Upper Knockbreda is within the Cregagh area of Belfast. The road was completed in 1967 and linked Cregagh with the Knock area on the outskirts of Belfast
The area is steeped in history from the first and second World Wars. Alanbrooke Street and Montgomery Street are named after Second World War Generals and Picardy Street and Hamel Street are named after First World War battlefields. The Cregagh area was chosen for a significant number of ex-servicemen's homes due to the number of fatalities of war who were from the locality. In the 1920's, David Lloyd George built 150 "homes for heros" in this exact area.
This property dates back to this era when families employed staff in their houses to do everyday tasks such as preparing and serving meals and maintaining the upkeep of the house.
