This project centers on an endangered craft of the British Isles, quilting within a frame. It was chosen for its applicable nature in both the US and UK, and its relation to social and generational learning. The craft of quilting within a wooden frame, and the frames made from whatever timber was lying about, informed a tangible story to the building. The door frames of the surrounding buildings created frames which could be used for in-situ casting of concrete panels for the wall structure.

The idea for the vertical organization of the building is to have a central shared artery for circulation, which doubles as a protected stair for fire safety purposes. This creates a separation between the two residences but allows for some crossover for coincidental socialization as well as for shared space.

Much of the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s history is shrouded in mystery. The goal of this project was to uncover aspects of this history, constructing a timeline of the organization both in legislation and in tangible changes to the streets of the city of Boston. The resulting exhibition consisted of a full timeline of the BRA, and the changes to three major areas of the city before urban renewal, just after urban renewal, and in the present day.
