Welcome to the Carmarthenshire Business Guide
In recent years Carmarthenshire has seen unprecedented levels of investment in the business environment. It is now a place with optimism, growing confidence and has so much more to give. The recent transformations of Llanelli and Carmarthen towns, Ffos Las Racecourse, The Beacon and Llanelli Waterside are all current examples of investment in infrastructure, people and business and we’ve got more to tell you about too – with major transformational projects on the horizon, the county will see further investment in the economy in the next 5 years.
We are a diverse county in many ways, our towns and villages have unique features; our business community operates across many key emerging growth sectors. Our tourism and leisure offering is inimitable and offers so much to residents and visitors alike. We offer strategic employment sites for business and employees to thrive. High levels of digital connectivity are now in Carmarthenshire for us to benefit from in both our home and work lives; and with more investment underway and planned for our transport infrastructure, our county is now extremely well connected.
We’re fortunate in Carmarthenshire to be able to accommodate all ventures regardless of their size or business sectors. Our track record of attracting blue-chip brands to the county is enviable but we’ll never overlook the new, unknown or opportune investor –all enterprise is welcome and we firmly
believe that our ability to adapt to the bespoke and tailored needs of every individual is a key strength of the Economic Development team.
With a big vote of thanks to all those involved within the guide, we hope that you find it helpful and informative!

In July 2013, Edwina Hart, Minister for Economy, Science & Transport officially launched the Swansea Bay City Region, the first of its kind in Wales. The City Region has been designed to create jobs, boost prosperity and encourage inward investment.
Carmarthenshire is very much part of this.
THE SWANSEA BAY CITY REGION
The Swansea Bay City Region encompasses the four local authority areas of Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
It brings together business, local government and a range of other partners, working to a common goal of creating economic prosperity for the people who live and work in our City Region.
An impressive number of multinational companies including Tata, Amazon, South Hook LNG, Admiral, Virgin and GE have already made significant investments in the region. As a region it will make the most of our opportunities and our potential to attract and secure more investment.
Our vision for the region is that by 2030 South West Wales will be a confident,
ambitious and connected European City Region, recognised internationally for its emerging Knowledge and Innovation economy.
To achieve this, work will now focus on delivering the Swansea Bay City Region Economic Regeneration Strategy. The Swansea Bay City Region Board will oversee this work, chaired by Sir Terry Matthews.
The Board will continue to engage with businesses and other interested parties to identify the priorities for the Swansea Bay City Region going forward, ready for the new structural funds programme when it is open for business.

Growing from the success of investment at both the Food and Business Zones, the site extends to 19 hectares over 2 phases. Phase 1 is well underway and is scheduled to come to market in the summer of 2015 - at 8.5 hectares it has the capacity to house high quality business properties including offices.
Cross hands east
Targeted towards the key development sectors in Wales and beyond, Cross Hands East will undoubtedly provide a high quality commercial environment to deliver significant employment and development opportunities for many. Phase 2 will see approximately another 10 hectares developed for additional growth and also provide an opportunity for hotel development.
As part of the wider Growth Zone, the location at Cross Hands is first class for business use with immediate access to the A48/M4 road network – local, national and international markets are within quick reach. We widely recognise that no business or project is the same as the next. There are always a myriad of requirements needed in any project and the business team has the skill to resolve all of them.
The open attitude of the team is founded in getting things done and overcoming obstacles to see projects come to fruition in the county. Quite often projects demand solutions that are unconventional – this is never a problem to resolve for a Carmarthenshire business.

Many of the firms who have located here in recent times will testify to this and no doubt recall fondly their overall experience of developing their project into Carmarthenshire. Carmarthenshire has built up a broad based and varied economy, offering balance and opportunity both for investors and local people.
While developing centres of excellence and business clusters in a few vital sectors, the wider aim is to create an economy that offers stability and longterm prosperity. The foundations are sound. Carmarthenshire’s indigenous economy ranges from strong food
development and creative industries, to highly specialised and high technology businesses, to large scale manufacturing and engineering. Big name businesses are commonplace and reside alongside the SME backbone of the County.

Keeping National Infrastructure Secure For Over Half A Century
Morgan Marine this year celebrates its 50th year of providing industrial and personnel housings for the utilities and construction sectors.
The South Wales-based company has a wealth of specialist knowledge and experience of protecting critical equipment which has helped it become the UK’s leader in the design, manufacture and installation of custom-built security enclosures and door sets used to protect critical national infrastructure.
Morgan Marine is the only company in the UK to manufacture LPCB accredited security products in both Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP) and steel, and has become the UK’s most highly-respected business associated with the design and manufacture of both GRP and steel security products.
Morgan Marine’s personalised approach means that the team works to the specific, and often complex, requirements of every client. This is a huge draw for many clients due to the versatility of the individually tailored GRP, steel and LPCB security rated solutions available.
Over the past 50 years, Morgan Marine has invested heavily in research and development and, as a result, became the first company in the country to meet LPCB physical security test standard LPS 1175 for all its GRP products. The company continues to add to its already comprehensive array of LPCB products with the recent addition of bar-sets to protect windows up to LPCB SR level four and the current testing of cages will mean they have the largest range of LPCB accredited security products in the UK.
SECURE
Morgan Marine’s range of GRP security enclosures, the Titan range, revolutionised the industry by offering clients a choice of build materials for the first time. This, combined with complete flexibility in build size, introduced a new dimension to the products available. The Titan range complements the already popular Hercules SAF and Taurus ranges of SR2 and SR3 and SR4 steel enclosures and doors, with each range offering total flexibility of build size. There are multiple lock options to suit specific specifications plus a selection of LPCB certified ventilation options and numerous additional features. Other products of note include the choice of adding viewing windows and panels, generator cap flaps, louvers and cowls all tested to LPS 1175.
In recent years Morgan Marine has provided GRP housings to many major infrastructure projects for the water, power, rail and nuclear industries.
Morgan Marine are continuously developing new product ranges and push the limits of manufacturing to make sure it stays ahead of the field and remains at the forefront of the security enclosure and door sets industry worldwide. The business continues to grow from strength to strength; it employs 260 people across three sites and has a turnover of £20 million.
In addition, last year saw the completion of construction work to modernise, extend and redevelop their head office in Llandybie, South Wales. Additional space of 16,000 sq ft has been created to provide meeting rooms and new offices to accommodate the ten new members of the sales and design teams that have been recruited to facilitate the company’s expansion into new markets. The design of the building has been giving an award of Highly Commended.
This all bodes well for the business as it looks to maintain and develop its market leading position in order to keep meeting the needs of the construction sector for the next 50 years and beyond.
