Vision for the Mays Business School

BUSINESS EDUCATION COMPLEX The vision for the new Business Education Complex is to be an environment that promotes connectivity, creativity, and collaboration, which would better reflect conducting business today. Learning has changed. Today, we need active learning classrooms which are configured in ways that students are able to work in small teams to solve real-world business problems, which will advance the world’s prosperity. The first floor will be open and include a coffee shop where current and former students, faculty, and staff can assemble and connect. It also will be a place where various outreach centers can create and be showcased. It will also include active learning studios that incorporate advanced academic technology. The second and third floors will have spaces for digital media, innovation, and lifelong learning. Business education has always been competitive. However, in more recent years, global competition has become more acute, as business schools abroad now compete for the top students and company support. We must hire and retain the right faculty and support staff to build relevant curricula and couple in-class learning with complementary experiential learning opportunities. Similar to football stadiums, it has become an arms race to have state-of-theart facilities for business education. Prospective students, corporations, and prospective and current faculty are drawn to modern facilities. Furthermore, like it or not, facilities are also part of the rankings.

Mays Business School is a family, knitted together in all that we do. Mays is a place wrapped in a genuine sense of belonging and warmth. We lean on each other to be something even greater as we strive to achieve our vision of “advancing the world’s prosperity.” The new Business Education Complex will be a tangible asset toward our mission to be a vibrant learning organization, creating impactful knowledge, and developing transformational leaders. Located near the epicenter of the rapidly expanding Texas A&M campus, the Business Education Complex will be focused on delivering lifelong learning to the diverse Mays community. Recently, the West Campus Library celebrated its 25-year anniversary and was renamed the Business Library and Collaboration Commons. This not only reflects the evolution of the library, but also its place as an integral part of the Business Education Complex. Incorporating the precepts of the campus Master Plan, the Business Education Complex will connect the central student pedestrian mall with White Creek Greenway creating a new “B Quad” of dynamic outdoor spaces. We truly have an aMAYSing future with the Business Education Complex as the hub of our vision and mission.

ASSEMBLE We envision a grand atrium at the heart of the new complex. To bring our family together, this assembly space will promote connection and communication through its design. We will combine natural light with a striking flexible space to allow for large gatherings and informal “collisions” that will garner the attention of Mays community.

ENERGIZE Whether it is a quick cup of coffee or a bite to eat, the ReyRey Café will be there to keep Mays family energized and refreshed. The café will offer opportunities for engagement, encouraging students and faculty alike to spend a longer time in the building. It will create a sense of belonging in a warm and cheerful environment.

HUDDLE It’s important to provide ample space to read, study, and converse. Flexibility and comfort are the keys with space for high-touch and high-tech interaction.
