The very first thing to do is to thank you all for joining us in celebrating the housewares industry for an incredible quarter of a century. Without your entries, sponsorship, judging and attendance each year at this event, we simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do and make this evening the best night out in the housewares calendar.
There’s so much to celebrate this evening: products which have made consumers’ lives in homes around the world easier throughout the past 12 months, as well as those that have stood the test of time, becoming icons in the sector. We also celebrate a new category of products –Made in Britain – for those suppliers who champion UK manufacturing.
As well as the products, we identify suppliers who have gone the extra mile in their efforts across marketing, product development and service.
We will recognise retailers across all categories - the lifeblood of our industry who make it their business to know the products inside out, to provide first class customer experiences and to present products in memorable ways.
And of course, there will be time to honour a few individuals who have made
outstanding achievements throughout their years in housewares.
This evening would not be possible without our wonderful sponsors, so we’d like to extend our huge thanks to them for supporting the event.
Each year, as part of our partnership with the Global Innovation Awards (gia), organised by the International Housewares Association and The Inspired Home Show, one retailer wins a trip to Chicago to represent the UK in the international celebration of housewares retailers next March.
We are delighted to be joined by industry associations, BHETA and BIRA, as well as industry charity, The Rainy Day Trust. Thank you to all companies who have kindly donated raffle prizes, the proceeds of which will go to support the Rainy Day Trust and licensing industry charity, The Light Fund. Without further ado, let’s get stuck in and find out who will be crowned as our 2025 winners – the Progressive Housewares team is excited to celebrate with your all tonight. Have a fantastic evening.
Katie Roberts-Mason and the Excellence in Housewares Awards team: Rob Willis, Carly Willis, Jo Pilcher and Mark Grayson.
A warm welcome to a very special Excellence in Housewares Awards this evening – as we mark the 25th anniversary of our industry awards. It’s a great honour for Progressive Housewares to invite you all to join us in celebration of the housewares industry in its entirety and to join you all in commemorating another wonderful year.
Returning for her second stint as the Excellence in Housewares Awards host, Sara Barron is one of the fastest-rising comedians of her generation. Since her 2018 debut at the Edinburgh Fringe, she’s starred on shows including Live at the Apollo, Would I Lie to You? and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order.
A powerhouse live act, Sara has taken four critically-acclaimed stand-up hours, For Worse (2018), Enemies Closer (2019), Hard Feelings (2022) and Anything For You (2024) to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and had multiple runs in London’s Soho Theatre. Her shows have received rave reviews from publications including The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, The Evening Standard and The Scotsman and she was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.
Sara co-created the smash-hit Succession recap podcast. The podcast then continued under a new mantle, They Like to Watch, a weekly TV discussion show.
Sara’s further television credits include 8 Out of 10 Cats, Hypothetical, Richard Osman’s House of Games, Alan Davies’ As Yet Untitled, Roast Battle and Hello, America. On radio, her credits include appearances on The News Quiz, The Now Show, and Woman’s Hour. As a writer, Sara has published two essay collections, People are Unappealing and The Harm in Asking and her writing has also featured in Vanity Fair and on This American Life.
Entry to the awards is free of charge across all categories, giving an even playing field for suppliers and retailers to nominate and be nominated for with no barrier. The awards are split into three areas: product categories – based on new or updated product in the 12 months from June 2024 to June 2025; the retail awards, again based upon retailers’ activities over that 12 month period; and the special awards spanning marketing, product development and service. Plus, of course, the outstanding achievement award, based upon the strength of nominations and judged on individual merit.
Online judging for the product categories allows for a greater number and wider spread of judges from across the UK. Products are also entered online and 2025 saw a boost in the number of entries across all categories, as well as the new category for this year – Made in Britain, honouring those companies working tirelessly to champion British manufacturing in the housewares sector.
Product categories are judged by retail buyers – they are, after all, the experts as those facing consumers on a daily basis. This year’s panel included parties from John Lewis, Tesco, Harrods, Fenwick, Morleys, Harts of Stur,
The retail categories are open for both self-nomination from retailers and nomination from suppliers. Progressive Housewares canvasses extensively for these votes in the months leading up to the judging, culminating in over 200 nominations across all categories, with over 500 individual votes across the slate.
From there, a shortlist is formed and published to the industry, before a high-profile judging panel assembles to decide the winners of each category by way of debate and democracy.
The panel was chaired by the Progressive Housewares team (who do not vote), with the formal committee comprising of: Craig Antcliffe – Victorinox, Claire Budgen – Lifetime Brands, Seema Grantham – BHETA, Tom Harmer – DK Household Brands, Rob Jones – Horwood, Jason Kirk – Burton McCall, George Mann – Le Creuset, Simon Oliver – RKW/Tower, Sally
Owens – Meyer, Joe Stadler – Mepal, Jenny Stewart – Ultimate Products, Raven Sprague – Pure Tabletop, Brian Walmsley –EKO.
Retailers were overjoyed upon receiving the news of their finalist’s position, including Helen Miller, buyer, Fenwick, who commented: “It is always an honour to be nominated, but to be a finalist, having been selected from lots of entries, is absolutely amazing. Thank you, judges.”
Independent retailers are often buoyed by the news, which provides a boost for the whole team. Paul Venediger, coowner, The Woodbridge Kitchen Company, said: “It is a terrific accolade to be considered for Best Independent Cookshop and Excellence in Retail Display in the same year and I’ll be sure to share this with our teams in Woodbridge and Aldeburgh as everyone contributes to make these nominations happen. I’m sure they’ll all be as pleased as Kirsteen and I are.”
Borough Kitchen, Salamander Cookshop, Potters Cookshop, Divertimenti, Dunelm, Currys, B&Q, Lawsons, Garsons, Blue Diamond, Trevor Mottram, Aldiss, Hargreaves & Sons, AIS Stores as well as a full slate of specialist independent retailers from across the country. Being named as a finalist is a huge accolade for a supplier, to recognise their constant hard work in bringing the best
ranges to retail throughout the year. Jim Clawley, managing director, Eurosonic told housewaresnews.net: “The Excellence in Housewares are such a well respected awards within the industry, as is illustrated by the organisers celebrating 25 years in 2025. It’s fantastic to be a finalist in a celebratory year for the awards and we’re hoping to be celebrating with them at the event.”
Allowing the Excellence In Housewares Awards to remain free to enter, impartial and of the utmost standard of validation is only possible thanks to the sponsors who dedicate financial investment as well as time both in person, but also with ongoing advice and input to the PH Team. This year’s sponsors include: Ambiente, Beldray, BHETA, Bira Direct, Burton McCall, Cole & Mason, DK Household Brands, Dreamfarm, Dualit, EKO, Exclusively Show, Exposé Travel, Gastroback, Home, Life & You, Horwood Homewares, Inspired Home Show, Joseph Joseph, Kleine Wolke, Le Creuset, Lifetime Brands, Mepal, Meyer, Nivtar, Pink Key Licensing, Products Of Change, RKW, Salter, SMEG, Source Home & Gift, Spring Fair & Autumn Fair, Tower Housewares, Victorinox, Ultimate Products.
This special award is judged by the aforementioned retailers, before going on to a secondary panel of highly experienced housewares buyers whose tenure exceeds a combined total of over 200 years. This award, as such, really remains iconic given the strength the product in question must possess in order to receive recognition from industry stalwarts who will not be swayed.
Equally, being recognised in this category means everything to the finalists, as outlined by Simon Oliver, commercial director, RKW: “To be recognised in an award category that champions longevity and cultural significance means a great deal to all of us at RKW and Wade. The Fish Jug has long been a staple in British homes and it’s incredibly rewarding to see its charm and character still being celebrated after all these years.”

The Light Fund, set up in 2004, is an industry-wide registered charity for the housewares, greetings, licensing and gifts sectors. It is run on a voluntary basis by those in the industry.
Since its inception, The Light Fund has raised over £2 million and funded well over 200 charity projects helping men, women and children less fortunate than ourselves, all over the world.
The Rainy Day Trust is the only charity which exists solely to help hundreds of people who work or have worked in the UK’s housewares and home improvement industry. It needs our help to reach over 30% more beneficiaries this year. This winter, the Trust will be providing lifelines with its winter fuel packages.
