The Multicultural Communities Council of South Australia (MCCSA) report, Connection is Prevention: A Community-Led Model for Men’s Mental Health, documents a two-year Discovery Project delivered in partnership with the Fay Fuller Foundation and four CALD community organisations:
• Association of the Burundian Community of SA
• Kabudu Men’s Group of SA (representing Sierra Leonean and West African men)
• Australians for Syria SA, and
• Latin American Society of SA.
The project deep dived into what mental health means to men from these communities and supported co-design of culturally relevant solutions. It was built on a shared belief that communities possess the wisdom, strength, and insight to lead.
The findings are clear: prevention is most effective when communities are trusted, resourced and supported to lead.
