LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Industry Colleagues & Friends, This year marks the 35th annual International Licensing Awards, designed to recognize and celebrate the innovation and accomplishment of our colleagues. While we had looked forward to celebrating in person at Licensing Expo, we instead find ourselves gathering remotely from all over the world due to the global Coronavirus pandemic. It’s not what we had planned, but as all of us have and continue to do, we are adapting to our changing circumstances with as much grace and fortitude as possible, which includes maintaining our long-standing tradition of recognizing the amazing, breakthrough work that takes place in our business. As many of you know, we started 2020 as a strong, productive and profitable industry. Collectively, we grew by 4.5 percent in 2019, the largest year-over-year percentage increase for the business. This fact should give us all confidence in a successful rebound as the world economy works its way out of the shockwave that interrupted commerce for all but essential goods. Not least because, even in the wake of uncertainty, the power of trusted brands and well-known licenses is more critical than ever before. Today, we honor the impact of our business by awarding 23 organizations with the industry’s most prestigious award. We also recognize the incredible slate of nominees this year, who were selected from more than 600 entries from around the globe. We thank Marshall Mizrahi of Handcraft for hosting our first-ever virtual awards, which also includes the official induction of the legendary Martha Stewart into the Licensing Hall of Fame, plus a celebration of this year’s Rising Stars. And finally, since there’s nothing more important than the support of community during difficult times, we are proud to share that as of publication, $109,300 has been raised through direct donations and ads in this Awards Program, which will be put towards grants available to small businesses in the licensing industry impacted by COVID-19. Congratulations to the 2020 honorees – we hope to see you all, and the rest of our tight-knit licensing community, very soon. Maura Regan President Licensing International

LICENSING INTERNATIONAL AROUND THE WORLD As this year’s slate of finalists suggests, licensing truly is an international endeavor, reaching across borders and languages. And even though the world has been turned on its head this year, our mission at Licensing International remains the same – to foster the connections and dialogue that will help the licensing industry grow and thrive. The way we do that just looks a bit different these days…

Hard to believe now, but just this last November professionals in Germany gathered for their regional Awards event, where Paw Patrol won Property of the Year and Katarina Dietrich was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Juxtapose that with the recent German Day of Licensing earlier in July – quite a different scene but still a hugely successful gathering, this time virtual, for executives in Deutschland.

Congratulations, Martha! Marquee Brands wishes to congratulate our very own, Martha Stewart. You inspire us all to live beautifully and never stop learning.

THE JUDGING PROCESS

This year, more than 600 entries were received from companies in 22 countries. A panel of 152 executives hailing from 20 nations around the globe then winnowed that group down to our final slate of 175 nominees, at which point the Licensing International membership was able to weigh in. Winners will be awarded in 23 categories, including a new category this year – Best Agency. The judges – who were nominated by Licensing International Managing Directors and Reps around the world – had several weeks to review entries in each of the categories they were assigned. Category assignments are designed to minimize biased voting. For example, judges from the retail sector voted on the Product and Brand categories (but not the retail categories, of course). The nominees – or finalists – in each category were determined by the cumulative score of all judges of that category.

The Licensing International membership then weighed in, with a global vote of the finalists to help determine the winner of each category. A special thank you to all the dedicated executives who spent their time and energy judging this year’s awards – your hard work and dedication is what makes our industry great.

The Licensing International Excellence Awards truly are one of the most prestigious, and the global honors in our industry. Congratulations are due not just to the winners today, but to all the nominees, who set the bar for excellence in the years to come.

NEW TROPHIES FOR A NEW DECADE After five years with the now-retired “Skyscraper” trophy, this year we debut new trophy designs for both the Awards and the Hall of Fame. The winning designs were selected from nearly a dozen submissions after an industry-wide call to help us redefine the physical embodiment of our industry’s highest honor. Here’s a little bit more about the winning designs and the artists who created them.

HALL OF FAME TROPHY

About PowerStation Studios

Designed by PowerStation Studios

PowerStation Studios is a leading creative agency within the licensing industry, specializing in helping brands to maximize the value of their IP. We partner with the world’s top companies within gaming, entertainment and lifestyle every day, to provide trend-led creative with commercial thinking always delivering a wow that sells.

About the Design With a modern, minimal design that frames the Licensing International X icon in etched glass, the new Hall of Fame award is laminated between eco-conscious concrete. The dual-material design offers a contrast for both tactility and visual interest. Inspired by architectural, sculptural and interiors trends (fitting for this year’s honoree, Martha Stewart), this trophy is meant to serve as a piece of sculptural art. The use of mixed media gives the flexibility to easily update the design in future years to use different materials or fabrication techniques.

“We are so thrilled to have our design chosen, and we couldn’t be more excited to see our trophy in the hands of the elite, Licensing International Hall of Fame winners. Congratulations Martha Stewart! You are a powerhouse within the licensing industry and we look forward to watching your continued success. Thank you also for teaching us how to make the perfect roast chicken!” 14

AWARDS TROPHY

About Alternatives

Designed by Alternatives

Alternatives is a team of multi-talented, creative people who are strategic thinkers, entrepreneurial by nature and greatly respect the power of brand in commerce. Since the beginning we have always worked to create strong and genuine connections with the brands that we work with and their target audiences. We’ve learned that by creating opportunities for people to love and respect the brands, the brand becomes part of their lifestyle and identity. We feel fortunate that work from the licensing industry, such as brand ideation and extensions, style guides, branding systems and repositioning, is integral to our office and the creative work that we do.

About the Design – ‘The Pinnacle’ The Pinnacle honors the transition into a new era for the licensing industry, paying homage to the previous “Skyscraper” award, which was inspired by the Empire State Building, the pinnacle of the New York City skyline and home to Licensing International’s U.S. Headquarters. This new interpretation is meant to expand that ethos with a design that more universally reflects our global industry. Alternatives worked with the fine craftsmanship of metalsmiths, acrylic artisans and screen-printing artists to create the trophy, which is fabricated in precision laser cut, hand-polished stainless steel and hand-cut and polished, solid cast, clear acrylic. The design was informed by the one of the key concepts in licensing – that brands reflect our culture and create deeper meaning in our lives beyond the core product or property. The combination of the solid clear block, enveloped in stainless steel, symbolizes the possibilities when imagination is applied and new ideas are brought to light to reflect the brand – both parts reflect on each other and become one.

“Alternatives has been fortunate to work with many amazing brands, agencies and manufacturers who are integral to the licensing industry, many of whom have won these awards over the years for work that we were grateful to be a part of. For us, having our design selected is an opportunity for us to say thank you to everyone we've had the honor of working with in this industry. This year's winners are an amazing group of deserving people, companies and brands who raise the bar for the industry and we are humbled to think that the award that you deserve, and we helped create, will find a home in your company!” Above: Julie Koch-Beinke, Partner, Alternatives. INDUSTRY HELPING INDUSTRY The Licensing International Small Business Global Grants Fund $109,300 Already Raised! Small businesses are the foundation of our communities, our economy and the lifeblood of Licensing International (59% of our membership are small businesses.) That’s why in July, Licensing International proudly launched the Small Business Global Grants Fund, designed to help small businesses in the brand licensing sector that are struggling during the COVID-19 outbreak. The new Global Grants Fund will provide $5,000 grants (in local currency) to as many small employers internationally as possible to create and maintain safe, healthy and sustainable work environments in response to the global pandemic. The program is being funded by donations made to Licensing International’s Foundation arm in a collective effort among the leaders in our industry to support and strengthen the

global brand licensing community. In fact, each of the companies that have taken space in this very Awards Program are among the biggest donors to the Global Grants Fund, with all proceeds from these promotional spots going directly to the Fund. A number of other companies and individuals have also made generous, direct contributions to the Fund, which has so far collected a total of more than $100,000! Small businesses in the brand licensing industry that employ between 3 and 20 people and have been harmed financially by the COVID-19 pandemic have until September 15, 2020 to apply for a grant, and grants will be awarded by September 30, 2020. The Global Grants Fund would not be possible without the drive and commitment of the members of the Licensing International Foundation Board and the Licensing International Fundraising Committee. We thank them for their dedication to this important cause!

“If recent events have taught us anything, it’s how absolutely vital community is. The central idea behind the Licensing International Small Business Global Grants fund is industry supporting industry – our hope is that these supplemental funds will give businesses in need a boost to get through the next days and weeks so that the licensing community as a whole emerges from this global crisis stronger and even more united.” 26 16

Allison Cimino, CEO & Designer, RockLove

20 26

Based in New York City One look is all it takes to see that Allison Cimino has a distinctive sense of style. From an early age, she was rebellious in her fashion, in addition to making and wearing a nearly comical amount of jewelry – strong choices for her upbringing in conservative St. Louis, Missouri. She started her own accessories line, RockLove, in 2007. Equal parts artist and entrepreneur,

Allison’s line melds her love of storytelling with her keen eye for the marketplace. It was not, however, until CBS called upon Allison to create a line of Star Trek jewelry in 2014 (a passion project of hers, having been a Trekkie since age seven) that she was propelled into the current licensing deals that have brought RockLove center stage. With an ever-expanding repertoire of franchises, RockLove honors these beloved properties through sophisticated and clever design, with authenticity and artistic integrity as the foundation of the brand – a cornerstone, since Allison only creates collections for which she is personally a fan.

Carolina Garcia Souza, Senior Category Manager, Stationery, Home & FHBP, Cinecolor Colombia, representative of The Walt Disney Company Based in Bogota, Colombia Carolina Garcia Souza joined Cinecolor in June 2020, but it was under her previous role as Senior Account Manager of Universal Studios for Tycoon Colombia that she was submitted and selected as a 2020 Rising Star. She held her role at Tycoon for 5 years until May 2020, during which time she was named Salesperson of the Year by Universal Studios in 2019. The Colombianborn fashion designer started her career by launching her own handbag label in her very early ‘20s. It was through travelling the world doing trade shows and building her own brand, that she discovered her passion for brands and sales.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE Martha Stewart is the Founder of the first multi-channel lifestyle company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, an Emmy Award-winning television show host, entrepreneur, bestselling author of over 96 books, and trusted lifestyle expert and teacher, relied upon by millions for useful “how-to” information for all aspects of everyday living – cooking, entertaining, gardening, home renovating, collecting, organizing, crafting, healthy living, holidays, weddings, and pet care. The Martha Stewart brand reaches approximately 100 million consumers across its various media and merchandising platforms each month and her branded products can be found in over 70 million households and have a growing retail presence in thousands of locations.

Martha Stewart, Founder, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Martha Stewart was one of the pioneers of the modern licensing model, beginning with her trailblazing direct-to-retail deal with Kmart in the late ’90s, after she founded her company Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in 1996. Martha recognized immediately that her passionate base of readers and viewers would translate to consumers in search of trustworthy products. Over the last two decades those products have touched almost every category from fashion to food, craft paint to pet products, and even expanding into media, with the licensing of Martha’s eponymous magazine to Meredith. Partnerships include major retailers such as Macy’s,

24

Staples, Michaels, TJX Companies, and QVC. In 2019, Marquee Brands acquired the company with a renewed focus on media, lifestyle products and a foray into food and beverage. Most recently the brand launched a robust shop on Wayfair including various product categories, announced plans to develop branded real estate communities in markets around the globe, and partnered with Canopy Growth on the development of a branded line of pet and human CBD products to be released later this year. Martha continues to innovate, launching a new series, Martha Knows Best, on HGTV this month. The home-focused series was filmed under quarantine and shares her guidance on the new way of “living” during COVID. She is

proud to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Martha Stewart Living magazine this year. “I am very honored to be inducted into the Licensing International Hall of Fame. I have spent my life creating carefully researched and well-written and illustrated content for the homemakers of the world and practical, functional, and innovative products offered at affordable prices to enhance one’s lifestyle and home,” says Martha Stewart. “I look forward to sharing more of the expertise we have developed over the years and to expanding our media and product categories and distribution worldwide.”
