Enthusiastic English Teacher Earns Prestigious Title By Jake Davidson Beeline Staff Congratulations to Mrs. Mary Byrnes on earning the teacher of the year award! Mrs. Mary Byrnes uniquely exemplifies all of the qualities of a Catholic educator who supports the mission of the Church. Byrnes sees the beauty in the varied and diverse experiences our students bring to the community of MCC. As a literature teacher, through the written word, she explores with her students the gifts they possess and the ways in which these gifts help them live out the gospel message and enrich their relationships with God. “From last year until this year, I really focused on the success of the students and their abilities,” she said. “I feel like this has helped me to better understand the students. This in turn has given me the opportunity to be awarded Teacher of the Year.” Byrnes is committed to her faith and eloquently expresses the value she places in her personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Her students benefit from her exemplar of faith and learn that evangelizing truly comes from the heart. Byrnes shows genuine, effortless expression of her love for God and her ministry as a teacher. MCC Community Celebrates Catholic Schools Week By Holli Couch Assistant Editor Students filed into the gym as Senior Ben Laird led all of MCC in a prayer to start off Catholic School’s Week on the right foot. Between the school wide art project, the extra time to pray, and the letters of appreciation written in all Religion and English classes, Catholic School’s Week was a major success. As Catholic School’s Week progressed the activities became more and more of a hit with the students. “I really enjoyed writing the thank you letters to people who have shaped my faith. It’s so easy to forget to say a simple thank you sometimes,” said Senior Alex Genna. Another favorite activity amongst the students was the Pen Pal Program that was introduced in through the religion classes on Thursday. Many students are still trying to figure out what direction they want to go in when they leave high school; to help students
find their calling people who work different jobs all over the county donated their time to speak with students on Friday for MCC’s annual Career Day. “Some people I listened to during Career day were so interesting. I never thought about being an interior decorator but after today it’s something I actually might consider,” said senior Miranda Maliszewski.
