Though we celebrate our 40th anniversary this year, Mauna Lani’s legacy began well before 1983.
Centuries before Mauna Lani’s inception, Hawaiian royalty lived and played in the sacred land known as Kalāhuipua‘a. Its fishponds once belonged to Kamehameha the Great, the king who united the Hawaiian islands and admired views of all five mountains from this spiritual center.
200 some years later, Senator Francis H. I’i Brown inherited Kalāhuipua‘a, where he sought respite from his opulent lifestyle. He often hosted guests at the Eva Parker Woods Cottage, setting a standard of hospitality for generations of visitors to come.
Much has changed since the eras of King Kamehameha the Great and Francis H. I’i Brown, but the spirit of Kalāhuipua‘a remains. No matter which holiday you celebrate with us this year, we look forward to sharing the eternal spirit of this place with you.
