FY18 Annual Report SEPTEMBER 2017 – AUGUST 2018

A Message from

Caroline Ciocca Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. This is our mission at Make-A-Wish®, the driving force behind everything we accomplished in 2018 and all we hope to accomplish in the years to come. Our mission is possible because of the generous support of people like you. 2018 was a record-breaking year for our chapter in many ways. We saw growth in our two signature events - Walk For Wishes and Fashion Luncheon. Most importantly though, we granted the wishes of 143 children in Southern Nevada, surpassing last year’s chapter-record of 117. These 143 wishes showed the passion and creativity of our wish kiddos and pushed our community to new heights to create memorable experiences. We gave Nadia a best friend, made Madison an inventor, and celebrated Weston’s birthday at his favorite store. 71% of our wishes involved travel, including 58 wish kids who went to a Disney resort. 15 kids met their favorite sports team or celebrity, and 17 had the ultimate shopping spree. And we learned how powerful our community truly is as our partners, volunteers, board members, and staff came together on World Wish Day to deliver a superpowered day for Ivan’s superpowered wish. As this year winds down, I am grateful to be surrounded by supporters like you, who understand the power of a wish and strive to positively impact the lives of the families who come through our doors. Every year, you transform lives, one wish at a time. We cannot thank you enough. With kind regards and gratitude,

FASHION SHOW LUNCHEON The latest designs by Stella McCartney were on display at the Fashion Show Luncheon at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago inside The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. Every November, Las Vegas’ most prominent women gather at this intimate fundraiser to support our mission. This year’s fundraising total was up 116% from last year, including an anonymous $250k grant, $100k estate gift, and thanks to committee member Kristine Creel who took Vegas Magazine’s Vegas Gives event to a new level by raising more than $75k.

Fashion Show Luncheon $858,597 Nov 2017 (FY2018)

WALK FOR WISHES Walk For Wishes $536,650 Mar 2018 (FY2018)

In March, thousands of local families, volunteers, and supporters came together for our annual Walk For Wishes® fundraiser, presented by Allegiant. Participants enjoyed a carnival-like atmosphere with a 5K run and 1-mile walk. Media personalities Kim and Dana Wagner from News 3 and Mercedes and JC from Mix 94.1 welcomed the crowd and hosted a wish parade on stage. Our fundraising total was supported by community partner sponsorships that increased by 11% and illusionist Criss Angel, who repeated his gift of $100k for the 2nd year. 2018 ANNUAL REPORT

Events at

The Wishing Place WINE & WISHES MEDICAL OUTREACH EVENT FEBRUARY 2018 What happens when a wish becomes powerful medicine? That was the focus of this year’s Wine & Wishes event held at The Wishing Place. Dr. Anup Patel, M.D. joined us for an eye-opening interview moderated by longtime Make-A-Wish supporter and KLAS-TV host, Kendall Tenney. Dr. Patel is a pediatric neurologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and has served on Make-A-Wish’s National Medical Advisory Council. He believes a wish is an instrumental tool in any care plan and shared his progress on research that shows a wish has a significant impact on a sick child’s well-being. The Wishing Place was packed with supporters who left feeling inspired by the true impact of a wish.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION EVENT JUNE 2018 More than 100 volunteers gathered at The Wishing Place in June for our annual Volunteer Appreciation event, sponsored by Southwest Medical. The evening featured food from California Pizza Kitchen, a variety of interactive stations, a special performance by magician Landon Swank, and some over-the-top raffle prizes. We honored our amazing volunteers with awards that included: • Junior Volunteer of the Year: Jaren Medina • Rookie of the Year: Leslie Nizama • Ambassador of the Year: Ann Treslley • Wish Angel of the Year: Cheryl Hartfield • Office Angel of the Year: Norma Ellis • Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year: Stephanie Driscoll • Volunteers of the Year: Jill & Sean Gilliam Our volunteers generously give of their time and talents to our organization. We look forward to this annual event as our opportunity to show them our deep gratitude. 2018 ANNUAL REPORT

Volunteer Spotlight

Jill & Sean Gilliam How did you first get involved with Make-A-Wish? We had been looking for the right volunteer opportunity since moving to Las Vegas, but nothing seemed to fit with our schedules. Sean works for Allegiant and after attending the grand opening of The Wishing Place on the Allegiant campus, we knew Make-A-Wish was the perfect fit for us. What experience or wish has been most impactful for you? The most impactful was our very first wish family, sibling wish kiddos, Max and Karlee! Before we were wish granters, Jill made the welcome call to wish mom, Michelle. There was something special about that conversation that inspired us to get even more involved with the wish process. We attended wish granter training and immediately signed up for Max and Karlee’s wishes. The kiddos both had great wish experiences and even after they were complete, the family has continued to be a part of our lives.

No matter how much or how little time you have to give, there is something you can do to help make a difference. What do you wish other people knew about Make-A-Wish? There is a volunteer opportunity for every skill set, every time availability, and almost every day of the week. No matter how much or how little time you have to give, there is something you can do to help make a difference.

If you could say one word about your experience with MAW, what would it be? Why? SMILE! The wish experience has such a positive impact on everyone involved and puts a smile on their face.

What do you do when you aren’t volunteering? Jill is a dental hygienist and Sean is a technical writer. Our favorite thing to do is travel as often as possible. While at home we love to hike, play board games, skateboard, and spend time with our dogs, Gus and Charlie. 2018 ANNUAL REPORT

I wish to have a shadowed pug puppy

Meet Nadia

Nadia, 9 cancer

Outgoing, athletic, and bright, Nadia has accomplished so much in her nine years. She’s a talented gymnast and enjoys swimming, trampoline, and playing hide and seek with her friends. She also loves music, especially Garth Brooks’ songs! When Nadia experienced a vision problem in her left eye, her ophthalmologist discovered a malignant tumor in her optic nerve. She underwent chemotherapy after the tumor was discovered, but completely lost vision in her left eye. When it was time to choose her one true wish, Nadia concluded that she only wished for one thing - a shadowed pug puppy! Nadia wished to have a cuddly puppy to train as a therapy dog and take to the hospital to comfort children dealing with similar critical illnesses. Since pugs naturally like to “shadow” their human best friend, this was the perfect dog for Nadia! When it was time for Nadia to meet her new pup, she headed with her family to Banfield Pet Hospital where volunteers were waiting to greet her. There was even a red carpet! Between Nadia and her new puggle, it was love at first sight as a wide smile spread across Nadia’s face. Of course she already had a name picked out for her new companion: Garth Brooks! According to Nadia’s mom, “Garth Brooks is the perfect addition and has brought so much joy to our little girl!”

I wish to have a shopping spree dressed as my favorite superhero Ivan, 6

rare genetic disease

Meet Ivan

Ivan broadcasts his vibrant personality for everyone to see. He loves meeting new people and never hesitates to show off his cool dance moves and singing prowess, especially to his classmates. A child full of hope and courage, Ivan enjoys playing with action figures, watching movies, and shopping with his Grandma. Despite his painful genetic condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa Dystrophica (EBD), Ivan continues to do the things he loves with a wide grin across his face every step of the way.

His wish experience showed Ivan that wishes really do come true. Living with EBD can prove quite difficult. The disease’s symptoms primarily target the skin, making it very fragile and susceptible to blistering. Minor injuries and common behaviors such as scratching can lead to severe scarring of the affected area, making simple tasks and actions much more precarious and difficult. As of yet there is no known cure for Ivan’s condition, but every year, he and his family fly up to San Francisco to a special clinic to see if there are any new advancements. Hopefully the next time he goes they’ll have great news for him. Ivan’s wish was to have a shopping spree to get as many toys as possible. A trip to Disneyland or Legoland had sounded fun to him; however, due to Ivan’s condition, a theme park wish would conjure some unwanted health issues. So he decided on a wish that allowed him continuous fun even after the wish was over. To make the experience even more special, Ivan wanted to dress as his favorite superhero. Having a visible health condition may seem daunting, but children like Ivan show time and time again that interior value and acceptance of identity lead the way to genuine happiness. In celebration of World Wish Day 2018, Ivan’s wish to have a shopping spree became a reality. Thanks to the support and generosity of our community, Ivan’s wish was so much more than he and his family could ever have imagined. Ivan’s mother saw a positive change in her son’s demeanor that day, and says his wish experience showed Ivan that wishes really do come true. 2018 ANNUAL REPORT

Fiscal Year

2018 Results Fiscal Year 2018 realized our fourth consecutive year of double-digit revenue and wish growth. In fact, 2018 saw 22% year-over-year growth in wishes granted and 18% year-over-year growth in revenue.* While accomplishing these results, we maintained our lower-than-national average cash cost with thanks to our incredible in-kind donors. This despite 71% of our wishes requiring travel – an expense difficult to reduce without donated airline miles. *Year-over-year comparison does not include Allegiant’s in-kind gift of donated office space. The value of our 5-year lease was recorded fully in 2017 per GAAP rules.

There are few experiences more powerful than

making a wish come true.

My favorite part of the experience was spending all of our time together, and just hanging out and having fun with each other. It was very special, and probably the best time of my life. — Lucas, Wish Kid I wish to go to Alaska Lucas, 14

congenital heart disease

I feel that Finnegan’s wish experience has restored some of her confidence in new situations and has strengthened her ability to trust new people more. Before our trip, Finnegan exhibited a lot of skepticism and painful anxiety when visiting new places and meeting new people. But yesterday during speech, she leaned against her teacher’s arm and looked straight into her face and smiled a HUGE grin! In the past, it would have taken Finnegan months to trust someone freely enough to have physical contact. We are certain that the memories of her trip have equipped Finnegan with a happy place she can tap into when she feels unsure.

When Julian asked for his wish, he was super excited to receive it especially now that he is still not able to go out in public safely. Going through all of this, I kept telling him your wish is almost going to come through, just stay positive. It made him look forward to something special. He hasn’t been this happy in a long time.
