NEW FAMILY service CENTER!

When the Laurel Bay CDC closed, we wanted to transform the building into a Family Service Center (FSC) to make using some of our programs more convenient for more families. After much renovation to repurpose and update the building, the FSC was opened for use this past April. The FSC is now the home of the Exceptional Family Member Program, New Parent Support Program, Community Counseling Program, School Liaison Program, Loan Locker, a Marine Corps Family Team Building classroom, and MCCS Human Resources.

LIBRARY the reimagined life story of Jack the Ripper with an Irish journalist who covered the case. Lash-Up by Larry Bond In a bid to dominate Asia and the western Pacific, China provokes a military crisis with the United States and then starts shooting down GPS satellites. America has only a short amount of time to devise some way of protecting its remaining satellites or China will gain an enormous advantage in the coming conflict. The only way the satellites can be protected is from orbit, so an armed spacecraft must be quickly designed, built and launched to fight on this new battlefield. Rock with Wings by Anne Hillerman Husband and wife Jim Chee and Bernie Manuelito are Navajo Tribal cops who receive two different cases in two different locations. Sgt. Chee takes a case in Monument Valley with a series of cryptic clues that lead to a missing women and a newly dug grave. Officer Manuelito has her hands full in Shiprock where she’s dealing with a drug bust gone wrong, fires in the middle of nowhere and an ambitious solar energy development. Chee and Manuelito’s cases seem difficult, but they are now facing their biggest challenge yet – commitment and courage.

Summer Reading Program 2015 Read to the Rhythm This year’s Summer Reading Program’s theme is Read to the Rhythm. With music, movement and books being a natural fit, we believe that the musical experience will improve language learning and the process of acquiring early literacy.

Seveneves by Neal Stephenson

Our Summer Reading Program will run from 8 June through 8 August. Early registration has already started at both the MCRD Parris Island and MCAS Beaufort branch libraries. When you register, you’ll receive a bag with your reading log, pencil and book mark. Those who register early through 7 June will also receive a prize!

When Earth becomes a ticking time bomb, nations around the globe band together to ensure the survival of humanity by venturing out into outer space. Five thousand years later, the 3 billion children of the handful of survivors journey to an unknown and alien world utterly transformed: Earth.

The libraries will kick off the program this month at the MCAS Beaufort Library. The kick-off will include story time, a puppet show, games, crafts and refreshment. All age groups are invited to attend! We will have other events throughout the summer.

The Forgotten Room by Lincoln Child

The MCAS Beaufort Library will also begin renovations this summer and we can’t wait to share the improvements with you!

Jeremy Logan is an "enigmalogist"—an investigator who specializes in analyzing phenomena that have no obvious explanation. Logan finds himself in a mansion on the Newport, RI coastline where he has been retained by Lux, one of the oldest and most respected think tanks in America. While investigating a shocking murder-suicide by a Lux doctor, Logan uncovers a secret room, concealed and apparently untouched for decades. The room is a time capsule, filled with eerie and obscure scientific equipment that points to a top secret project.

The Ice Twins by S.K. Tremayne

More details about Summer Reading Program's events to come. We will be keeping you posted on our Facebook page and website. We look forward to a summer of reading, rhythm and a rockin’ good time!

After a storm leaves Sarah and her surviving daughter stranded on the island, they are forced to confront what really happened to Lydia…or to Kirstie.

Author John Rothstein’s beloved character, Jimmy Gold, has sold out for a career in advertising. Outraged fan Morris Bellamy kills John and empties his safe of cash and a Jimmy Gold novel. Morris hides the cash and book before being hauled off to prison for a different crime. Decades later, Pete Saubers stumbles upon Morris’s hidden treasure and must be protected from Morris when he is released from prison after 35 years.
