Principal’s Foreword

Mayflower Secondary is 38 years old this year!

In these 38 years, the school has stayed true to its mission to achieve our Mayflower Promise – To develop future-ready Mayflowerians with a Zest for Life, a Curious Mind and a Generous Spirit. Our Mayflower Promise reflects the confidence we have in our students’ abilities and our aim to develop Mayflowerians as wholesome individuals who can make a difference in the lives of others.

2019 has been an eventful year for the school, where new programmes were introduced to enrich students’ school experience. The school’s Applied Learning Programme (ALP) has been our signature programme in developing Mayflowerians to be confident communicators with a curious mind; our Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in Aesthetics heightens students’ zest for life and passion for the arts; while our Values-in-Action projects and National Education programmes serve to develop Mayflowerians with a generous spirit who respect and celebrate differences in others.

At Mayflower, we will continually blaze new trails to develop Mayflowerians with the resilience to bounce back from setbacks, passion to embrace lifelong learning, as well as agility and resourcefulness to deal confidently with the challenges of a dynamic, ever changing future.

Thank you.

From the Vice-Principals

Indeed, the year has been filled with many significant and memorable moments for all of us in the Mayflower family. As we rejoice, let us not forget that ‘Every Mayflowerian - Mighty in Thought and Deed’. May the Mayflower experiences also lay a strong foundation to enable you to navigate through the challenges of the present and future, to lead with character and develop the learning dispositions to be able to ‘Learn for Life’.

2019 has been an exciting year for all of us! I trust that the experiences throughout the year would have helped to shape you to be a Mayflowerian that is Mighty in Thought and Deed. Always remember that each and every one of us has a role to play to make the world a better place to live in. As we embark on this journey to ‘Learn for Life’, may I also urge us to remember that success and failure is but an outcome. It is only by having a ‘Learn for Life’ mindset that we can continue to grow to be better Mayflowerians.

‘Learn for Life’ is a mental model that we can cultivate as a way of life. It is the intrinsic curiosity of the world we live in and the intrinsic motivation to learn to make the world a better place. If we can make small steps one at a time, and cumulatively from the individuals and the school, it will be a giant step forward. ‘Mayflower why not you?’ –together we can do better!

MAYFLOWER EVENTS

6 MAYFLOWER PROMISE 2019

Speech Day

Our Minister, Mr Ong Ye Kung, shared the need for schools to usher in a new phase of change called ‘Learn for Life’. ‘Learn for Life’ is a value, an attitude and a skill that students need to be future ready. Every child will have a good start in life and can access opportunities at every stage of their lives to fulfil their aspirations, regardless of their starting points.

I wholeheartedly believe that ‘Learn for Life’ embodies the spirit of a true Mayflowerian. Our student-centered curriculum and engaging school experience provide a nurturing environment for students to develop 21st century competencies and dispositions that will equip them for the future. In line with our Mayflower Promise, our signature programmes cultivate a Zest for Life through the Aesthetics Learning for Life Programme (LLP), a Curious Mind through the Effective Communications Applied Learning Programme (ALP) and a Generous Spirit through Leadership and Service Learning Programmes.

Our Guest-of-Honour for this year’s Speech Day, Mr Fang Koh Look, Founder and Executive Chairman of Absolute Kinetics Consultancy (Mayflower Class of 1986) sums up our aspirations for every Mayflowerian. Dare to dream, go out and pursue that dream and never say die. Be Mighty in Thought and Deed.

Mayflowerian of the Year Speech

... Let’s say want to be a professional soccer player. Let’s say I aspire to be the next Cristiano Ronaldo! Or the next Messi! But how would spending three painstaking hours on solving a single E-math question help me in any way to become the next Ronaldo or Messi? There doesn’t seem to be any link between the two. Yet, fundamentally, it is the trying and failing of a math sum—repeatedly—that develops the kind of perseverance these soccer players need. Great soccer players work hard on honing their techniques, their free kicks, their sprints, just to try and fail repeatedly to eventually perfect their legendary skills. have to perfect my answering technique just like how they perfect their kicks. It’s the mindset that is the key takeaway. With enough practice, surely, one day, it will make perfect and will get to where I aim to be. just have to trust the process, believe in myself, and take comfort that my teachers, my friends and my family all want the best for me...

... It’s common for people to judge others purely based on what they see on the surface. But they don’t realise the sheer amount of learning and metamorphosis one has to go through, the various difficulties and struggles one faces before any achievements can be made. am a prime example of that someone who has to overcome many challenges to achieve the grades that once thought I could only dream of. I was only able to do so by changing my outlook on my life. I once merely went through the motions of attending school, but since believing in the notion that I am special in my own way and that I can surely do something for myself if only dared to dream, I became motivated. Even if it doesn’t feel like it right now, I believe we must trust that we are all special in our own little ways, ignore the naysayers that tell you that it’s impossible, and maintain the positivity that we will grow into great people our current selves may never have thought about. As long as we put in the effort, it will definitely pay off. It may not work out now, but we are paving the way for success in our future...

CRAFT & TECHNOLOGY

Nutrition & Food Science Unit

The Nutrition & Food Science Unit organised a ‘Joy of Baking’ experience, as part of the Learn for Life Programme for Secondary 1 students. For some, it was their very first baking experience. While discovering the joy of baking butter cakes and biscuits, students learned about the science behind it as well. The challenge came later in the form of having to create new recipes using unusual ingredients. The module culminated in a visit to the Yakult Factory that provided a glimpse into the food industry in Singapore.

Art Unit

Open Studio Exhibition 2019

The exhibition this year was officiated by Mdm Lee on 22 May. Through this exhibition, we hope to develop our students’ individual voice and identity, and provide an avenue to share their artistic achievements with the school community.

Learn for Life Programme - Mixed Media Sculpture Workshop

This year, the MF Art Unit embarked on the NAC Artist-in-School Programme. The school engaged renowned mixedmedia artist, Mr Ahmad Abu Bakar, to work with twenty of our students. Our students worked with clay, wire and adhesives, and curated their artworks for the Open Studio exhibition. The students also had the fortune to visit the artist’s studio where they got a sneak-peek of a practitioner’s working processes and environment.

Learning Journey to Changi Airport

Secondary 3F Art students embarked on a learning journey to Changi Airport to conduct an investigation of three art sculptures. In doing so, our students got to see and feel the sculptures, as well as analyse the materials used to create them.

Visit to Dance with the Wind Exhibition

Secondary 3D art students visited the Dance with the Wind art exhibition by Cultural Medallion winner Han Sai Por, at the iPRECIATION gallery. Through facilitated activities, students were sensitised to the nuances between various art elements as well as gained a deeper understanding of how sketches can be translated to the 3D form.

Collaboration with Apple for iPad Art Lessons

Through a collaboration with Apple, Secondary 3F students used a variety of apps such as Adobe Mix, Sketchbook, and GoArt in their art creations in Term 2. In Term 3, students continued to harness technology, making lessons more purposeful and joyous.

Collaboration with the Singapore Teachers’ Academy for the aRts (STAR)

As part of the Senior Teacher Programme conducted by the Singapore Teachers’ Academy for the Arts (STAR), a group of Senior and Master Teachers visited us to film the facilitation of Art lessons taught by Ms Nurulhuda and Mr Marcus Ho on 21 February this year. A lively dialogue ensued thereafter between our Art Unit and the visiting team incorporating elements of the Singapore Teaching Practice that could in turn be applied to benefit students’ learning.

Design & Technology Unit

In Term 1, Secondary 1 and Sec 2 students embarked on an inhouse Design, Innovation and Entreprenueurship programme, centred on the theme of “Experience, Design and Create”. The programme was designed to build an entrepreneurial spirit and innovative mindset in our students.

At the “Experience” stage, students gained a deeper understanding of entrepreneuership through the interaction session with startup founders. They also visited the Singapore Design Centre and studied signature landmarks to deepen their understanding of the Design history and culture in Singapore.

At the “Design and Create” stage, students were exposed to a design thinking skillset and the use the technology through play. This allowed for students to appreciate the interplay between the Experience, Design and Create components.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE & LITERATURE

The English Department’s vision ‘Effective Speakers, Creative Writers and Critical Thinkers’ is the driving force of our Applied Learning Programme (ALP). The ALP that commenced in 2016, is one of the niche programmes of Mayflower secondary. This strategic approach in language learning has certainly motivated our students in various areas such as writing, presentation, debate and public speaking skills. ALP in Mayflower is driven by the EL curriculum and takes a tiered approach that anchors broad-based programmes for all levels.

This year, in collaboration with Student Leadership Committee, the lower secondary students learned personal leadership skills as they worked in teams on their skits and projects. All Secondary 1 students participated in the Speech and Drama Programme (ALP Tier 1) where they learned the fundamentals of Drama such as production and stage directions. The programme culminated in an assembly showcase where the best presented their skit. Secondary 2 students participated in the Journalism and Broadcast Programme which focuses on news reporting and photojournalism. Here, students highlighted school related issues and featured events.

Our Secondary 3 students (Normal Technical) attended a school-based workshop on Public Speaking while the Express students attended a Critical Thinking and Oracy course. By and large, students valued the experience. Here are some students’ response to their experience:

Our ALP Tier 2 students were further stretched in competitions like ACJC Orator’s trophy and PESA and taking part in a live debate on K pop’s popularity at the school assembly.

The Literature curriculum has a strong focus on personal engagement of students. An exhibition in school featuring student projects based on our Sec 1 Literature text was organised. Also, two teams took part in the National Singapore Literature Festival (NSLF). Through the various activities, students have developed a deeper appreciation of Literature.

To experience the Joy of Learning first hand, the teachers also embarked on a Learning Journey to Art Jam and showcased their creativity via painting.

HUMANITIES

Department Vision: Humanities students and staff are lifelong learners with a global perspective.

At Mayflower Secondary, we strive to prepare our students to excel beyond exam results. Instead we aim to instil a love for the humanities in our students, to equip them with skills needed to survive in the VUCA world. The focus thus has been on holistic development, self-discovery and engaged learning.

With inquiry based learning being the cornerstone of our approach to the learning of the humanities, the team focussed on making learning authentic, relevant and student-centred. The department continued to review our ‘Assessment for Learning’ strategies and infusing elements of the Singapore Teaching Practice. Also, for professional development, the team embarked on honing our skills to conduct discussion-based lessons. To equip our students with the right skills, values and attitudes for the future, the team has also been focused on increasing ways to promote independent learning and creativity.

Key Programmes / Competitions

Geographical (GI) /Historical (HI) /Social Studies Issue Investigations (II)

These projects continue to be an integral part of our curriculum as students craft inquiry questions focusing on areas of interest, obtaining data from primary and secondary sources, and exploring possibilities as they analyse and form conclusions on authentic real world issues.

MOE Challenge!

Selected students took part in the History and Geography competitions organized by the Curriculum and Planning Division in MOE (CPDD). The aim was to provide students with opportunities to be stretched beyond the curriculum. Avril Moh (4 Integrity) and Cara Wong (3 Endeavour), qualified for the Talent Development Programme meant for students who are strong in the humanities and interested in pursuing it at the A levels.

PROVE IT! & War & Diplomacy Competitions

In line with developing a joy of learning, selected students had the opportunity to take part in these competitions that came in the form of games. For Prove It!, students tested the reliability of sources, identifying the tenets of reliable sources and detecting fake news. The latter was a game that required students to astutely strategise and make decisions to win.

Inter-School Philosophy Dialogue @ Raffles Girls’ Secondary School

Selected Secondary Three students stepped out of their comfort zone to discuss a range of issues with students from various schools in Singapore. Lee Yi Shuen, from 3 Integrity, received the Gadfly award for being the best inquirer in her group.

Learn-for-life Department Activity

In line with the “learn for life” national directive, the Humanities department bonded over a fun art jamming session that allowed the teachers to de-stress at the same time.

MATHEMATICS

We nurture students to be avid problem solvers, who are able to appreciate the Mathematics surrounding them, have the drive to take on challenges and enjoy while persevering through the solving process. We aim to inspire our students to view Mathematics beyond just examinations and as a language of logic, as well as cultivate the ability to see Mathematical problems as real-world challenges that require multiple perspectives and lenses. One of our signature projects for Secondary 1 students this year is bringing Statistics to Life, where students collect real-world data around them, make meaning of the data and then use it for providing solutions to everyday problems.

Every child matters to us and thus we continuously seek various methods to engage the student, in teaching and learning, in the pursuit of mastery of this beautiful subject. Our teachers are exemplars of lifelong learning, who constantly sharpen and hone their pedagogical skills, strongly guided by the Singapore Teaching Practice. Weekly timetabled sessions provide a rich platform for teachers to come together as a community to engage in Mathematical discourse and develop future-ready lesson packages while keeping in sync with key changes in the educational landscape. This mantra of “progress in collective wisdom” has built strong camaraderie in the department. It encourages each one to share and learn best practices from one another.

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep in touch with the latest developments in the tertiary educational landscape, the department paid a visit to the state-ofthe-art Singapore University of Technology and Design to understand better of what is expected of our students after their secondary education.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION & MUSIC

The Music Programme at MF aims to develop in our students the ability to appreciate music, and a passion for music making. Sec 1 students learned to groove to the rhythm of hip-hop music. To develop confidence in public performance among Lower Secondary students, a 5-week dance programme culminated in an Inter-Class Dance Competition.

Guided by Jerome Brunner’s Pedagogical Theory of Spiral Curriculum, Sec 1 students also learnt to play the ukulele, leading to its application in a song-cover project. Besides that, they also learnt to use technology to create a four-piece band song. For Sec 2 students, song composition has been included into the curriculum to expand the depth and breadth of each student’s musical knowledge.

As part of our Outdoor Education Programme, our Sec 3 students took part in Navigation and Outdoor Cooking modules. This put them in good stead when the whole level attended the Outward Bound Singapore Course held from 8th to 12th April.

Both students and staff had a good spot of exercise around Bishan Park at our Cross-Country Championship on 29 Mar. There were also powerball and frisbee games, and Griffin House won the overall Champion.

Four male and four female Sec 3 Sports Leaders attended the ActiveSG Youth Sports Leaders Camp from 27th to 30th May where they had a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills while using sports as a platform.

Sec 2 students participated in the cohort camp, from 24th 27th July. They were on the move from various locations like MOE Changi Coast Camp, MOE East Coast Camp and MOE Dairy Farm Camp, through different modes of transportation – travelling on foot, on kayaks and bicycles.

As part of the Teachers’ Conference at Singapore Expo from 28th to 29th May, our PE Teacher Mr Tan Jian Xun presented on the topic of empathy in a workshop entitled “Standing in The Shoes of Others”.

On 28 Jun, the Department had a fun time out at our “Department Joy of Learning Day”, having a team bonding through “Indoor Laser Tag Battlefield” @ Dhoby Ghaut.

Finally for the Teachers’ Day Celebrations on Thursday, 5th September, both staff and students had a fun time participating in our Sports Carnival featuring powerball, volleyball, human foosball and various carnival games like archery, darts, Nerf gun and mini golf.

SCIENCE

The Science department hopes to inspire every Mayflowerian to develop a learning experience of the Sciences beyond the classroom and to stretch interested students to enhance the depth of their learning.

The Lower Secondary students are encouraged to learn beyond the curriculum through a variety of learning experiences. Be it the Biodiversity in Singapore, LEGO-based problem solving workshop or various machinery at work, the students enjoy the “minds-on, hands-on” opportunities for authentic learning.

The Upper Secondary students had opportunities to learn from the experts in the different disciplines. This included a talk on global climate precipitation events by Dr George J Huffman from NASA Goddard Space Flight Centre, a learning journey for the Secondary 4 Biology students to one of Singapore’s vertical farms, Sky Greens Vertical Farm, and the mini-healthcare workshops Enrich @ Health Sciences of Ngee Ann Polytechnic for our Sec 2 and 3 NT students. Our Sec 4 NT students also enjoyed learning about motor vehicles through our signature programme – The Science of Motor Vehicles.

For students who were keen to explore more rigorous platforms of Science, they are offered multiple opportunities for such development:

Selected Secondary 1 students embarked on a multi-week learning experience to grow their own crystals in our laboratory. Their posters encapsulating what they had learnt, were subsequently presented in the Learn for Life exhibition.

MAYFLOWER COMMITTEES

ACADEMIC INFORMATION & ASSESSMENT

The Academic Information and Assessment Committee works with the primary objective of ensuring validity, reliability and fairness in all internal and external examination processes.

The team plans, implements and reviews internal and external examination processes in Mayflower. We plan and deploy manpower for various examinations including Presiding and Chief Presiding Examiner/s for internal and external examinations, Supervisors of Oral Examinations and Science Practical, and invigilators. Upon deploying key personnel, we provide guidance and advice on roles and functions. We manage the process of candidature registration for national examinations, working closely with Form Teachers and Heads of Departments to ensure thoroughness and accuracy.

The Mayflower Secondary Assessment Policy strongly guides our internal assessment processes. The team plans the schedule for each internal examination meticulously, ensuring the timely delivery of an accurate examination timetable to the students and staff. We regulate the internal examination processes including the printing of paper, checking of examination papers, collection of scripts for marking, tracking of attendance/ MCs and other general routines. These are reviewed after each examination with refinements made when necessary.

The entire examination process is only complete upon the release of results. The committee looks into the results of both internal and external examinations. The team prepares and interprets the global reports, which supports the school management team in analysing the performance and designing the appropriate intervention strategies.

PUBLICITY KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

To support quality decision-making in the school, the Knowledge Management Committee hopes to create an evidence-based culture. This includes capturing, sharing, analysing the data and using it to make informed decision.

As with past years, the committee works closely with the school to maintain its data and making it accessible to our staff. The information of our students were shared with relevant staff, providing them with a holistic profile to support their teaching and learning in the classroom.

On top of that, the committee ensures a smooth procedure facilitating the writing of our graduating students’ testimonials that enables the testimonial to be a true reflection of the students’ achievements in both academic and non-academic areas in their years in Mayflower Secondary School.

The committee continues to strive to equip our staff with data analytical skills to deepen sound decision-making process in the school.

Aside from crafting publicity materials like brochures, the team also visits primary schools in the area to conduct talks and set up booths to inform Primary Six students about our school’s programmes.

This year, the committee again oversaw the production of the annual school magazine, a school memorabilia that aims to capture poignant moments of school life at Mayflower. This time, a digital version has also been procured so that it can be readily available for viewing on our school website.

The Mayflower Open House was also organised and held in November this year. Students and staff came together to showcase our signature programmes. The vibrant academic booths and CCA showcases gave the public a feel of what school is like at Mayflower.

The committee manages the school’s social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to share a glimpse of memorable moments of our students and staff. The committee also manages the school website, a platform that serves to share pertinent information to parents and the wider community.

PARTNERSHIP

Mayflower welcomed its new batch of Secondary 1 students and parents at the Meet-the-Parents Session and CCA Exhibition where they were briefed on the school’s Mission & Vision, Academic Excellence, Student Management & Safety Matters, Counselling & Learning Behavioural Support Services, Family Matters Programmes, Partnering for Excellence and CCA.

On 31 May, the school hosted the Parent Teacher Conference, a platform for engagement between the school, parents and teachers, to discuss the holistic wellbeing of our Mayflowerians. The Learn for Life exhibition and subject talks by school leaders inspired in students a desire for personal development. Education and Career Guidance was a focal point of this event, with a higher education fair comprising the polytechnics and ITE. Furthermore, career talks were helmed by our alumni members who shared their experiences in diverse industries. Parents also attended a parenting talk to better understand and guide their children during their formative teenage years.

At our annual Alumni Appreciation Dinner, former students came back to reminisce about their school days and bond over a meal. Illustrious alumni paid it forward by sharing with graduating students their experiences in diverse industries like finance, media, F&B and human resource. In July, we had our PSG and Alumni Games Day for a morning of games and activities to promote further bonding among our members.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT STAFF WELLNESS

The Staff Development Committee builds the capacity of staff members in Mayflower Secondary School to help us better learn, create and contribute to the Mayflower Outcomes. The Committee also seeks to empower staff innovation that is aligned to the MF Promise.

Study Skills for Secondary 1 students

A series of three study skills workshops were conducted to teach essential study skills to the Secondary 1 students during the Orientation Programme as part of our ongoing support to nurture the joy of learning. The workshops also aim to develop good study habits and values in our students, and introduce the Growth mindset to help students overcome limiting beliefs about themselves.

Staff Professional Development workshops

• Teacher Leaders in the Staff Development Committee designed a series of Milestone Programme workshops aimed at equipping staff members with key skills and learning to provide an engaging school experience that grows future-ready students and builds an evidence-based culture that supports quality decisions in the school.

• The school’s very own Singapore Teaching Practice (STP) staff workshops and Learning Series were designed and conducted for staff to familiarise ourselves on the value and intent of how the different components of the STP are interconnected to support professional practice. Teacher Leaders also demonstrated and guided staff members in the experimentation of the STP Teaching Actions during weekly departmental Timetabled Time and staff contact time.

• The Staff Retreat at Bollywood Veggies at the end of last year provided space and time for staff members to revisit their teaching philosophies. Connections were made between our educational beliefs and the 21st century competencies (21CC) that our students need.

I-Club (Interest-Club) Games

There were two I-Club Games held this year to promote bonding and friendly competition amongst departments. Staff participated in badminton and captain’s ball during the first I-Club Games. During the second I-Club Games, staff took part in Mayflower MasterChef and prepared a dish that represented the theme ‘Our Singapore’. Staff also enjoyed games such as Mario Kart on Switch consoles and Jenga. In our effort to promote a healthy lifestyle, our school participated in the National Corporate Step s Challenge organised by the Health Promotion Board.

Makan Sessions

Various ‘Makan Sessions’ were organised during special occasions such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali and Teacher’s Day for staff to mingle and bond over sumptuous food. This year, Teacher’s Day lunch was held at M Hotel and staff gamely dressed to the theme of sports.

Joy of Learning

In June, SWC representatives worked with their department heads to organise learning journeys for each department to learn, share and bond. These included interesting activities such as art jamming, ice-cream making and visits to iconic places in Singapore such as the Jewel Changi Airport.

Awards and Recognition

The school recognises staff who have gone the extra mile. The committee runs the Staff Award (internal) twice a year to recognise staff who are role models to both students and peers. For nation-wide awards, the committee nominates staff for Outstanding Youth in Education Award, President Award for Teachers and MOE Service Excellence Award. SWC also provides platforms for students, parents and even staff members to constantly affirm staff for their efforts in nurturing students in the school.

AESTHETICS

For this year’s Aesthetics Appreciation Assembly Programme, students were treated to instrumental performances by a brass quintet and also a trio of international Jazz musicians. Besides music, theatre, story-telling and dance, performers were also invited to help develop students’ ability to appreciate the different performing art forms. For a small group of students, they enjoyed the performance of Matilda the Musical by an international theatre company at Marina Bay Sands Theatre.

Other platforms to develop an appreciation for the performing arts included our annual Lunch Time Concert and Mayflower Got Talent. This year’s Lunch Time Concert was themed “LTC with a Heart”. A combined effort with students from the Uniformed Groups and Clubs CCAs, awareness of the less fortunate children in a community project was profiled through this platform. At the same time, the informal concert was also an opportunity for the budding crooners, musicians and dancers to share their passion with their contemporaries.

We are indeed very proud of Jam Band and specifically of Sihathep Top Pongphon and Cera G. A. De Vera. Top earned an Honourable Mention for his original song, “Static” as well as one of the three Judges’ Choice Award in the SYF Evolution Competition. Besides these accolades, Top and Cera also benefited from a mentoring session with professional musicians. Well done, Top and Cera!

EDUCATION & CAREER GUIDANCE (ECG) CHARACTER & CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION (CCE)

Education & Career Guidance

Our Education & Career Guidance (ECG) programme aims to equip Mayflowerians with the essential knowledge, skills and values for successful transition from school to further education and ultimately to a successful and fulfilling career. We hope to inculcate the students’ ability and drive to plan and manage their career pathways and adopt lifelong learning. These will prepare them for the world of work, equip them with the necessary skills to remain competitive and relevant in the global economy and above all, to lead meaningful and productive lives.

Through key programmes, learning journeys and work attachments, students are kept up to date with the evolving labour market and are prepared for future work opportunities. Close collaborations with various Junior Colleges, Polytechnics, Tertiary Institutions and multiple industry partners round off the comprehensive ECG support for our students.

Character & Citizenship Education

The goal of Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) is to inculcate values and build competencies in our students to help them grow to be Mayflowerians who are good individuals and useful citizens.

Our CCE curriculum adopts a future-oriented focus through the use of life experiences and stories as contexts for learning to prepare students for future responsibilities, and equip them to make wellconsidered decisions. Students learn the values of responsibility, respect, integrity, care and harmony through discussions, presentations and other learning experiences.

Being a satellite partnership school with Pathlight, our students are privileged to share common spaces with students with special needs. This year, our Secondary 4N students learnt about various pathways and courses in post-secondary institutions with their peers from Pathlight School, followed by a lunch reception of dialogues and sharing of their dreams and aspirations. This allowed students from both schools to interact closely and practise life skills such as communication and social etiquette.

Our students also get to experience life through a different lens with customised experiential learning activities meant to build empathy and awareness. Other key programmes such as commemoration of National Education Core Events, customised life skills workshops for graduating cohorts and level Values-InAction activities further complement their learning.

We recognise students who demonstrated exemplary behaviour and good character in their daily lives through the MF Character Award which is presented to nominated students twice a year.

National Education (NE) & Values-in-Action (VIA)

The committee hopes to nurture Mayflowerians into responsible citizens who understand the needs of the society and actively contribute to it. We also hope to develop students who are able to recognise, respect and embrace differences in others. The committee looks into planning and executing NE Commemorations and Values-In-Action (VIA) Level projects.

VIA Projects:

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

We are a team committed to providing level and customised support programmes to create a school environment where students are happy, engaged in learning and motivated to give their best.

Our Secondary 1 cohort had a great time at the Lifeskills Learning Festival in Term 2. They learnt social skills and social emotional competencies from their peers through skits, song and dance.

Secondary 2 students experienced new challenges during Camp Venture as they went beyond their comfort zone to bond with students from other classes.

We collaborated with the Education and Career Guidance arm of the Character and Citizenship Education committee in bringing the Secondary 3 cohort for industrial visits in Terms 2 and 3.

Our Secondary 4 and 5 students embarked on learning journeys to Universal Studios Singapore and local universities. We also marked the last day of their secondary school journey through the Graduation Ceremony in October.

This year, our team introduced Class Bonding Day. Students and teachers creatively came up with activities to strengthen class spirit.

35 awards were presented at the MF Bursary Award ceremony in January. We thank our partners in education (Alumni and Parents Support Group) and the Rotary Club Changi for their generosity in contributing to this pool of bursaries, ensuring that these students are not left behind in the pursuit of their dreams due to financial challenges. Students on financial assistance were also given opportunities to broaden their perspectives as buddies in the International Students and Permanent Resident (ISPR) programme.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

In preparing our student leaders to be future-ready citizens, we strive to equip them with both Leadership Understanding and Leadership Skills. Guided by the Kouzes and Posner Leadership Challenge Model, our training also aims to develop the students’ 21CC skills.

Platforms for our student leaders to hone their leadership skills include training sessions and planning of school events such as Class Bonding Day, Sec 1 Orientation and Sec 1 CCA Exhibition. Conferences and competitions also allow them to work with others, broaden their perspectives on national issues, challenge their personal opinions and get them to start thinking about what they can do for their community. We also conducted an overseas programme for our Sec 2 Student Councillors to provide them with the opportunity to interact with youths from other countries to broaden their international network.

This year, our student leader trainings also became an opportunity for our students to reflect on the definition of empathy and do a self-check of how empathetic they were in carrying out their duties.

It has been yet another fulfilling year. We hope to be the catalyst to our students’ development to becoming an active positive contributor to society.

DISCIPLINE

MAYFLOWER CCA GROUPS

“Do the right thing even when no one is looking.” The aim of the Discipline Committee is to develop our students into individuals with self-discipline, who will take responsibility for their actions without being reminded.

In Mayflower, discipline is not about blind obedience. It is about ownership, right thinking and responsible behavior. When students break the rules, they are given ownership of the problem and an opportunity to resolve it. We want to focus on the problem and not the students, to maintain their dignity and allow restoration through restitution. The school’s rules and regulations are based on this philosophy and this in turn helps inculcate school values.

This year, our Discipline Committee embarked on the GEAR-UP (Guiding & Empowering Students for Affiliation & Resilience to Unlock their Potential) Programme for identified students. The GEAR-UP Programme builds on the After-School Engagement (ASE) and Time-Out Programme, both of which have supported high-needs students since 2007. It is intended as a school-based integrated support programme to enhance students’ learning motivation, strengthen their school connectedness and build their resilience. GEAR-UP Programmes include activities such as Foosball and 3-on-3 Basketball competitions. A group of lower secondary students took part in the VR HADO interschool competition and emerged as overall champions!

A physical room for after-school engagement will be in full operation in Term 4 and it will be entirely run by our students. With this and a series of custom workshops planned for them, we hope to give this identified group of students a positive and meaningful school experience by equipping them with leadership and life skills.

In time, we hope to expand the scope and depth of the GEAR-UP programme to make it more inclusive.

MF Chinese Ensembles consists of three sections: Cello/Bass, Percussion and Plucking. Through them, members develop their music and leadership skills through participation in the various activities organised by the CCA throughout the year.

The CCA started the year by holding its annual Parents’ Nite performance for the parents and supporters of its members to showcase the CCA’s growth and development during the year. This was followed by an Exchange Programme with students from Maris Stella High School, Greenridge Secondary School and Nanyang Polytechnic in the lead-up to SYF.

This was followed by the CCA’s participation in the bi-annual Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation for the first time as an ensemble. The CCA is proud to announce that it has secured Distinctions in both the Chinese Orchestra (Mixed Ensemble) and Chinese Orchestra (Sectional Ensemble) sections.

Post-SYF, the CCA found time to relax through Roller-blading as part of their Sports Enrichment Programme. This is one of the highlights of the CCA as members get to participate in a sport beyond the scope of the performing arts. The CCA also attended the SCO Music Oasis 2019 – Our SINGapore Songs at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, Singapore Botanic Gardens as its annual Aesthetics Outing.

In addition, the CCA also set aside time to raise funds for the Kidney Dialysis Foundation (KDF) at their annual Flag Day and organising an Activity Day with the senior citizens at Thye Hwa Kuan Moral Charities’ Seniors Activities Centre in Ang Mo Kio. These activities are part of the CCA’s Values-in-action (VIA) programme and serve to foster a sense of civic-mindedness and care for the community in its students.

The MF Chinese Ensembles has had a busy but fruitful 2019 and looks eagerly forward to another rewarding year ahead.

2019 was exciting for the MFSS Choir as we took part in several events to stretch our abilities. First was the CCA Exhibition held in January. It gave our secondary 1 students time to ponder about which CCA they should join. Next was the Inauguration Concert titled Stars@Theatrette held in March. It welcomed our new choristers and served to thank the graduating batch for all they have done for the choir. It also showed the parents what their child has been up to since joining choir.

With mixed emotions of fear and excitement, the choir glammed up for SYF in April. The girls tied their hair back neatly while the boys put their suits on. This was a special year as we were the first choir to perform for SYF! Waiting anxiously backstage, we composed ourselves. Finally, the backstage doors flung opened and we walked confidently on stage and performed. All the hard work had paid off as we were awarded the Certificate of Distinction.

Before we could catch our breath, our choir was invited to perform at Bloom, a concert by Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, in aid of VIVA Foundation for Children with Cancer on 31 May and 1 June 2019.

In June 2019, our choir was given the honour to perform for the book launch: Pulau Ubin: Our Heart and Soul, written by our school’s SAC member, Mr. Seow Soon Hee. Last but not least, we are thrilled to be performing at Limelight, a public performance held at the Esplanade Concert Hall in November 2019.

It was indeed a meaningful year for the MFSS Choir.

Members spent countless hours working together with committed conductor and section tutors to up their performance standard. This award is indeed an achievement attained through determination and sacrifices of all our band members.

During the busy months of July and August, the concert band trained hard with the school’s speech day parade contingent comprising of members from the various uniform groups and put up a spectacular parade display at the school’s Speech Day cum National Day Celebration held on 8 August 2019. Because this is the first time the two events were combined, our members gave their heart and soul to make sure that all the songs were delivered with excellence, especially the National Athem and the various national day songs.

The Concert Band had our SEP shortly after National Day. All members benefitted in the training provided and enjoyed a wonderful session of Bowling together at Toa Payoh Safra.

With enthusiasm, our members have already commenced on their training for our year-end Concert with NIE Winds as well as for the school’s 2020 Musical.

Life would be dull without Band. From not knowing how to play anything on my trumpet, I am now playing scales and beautiful music. Beyond just music making, I learnt to be kind, compassionate, patient and more human. thank Band for all these and so shall do what can to show my gratefulness.

The Drama CCA gathers theatre enthusiasts and budding thespians who share the love for performing.

As part of the school’s Aesthetics niche programme, the CCA often contributes to the school’s celebrations for various occasions with thematic performances written and staged by the members with the help of the instructor and CCA teachers.

Core skills such as voice projection, articulation, script development and physical theatre are key to the club’s development of its members’ potential as performer and as an appreciative audience of theatre.

This year, the club developed an original script for the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation and received the Certificate of Accomplishment for the hard work and efforts of the members. Through rigorous practices, the members develop values like discipline, teamwork, resilience and commitment.

The VIA Project also saw the club giving back to the community while the members enjoyed the exposure to a one-man play, Emily of Emerald Hill, in the Aesthetics Outing and the engaging experience of learning archery in the Sports Elective Programme. The club aims to groom its members to become confident, expressive performers and open-minded appreciators of the Arts through a variety of learning activities and performing opportunities.

My CCA experience was filled with moments where we all practised and laughed together. It felt like a big family that learned and guided one another. It was always tough when we had performances to prepare for but we always pulled through and delivered with mutual encouragement and passion.

2019 is an exciting year for us as our dancers prepare for the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation. We are proud to share that we clinched the Certificate of Accomplishment! Members of Modern Dance had put in their upmost dedication and hard work since last year on their 2019 SYF. These past few months were a tough journey where our members faced numerous challenges. However, as a team we persevered and motivated one another to work towards our goal. This award is indeed an achievement attained through determination and sacrifices of our dancers.

Modern Dance had a 2-day camp in the school; where dancers had more opportunities to bond and interact with each other through activities planned by the main committee. In addition, different genre of dances were choreographed by dancers themselves and they had the chance to showcase to the rest of the members.

We aim to provide our dancers with a holistic development during their time with us. The Sports Education Programme (SEP) aims to advocate the importance of sports education, encourage sports participation in schools and increase sporting opportunities for the young. The programmes also promote team spirit and character building, and to arouse interest in continual sports participation amongst students. Modern Dance took part in Bowling SEP to create awareness and develop interest in the sport of Ten-pin Bowling through a series of fun and engaging activities and mini challenge in an enjoyable setting.

SYF was a great experience for me! It was tough for me as got injured and was not able to dance for a while. had to learn the dance in a short period of time upon recovery. We didn’t get the results that we wanted but like what every teacher said, it’s the journey that matters; not the results.

At Mayflower Basketball, our primary objective is to inculcate values to develop our students to be determined, resilient and fair individuals. Students are put through rigorous training as well as a myriad of drills to develop their individual skills.

Team drills and friendly matches then come into play when the students are preparing for their season. By the time the students graduate, they would have developed strong friendships with their peers due to the team work needed for the game.

The Mayflower Table Tennis is a dedicated and passionate team that always strives to play their utmost best in competitions, so as to bring glory to the school.Since basic fitness is essential, there are physical training sessions every Thursday.

Our CCA members are from diverse backgrounds. We bond during skills and physical trainings, and when we play against one another. Non-sports activities such as VIA at Willing Hearts and the senior graduation party has also gelled the team together.

The Mayflower Taekwondo Club is committed to mould our members to be highly disciplined and resilient.

Rigorous training sessions not only challenge the members physically but also toughen them mentally. This is a sport that imparts the values of humility, honesty, helpfulness and respect. We try to incorporate these values in our self-defense demonstrations during our Open House and CCA Exhibition.

Under the guidance of our coaches, Mr Brain Peh and Ms Evonne Kua and the leadership of Ricco Teo (4F) and Hoang Kim Phuong Ngoc (4J), we achieved 9 Gold, 7 Silver and 25 Bronze medals in the 2019 National Inter-school Taekwondo Championships.

This effort secured the team four national overall titles, namely 4th placing for the B Division Girls Poomsae, 4th placing (B Division Girls Kyorugi), 4th placing (B Division Boys Kyorugi) and a Second placing (C Division Girls Kyorugi).

Additionally, Peh Chong Yi Samuel (4E) was given the Sportmanship Award for being a positive influence and an inspiration to his teammates.

2019 was a fruitful year for the MF footballers. The Inter School National Football school games has changed its competition format. Schools are grouped into different tiers after playing a round robin in the first preliminary round. Our B Division Boys qualified for the League 5 tournament and went all the way to the Finals before an unfortunate loss at the end by a goal during extra time. Our C Division boys also did well, advancing to the quarter finals of the League 3 tournament.

The team also participated in external competitions such as Bayern Munich Youth Cup, Epson Youth Challenge Cup, Delta Football League, Bahru Cup and Temasek Youth Cup. In the Temesak Youth Cup, the C Division football boys managed to achieved 2nd placing in the under-14 category. losing narrowly 1-0 to JFS Kovan. The B Division also did well to garner a 4th placing in the Bahru Cup under-15 category with Gerard Yeo given the best player award for the team.

In all, it has been an unprecedented year for Mayflower Football and we hope that this year will be a springboard to greater things in the future.

Our CCA focuses on building a cohesive team spirit and developing each individual’s physical and mental skills. We have a wide variety of drills and practices that engages members. Through these drills, we are better able to work well with others on court and at the same time, foster bonds and create memories. We would usually end our trainings with a few rounds of court games for us to apply the drills that we have learnt.

We also take part in a few competitions yearly to gain more exposure and experience. When we come together to challenge ourselves through different situations we don’t just build bonds, we also develop resilience and determination.

EVENTS

The Mayflower Netball team takes part in the South Zone Inter-School Netball Championship, Deloitte Pesta Sukan and Sneakers competitions annually. This year, the ‘B’ Division team qualified for the second round in the South Zone Inter-School Games. They showed tenacity and courage when facing their opponents and made the team proud in their achievement.

In addition, we participated in Values in Action (VIA) programmes to foster bonds among the team members and enabled us to empathise with others who are in need. During the Chinese New Year celebration, we helped distribute oranges and gave out goodies to the elderly who came to our school to celebrate with us. We worked with Ang Mo Kio Methodist church, where we helped to run booths to raise funds for the needy.

The Boys’ Brigade in Mayflower Secondary was formed in 2005 and was named as 51st company in Singapore. It is sponsored by AMK Bethesda Hall.

The Boys’ Brigade had a fun and fruitful year in 2019. The company planned the programme for BB Cares and the company was able to bring the elderly from Ling Kwang Home for a picnic at a park nearby, playing games with them and performing for them in the programme finale.

Through their hard work and guidance from officers, our boys have achieved the Gold Award for the National Character Quest Competition in 2018, placing overall 12th in the competition. The company also achieved the Bronze Standard in the JM Fraser Award for the year 2018. In addition, two teams were sent for the National Adventure Quest Competition (BB Blaze) in 2018 and achieved the ‘Bronze’ Award.

One of the most exciting activities that has happened throughout the year is when we went to LKH. There were many memorable experiences at the old folks home such as performing in front of the elderly and playing games with the elderly. All in all, it was a wonderful experience.

During my time in Scouts, I have learned many things such as leadership, discipline and teamwork. The fondest memory of my cca was the National Patrol Camp which tested our knowledge and pushed our limits. Scouting has taught me more than anything and has shaped me into a better person and leader.

- Ng Kian Yan (3J)

Scouting is all about learning by doing and gaining experiences. Through activities such as building, exploration, hiking and community service, the scouts develop emotionally and physically and become better versions of themselves. 2019 is yet another exciting year for Mayflower Scouts. The scouts participated in numerous activities, competitions and camps and have forged lasting friendships. Also, this year we welcomed our first batch of Girl Scouts and they have proven to be as resilient as the boys!

In addition, Mayflower Scouts was recognised for its hard work and was awarded the Frank Cooper Sands Award (Gold). We would also like to congratulate Lee Wen Khai, Joshua for achieving the prestigious Chief Commissioner’s Award, conferred to the most outstanding scouts in recognition of their dedication and service to the Scouting movement.

This year, we are able to scale new heights because of the dedication of Scout Leaders, enthusiastic students and support from the school. Be prepared for more legacies to come!

Despite being a small company, Mayflower Girl Guides remains high spirited and continues to participate in events and projects enthusiastically. These activities often pertain to larger causes such as environmental conservation efforts, contributing to our communities and showing care and concern to the less fortunate through voluntary work. Through their participation, they learn to be civic-minded and socially-conscious individuals who are confident and compassionate leaders in their own ways.

For 2019, the Girl Guides participated in World Thinking Day and hosted the annual South Division Day for the second year, winning second place for both Knowledge of Guiding Competition and Costume Design Competition. The company was also honored by Girl Guides HQ with a Thanks plaque in recognition of the support and help the girls have given to HQ events.

The Girl Guides was awarded the Puan Noor Aishah Gold Award for 2019.

We had our annual camp where we bonded and accomplished our first outdoor cooking. Additionally, in preparation for the speech day celebration, we acquired values such as resilience and commitment as we worked hard for the parade. It was very inspiring to work together towards a common goal.

To me the camps that we have every year is the most memorable activity in CCA. The camps allow the members to bond and know more about one another. All the memories that we made together at the camps are very precious to me. After the camps, everyone became even closer as we grew closer through having fun and going through challenges together.

The NCC Training Curriculum is based on developing cadets to have mental resilience, physical fitness and a committed heart through school and NCC HQ activities.

One of our key programmes is the Precision Drill Squad (PDS) team. It provides cadets with the opportunity to showcase their dexterity and skill. They are also able to exercise their creativity through the choreography of the performance. In collaboration with NCC units from other schools, our cadets have the opportunity to interact and share their experiences with their peers during cluster training.

In NCC, students also get opportunities to learn valuable skills. The unit organises courses such as kayaking and events such as rock climbing and bouldering to expose our students to different sports. On top of these, our cadets have the opportunity to participate in the annual overseas trip organised by HQ NCC.

Finally, the CCA is proud to announce that it has attained the Distinction Award for the Unit Recognition in 2018.

NPCC is an organisation that firmly believes in development of character, leadership and resilience. Training has evolved from drills to real-world skills.

In Mayflower, we seek to provide authentic experiences to engage our cadets holistically. Apart from core activities like CSI, .22 revolver classification shoot, Adventure and Survival Camps in Pulau Ubin, we also design our in-house enrichment programmes.

Our cadets are exposed to many opportunities, from picking up defensive skills in Taekwondo to challenging their limits in rock climbing. Through this myriad of activities, we seek to become the best youth organisation in Singapore, one that actively helps to make Singapore the safest place in the world.

One invaluable learning point have gained is how to work better together in a team. By applying what I have learned, understand the importance of teamwork better hence will be able to work alongside my fellow squad mates better and make decisions more effectively.

A good leader motivates and inspires trust from his or her peers. Instead of ordering them what to do, a leader should do things together within the group. Firstly, Autocratic leadership is about making decisions independently. Secondly, Bureaucratic leadership is about following a set of rules. Thirdly, Charismatic leadership is based on personality. Lastly, Democratic leadership is by offering guidance or solutions to group members by encouraging peers to participate or to continue the activity. This helps the group members to be more engaged in the activity.

We aim to inculcate the values and skills to be an entrepreneur as well as develop qualities to be creative and visionary students who are able to plan ahead.

The Mayflower Enterprise Club has a well-integrated co-curricular programme that promotes life-skills, character building, and leadership qualities. At the end of four years, we hope to see our students as creative individuals who are well-equipped entrepreneurs of good character.

Students learn to manage funds wisely through events or selling of their own products during CCA duty. In Enterprise Club, we believe that our students will demonstrate creativity and initiative in every aspect and without fear to seize opportunities in future.

9 students were sent to learn more about drafting ideas, writing a business plan, as well as pitching their ideas. This competition lasted 3 months and students were to present their ideas to a board of entrepreneurs.

2019 Polymer Clay workshop Visited Tinkle Art, a small studio in MINDS, where they employ people with special needs. They learnt more about this social enterprise as well as Polymer Clay making.

2019 Elevator Pitch Students went for an Elevator Pitch course held by NEBO where students were able to write their own Elevator pitch and present in front of an audience.

The Infocomm Club organised a number of workshops in 2019 to expose our members to new and current technology and skill-sets used in many industries today.

Through the Web Design Workshop, members were to create and design their own website by learning the fundamentals of coding and its applications. Members enjoyed this workshop as they were able to express their creativity and personal interests through their customised websites.

The use of drones is becoming increasingly common for both recreation and industrial use. As such, members had the chance to work in teams to learn to operate drones to capture a variety of video and photo angles. Through this Drones Workshop, they learnt the basics of controlling the drone, how to select the best angles for different purposes as well as how to fly through obstacles seamlessly. This workshop also provided a platform for members to build on their communication skills as they needed to work effectively in teams.

I enjoyed the robotics workshop as have never done robotics before and I found it very fun. The most memorable experience was going to other schools for a drone competition as we had to compete with other people from other schools to see who did the best.

-

A Robotics Workshop was one of the highlights of the year. Members worked in teams to build, control and challenge their robots. Through the workshop, they learnt to use programming tools and honed the skill of putting together the hardware of the robot.

Their design acumen, attention to detail and ability to control their robot was put to the test when they challenged their robots to complete challenges ranging from simple tasks such as transporting a block from one point to another to beating other teams’ robots in a sumo-style match.

The highlight of the year was our annual Sports Education Programme (SEP). This year, members of the Infocomm Club played touch rugby for their SEP. Through this platform, they were able to get to know each other better, learn new skills as well as discover their own strengths. Many of them found that the experience exceeded their expectations of themselves and thus helped them to grow more confident in facing challenges in the future.

found the SEP very fun and engaging as we got the chance to bond with our cca mates through sports which we are usually not able to do. enjoyed the robotics programme as we got to use our creativity to build anything we wanted and not follow instructions which is unlike the other courses we had.

CCA REFLECTIONS CCA REFLECTIONS

One activity that I enjoyed in the Boys Brigade is adventure quest. It was intense as you have to complete certain tasks all across Singapore. From Clarke Quay to Fort Canning hill. This activity helped us bond and get together, putting our differences aside to overcome challenges.

My favourite memories was creating an advertisement about a unique festival like La Tomatina or The Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. We had to advertise the festival. Another time we had to write a parody of a song on random topics and had to sing it.

I enjoyed my time here during CCA and made many new friends. CCA has taught me to be more disciplined. I am also happy that was given many opportunities to participate in many competitions. Thank you teachers and teammates for the wonderful experience in the CCA.

My most memorable moment in Scouts was a 2 day 1 night hike. It was the time when truly bonded with my CCA mates. We went through highs and lows as we hiked across Singapore. It really gave us a lot of time to talk and share our experiences in scouting.

One of the most memorable NCC activities I participated in was CUG VIA Trip to Pattaya, Thailand. We learnt about their local customs and forged many valuable memories. will not forget all the wonderful memories!

My most memorable event would be trekking up Mount Ophir, Malaysia. It was a challenge for me both physically and mentally. With the encouragement from my peers, we were able to scale the peak. Overall, NCC provided me with many opportunities to learn and grow to be a better person.

My Journey in Netball CCA have been paved with highs and lows and filled with many precious moments. The presence of our seniors, juniors, and most importantly, my peers have made the whole experience wonderful. The treasured memories with all my teammates will definitely be carved deeply in my heart.

Netball has taught me the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork and perseverance. Through the time shared during CCA trainings and competitions, the team has built strong bonds and friendship that we will keep us connected even after graduation. am thankful for the Mayflower netball family.

Reflection after Bloom: We should be ready as we never know what could happen. We need to take good care of ourselves by getting enough rest as during a performance we really need to be at our very best. We should also behave as we need to set a good example for others.

Table Tennis is the best CCA because we treat each other well. VIA and competitions have brought us closer which enrich the time we spend training.

The most memorable moment was the National Schools Games. The tension in the air and the competitive spirits of everyone was simply exhilarating! We came out of the competition learning many skills from better players and our friendships deepened.

Taekwondo has provided me with a lot of learning opportunities from my coaches, seniors, teammates as well as my teachers. Training can be very tough especially before the lead up to the competitions. This has pushed me to persevere and strive to be a better athlete, leader and most importantly a better person.

One of my most memorable CCA moment at Enterprise Club was the time when we had our CCA camp. We had a lot of fun and bonded as a CCA through this activity as we learned more about each other through the activities.

Refection after SYF: From this experience, have learnt many things, such as to persevere, to be diligent and to be focused. However, the most important thing have learnt is to have faith in myself and my friends. have to trust my fellow members and trust that they will in turn watch my back.

was very nervous when started training. wanted to learn self-defense and my friends from other schools suggested Taekwondo. The CCA has changed me in many ways. am no longer afraid of taking up challenges or doing things I am not familiar with. I strive to do better myself everyday.

CCA sessions are always joyful times for me. have learned many important values such as discipline and resilience. It also motivates me to push over my limits. It was a great honour when we finally managed to qualify for the League 5 finals this year.

My experience as a member and leader of Mayflower Bowling has been a great one for the past 1 year. Being a Captain of the Bowling team means that have been entrusted by the teachers, students and coaches to be a good role model to my juniors and ensure the well-being of all the team members.

-

had the best and fun team mates. like the fact that we endured the tough training together as a team. We bonded well and enjoyed each other’s company.

shared many beautiful memories with the members and I’ll treasure them forever. From the aesthetic outing to the SYF preparations, these are surely invaluable experiences that I’ll never forget. Drama truly enables me to understand other perspectives and helps me develop greater sensitivity.

I enjoyed our CCA camp a lot as got to bond more with the sec ones and talked to them more. I felt that had more fun this year compared to last year during the dance off segment and am more confident and not as shy as before. Overall, really enjoyed this year’s camp and missed it so much.

Having been in a primary school band, I had difficulties changing the way play to align to secondary school styles. was also awfully shy and kept to myself. However, in Band, learnt never to give up, whatever the outcome, and grew. am now a proficient Euphonium player and a Band Major.

Bowling is a sports that enjoy doing. still remember how our team were bowling well together during the B division competition. We were encouraging and motivating each other while other members were cheering behind us.

Basketball is a challenging CCA which pushes me beyond my limits. It is tough physically but we all become fitter and stronger as time goes by. It has been an enjoyable experience.
