The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) of the Government of Karnataka shall conduct the centralized counseling for the UG course (Medical MBBS), and seats are allotted by merit selection which is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).

Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria regarding age and Qualifying Marks as per Medical Council of India, Regulations on Graduate Medical Education,1997 Rule 4 Admission to the Medical Course Eligibility Criteria.
Duration of the Course
Every student shall undergo a period of certified study extending over 4 ½ academic years divided into 4 Phases from the date of commencement of his study for the subjects comprising the medical curriculum to the date of completion of the examination and followed by one year of compulsory rotating Medical internship(CRMI).
Postgraduate (MD/MS) Admission procedure in VIMS
Eligibility Criteria –
Candidates in possession of the MBBS degree or Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate recognized as per the provisions of the NMC Act, 2019 and the repealed Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and possessing permanent or provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the NMC/ the erstwhile Medical Council of India or State Medical Council and have completed one year of internship or are likely to complete the internship on or before the prescribed cut off for a particular admission session, and are eligible in NEET PG conducted by National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

The period of training for the award of various postgraduate degrees or diplomas shall be as follows:
1)Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) / Master of Surgery (M.S.): The period of training for obtaining these degrees shall be three completed years, including the period of examination.
2)Provided that in the case of students having a recognized two year postgraduate diploma course in the same subject, the period of training, including the period of examination, shall be two years.

Hostels: Hostels have a seating capacity of 2139 students. There are separate accommodations for boys and girls, which vary from single occupancy to three in a room, these hostels have independent libraries in their respective buildings.
