The special education program at Back Creek Christian Academy serves students with mild, moderate, and significant disabilities. Students with disabilities receive the majority of their services and supports within the context of general education classrooms. Children with autism spectrum disorders are taught using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is a research-based method proven successful in treating children with language delays, communication disorders, and other developmental disabilities.
Students at the Tier 1 level are on usually on grade level or slightly below grade level and need instructional support to progress, which requires collaboration between the special education teacher and general education teacher. Accommodations are provided through differentiated assessment where students can show their skills in various ways. These students need specialized instruction or behavioral approaches to be successful, but do not require an additional paraprofessional support at all times. Parents receive progress reports for IEP goals on a quarterly basis.
Tier 1
Students at the Tier 2 level are performing at least 1-2 grade levels below and/or have behavioral difficulties that require additional support beyond the classroom management plan. For these students, ongoing planning and collaboration is needed, often requiring an additional paraprofessional support. Curriculum content may be modified as appropriate to teach the same concepts that the general education class is learning, but through differentiated instruction and evidence-based practices. Parents receive progress reports for IEP goals on a monthly basis.
Tier 2
The Student Services Department offers a continuum of educational services for students with learning challenges.
Tier 3
Students at the Tier 3 level are typically significantly below grade level in one or more academic and/or behavioral areas, which requires individualized instruction and/or behavioral approaches throughout the school day. Students at this tier level need carefully planned lesson development and specific techniques to deliver instruction within the context of the general education classroom. The content is related to the general education classroom curriculum but may also focus on instruction for independent functioning, social and communication skills.

ARRIVAL
ELEMENTARY OVERVIEW
All children must be checked in at a kiosk prior to entering the classroom. Once they receive a kiosk-generated nametag, they may go to their classroom where a caring room leader will greet them. Parents should sign their children in on the blue sign in sheet inside the room including all information requested on the sheet. Leaders will ensure that all parents sign in their children.
OPENING ACTIVITIES
From 8:45 AM-9 AM, children will work on opening activities, such as worksheets, games, or crafts that introduce the Bible story and big idea for the day’s lesson. These activities are designed to be flexible, as children typically arrive in a staggered fashion the first 15 minutes of class.
LARGE GROUP: BIBLE TIME
From 9 AM-9:30 AM, children will enjoy a large group worship time in the Elementary Worship Room. Service elements include live worship music, the Bible story taught by the Children’s Pastor, video elements, announcements, and special recognitions, such as birthdays.
SMALL GROUP ACTIVITIES
From 9:30 AM-10 AM, children will return to their classrooms with their Sunday School Teachers for small group discussion and lesson reinforcements. Activities include crafts, games, missions emphases, and times of prayer—all focused on reinforcing the lesson taught in Large Group.
DEPARTURE
All children must be picked up at their classroom. Parents must present the security tag to pick up their child.
