Moving From Fear To Freedom

Remember the scene where Oliver Twist asks for more gruel and the beadle goes berserk?

Well, I’d like more freedom and so would you.

And if our politicians and overlords have a problem with that – too bad!

I’m fed up with spy agencies spying on spy agencies, more wars to end wars, chemtrails to protect us from God knows what, blowing up mountains for power we don’t need, genetically modifying seeds so they can’t act like seeds to regenerate, and nuclear radiation to make us glow in the dark and mutate.

All this is not my idea of freedom. Sure, I am free to complain. Free to organize – as long as I don’t get too radical. Free to respond to the “take action” emails I get every day. But whatever happened to those Four Freedoms Roosevelt spoke about in his 1941 State of the Union address?

FDR was getting the country ready to enter World War II to preserve freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear. By Freedom from Want, he meant a person’s right to work and feed his/her family and by Freedom from Fear, he was envisioning a world without war, where we could live in peace Well, we’ve had a lot of wars since then and now we have the Patriot Act suppressing our liberties. We now have almost 4,000 spy agen-

cies and 800,000 plus citizens spying on each other (see the Washington Post series: Top Secret America). So, can we have a Freedom from Being Spied On? Make that Freedom to be!

Egyptian poet C.P. Cavafy wrote a moving poem that made it clear that we always need enemies, “Barbarians at the Gates,” not just so our government can control us, but because our enemies bring us closer together. So if it’s not communists or terrorists, it will be alien invaders. The media seem only too happy to service this fear by concocting movies that scare the bejesus out of us. Now I want Freedom to Not Be Scared!

Freedom. “Just another word for nothing left to lose?” We can get down to nothing and still wind up worrying about becoming radioactive.

So, let’s add Freedom from Radiation! Who gave these bozos the right to screw up the planet?

While we’re at it, let’s add Freedom from Genetic Modification. Who gave Monsanto, DuPont and Syngenta the right to rob our seed supply only to make us dependent on their poison? What food will their children eat?

The capability that we have that can’t be

limited is our creativity and imagination and our ability to use them in positive and constructive ways to envision highly positive futures. If you don’t know about the Hathors, got to TomKenyon.com and read the recent channeling. It will help you deal with the rapid changes we are going through.

To triumph over our fears, we need practical knowledge of how to dance with the demons – the global ones and our own. With reality itself shifting and our world in upheaval, we need to find a ground inside ourselves, a place of inner freedom where we can anchor our beings, apart from external markers. Hint: Meditation helps.

It is not just “them” doing it to us, but we who have participated in creating our own delusions. When we stop shadow boxing, we can focus our energies to create possible futures for ourselves and our world.

I trust in the vast Intelligence of the universe, that Light always triumphs over perceived darkness. And as I access the light through meditation and spiritual practices, I can make enlightened choices from a higher perspective.

Na Nai’a, Legend Of The Dolphins Premieres On Maui!

By Marci Winters Dancing dolphins surround and serenade our island with soothing sonar.

Swimming with them – nothing can compare. Maybe it’s because dolphins are known to have special healing abilities. Many pregnant women travel long distances so they may give birth in the dolphins’ sacred environment.

In the 1960s, scientist John Lilly researched dolphins and interspecies communication and became known for fostering human-dolphin communication. In 1964, the television series Flipper endeared dolphins to the baby boomer generation. From Greek mythology to modern day, humans have felt a special bond with these intelligent sea creatures.

Fascinated by the dolphins, ďŹ lmmaker Jonathan Kay has now spent ďŹ ve years making Na Nai’a, Legend of the Dolphins, an enchanting ďŹ lm celebrating their rare beauty, wisdom, power and playful essence. Kate Winslet, Ellen Page, Gerard Butler, Megan Fox, Daryl Hannah, Julian Lennon, Whoopi Goldberg, Diego Luna, Cheech Martin and Isabella Rossellini narrate and each actor introduces a dolphin species and its respective country.

Kay began in Hawaii, and ďŹ lmed in The Bahamas, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Mozambique and the Amazon River of Brazil.

Producer/Director Kay enthusiastically shares more about his inspired, mind-expanding ďŹ lm: JK: This is the ďŹ rst ďŹ lm ever made that tells a story coming from a dolphin’s point of view. It’s a story about the dolphins telling their own stories, not like a National Geographic documentary. We started on Maui with the Spinner, then to the Pink Dolphins in the Amazon in Northeastern Brazil. They are like prehistoric creatures; pink dolphins are amazing! At one point I felt like something was massaging my back then I saw two pink dolphins looking at me saying, ‘Hey dude!’ They are so friendly!

MV: Any surprises while ďŹ lming?

JK: Each country had its own twists and turns. Of course we had to watch out for sharks, our Hawaiian cinematographer got attacked. He was able to shield himself and he kept shooting, but it affected him. With the pink dolphins I felt very safe, protected.

MV: Do you believe dolphins have a more mysterious purpose than we know?

JK: Yes, they seem benevolent and more intelligent than people think.

Humanity can learn so much from them.

MV: What would you tell the dolphins if you could speak with them?

JK: They sense what you’re thinking or feeling, they work by vibration.

Just being with them, they feel how you’re doing that day. I feel a great love and compassion for them and I feel the same love and compassion back from them.

MV: What now?

JK: We’re seeking funding to convert our ďŹ lm from 2-D to 3-D format.

In Germany, for instance, they will not release the ďŹ lm unless it is in 3-D. As the Maui Film Festival promises on their website, viewers can “Experience an adventure like no other on the planet – a spectacular journey under the sea capturing the incredible beauty and staggering you-are-there drama of the dolphins.â€?

Caring For Your Hair Maui-Style

By Marianne Callari Our beautiful Hawaiian islands provide us with many wonderful outdoor activities. But how do we live an island lifestyle to the fullest and still protect our hair from the sun’s UV rays and the salt from the surf? The effects of UV exposure, salt air and water will take their toll, but the good news is that our hair keeps growing and replacing itself.

One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to protect your hair from the elements is to wear a hat. But here is another tip I share with my clients who don’t want to give up their love of the ocean just because they color their hair: First, wet your hair under the shower and then apply a conditioner that contains Shea butter, which is a natural sunscreen. Just as you use sunscreen to protect your skin, your hair conditioner should be used to protect your hair. It is important that your hair is wet before applying the conditioner because applied to wet hair, it will provide the protection your hair needs while exposed to the elements.

Next, coat your hair well with the conditioner and put your hair up if you can. Then, go have fun in the sun and surf. Rinse your hair normally when coming out of the ocean and, if needed, apply conditioner again.

Coconut oil is another great sunscreen for both hair and skin. It requires more effort to remove from the hair, but it is a nice way to condition it between visits to the salon. Less porosity allows color treatments to take more evenly and consistently. So, deep conditioning will beneďŹ t your hair between salon visits while also providing protection from the elements.

A Hallmark Of Health And Fitness

By Karen Frangos, PT, ND The ability to move your body freely through its full range of motion (ROM) is a standard for optimal health and is critical for athletic performance.

All too often, however, people become stiff and tight, which can severely alter function and lead to injuries and chronic pain. Preventing ROM loss through regular stretching is the best approach, but for those who have already become tight, returning to normal ROM is still possible with patience and persistence.

A longer muscle is also a stronger muscle, so proper stretching can enhance a strength training program, too.

Some keys to successful stretching are to move slowly to avoid strain, staying within your comfort zone, holding each stretch for 90 seconds or longer, breathing and relaxing, and stretching daily, especially after activity.

If you’re not sure how to correctly perform a stretch routine, getting advice about proper form is important to avoid injury and maximize your efforts. A physical therapist (PT) is best qualiďŹ ed to design a therapeutic exercise program, especially if a person is already injured or arthritic. Doctor’s referrals are no longer necessary in Hawaii, which now allows direct access to a PT for the ďŹ rst several visits, saving you time and money. Health insurance will often reimburse for physical therapy, as well.

Attending classes at a gym or yoga studio or following an exercise video at home may be a suitable option for someone without an injury or pain. Once you learn good technique from your favorite source, you’ll have the tools to keep moving freely for your lifetime.

Love, Non-Judgment Lead To Liberation

By Liah Howard My personal path to freedom resembles an incomplete jigsaw puzzle. I know the pieces for divine liberation and enlightenment are all on the table, but some of them are simply not in place in my life yet. Just as I can look at the cover of a puzzle box and see the whole picture of the sunset on the sea, I can also imagine what my life would be like lived free of stress, strain and, most importantly, judgment. I can sense the liberating experience of accepting what life brings while keeping my heart and mind open and operating from an unconditionally loving perspective.

The challenge of being open and conscious forces me time again to review my motives, assess my actions, and love myself and others (even when I don’t feel like it). When I ďŹ nd myself passing silent judgment upon someone, such as thinking, “You drive too slow (or too fast!),â€? I give away my gift of inner freedom. If I let others’ actions and my judgments of them determine my happiness, then I am not free. My heart closes, creating a sense of separation and pain. This trap is especially tricky when you are an aspirant on the spiritual path and you are trained to transcend and override negative emotions and ego games.

As humans living, working, and being together on this planet, there are going to be conicts. The fact that we have young souls, middle-aged souls, and older souls, not to mention all the different cultures and value systems in existence all mixed up together, assure us that we can expect to have some challenges establishing communication and mutual understanding. We all see things through our own lenses of consciousness. But when we accept that others see life differently, we can love and honor them for who they are, becoming compassionate instead of judgmental. This frees us both.

This freedom from judging gives us the gift of a spacious heart. It can be felt on an energetic level. I encourage you to try a little experiment to demonstrate this point. Decide that you are going to live one full day free of judging others, then watch your thoughts, words, and actions. Catch yourself when you hear yourself saying, “I’m better than he is,� or, “she’s better than I am.� Notice how people psychically pick up on your unspoken judgments, or lack thereof, and respond.

When we put love ďŹ rst and see through the eyes of the soul, it is felt, and others soften in our presence. When we criticize others, verbally or nonverbally, they can feel it and walls come up that cut us off from one another. When we don’t hold others responsible for looking, acting, or being a certain way for us to love them, then we are free to be the living expression of love.

Imagine the radiant picture that the complete jigsaw puzzle of your life will form. Let that image fall into place in your life one piece at a time, patiently and gently, with daily renewed effort. Feel stress, worry, and separation fall away as you connect to yourself and others free of judgment. Look at the big picture and reclaim your wholeness, remembering that you are connected to and one with everything. You are free.

Winning Freedom From Psoriasis

By Judy Phillips Psoriasis is a skin condition that affects 4.5 million people in the United States and can pop up at any time. Although it primarily occurs in adults, one in ten cases develops in children, sometimes as early as infancy.

It generates raised pink, itchy lesions that are made from buildup of dried, dead skin cells and typically affects the elbows, knees, scalp, and other actively moving or injured regions.

Psoriasis is regarded as an autoimmune condition in which the immune system targets the skin, triggering a rapid turnover in skin cells. As a rule, skin cells mature and are shed every 28 to 30 days. With psoriasis, however, the cells are forced to mature in three to six days and amass on the surface of skin as thick, inamed patches.

Natural treatments for psoriasis cover a broad range of factors, both internal – what you put in your body – and external – what you put on your body. It can be as effortless as removing a few food items from your regimen or as complicated as a complete gluten-free diet. The external protocol, thalassotherapy (using salts for therapeutic purpose), is magnesium chloride.

Since the 1800s, bathing in mineral salts has been a medical treatment for a host of conditions, particularly skin conditions such as psoriasis. From Germany, Dr. J. Ardt studied 50 patients suffering from psoriasis. Between the ages of 14 and 77, they were treated with Dead Sea salts, which are very high in magnesium. The therapy lasted 3-4 weeks, consisting of 3-4 baths per week. The results were exceptional, and showed that most symptoms diminished within one week of treatment, particularly itching, scaling, joint complaints and difďŹ culty sleeping. Letting Go Of Fear Brings Freedom

By Anne Rice As Janis Joplin once sang, “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.� In other words, when the fear of losing something is gone, we are left with freedom. We don’t have to lose everything to gain freedom, we need only to let go of fear. Fear is the driving force behind the internal imprisonment of the mind and its patterns and the circumstances that bind us. In its absence we are completely free.

Let’s explore how fear works. Fear grips our bodies with tension and sends impulses of worry through our nervous systems. Fear creates a personality that depends on controlling behavior to feel safe. The fear we have stored in our bodies for a lifetime comes forward in a stressful world and can run the show in our relationships, health and work. Fear fuels anger and expresses itself through knee-jerk reactions. Fear is a state of being overwhelmed, based on the belief that there is no help when facing something bigger than ourselves and our abilities.

Is this the truth? Is there no help? Is there not something bigger than we are? An intelligence that is vaster? A presence that is stronger with the capacity to hold us and lead the way? Fear is convinced that there isn’t, that this smallness of character is all there is and that fear itself is the guiding intelligence of the universe! It is convinced

that its solutions, no matter how destructive or one-dimensional, are the only answer.

This is not to demonize fear. Fear has a higher purpose.

It gives us the life lessons we need to evolve.

It is the contraction that compels us toward spiritual birth.

When we ďŹ nally accept and love our fear and its small mindedness for the gifts it offers, we can see beyond its limitations.

We can allow in the deep relaxation that comes with the knowing that fear is not truly in charge. Once ďŹ nally released from fear’s grip, we ďŹ nd that personal will comes forward from an effortless source of action that runs deeper than the realm of fear.

During these times of global stress, the most nurturing thing we can do for ourselves is to acknowledge, talk about, and release our worst fears while, with great intention, handing ourselves and

our fate over to the Divine. Within our hearts is an opening to divine power that can be felt, expanded upon and breathed into our bodies, minds and life experiences. This leads to a profound knowledge of inner freedom and the empowerment to respond to challenges with grace. Just one individual’s freedom from fear can change the world.

Here is an exercise to replace fear with freedom: 1. Gently become aware of all the fear you store in your body and mind. Feel it and witness how it expresses itself through you in thought, biology and behavior.

2. Let the feeling of fear grow in your system until it boils over and releases.

3. Now ďŹ nd the safety and comfort within your heart center, your strong, guiding presence.

Feel it fully.

4. Allow this loving, omnipotent presence to expand until it is bigger than you. Let it hold you seamlessly as you release yourself and your fear into its receptive strength.

This is freedom.

Maui’s Summer Solstice

By Eliza Bassett An interesting chart is cast for Maui’s next three months. The focus of this summer cycle can be on healing ourselves, our world and others for whom we care. Experiencing Shirodhara

By Jackie and Dave Reed The name Shirodhara comes from the Sanksrit words for shiro “headâ€? and dhara “the dripping of oil like a thread.â€? Shirodhara is not only used as a sukhachikitsa (restorative therapy), but also as an adjunctive procedure of pancha karma (the Ayurvedic detoxiďŹ cation program).

This blissful treatment drips warm oil in a steady stream onto the forehead, particularly on the “third eye� and sixth chakra.

It quiets both the mind and the senses, which allows the body’s natural healing mechanisms to release stress from the nervous system. In particular, shirodhara paciďŹ es vata dosha and the subdosha prana vayu. It is an excellent way to cleanse and calm the mind, improving mental clarity and comprehension.

Shirodhara is also used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including migraines, greying of hair, neurological disorders, memory loss, insomnia, vertigo and tinnitus. Studies have shown decreased noradrenaline (stress hormone) and increased retention of serotonin (happiness ‘hormone’) in people who have received this therapy.

At Maui Herbs, the treatment begins with a 10-minute head, neck and shoulder massage to relax the client and create a connection. Soon, the oil is administered from a copper vessel several inches above the head. A warm stream of soothing medicated oil begins to ow over the forehead, creating a feeling of deep relaxation and bliss. There is a big leap from loving oneself to experiencing that love in an unconditional way.

Most of us want to feel love from the important people in our lives. Being loved helps us thrive, strengthens our immune systems and feels spectacular. Loving others and being loved is like frosting our cakes. It makes life sweet.

If we do not feel love for ourselves, how are we able to love others? If we hold judgment against ourselves, how can we move towards love without conditions? Is this possible? In order to love oneself completely, some “heart cleaning� is in order.

If you open your heart and examine the contents, you may ďŹ nd areas of negativity – resentments, anger, past hurts, judgments, hatred, fear, doubt, guilt – any dark emotions that interfere with unconditional self love. You may want to work on clearing them out. Identifying these feelings is the ďŹ rst step. If you connect with each emotion one by one, you will be able to begin dissolving the issues.

Each time we clear something negative, we make room for positive new emotions to ďŹ ll that void. We feel lighter and lighter as the issues evaporate, until the day our self love transforms into unconditional love.

In Transformational Bodywork, a foundational premise is “the greater the depth of reactivity, the great the depth of unresolved material in the person.� For myself, when something brings up a strong reaction in me, I know that it’s the “next piece� that needs exploring and not that I’ve done something wrong.

If I can catch myself in the moment and begin looking inward, it saves me hours of redoing things that I would have set into motion. When you point your ďŹ nger at someone else, there are always three ďŹ ngers pointing back at you.

Twenty years ago, when I started my personal transformational journey, I was doing an intensive series of sessions with my transformational therapist, Conrad Satala. I was in his ofďŹ ce trying relentlessly to convince him that my ill feelings toward my mother were justiďŹ ed and he just didn’t get it.

After an hour of arguing for my limitations, I was sent home with an assignment that delighted

me beyond belief. I was to write down exactly how I felt about my mother. I was thrilled as now I would be able to prove my case. I literally stayed up the entire night writing – writing every possible detail and incident that came to mind.

I proudly returned to my next session the following day (no ego there!) with my thesis in hand. When I shared that I was ready to read my masterpiece to him, he very quietly said, “No, we are not going over it today. You have more work to

do.� I was livid. He went on to explain that I was to take the writing home and go through it in its entirety. Everywhere I had written the words, “my mother or Beverly,� I was to cross it out and write “me or Gina.�

Yikes! Little did I know that this would be the basis for unraveling many layers of deeply buried, very charged material within me. I spent two years exploring the writings and owning each and every projection that I had previously believed was my mother’s fault.

As the journey unfolded, I began to see that I had taken on the attributes of blame, shame, guilt, making comparisons, judgments and trying desperately to make sense out of it all. I peeled away many layers of the onion as I realized that these feelings that I harbored toward my mother, I also carried through into my personal relationships with men.

And then in the end, I learned that it was really all about me.

Today, it is critical for me to pull my own honesty card in my personal relationships and own whatever material brings up reactivity within myself. The freedom to feel is a gift that I can offer my partner in my personal relationship and each person that I encounter in my life. This level of clarity frees me to really be present in each and every moment.

Heart Science: Getting Free From Fossil Fuel Thinking

By DreamingBear The ďŹ nal frontier is not outer space, it’s inner space, and understanding the social lives of our subatomic particles by cultivating our consciousness like it were a crop. What happens when we combine the principles of the various scientiďŹ c disciplines, biology, physics, astronomy, etc. and merge them with those of the inner world of spirituality, sociology, psychology, and then have the audacity to mix them together in the cauldron of mind and heart? A new world view is born.

This is where human development takes a quantum leap forward in the form of magnifying the electromagnetic volume of the heart space, and thereby increasing our innate internal capacity to care. We begin to see patterns emerge as we realize that our universe is in a sort of continual metamorphosis, changing however slightly from one moment to the next, whether in extraneous energetic ďŹ elds, or internal conscious ones.

If so, it’s quite likely that this elusive stirring is the life inside of you waiting to be lived. We all come into this existence with a unique combination of gifts and our purpose, according to some, is to allow them to grow.

When these gifts are submerged, blocked, or unrecognized, something inside of us becomes unsettled.

Even though we may ‘have it all,’ we develop a feeling that something is missing from our lives. What may be missing is ‘you,’ living the life you were meant to live, on a path fueled by your own unique gifts. The opening, development and sharing of our gifts causes us to wake with excitement, alive with eagerness, passion and wonder at what this day will bring.

Our innate gifts are part of the foundation of our expression in this life, what we came here to offer. Without our foundation, life becomes insubstantial and at worst, meaningless.

Become More Mindful, Like The Ancients

By Rev. Lavenda Schaff Several months ago I became concerned about the inflexibility of my joints. Arthritis seemed to kick in. My acupuncture doctor told me to stop eating sugar and wheat. I was shocked – I had hoped to get treated by him.

Instead, he said I just needed to change my diet.

For many years, I felt free to indulge myself with chocolate, cream cake and bread. It made me feel nurtured, good in that moment. But I was ignorant of the longterm effects those choices were having on my body. Through my doctor’s education, I made a more long-term choice toward a more flexible body. Four months later, I already feel the positive effects.

I also used to buy whatever I wanted using my credit cards if I didn’t have the cash available. What a wonderful freedom – until this shortsighted feeling of independence became an overwhelming load of debt, restraint and the inability to move on in life.

Free Yourself From Old Underlying Beliefs

By Maribeth Theisen “I know my poor self-esteem results from being yelled at as a kid, but I don’t know how to put it behind me.” Friends or clients complain that, despite insight into the cause of a particular concern, it persists.

Compare this to a physiological challenge like simply knowing that stress causes a heart attack does not remove the heart problem. Just as we would need to reduce or eliminate the stress that caused the heart problem, we must understand and eliminate the cause of an emotional issue.

Habits, behaviors, and feelings arise from our subconscious beliefs. Using the example above, a child whose parent belittles him/her will begin to believe s/he is not good enough, while consciously wanting to believe s/he is good. While the conscious mind is directed at wanting friends, a relationship, or a raise, the subconscious belief operates in the background to create outcomes more consistent with the negative thought.

To discover an underlying belief, take a few deep breaths, and begin to relax. When you feel centered, start repeating, “I am…” and then fill in the blank. Address a specific matter, like weight, by repeating “I’m overweight because…” and finish the sentence with a different ending each time. Eventually, you will make a statement that feels like a core belief – for example, I’m unlovable.

Next, write several corrective statements: I am lovable, I am special, I am likeable, I am worthy of love. Close your eyes again, imagine

a beautiful, loving light above you and, while you take deep breaths, visualize that light fills you completely. Repeat the positive statements to yourself. As you envision receiving love, make loving statements, and hear yourself repeating them, allow yourself to really feel open, loved, connected. Using all of your senses helps the subconscious mind to absorb the new ideas more easily.

The gap between our basic human selves, our ego selves, our super human selves and our divine selves, is bridged when positively focused at the mind’s level, whether consciously or not. Here the truth of our divinity is revealed.

We cross over and position ourselves directly in alignment with our greatest good, our hearts’ desires. Here we are back in the garden where all the joyous wonders of life are naturally available to us. Here we are in touch with our innocence. Here we see through the eyes of love.

We effectively free ourselves from the confines of self-imposed prison sentences that exist as sorrow, pain, anger, depression, illness and misery of any and all sorts. Freedom is the absence of these ego-generated creations.

The ego does not know the true power of our divinity to experience a life of ease, health, wealth and happiness, a life of freedom.

Simply shifting our perceptions from

negative to positive judgment is the difference between a guilty verdict demanding punishment and an innocent verdict offering freedom.

Every moment we choose, with every thought we think - imprisonment or freedom? The willingness to choose a new way of thinking, one in alignment with our divine perspective and the release of the old ways of thinking that were aligned with the egos perspective is the only real way to secure a true and everlasting freedom.

We don’t need to fight or die to experience freedom, and suffering is always optional.

We simply must choose to keep choosing love and acceptance and let it strip away the multifaceted constructs of our ego mind revealing the true nature of our reality – an ongoing state of freedom.

Free Yourself Into Love

By Christophe Javon-Lynn I awaken and I go to sleep every day. And every time I think I have the big secret, the next day I realize that it’s gone and that I have to reinvent it over and over. So I’m really excited today because I got it, but I know I may lose it again and just get it in a new form next time.

So, there is a challenge and you say to yourself, “How am I going to wake up again?”

The key is – you fall in love – with whatever is presented to you. How do you do that? You start by giving yourself a place where you can find stillness and turn your attention inward.

From there you allow your feelings to flow until you return to love.

Once you have awakened your heart through meditation or other means, here are a few tips to help you embody this radiance in your life: • To bridge the gap between who you are and what you want, reflect often on who you really are and what you truly want so the two can merge into one.

• Try not to reflect negatively on those around you. Instead be in charge of your own choices, set the tone while respecting other’s decisions.

• Seek only to be giving and radiate your light. Do you ever take time to see what a blessing you truly are to others?

• When feeling challenged or out of balance, give yourself a break, go inside, meditate. Let yourself be vulnerable until you reconnect with the light within.

Nothing happens by accident. Love is the fast track to freedom.

Sharing Real Freedom

By Debbie Dehm When I heard that the topic this month was freedom, I wasn’t sure what to write about. I thought I would write about the freedom I feel being single. But then Osama Bin Laden was killed and I started wondering what people would be feeling about that. Do they think this makes us freer or safer?

I certainly don’t feel that way. The first channeling I received was from Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a Jesuit priest, scientist and philosopher.

He was the first to theorize about the noosphere – a web of consciousness that connects all of humanity. In 2003, he wrote, “True freedom will only be won when every man, woman and child is free from hunger, disease and poverty.

Every person must have this as a right and we must strive for this goal in the world. Until this is accomplished no man is truly free.

“For if your brother is not well cared for you have a burden on your soul. Every person must have freedom from worry and want so the soul may pursue its true purpose, which is to create. Whether it is to create children and teach and mold them or great works of art and music, the soul must be freed of material concern so it may soar to heights of glory and joy. The human soul is capable of much more than we can experience when we have worries about food and shelter. God did not intend for us to have need. He provided this beautiful planet to live on with all we need if we would only nourish it as we would a precious child. There is enough for everyone. Everyone must strive until all shares the abundance God provides in equal measure.”

This is real freedom.

Hope For Treating Chronic Pain

By Carol Phelan The divine machine that is our body needs to work well, move efďŹ ciently, and get the right fuel mix, at any age.

Three factors often overlooked in reducing chronic pain are (1) ‘hands on’ structural therapies, (2) ďŹ nding stability before exercising, and (3) the role of imbalance in our hormones - the endocrine system. The key is to ďŹ nd healthcare providers who can help you with these pieces of the puzzle, and then inviting cooperation among them.

1. Hands On, Structural Therapies: Connective tissue (fascia) exists throughout our bodies, covering large muscles, cells, internal organs, and compartments of the lungs, etc., and it is interconnected like a weaving. Think of a chronic problem as a disagreement between the fabrics of our bodies and gravity, speed and mass. Distortion in connective tissue can create pain and make our regulatory systems react.

Working with the whole, and not just one area, gets better results.

Osteopathic-based approaches treat all parts of the body in relationship. Finding structural therapists who work with all connective tissue and have osteopathic-inspired training may be helpful.

2. Stability Before Exercise: The larger muscles we use for activity and exercise are not part of the core stabilizing group. They are part

of the somatic nervous system and we have some conscious control of them.

Core stabilizers that support us are part of the autonomic nervous system and we do not have conscious control of them. The difference is important if you use the big muscles alone to try to ďŹ nd stability.

Canadian and Australian researchers have studied what actually happens when we move our divine machine, how optimal movement patterns get lost, and how they can be regained.

After injury, core stabilizers stop working and do not ďŹ re again with big muscle exercise alone.

Without core ďŹ ring, some of every muscle action loads old injuries. Interrupting this cycle can ease chronic pain patterns. If every action or exercise you take affects injured tissue, how can you heal?

Rick Jemmet, PT, a Canadian researcher, concludes in Spinal Stabilization, the New Science of Low Back Pain that only 1 percent of chronic low back pain is the result of situations other than core structures not ďŹ ring. He also found that 99 percent of the population cannot activate these structures. But, an instructor who has ways to activate stabilizers before exercise can support the divine machine.

3. The Hormone System: If our glandular (endocrine) systems can’t make and distribute the fuel mix we need, the divine machine is in big trouble. For instance, connective tissue cannot regenerate and we lose support around joints

without the proper mix of hormones. Syndrome conditions such as Fibromyalgia often improve greatly if joints are stable and supported from within.

And, forget the downsides about standard hormone replacement therapy drugs – BioIdentical hormone therapy is very different.

By Paul O’Brien Paulo: How do you reconcile seemingly intractable relationship imbalances and an uncertain future?

My significant other and I have been together for five years and share values, experiences and interests. Our lifestyles differ in leisure time, discretionary dollars, and planning for a future, which creates an imbalance. He worked hard to create a life with flexibility and leisure time to travel. My work is an 8-5 gig with 3-4 weeks of vacation.

I’m jealous of his free time and don’t see being able to join his lifestyle for another 10-15 years. And I’d like to have a sense of direction for our future if we’re going to commit to our lives together. - Beth Beth, You are right to be concerned because jealousy turned into resentment is toxic to any relationship. You’ve been together for five years. What you see is what you get. You can’t change him, but you can ask for what you want. Or are you expecting him to read your mind and step up with an offer of a more serious commitment? (Hint: men are generally not so good at this.) There could be lots of reasons he hasn’t brought it up, including his very contentment. There’s no harm in asking for what you want without making it an ultimatum, at least the first time.

If he doesn’t feel he can financially provide for your long-term security, you’re going to be okay. You can take care of yourself, but you need to work. Live Your True Path

We are all here with unique gifts to share with the world. When we connect our deepest longings with our unique gifts and offer them to the world, we live from a sense of purpose. This deep purpose carries us through challenges and obstacles, even when most alternatives seem easier.

I invite you to take a moment in your day to sit in silence, breathe deeply and take the risk to fully connect with your purpose. This can be intimidating if you’re used to living by default instead of according to your own life force and impulses.

In this place of stillness, ask yourself what it is that you most long for? How would you like to be in the world? It may take time, but this longing will lead you to your true purpose. And acknowledging your desire to live your purpose more fully is the first step to living your true path. It’s the first step toward the ultimate freedom we all seek.

Freedom Through Sound

By Joule L’adara We all hold tension from stress in our bodies – holding life’s frustrations deep in our tissues. Vocal sounding play can provide a fun and powerful way to give voice to these frustrations – releasing them and freeing ourselves to transcend our own limitations.

The following simple exercise is something you can do to release pent-up emotions, negative feelings, or parts of the inner “shadow:” Lay down on the floor, letting your weight drop with your body completely supported. Breathe deeply, feel your back expand.

When you exhale, allow your vocal chords to gently come together, releasing a sigh, “Haaaahhhh.” Breathe in through your nose again, and allow the next exhalation to be even longer. Repeat this until you feel the tension in your body start to dissipate.

Once you are used to making gentle, relaxed sounds, try expressing some of your worries and frustrations using wordless sounds. Imagine all the complaints, concerns and fears you have about your life and give them vocal expression! Allow these sounds to lengthen into a long extended tone you hold for as long as you can sustain comfortably.

Repeat this as many times as it feels good to do so.

Eventually, contain these tones into in a hum by closing your mouth. Send the hums’ vibrations inward and let it fill up your entire body. End by lying for a few minutes in silence, allowing the hum to still resonate silently within your body.

You may be surprised at how fun it is to release negative emotions through sound. By expressing them, they can be transformed into something more positive and you may just feel lighter and freer!

Cooling Foods/Herbs For Summer

By Uma Gal The summer season is a time when the elements of water and ďŹ re increase in our external environment and directly increase our internal heat. When we experience excess heat in our bodies, this is called pitta.

Some of pitta’s qualities are sharp, hot, oily and light. In summer, these qualities increase, affecting the pitta sites such as skin, small intestine, liver and eyes. With this increased ďŹ re element, the tastes to avoid are sour, salty and pungent.

The cooling tastes to favor are sweet, bitter and astringent.These contain elements of air and earth, which are cooling in nature and calming to our minds. Suggested foods to favor would be sweet fruits, melons, lime, coconut juice, milk, and sweet rice pudding.

Bittersweet vegetables like kale and cucumber are recommended but be careful to avoid pungent veggies like daikon radish and mustard greens.

When pitta gets out of balance due to excess heat, the body can react by overheating the liver. This creates skin rashes, hives and inammation. Cooling teas like hibiscus, mint, fennel, coriander, raspberry, and rose are recommended. These are soothing to the mind, and healing to the organs. The most commonly used food in India for cooling the system at all times is lassi, which is a combination of yogurt blended with water. Yogurt by itself can clog the channels of the body, but once it is transformed into lassi, it actually aids digestion.

Here is a delicious receipe: Sweet Rose Petal Lassi 3 parts water 1 part freshly made yogurt 1 heaping tsp. rose petal preserve Blend together for a soothing drink to pacify pitta.

We All Have Free Will

By Shalandra Abbey If you were asked what your existence would be like if you were given the reward of freedom, what would you envision?

It is easy to blame society and say, “Freedom isn’t possible in today’s world.â€? But it is possible and it is waiting patiently for us to ďŹ nd! It comes in many forms.

It seems we are always searching outside ourselves for the answers.

Life would be so perfect if I only had this answer or knew when such and such would happen, or had a new car, house, job, or lover. Then my life would be different and I could relax and enjoy myself.

But security is not about having things, it’s about handling things. We learn to answer all what-ifs with an attitude of gratitude. I can handle any situation now in a loving, positive way.

There’s no need to carry it into the future.

After all, if we were taking no risks, we wouldn’t be enjoying many of the goodies life has waiting for us. What a waste!

John Lennon once said that “Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans.â€? Remember, if the moments you are experiencing are not beautiful, recreate them. We all have free will no matter what our personal circumstances, and the trick is to ďŹ rst admit it, learn to understand it, and then use it.

Do you normally focus on all the reasons why you can’t do the things you want, or do you focus on all the reasons why you can? The choice is yours and your life is a reection of those choices. It’s that simple!

By Judy Levy A friend gave me a mug that says “Until Further Notice Celebrate Everything.� Talk about freedom! I can choose at any moment to focus on what’s “wrong� in the world or what I see in my personal reality – beauty, harmony and opportunities.

I just commemorated my awesome two-year anniversary on Maui.

While the ďŹ rst six months were daunting - ďŹ nding a place to live, near fatal car accident and the end of a 17-year marriage - my determined choice to be happy has prevailed.

Early on here, I found myself quite angry at the pollution – the black and white smoke – I saw the sugar factory spewing into our beautiful air. This ugly vision kept invading my Maui happy thoughts until I realized that I had a choice!

Since it was unlikely that I would be able to stop the sugar cane burning process, I chose a new thought: “It appears to be vapor and it dissipates quickly. What if those sugar vapors are the etheric food for all the angels and devas doing the “Maui Magic� every day? Judy, what if your angels got you here to Maui so they could have access to the best sugar vapors on the planet?�

So, now I choose to see the smokestacks as picturesque from a distance, I light incense in my car to mask the smell of the fertilizer and I joyfully celebrate that I live on Maui. My angels are happy and well fed!

Thanks to the show “Extreme Couponing� on TLC, my whole perspective of life, everyday living and way of being have changed dramatically. Helping With The Right Motive

By Frances Ku We are told to make a difference in the world. We are trained by society to take action and “do something!� This action-oriented tendency, however, can be our way of overcoming our own feelings of inadequacy.

Wanting to ďŹ x, improve, solve, and make a difference, while commendable, can often be a smokescreen that hides our craving for selfesteem, control, or power. This becomes obvious when the outcome of our helpful actions is not in our favor and we become angry, resentful, or disappointed. When this repeats itself, we, feeling unappreciated, are left wondering if we should be helping at all.

It isn’t that we should avoid being of assistance, but that we should ask ourselves, “Am I wanting to help in order to obtain feelings of importance (for my sake)?� “Or am I wanting to help so their suffering can be eased (for their sake)?�

The best gauge for ďŹ guring out our true motives is to ask ourselves, “If they reject, criticize, or are unappreciative of my help, would I feel okay?â€? Feeling okay is indicative of the right motive. Not feeling okay is indicative of trying to distract ourselves from our own issues by focusing on ďŹ xing others. There is a much better way of increasing self-esteem – by way of self-examination and self-improvement.

When we help others exclusively for the sake of their well-being and betterment, we become happy helpers. We don’t risk becoming begrudged helpers, because we avoid the pitfalls of anger, resentment or disappointment.

When we do not need to derive self-esteem, control or power from ďŹ xing the world, we can be at peace with ourselves and at the same time, be happy to help.

We Are Free!

Free people in a free society have the right to do as they choose as long as they are not infringing on someone else’s freedom. In theory this is what our laws are for. But what makes us truly free is the ability to exercise the responsibility of controlling our thoughts, attitudes, beliefs and actions. We can do this, though it is often difďŹ cult, even in adverse or oppressive situations. Acknowledging this gives us joy as well as freedom.

We are currently in the energetic period referred to in Hebrew as ‘Zman Cheruteinu,’ ‘the Time of Our Freedom.’ According to Kabbalistic thought, this is an auspicious time to move toward personal and global redemption by cleansing and rectifying the parts of us that are holding us back from connecting with the Divine Presence within us.

Does this sound familiar? It should, because this is the concept behind the ancient Hawaiian wisdom of Ho’oponopono that results in peace, harmony and freedom. This life approach system, shared by the Hawaiians and the Jews, cleanses our inner and outer reality and enables us to receive and utilize Divine inspiration and love which is the spirit of Aloha.
