Talking of new destinations, all of us at SalamAir are thrilled to announce that we are set to start operations to Chattogram (Chittagong), Bangladesh’s second-largest city. Starting October 7, 2019, SalamAir will fly four times a week to Chattogram (Chittagong) on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday departing Muscat at 13:55 local time. It may be Egypt’s “second” city, but it’s easy to forget that when strolling through Alexandria – at least when considering the sheer number of the world’s great empires that’ve left their mark at one point or another. There were the Greeks. The Romans. The Ottomans. Napoleon and the French. The British. The list really could go on for some time. And it was home to the Lighthouse of Alexandria (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), and one of the planet’s most important libraries (at a time when libraries, with their repository of knowledge, were something people fought battles over since often their collections were one-of-a-kind). But that was all way back then. Today, Alexandria is a bustling, modern metropolis where the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean meet the roaring

Right near the sea, Montazah Palace is truly a sight to behold. While it may look old, it actually only dates back to 1892. A favoured residence of modern Egyptian presidents, be sure to walk through its expansive gardens to take in the pleasant sights – and equally pleasant smells of all the flowers. Also along the sea (though a bit far to walk – it’s best to take a taxi or public transport) is another jewel of the Eastern Mediterranean: the magnificent Qaitbay Citadel. Built as a fortress during the

Alexandria is a bustling, modern metropolis where the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean meet the roaring Nile 14th century to defend Alexandria from the advances of the Ottoman Empire, today it houses a small naval museum. For museum stops, the Alexandria National Museum housed in a restored Italian palace that has 1800 artifacts from the Hellenistic period and the Royal Jewelry Museum, the former palace of the Egyptian royal family, where you can learn about the royal family history are good stops.

The beans are cooked with a specific way and is a must try. Make sure to visit the local Fish Market. You can buy or simply enjoy the spectacle of the sale of freshly caught fish. There are a variety of fish preparations, shrimps, calamari dishes that are a must try. Also sample one of the best ice creams here locally called Gelati that can be teamed with honey and rice pudding.

The star attraction in Musandam are the ‘Dhow Cruises’ along the Strait of Hormuz and Khor ash-Sham In recent years, Musandam, an exclave of Northern Oman, has emerged as a major tourist hub, with over 300,000 tourists visiting it in 2018. Nestled amidst the blue waters of the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Gulf with its rocky headland jutting into the Strait of Hormuz, the Musandam Peninsula is a labyrinth of impressive fjords (khors), steep mountain cliffs and picturesque small villages on the mountain tops and along the fjords. Hence, this region is aptly sobriqueted as the ‘Norway of Arabia’. The Musandam Peninsula’s remarkable topography of the towering Al Hajar Mountains, dotted with fossils and petroglyphs, blending below with crystal-clear waters of the Gulf yield spectacular views and alluring attractions making the peninsula a perfect destination for nature-lovers, adventure-enthusiasts, history-buffs and geologists alike.

The main tourist towns of the Musandam Governorate are Khasab, Bukha and Dibba; each of which offers a myriad of attractions, be it in the form of unspoiled beaches, amazing sceneries, forts and a host of recreational activities, including cruising, diving, snorkelling, parasailing, kite surfing and deep water soloing. Khasab, the capital of Musandam, being well-connected by land, sea and air routes, serves as a perfect base for tourists going on boat cruises along the fjord Khor-as-Sham or further to Kumzar town as well as for mountain safaris up the mighty Jabel Hareem. The Khasab Castle, with its in-house museum, and the Bukha Fort are popular tourist spots. The eastern port town of Dibba is renowned for its surreal beaches and unique White Sea caves; though the Bassah beach and Khasab beach are also tourist hotspots.

Adventure-seekers and thrill-seekers enjoy hiking and trekking in the Ru’usal-Jabal mountain of Musandam with camping at Jebel Hareem, it’s highest peak is a favourite of many. The four wheel drive across the mountains and through the wadis is an exhilarating experience for one and all. Also a drive to the fjord, Khor an Najd, is a must to feast upon one of the most stunning and classic vista of Musandam, which is often used for its tourist campaigns. The sightseeing places of ancient settlements, pre-historic tombs, Jabel Hareem’s fossils and petroglyphs are crowd pullers along with the unique traditional storage building ‘Bait al Qufl’, prevalent in almost all the mountain villages. However, the star attraction in Musandam are the ‘Dhow Cruises’ along the Strait of Hormuz and along its largest fjord, Khor ash-Sham. These traditional boat rides are a treat for all unfolding breathtaking sparkling coastline with rocky islands, pretty small fishing villages and distinctive rock formations coupled with rich and varied marine life, including Humpback dolphins or Bottlenose dolphins, groupers, varied coral growth and various birds, especially Cormorants. The highlights of these boat trips are birdwatching, dolphin watching, along with stops at rocky islands like Mother Bird Island, Telegraph Island and Seebi Islands. Another crowd-puller is the ride to the isolated yet popular town of Kumzar, situated in the northern most village of Oman. It houses the eccentric Al-Kumzari tribe whose unique dialect is a mix of 25 different languages. Although access to Kumzar is restricted, the fascinating village layout and the magnificent marine scenery along the Strait of Hormuz is truly captivating.

اكتشف The National Museum, which is part of the King Abdul Aziz Historical Centre in Riyadh, is one of the largest museum in the Middle East Words: Fadia Jiffry A cultural landmark that highlights the history and reflects the cultural and historical aspects of the Saudi people, the National Museum in Riyadh is one of the largest in the Middle East and undoubtedly the most famous and most visited museum in Saudi Arabia. Located in the eastern side of King Abdul-Aziz Historical Centre, in Al Murraba District, Riyadh, the National Museum is spread across an area of 28,000 square feet. Divided into eight halls, with each of these displaying the natural, human, cultural, political and religious development of the Arabian Peninsula and the Saudi State, the museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts, scriptures and antiques. It contains a whopping 3,700 antiquities, 45 models, 900 figurative means and 45 films.
Man and Universe Hall
It describes the nature of planets and their composition; continents movement; origin of minerals; animal species; and some petrified trees. The hall also contains a collection of ancient pottery and a rock that has handprints with symbolic significance.
Arabian Kingdoms Hall
The first thing that the visitor will notice in the Arabian Kingdoms Hall is a full-scale model of Taima Wall, built with stones from the original wall. There is also a collection of rock panels. The hall displays some tools and belongings from the caravan city Al Fao, in addition to many movable and immovable antiquities. It also tells about the fascinating history of Midian, Kindah, Al-Ukhdood, Nabatean, Himyar and others.
Pre-Islamic Period Hall
It includes exhibits that display the history of Arabian tribes before Islam. There are also other exhibits that show the emergence of Arabic calligraphy. The hall contains models of Arabic poetry markets in the Pre-Islamic period, the most famous of which were: Okaz Market in Taif; Thu Al Majaza Market near Mecca; Dumat Al Jandal; Najran; Habasha; and Al Mushaqqar in Hajar.

Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques Hall
It is the fourth hall in the National Museum, with an area of 350 metre square. It displays the period from the dawn of Islam to the early phases of its spread. It displays the life of the Prophet (SAW), the revelation, the Prophet’s biography, the migration, the battles, the Holy Quran, and a manuscript from Quran.
This hall is dedicated to the history of the First Saudi State since it was founded by Imam Mohamed bin Saud; and the development of Diriyah, the capital of the First Saudi State, and the social life. Finally, it displays the end of the Second Saudi State with the departure of Imam Abdul Rahman bin Faisal from Riyadh in 1309 AH/1891 CE.

It displays the emergence of the Third Saudi State by the hands of the late King AbdulAziz bin Abdul Rahman in 1319 AH/1902 CE. It contains a collection of various exhibits that belong to the Third Saudi State, in addition to a hall for displaying documentaries about King Abdul-Aziz and his achievements.
It displays Hajj, its rituals, and the related antiquities; the role of the successive Islamic States in keeping it; the historical Hajj routes; the development of Mecca and Medina; and the role of the Saudi State in serving pilgrims and rituals. It includes a part of the Kaaba cladding hanging on the wall.

قاعة العصر الجاهلي
تحتوي على معروضات تستعرض تاريخ القبائل العربية قبل اإلس�لام .كما توجد أيضًا معروضات أخ��رى تظهر نشأة الخط العربي .تحتوي القاعة على نماذج ألسواق الشعر العربي ف��ي العصر الجاهلي وأش��ه��ره��ا :سوق عكاظ في الطائف وسوق ذو المجازة بالقرب من مكة ودومة الجندل ونجران وحباشة والمشقر في حجر.
قاعة البعثة النبوية
ه��ي القاعة الرابعة بالمتحف الوطني التي تقع على مساحة ٣٥٠متر مربع .وتستعرض هذه القاعة الفترة م��ن فجر اإلس�لام إل��ى المراحل األول��ى لبدء انتشاره. تعرض هذه القاعة حياة النبي – صل اهلل عليه وسلم – ون��زول الوحي والسيرة النبوية والهجرة وال��غ��زوات والقرآن الكريم ومخطوطًا من القرآن.
الدولتان السعوديتان األولى والثانية
القاعة مخصصة لتاريخ ال��دول��ة السعودية األول���ى منذ تأسيسها على يد اإلمام محمد بن سعود وتطور الدرعية عاصمة ال��دول��ة السعودية األول��ى والحياة االجتماعية. باإلضافة إلى ذلك ،تستعرض القاعة الدولة السعودية الثانية التي أُسست على يد اإلمام تركي بن عبد اهلل ،الذي اختار الرياض لتكون العاصمة .وأخي ًرا ،تعرض القاعة نهاية الدولة السعودية الثانية برحيل اإلم��ام عبد الرحمن بن فيصل من الرياض ١٣٠٩هـ ١٩٨١ /م.

Ideally located at the crown of Persian Gulf, Kuwait is one of the GCC countries. The State is a combination of nine Persian Gulf islands within its territory, with two of the islands Bubiyan and Warbah, still mostly uninhabited, but strategically important. Natural gas and petroleum are the two main natural resources of Kuwait. Kuwait City, its capital, is identified with Kuwait Towers. Likewise, the Liberation Tower is the symbol of Kuwaiti liberation, the symbol of country’s resurgence. Kuwait’s grand mosque, opened in 1986, is a fine specimen of Islamic architecture and has a palm tree-lined courtyard. Its stunning features are stained glass from France, Italian marble detailing, mosaics from Morocco, chandeliers from Germany, teak wood from India and a defining goldplated central dome, that make it the most visited site.

Considered the ‘living museum of Iranian culture’, Isfahan is a major destination on the tourist trail in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In Iran, people refer to Isfahan as ‘Nisfi-Jahan’ meaning ‘Isfahan is half the world.’ A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the beautiful city is brimming with historic delights, some of which date back to pre-Islamic Iran. The defining landmark that is often identified with the city is the 295-metre-long Si-o-She-Pol (The Bridge of 33 Arches), which was built by Allahverdi Khan, a chancellor of Shah Abbas I, between 1599 and 1602 CE. Located on the southern end of Chahar Bagh Avenue over Zayandeh Roud River, which runs through the city, it is the favourite meeting place for picnicking, reading books, watching sunsets, luteplaying, etc.

In a country that is more than 85 per cent plains, it is not the most obvious thought to look for waterfalls. Yet, there are quite a few gentle and cool cascades to be found in Bangladesh, and Madhabkunda is the most well known of all. It is one of the oldest known waterfalls in the country, being among the easiest to access. The exploration of more remote regions, especially in the southeast have led to the discovery of many a charming and cool cascades, but Madhabkunda retains its charm to local tourists who get there by the bus, all year round. Situated in the Baralekha area of Moulvi Bazar district, it is a part of the low rolling hills of Sylhet’s tea garden region. The falls’ steam originates in the Patharia Hills and is about 200 feet tall. The area around the falls was declared and the developed as an eco park about 17 years ago. Some 500 acres of the land is thus protected to conserve the natural beauty of flora and fauna. The stream called Madhabachara flows by it, and there is also a smaller waterfall called Parikunda in the same eco park

Once at the falls, visitors can step into the cool water and walk over beautiful boulders of various sizes, and even just sit around and take in the sight of the fall. However, the exact basin of the falls is usually cordoned off, as the water can be deceptively deep and has currents not visible to the naked eye. Some accidents in the previous years have prompted the local authorities to keep visitors away from climbing the rocky wall beside the falls as well as swimming. You can take a short walk downstream, but you need to be careful on the slippery rocks. There is a small tourist area specifically built for people to play in the waters, and even take some interesting pictures with the statues of animals and birds. There is also a restaurant by the walkway leading to the falls, managed by the tourism body. At the park’s gate, there are some shops that sell local handicrafts and mementos. There is no good option for staying in the night in the region though. If short of time, Madhabkunda can be covered as a day trip.

A covered market, it is a maze of over 60 lanes running into each other home to over 4000 shops. From beautiful ceramics to rugs, from antiques to perfumes, from pretty glass lamps to souvenirs and trinkets, the Grand Bazaar is a cornucopia of delights. This is rivaled only by the Egyptian Bazaar nearby. Also called the Spice Bazaar, it is not as sprawling as the Grand Bazaar but more than makes up with its

wares. A covered market as well, the air is redolent with the aroma of spices emanating from shops that sell all kinds of whole spices and spice powders. These are interspersed with shops offering different kinds of baklava, Turkish delight, dried fruits and flowers, cheese, coffee and so many other things. Other places worth a visit are Sahaflar Bazaar for antiques and second hand books, and Arasta Bazaar for rugs, carpets, handicrafts, jewelry and leather goods among other things.
Chic and classy
Istanbul has the reputation of being among the top cities to shop in the world and a significant part of that is owed to the many chic and stylish shopping avenues that dot the city. Of these, Istiklal Street is a classy and wide pedestrian promenade with an old world tram running through it. Byzantine and Ottoman era buildings line the street and house high street stores and high end fashion boutiques as well as cafes and book stores. Abdi Ipecki Street is similar to Istiklal in terms of comprising historical buildings but has a profusion of global fashion brands. On the other hand, Serdar I Ekrem Street, a little cobble-stone street overlooked by the towering Galata Tower is where niche boutique stores are

located and where it is always possible to find something unique. Cukurcuma Street is flanked by pretty neo-classical buildings with antique stores while jewelry shopping is best done on Nuruosmaniye Street.

Istanbul has its fair share of malls and everything necessary to satiate the most discerning shopper. From the glamorous Istinye Park the open air Kanyon, from Forum’s plethora of entertainment options to the sprawling Zorlu Centre, there’s something for every kind of soul.

Shop like a local
Istanbul’s Asian side comes to the fore where local markets are concerned, since the city is dotted with them and there’s a local market on in some part of the city on every day of the week. But the place to visit is Fatih Market, held in the city’s Fatih area on Wednesdays. Nearly 5000 vendors hawk fresh fruit and vegetables as well as an array of other products such as clothing articles and household items. For food enthusiasts, Ineoblu on Sundays is a treat, with its array of fresh organic produce, herbs, preserves and pastes, dry fruits and so much more.
