BROWNIES OUMP CAM PEN
TEAM 11 TO 4 The St. Louis Browns 1aseball team of the American League gave CamPen Marines an idea how baseball is played in the Big Leagu~s , when they played a double-header here Friday, March 22. The Browns defeated CamPen 11 t o 4 in the first half of the double bill but were humbled 3 to 1 by a spirited Camp Miramar team in the nightcap. H ighlight of the event came when LtGen Harry Schmidt, Deputy Commander, tossed the first ball across the plate, officially sta r ting the opening game. Close to 3,000 CamPenites shouted themselves hoarse during the afternoon. W ith such bigtimers as Joe "Ducky" Medwick, Len Schulte, Denny Galehouse, and Martin Babe, on the Br owns' team, the Marines here were well pleased with the afternoon's entertainment. Believe It Or Not Department The staff at the 12.Area Dispensary cut us in on a story this week that would make "Believe It Or Not Ripley" become interested. It seems t hat a cat, which we will call "Madam Queen", was noticed by the staff for about two weeks, always making an a ppearance with the sick call line at 0800 every morning. This practice by the animal rather amused the Corpsmen. Last Monday evening, however, "Madam Queen" came to the dispensary after 1600, proceeded to the operating room and apparently bedded down for the evening . PhM3/ c H . D. Rath, on duty at t he time, noti ced later t hat evening t wo kittens h ad m ade a n appearance, which he named " Eenie" and "Meenie.'' A short time la t er
he visited the room and noticed that two more had arrived, so he named them "Miney" and "Moe." Feeling sure every thing was pretty well secure by now, Rath didn't bother "Madam Queen" and her brood again until early Tuesday morning. He then noticed that a fifth kitten now occupied the nest, so he despairingly named the final member of the brood "No Moe"! "Madam Queen" and her brood are pretty popular around the dispensary now. As the dispensary is used in administering to male personnel only, one of the Corpsmen pointed out that it had no maternity ward, but since the birth of the quintuplets, they have designated the operating room as the "Caternity Ward."

"Radar", Pooch Mascot
Is 'Over-The-Hill" The publicity recently accorded to "Radar", pooch 路 mascot of the Sentries at the San Luis Rey Gate, has evidently gone to the pup's head. Since we published his picture and told of his ability to chew gum, he has been missing, and has been listed by the Sentries as "over the hill". Anyone spotting "Radar" is requested to call the Sergeant of the Guard at the San Luis Rey Gate. The Sentries think that the pooch might be trying to "crash" the movies in Hollywood, and concluded that when he is returned be will be "brigged" for an indefinite period.
