Australia Day celebrations coincide with the Indian Republic Day celebrations and the Indian community proudly celebrates both. While on one hand community leaders celebrate it by attending the Citizenship ceremonies, on the other by attending the Indian organizations both Australia Day celebrations as well as the Indian Republic Day celebrations.

This year marks the 75th year of Indian Republic Day. It also marks the 25years of bilateral relations with France. Hence, President Macron was invited to the Republic Day celebrations in India which became a highlight of the ceremony. The theme of the Indian Republic Day this year was innovation and Women Empowerment- Nari Shakti. Most of the military squads marching at the parade were lead by women or comprised of entirely by women cadets. Including the motorcyclists.

Every year each state in India puts together a tableaux for the parade that showcases the culture, arts, diversity, economy, innovation, of the state. These tableaux are later awarded for their artistry. This year’s winning tableaux was First: Odisha’s tableau, themed “Woman Empowerment in Viksit Bharat,” which showcased the state’s commitment to women’s progress while the peoples choice best tableaux was the Gujarat’s “Dhordo: A Global Icon of Gujarat’s Border Tourism” tableau. The multicultural diaspora in Brisbane definitely should pay heed to this artistry and maybe organize a multicultural tableaux parade on Australia Day for the migrants in the country to showcase their community and culture..

In Brisbane, the Indian diaspora organizations often celebrate both days together. Many community organizations in Brisbane receive a Australia Day grant to organize functions and citizenship ceremonies to respect, reflect and celebrate the day.

Delegates and distinguished guests from all levels of government were present.

Australia day in Brisbane is also celebrated with cultural programs and speeches delivered by distinguished

guests.
