A YEAR IN REVIEW Through partnerships and sponsorships, we had aMAYSing accomplishments this year. From the co-hosted virtual celebration with the U.S. Peace Corps in recognition of their 60th Anniversary to the A&M-SA Model UN team competing virtually in the Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference and receiving the award for “Most Honorable Delegation." Inspired by the Excelencia Institute, comprehensive changes to on-campus student employment include the incorporation of guided reflection on work, increased supervisor training, and direct connections between learning and NACE Career Competencies. This was also the beginning of the Mays Center Community Advisory Council. FINANCIAL LITERACY

VOTER-FRIENDLY CAMPUS

We had exciting programs this year including: Ask Me Anything about Budgets and Credit and Financial Literacy Bingo! Over 200 students attended these new programs.

Designated a voter friendly campus and co-hosted Election Night and Presidential Inauguration watch parties.

NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH The American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions performed on campus to celebrate Native American Heritage and our campus’ history.

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The 2020-2021 academic year was unusual on many accounts and, of course, the Mays Center was not alone. However, the year challenged us to think in new ways and be more innovative than ever before. We have engaged with our students in multiple new formats, and have been able to work with more partners on several fronts. We were also able to expand our staff and launch workforce development initiatives. I hope you enjoy reviewing this annual report and consider ways in which we might partner in 2021-2022.

DAY OF SERVICE Choose. Act. Impact. had 162 participants volunteer at Cibolo Nature Center Area, Cibolo Nature Center Farm, Habitat for Humanity, San Antonio Food Bank's Urban Farm, Texas Diaper Bank, San Juan Mission Community Farm, Arnold Park, and the campus garden.

Michea is A&M-SA's first Newman Civic Fellow, a recognition from Campus Compact, a national organization committed to civic engagement and service-learning. Michea served as the lead and community liaison for the 2nd Annual Human Trafficking Conference that had over 200 attendees from across the nation.

Juan was recognized with the first-ever Community Champions Spirit of SA Award hosted by the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County for helping distribute food to families during the global pandemic through the San Antonio Food Bank. He also received the President's Volunteer Service Award for his 101 hours of volunteer service.

Clay served as a Financial Literacy Fellow for the past two years. n this role, he has led workshops for his peers on determining their values and goals and coaches them on how to budget and reach those financial goals.

"I believe financial literacy is important, because it coincides with financial stability."

LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCE

This year A&M-SA launched the Career READY Program, which allows students to utilize their Federal Work Study award to receive a market-wage for off-campus employment.

Organizations included: Momentum Physical Therapy, the San Antonio Food Bank, the San Antonio Police Department, House of Neighborly Service, Ascension DePaul Services, Saddle Light Center, MixFit SA, disABILITYsa, several area school districts, and many more!

"All essential workers have made many sacrifices in the last months. I have been a student teacher since August, and I have the utmost respect for teachers. This semester has been unpredictable and challenging, but it has also been an eye-opening experience and one that I will remember forever."

MISSION: FUTURE

More students are utilizing this tool than ever before! The transcript tracks the experience a student is gaining while at A&M-SA. Students can then showcase their experience on a resume.

This year we launched Mission: Future, a workforce development program aimed at working with individuals in the community in the areas of career exploration and advancement, financial literacy, and CliftonStrengths.

C2C ENGAGED 5,862 VIEWS Student interns created videos about A&M-SA employees and their career journey for the SA Works High School Job Shadow Day, an annual city-wide event that was hosted in virtual format. Videos garnered a total of 5862 views across 52 high schools.

Victoria started in Spring 2020 with Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society as part of the C2C Engaged program. Victoria set a goal to learn more about becoming a CPA. Victoria used the opportunity to look at professional CPA organizations, where she discovered the A&M-SA branch of a national CPA organization and now holds the position of secretary.

VIRTUAL EXTERNSHIPS This new innovation on the traditional externship experience brought Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union leaders and students together in a virtual space for networking, learning, and understanding the employer perspective on hiring. Students gained insights on the company and learned about networking in the virtual space.

MEET VICTORIA

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING Mays Center staff coordinated seven projects and partnerships for experiential learning classes with organizations including: Alzheimer's Association, SAMMinistries, Black Stallion Boxing Plus, TelResource, and Girls on the Run. Some of the projects included developing a social media plan and marketing opportunities for new initiatives in response to closures and the need to innovate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A series of 2 workshops, How to Start a Virtual Internship and How to Manage Interns Virtually, is given once a semester in partnership with the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). This program averages 2-6 area small business owners per session.

This partnership with UTSA and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has contributed to community outreach and internship opportunity development.

$1,500 FELLOWSHIP Developed an Experiential Learning Fellowship to allow non-work authorized students to gain experience through an on-campus project of their choosing with guidance from a professional mentor.

READY FOR CAREERS A&M-SA co-hosted the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)’s Emerging Leaders Summit where over 100 students were able to interact with employers such as Oracle, GM Financial, Future Housing Leaders, XPO Logistics, Corteva Agriscience, and PetSmart throughout the day. Participants also got to hear from President Matson and Vice President The Mays Center collaborated with 13 Hispanic Serving Institutions from across the nation to host a two-day Career Conference and Expo. The goal of the event was to engage industry in meaningful conversation about how to develop effective recruitment and retention strategies when connecting with Hispanic/Latinx talent.

Through this initiative, students had the opportunity to connect with 140+ employers such as Microsoft, Toyota, and Dell. This event was proudly sponsored

by X the moonshot factory, Accenture, Ford Motors, H-E-B, IRS, and AbbVie.

Gustavo de la Fuente (in photo below), a senior, was highlighted for being a Fellow with HACU. Veronica Erdmann, a junior, was one of only 5 attendees to be selected to receive a scholarship to attend the Adelante Leadership Conference to be held this fall in Colorado.

NETWORKING EVENTS

3 OUT OF 5 WERE GRADUATING SENIORS

In April 2021, national U.S. Navy recruiters hosted 'Navy Days' on campus, following all safety guidelines. All students were given the opportunity to earn a free Lean Six Sigma White Belt Certification and learn about professional careers with the U.S. Navy.

The Mays Center connected students and alumni with over 600 career fairs and networking events. There were hundreds of students in attendance, eager to learn and network with industry professionals. One of these fairs was an A&M system-wide fair that was spearheaded by A&M-SA staff.

GM FINANCIAL NIGHT The 3rd GM Financial Night (in collaboration with the College of Business) gave students the opportunity to network with GM Financial leadership and learn valuable skills for their career.

STUDENT REACH During the COVID-19 pandemic, we expanded our reach to students who can now interact with us through an online chat feature, texting option, and active programming on many online social media and streaming platforms. We also expanded the reach of our newsletters so now even more students, faculty, and alumni are aware of our programs and services. During this time, Career Services also provided over 400 virtual appointments.

DATA SAVVY

WOMEN LEADERSHIP

Students interested in data analytics were given the opportunity to attend a Tableau Workshop cohosted by Professor Robert Vinaja in a collaboration with the College of Business.

Attendees were able to download Tableau for free.

Multiple Career Services leaders have helped produce local and regional programming through the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers concerning topics such as women in leadership and connecting with employer needs. Locally, Career Services Director served as a mentor for Bizwomen’s annual Mentoring Monday event for 2021.

MAJORS & MINORS

ACCESSIBILITY

A&M-SA hosted its first virtual Majors and Minors Week. This three-day event consisted of 9 career-focused discussions featuring 24 A&M-SA alumni.

"Accessibility in the Workplace” was a livestreamed panel discussion co-hosted in recognition of Disability Employment Awareness month. The panel consisted of industry professionals who discussed state and local resources available to support a disability-inclusive workplace.

JAGUAR SPOTLIGHT The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes the important role of volunteers who demonstrate commitment and inspire others to engage in volunteer service by their example. Five students were recognized for volunteering over 700 hours combined.

The A&M-S.A. campus garden and greenhouse continues to be a resource for the university community by providing harvested vegetables and fruits to the General’s Store food pantry and educational programming for students. A student manager was appointed to work

On the first day, university staff and student volunteers were on hand to help with water distribution, as well as Councilwomen Rebecca Viagran from District 3 and Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia from District 4.
