Arch 320 & Arch 325

After exploring various paper folding, rolling, and taping techniques, I struggled with achieving perfection in spacing and cuts. Realizing this was too challenging, I shifted focus to imperfection, drawing inspiration from nature where no two things are the same. I decided on a rose design, where I could create unique petals and arrange them freely in a circle. I taped raindrop-shaped paper pieces in different sizes, overlapping them for the petals, and rolled paper for the stem and center. The final result looks seamless, with careful attention to hiding any glue or tape, and I added a leaf between the layers.

I designed this piece to be dynamic, with a diagonal partition that separates two sides, creating different feelings from different angles. The small rods support multiple blocks, giving the illusion of free flow and movement. I originally planned to use a final block and extra rod to outline the design, allowing for movement along the diagonal, but I couldn't find the last piece, so I focused on the central diagonal design.

Shape Generation

This shape generation project had minimal limitations, with the main constraint being our imagination. The rules were that compositions had to be abstract and the lines—straight or curved—had to follow specific guidelines, such as preexisting points and consistent weight. The challenge was in using these simple elements to create something complex and dynamic.

I took my original shape generation design and expanded it to twice its size. The goal was to create an abstract composition with a clear hierarchy through varying line weights. I couldn’t add or remove any lines from the original design, and all lines had to remain visible. The challenge was to emphasize the design’s structure by incorporating at least three different line weights, to give some lines a stronger presence and others a more subtle role.

Heirarchy

I took one of my shape generation designs and turned it into a 3D space, using the lines as a guide for the structure. These lines acted like a floor plan, shaping the entry, major space, and tower that was needed to create the project. The challenge was to work within these constraints, creating functional spaces while staying true to the original design. the orignal 2D design is shown below.

Re Presentation

I took a 2-point perspective of my 3D space and used Photoshop to enhance its realism. Adding elements like a background, water reflections, people, shadows, and landscape features like bushes to make the scene feel more lifelike and immersive. These additions helped give the space a stronger sense of reality.

Now we add it all together combining all aspects of the project: a floor plan, roof plan, axonometric view, section, and cut views. Using Photoshop to bring everything together into a cohesive architectural board. showcasesing the work I’ve been developing over weeks
