument turned heated.

William Hayes, 38, was charged on June 29 with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Deputies reported no serious injuries, but the victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, according to reports. An EMS crew was treating the victim when deputies arrived at Foreman-Floyd Circle around 8 p.m. The victim claimed Hayes struck him several times with a black handgun.

The suspect reportedly told the victim he could no longer stay at his brother’s house, but the victim re-

fused to leave so Hayes commenced to swinging.

The victim and Hayes live near each other, according to reports. Deputies photographed bruises on the victim’s face, and cuts on his forehead and eyebrow.

Hayes, who lives on the same property, was arrested without incident. They did not find a handgun, however.

Deputies booked Hayes into the Aiken County Detention Center and then drove him to a nearby hospital, where nurses treated lacerations on the victim’s left arm. Hayes claimed the victim cut him at least twice with a folding razor before he assaulted him with a gun, the report said.

Hephzibah Man Ransacks Aiken County Home While Homeowner is Away A Hephzibah man allegedly ransacked an Aiken County home while the owner was away.

Sheriff’s deputies on Sunday charged Aubrey Chavous Jr., 49, with meth possession, burglary and willful, malicious injury to property.

A Windsor resident called officers shortly before 10 p.m.

July 3 to report a suspicious pickup truck parked at his property on Bussey Road.

Chavous identified himself when the complainant approached and dispatchers confirmed two active warrants for the suspect’s arrest.

Chavous has been wanted since June 25 for heavily damaging another home on Bussey Road while the owner was on vacation. Deputies said the additional charges of burglary and malicious injury to a relative’s property occurred between June 16 and 25. According to reports, Chavous occasionally stays in a camper behind the homeowner’s house and waited until she left to burglarize the residence. The victim returned on June 25 and immediately called deputies.

Surveillance video captured Chavous in her kitchen on June 21. The footage showed him punching holes in the wall, hurling pots, ransacking the living room and damaging a bookshelf. According to deputies, Chavous used an unspecified object to gain entry into the victim’s back door.

The woman said Chavous has never lived in the home nor is he allowed to come in and out freely.

Woman Brings Cocaine, Heroin & Baby to Prison A Florida woman who was visiting a prison inmate became an inmate herself when she was found trying to smuggle two pounds of cocaine and heroin into the facility.

Melissa Webster, 44, of Tallahassee, was arrested by DeSoto County deputies June 26.

Webster was visiting the DeSoto Correctional Institution that Sunday and allegedly brought

her infant grandchild along with the drugs. She was arrested when officers found 100 grams of heroin and cocaine on her as she checked in.

A K9 then sniffed her vehicle in the parking lot and found 690 grams of heroin and cocaine inside.

The child was taken into custody by the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Man Posed as Disney Worker to Expose ‘Flaws’ A man who stole a Star Wars droid from Disney theme parks and posed as a cast member is fighting his charges.

David Proudfoot, 44, of Kissimmee, was charged with grand theft and obstruction. Proudfoot allegedly stole an R2-D2 droid worth $10,000 and posed as a cast member at Walt Disney World.

Proudfoot has an application in to work for security and said he committed the crimes to prove there were flaws in Disney’s system and that he could help.

Disney security called deputies after seeing Proudfoot at one of their hotels acting suspiciously. Proudfoot told deputies he worked at the resort and provided a false name and a name for his supervisor. Turns out the names were for employees at the California location, not Orlando. When deputies took Proudfoot to his employee locker to remove his items, he appeared confused, and they realized he did not work at the resort.

RICHMOND COUNTY Every Parent’s Nightmare: Man Gropes Girl in Bookstore A 17-year-old Augusta teen remained in jail Thursday on charges that he sexually groped the buttocks of a young girl inside the Barnes & Nobles.

Nicholes Blume, of Longsdale Drive, was arrested last Monday for one count of non-aggravated child molestation. He also has a hold for investigations.

The groping of the 9-year-old girl became news last Monday when the sheriff’s office released a Wanted Poster showing the

suspect outside the Augusta Mall bookstore the day before. A sheriff’s report says the store manager called the cops that Sunday afternoon when a man complained that his granddaughter was groped.

Here is what the girl told cops: “A man came up to her and asked her to pick a book up from the lower shelf. So when she went to pick the book up, the man touched her on the butt.”

The girl ran to her grandfather to tell him

what happened. The manager confronted the suspect and asked for his ID. But the teen got irate and said he “didn’t have time for this” and had to be at work in three minutes.

Security video showed the teen try to touch the girl’s butt as she walked past him, but he missed. So he got her attention and touched her when she reached for the book he requested.

Waffle House Patron Threatens to Kill Augusta Staff after Midnight

An irate Waffle House customer threatened to kill workers and rob the joint because of bad service.

Maurice Dontae Fuller, 25, was arrested June 28 for terroristic threats and acts.

Richmond County deputies were called to the Waffle House along the 3100 block of Peach Orchard Road at

12:41 a.m. June 28.

Fuller told deputies he was at the restaurant eating when an employee became disrespectful. He said he simply wanted food.

An employee told deputies that Fuller arrived, banging on the door. When he came inside he threatened to kill employees and rob the establishment.

Employees said that they had had problems with Fuller in the past and that Fuller had also caused problems at the gas station next door.

Deputies informed Fuller he was going to jail. Fuller admitted he had made the threats but said did not have plans to carry them out.

An Augusta man faces charges after shooting at a man and woman outside his home.

Maurice Wayne Wright Jr., 25, was arrested June 29 on two counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property in the first degree and possession of a firearm or knife during a crime.

Richmond County deputies were called to a home along the 3200 block of Rhonda Drive June 28 for shots fired.

Wright appeared heavily intoxicated and told deputies that he got into an argument with a man who arrived at his home and demanded to know where a woman was. Wright denied firing or even having a weapon, but said the man who showed up at his home presented a gun.

Deputies then spoke with the woman, who said she was visiting her mother at the home but, because she felt unsafe, she asked a male friend to pick her up.

When he arrived, Wright answered the

door and the two got into an argument.

The woman said Wright went back inside as she prepared to leave. He re-emerged with a gun, which he fired once into the air and twice in the direction of the woman and her friend. They left the scene, unhurt, and contacted authorities.

A witness confirmed hearing the verbal altercation and seeing Wright carrying a firearm. Deputies located two 9mm shell casings outside the home and arrested Wright on scene.

Women Steal 90 Items after Card is Declined Two women were caught changing the price tag amounts on items they stole from Walmart.

Crystal Nicole Miles, 33, and Selena Diane Johnson, 37, were arrested June 27 for theft by shoplifting. Miles also was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

June 27 witnessed the theft.

A deputy watched as Johnson and Miles took various items and placed them in their shopping carts. Miles, the report said, took several bags from a shelf and filled them with clothing and personal care items.

They then selected a $1 bikini bottom that was on clearance.

When they checked out, they used a self-checkout lane and swiped the $1 clearance item until their

total reached $28.81.

Even then the women could not afford their discounted bounty and their card was declined. They fed $6.26 into the machine and left.

Deputies arrested them in the parking lot. Miles allegedly kicked a deputy three times as she was being placed in a cop car.

Deputies later counted 90 stolen items totaling $873.86.

An Augusta man was tased after refusing to comply with deputies investigating a domestic dispute.

Jeffrey Blocker, 31, was arrested June 29 for obstruction of a law enforcement officer and simple battery family violence.

Deputies were called to the couple’s home on the 5400 block of Copse Drive on June 28. Before they could learn what had taken place, however, Blocker became argumentative and told deputies they needed a warrant to be on his property.

Deputies detained Blocker when he became irate, but he went limp after being handcuffed and refused to walk. At that point a deputy stunned Blocker with a Taser. They then placed him in their vehicle where he continued to resist.

Blocker’s wife told deputies that Blocker had been drinking at dinner with friends and became upset after learning the friends were not going to come by the house afterwards.

Blocker began cursing at his wife, who tried to deescalate the situation at home.

She called deputies for help, she said, but after she hung up the phone, Blocker began choking her with both hands.

The wife managed to break away and hide in another room until deputies arrived on scene.

An Augusta man trapped his girlfriend in his home overnight following an argument.

Octavius Lamar Burns, 32, was arrested June 27 for kidnapping, simple battery, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm or knife during a crime.

Richmond County deputies responded to an apartment along the 2900 block of Richmond Hill Road April 19 after a woman texted 911 to say she was trapped by her boyfriend.

Upon arrival, deputies tried to make entry into the home when they heard screaming and crying. During their attempt, the girlfriend managed to get out of the home and said Burns had fled the apartment on foot.

Deputies could not immediately locate him.

The woman explained that she and Burns had been dating for about a month when they got into an argument at his apartment about fidelity.

During the argument, Burns struck her, causing a small wound. Each time she tried to leave, he threatened to shoot her, she said. When he let her go to the bathroom, she texted 911 for help.

When deputies arrived, Burns allegedly pointed a gun at her and forced her into a room where he punched her in the face before running out the back door.

Deputies located a weapon in the bedroom and drew up warrants for Burns, who was arrested more than two months later.

New Info: Grovetown House Guest Stabs 3-Year-Old Girl, Her Mom & Grandma A 3-year-old Grovetown girl and her grandmother suffered life-threatening injuries on the Fourth of July when a house guest of the child’s mother attacked the family, authorities said.

Suspect Phillip James Marshall – who spent 17 years in prison for armed robbery and kidnapping – was the mother’s guest at around 2:30 a.m. Monday when he began attacking and stabbing the child, her mother and the grandmother, police said.

“The victims stated Mr. Marshall appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance,” Grovetown Police Chief Jamey Kitchens said in a press release.

The girl was rushed to the hospital with stab wounds and blunt force trauma, and she suffered bleeding to the brain that

required multiple surgeries.

The grandmother, Darlene Freund, was moved to intensive care after surgery for her stab wounds.

The mother, identified as Elizabeth Nelson, was treated and released.

Marshall, 40, fled the home at 103 Fiske Street prior to officers arriving, but they found him around 6:45 a.m. near the intersection of Katherine Street and Old Wrightsboro Road. He was wearing only underwear and suffering from multiple lacerations that appeared to be self-inflicted.

“After a brief pursuit, Mr. Marshall was taken into custody without incident near Katherine Street and Dorn Street,” Chief Kitchens said.

After being taken to Doctors Hospital, Marshall was cleared to be taken to jail on three counts of aggravated assault.

He was reportedly suicidal and didn’t want to return to prison, giving jailers such a hard time that it took two days to get a booking photo. A new mugshot shows him with knife wounds to his neck from when he tried to kill himself.

Marshall is very familiar to law enforcement. He is a felon who spent most of his adult life in prison for kidnapping and armed robberies in Columbia County.

After his release, he got involved with drugs and was charged in 2019 with drug trafficking and possession of Schedule I drugs in Columbia County.

But he was freed on bond, and his felony drug charges have lingered in the courts without resolution since then.

He had a current address of Pinetree Street in Grovetown and had been invited over to the victims’ home by the Nelson.

Dealer Jailed After Being Shot by Three Teens; Cops Find $37K in Cash & a Stash of Vape Pens

A local drug dealer was arrested Wednesday after being grazed by gunfire while leaving a deal in a Martinez neighborhood, authorities said.

Joshua Landis, 21, of Evans, was charged with Possesion with Intent to Distribute Schedule 1 Drugs. He was booked into the jail and released quickly after making a $15,100 bond.

After being shot, Landis was found by officers with $37,000 cash and a stash of illegal vape pens in his vehicle, sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris said.

Jaden Calloway, 17, of Chicago, and two juveniles have been charged with shooting Landis,

and other suspects are possible.

Calloway is charged with aggravated assault and weapon possession, and he is being held without bond at the Columbia County Detention Center with no bond. The juveniles are being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center.

Officers found him down the street after the 911 call. He was transported by Gold Cross EMS to Doctors Hospital, and he was arrested after his release.

Landis was charged in 2018 with dealing marijuana, but the charge was dismissed on a conditional discharge that involved probation. He has since been arrested multiple times for other offenses, including probation violation, fleeing police, minor in possession and failing to signal while turning.

Daran Epps, 49, Criminal trespass

A man was arrested in Appling for trying to stay at his ex-wife’s house without permission.

Daran Lee Epps, 49, was charged with criminal trespass June 30 by Columbia County deputies.

Deputies were called to a home along Lakeside Drive in Appling where the homeowner said Epps was refusing to leave. The man told deputies he let Epps stay for a few days, but it was time for him to go.

Epps told deputies he wanted to stay with his ex-wife. Deputies made contact with her but she refused to take Epps in. Epps then suggested staying with his brother, who also told deputies he did not want Epps at his home.

Out of options, Epps left the Lakeside property on foot, but deputies watched as he immediately headed to his ex-wife’s home nearby. When deputies confronted him, he left a second time but then entered the home through the rear.

Deputies decided to arrest Epps.

Evans Man Won’t Say Why He Shot Gun in Bedroom An Evans man who shot a round through his bedroom wall is facing charges.

Columbia County deputies arrested James Richard Barnes July 3 for reckless conduct, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime and purchase/possession/manufacture/distribution/sale/control of drugs.

Deputies were called to a home along the 4500 block of Ridgeview Court after a round was fired. Barnes admitted to shooting the bullet through the wall in his room.

He was initially compliant with deputies, but then stopped answering questions.

Details of why the shooting took place were not in reports, but deputies wrote that the case was turned over to a narcotics investigator.

An Augusta woman took several bites out of a man who suggested a threesome with a woman they’d just met at a club.

Jessica Rolonza Martin, 30, was arrested by Columbia County deputies July 1 on a charge of battery-family violence.

According to reports, deputies were patrolling Old Evans Road

when they saw Martin and a man lying on the ground by a vehicle parked at Discount Tire. Deputies noticed the man had multiple injuries.

The man said he and Martin were out clubbing when he met another woman and asked Martin if she’d agree to a threesome. Martin got upset, the man said, and they

argued, then Martin pulled his hair, struck him several times in the face and bit him in the ribs, chest, stomach and legs. He pulled some of her hair out, he said, in self defense.

Martin admitted they’d argued over the proposal but said she acted in self defense after the man pulled her hair out.

My wife and I had this long argument about the appropriate thing to wear when gardening. But she kept digging in her heels.

Ashley Pacheco, 28, Larceny

A Belks employee admitted to stealing a skirt while she was on the clock at the department store.

Ashley Joanne Pacheco, 28, was arrested by Columbia County deputies June 29 for larceny-theft by taking.

Deputies were called to the Belks along the 4200 block of Washington Road in Evans, where a manager explained that Pacheco was caught on surveillance cameras May 6 taking a skirt into a changing room and removing the tag. She later emerged from the changing room wearing the $54.50 skirt.

Pacheco admitted to the theft to both her employer and deputies. She was arrested and trespassed from the store.

Teen Steals Air Pistol at Academy Sports A 19-year-old man stole an air pistol but was caught by employees.

Ethan Ryan Kellogg, 19, was arrested by Columbia County deputies July 4 on charges of theft by shoplifting and a probation violation.

Employees at Academy Sports and Outdoors along Washington Road in Evans notified a deputy who was already on scene when they noticed Kellogg take a Glock air pistol and exit the store.

The deputy quickly detained Kellogg, who admitted he had left the store with the pistol before reentering.

Deputies located the pistol inside Kellogg’s vehicle and returned it to the store.

Russell Hughes is Wanted for Criminal damage to property

Russell Hughes is wanted again.

Richmond County included him in their batch of this week’s Wanted suspects. He is sought for criminal damage to property.

If he looks familiar, it’s because Hughes was featured on an episode of COPS that was filmed in Augusta in 2020.

Deputy McQuaig of Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Team stopped a vehicle with a tail light that was out.

Deputy McQuaig asked to search the car and the driver refused.

A backup deputy arrived and began to discuss the man’s background.

Hughes stated that he was a former gang member and had a history of selling meth and other narcotics. During this conversation, the driver admitted that he had a $20 bag of weed in the car.

The deputies then detained the suspect and while searching his vehicle found a loaded gun and

two magazines.

The suspect started to cry and said the only reason why he had a gun was to fight off people from the coronavirus to save his children.

Hughes, 40, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was later sentenced to nine months in prison.

He has been in and out of prison since 2012 for drugs, weapons and terroristic threats, according to prison records.
