We are thankful for friends, families, and donors like you who support the children and adults with autism, brain injury, and other special needs we serve.

THANKS TO YOU, IN 2015 WE WERE ABLE TO: Offer 28 clinical training workshops for hundreds of educators, psychologists, behavior analysts, social workers, nurses, and licensed mental health workers; Provide 336 children under the age of three with early intervention treatment in their own homes to help improve communication and behaviors; Place 67 students with autism, brain injury, and other disabilities from our May Center Schools in job

training programs at 17 employer work sites; and Open two new adult residences, providing a secure and happy home for 14 individuals in our care.

MEET JALISA

“Like most teenage girls, Jalisa has crushes on boys, and loves to dress up and to dance.”

“We knew Jalisa was different when she was placed with us for foster care, but it wasn’t until she was three months old that we learned she had Costello Syndrome. At the time, only 25 people in the world had that diagnosis. The condition is global, affecting most every area of the body.

Jalisa has a happy personality that draws in all who meet her.

She is inquisitive and enjoys school immensely. At the May Center School for Brain Injury and Related Disorders, they just know how to teach her in a way she can learn. She gets to go to dances, and she was so excited to go to her prom!

When Jalisa was an infant, she left us briefly for a preadoption that didn’t work out.

When she came back, we kept her from then on — she’s a keeper. When we announced it in church, they said, “Thank God she’s finally ours!” And we said, “OK, we’ll share!”

Making a Lasting Impact: JANET CHARLTON O’CONNOR In September, the Board of Trustees honored the legacy and family of the late Janet Wright Charlton O’Connor for her bequest of nearly $900,000 by naming the foyer of May’s corporate headquarters in Randolph, Mass., for Mrs. O’Connor.

The bequest, the largest gift of its kind ever received by May Institute, allowed us to establish the Janet Charlton O’Connor Endowment Fund to support educational and adult services as well as the National Autism Center at May Institute, which promotes evidencebased treatment for autism.

The dedication ceremony was well attended by the trustees, May Institute staff, and three generations of Mrs. O’Connor’s family — her stepdaughter Julia Charlton, grandson Gideon Gray, and great-grandson Joshua.

“I have the deepest admiration for the work done by the staff and teachers at May Institute,” said Julia Charlton.

“I have seen Joshua make significant progress over the years, and I hope that in the future May can continue doing what it’s been doing.”

Why do YOU give?

In November, we introduced Champions of Care, May Institute’s new annual fall appeal, and asked families, friends, and donors to write a note in appreciation of the work of a staff member, classroom, or program.

The purpose of this annual appeal is to recognize the work of May employees who provide care throughout the year.

Meet Our New Balance Falmouth Road Race Team!

We are so proud of our New Balance Falmouth Road Race runners, each of whom has a unique story of why they want to run to support May Institute and strong motivations for running the seven-mile course in August.

Each year #TEAMMay plays a crucial role in raising funds to support May Institute’s programs and services for children and adults with autism, brain injury, and other special needs. We are grateful to be selected to be part of the Race’s Numbers for Nonprofits program for the fifth year. Since

that time, our team has doubled from ten runners to twenty, and #TEAMMay has raised more than $36,500.

This year, our runners hope to collectively raise more than $15,000. Runners will receive ongoing support from May Institute in reaching their individual fundraising goals and during their training.
