ADVENTURE CONNECTIONS

Adventures

Located alongside one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, CSUMB offers easy access to spectacular mountains, deserts, and nearby parks for exploration and adventure. Ideal for sailing, kayaking, surfing, and dive programs, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary also offers endless opportunities for observation of marine life including whales, seals, and our mascot, the sea otter. The campus occupies only about five percent of the Fort Ord land once owned by the U.S. Army with most remaining undeveloped, which allows for backcountry biking and hiking on nearby BLM land. On our Free Friday hikes, we explore Big Sur and Los Padres National Forest or the many regional parks inland, down the coast, or around Santa Cruz. Weekend adventures are scheduled to take you on different types of experiences, from land to sea. This is a paradise for nature lovers and adventurers, and we invite you to join us as we explore all that CSUMB and the surrounding area has to offer.

CALENDAR

Check our calendar for weekly updates on our outdoor adventures. These include our Free Friday Hike series, designed to acquaint you with new areas and friends, our Wednesday bike rides, and week-end outings for a day or the entire weekend. Calendar is subject to change and is dependent on weather conditions.

Signup Information

Signups are on a first-come, first-served basis. Because trips may fill quickly, we encourage you to register early. If a trip is filled, you may put your name on a waiting list. Trips often have at least one cancellation, so put your name on the waiting list and keep checking back.

Cycling

Green and fun! The Student Bike Center has a fleet of new bicycles from introductory off-road bikes to cruisers, to get you around campus and off on adventures. Our campus is ideally located near a vast expanse of BLM trails, a long scenic coastline path and nearby towns, all accessible by bike. Rent for the day, semester, or anything in between, but get out there and ride! The Student Bike Center also has a repair shop with a bike technician on scheduled visits, at discounted rates to members of the cycle coop or hourly rates to non-members. Additionally, we will be offering classes in Smart Cycling Basics, Smart Cycling in Traffic, On The Road Bike Training, and basic bicycle maintenance. Stop by the Student Bike Center to learn more about our bike rentals, repairs, classes and scheduled events.

Boating

Always wanted to learn how to sail, improve your skills or compete? Here’s your chance on the beautiful Monterey Bay Sanctuary. The CSUMB Boating Program offers a wide variety of boating opportunities on vessels ranging from dinghies to keelboats. Take a class, join the sailing team, or contact us for an individual lesson or weekend adventure.
