Each year, the Pangea community comes together to celebrate literacy and the joy of being together.

Tonight, we invite you to step into a world of PLAY! Play is at the heart of learning. It sparks curiosity, creativity, and discovery in children, and fuels joy and connection in all of us. When learning is joyful, it leaves a lasting impact - this belief lies at the heart of our literacy programs.

We hope tonight inspires you to dance, to sing, to laugh, and to connect deeply. Above all, we hope it reminds you that when we choose to play, we create space for joy and that joy has the power to change the world.

ABOUT PANGEA

Pangea Educational Development is a nonprofit organization building brighter futures through the power of literacy.

Reading is a fundamental skill that unlocks a world of opportunities. Through our work with children, teachers, and parents, Pangea is shaping a generation of children whose futures are only limited by their own imaginations.

Our work is focused in Uganda where too many children in displaced and rural communities are not learning how to read.

Overcrowded classrooms, limited learning resources, and a lack of engaging, culturally relevant materials all play a role in low literacy rates.

Our literacy programs are locally-led and engage a child’s support system to ensure they are sustainable, inclusive, and deeply rooted in the needs of the displaced and last-mile learners we serve. By meeting learners where they are and incorporating familiar folktales and games, we make learning both joyful and effective.

OUR PROGRAMS

Early Reader Programs We reach last-mile learners with culturally relevant content and new ways of learning to excite and engage the next generation of lifelong readers.

Project Backpack An at-home literacy intervention that incorporates technology, caregiver involvement, continuous feedback, and play to help students build foundational reading skills 16X faster.

Pangea Publishing Library An online library with hundreds of free children’s books and culturally relevant content, including options to buy printed copies that support our programs in Uganda.

Teacher Development In-person workshop sessions and follow-up coaching to foster gender equality, and give educators the tools and confidence to tackle gender-related challenges in classrooms.

Gender Responsive Training In-person workshop sessions and follow-up coaching to foster gender equality, and give educators the tools and confidence to tackle genderrelated challenges in classrooms.

Literacy Instruction In-person and online curriculum paired with 1:1 coaching on effective reading instruction methodologies shifting from lecture-based to learner-centered approaches.

2024 IMPACT SNAPSHOT

+600 Children Project Backpack and Literacy Hour changed the future for over 600 students and 30 parents in the Imvepi Refugee Settlement.

+120 Readers On average, 120 children visit Pangea’s two reading spaces every day.

+250 Teachers Over 250 teachers received literacy and gender-responsive training, equipping them to create a better classroom experience and impact thousands of students throughout their careers.
