There Is Only One Maui

By Mark Sheehan It is a paradox that Maui is revered around the world for its magical mountains, breathtaking vistas, cascading waterfalls, pristine beaches and world-class resorts; yet, at the same time, Maui has a third-world level of support for our working families who keep it all together, and second-rate political leadership that touts the environment yet seems hell-bent on paving paradise.

What’s wrong with this picture? Who, really, is fighting for smart growth and environmental sanity?

Maui Tomorrow Foundation. That’s who.

After years of working in the 1970s to preserve Oneloa “Big Beach” as a state park at Makena, a small group of visionaries recognized a need for an organization that fights to protect Maui’s future. The Maui Tomorrow Foundation started with a bold scheme to educate the public about permissive zoning that outstripped infrastructure development; the “build out scenario” shocked politicians but was recognized as a vital planning tool by community leaders.

It is at the intersection of vision and courage that environmental groups step in to speak up for the environment, the less powerful and the underserved. For 29 years the foundation has played that role, working to educate leaders about smart growth, balancing residential/commercial development with infrastructure, along with preservation of an equitable distribution of natural resources.

To achieve these goals, MTF has had support from a wide range of community organizations; and when legal action has been required, MTF has had the support of the Sierra Club, Earthjustice, and the Native Hawaiian Legal Defense arm of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

Some of the major accomplishments MTF has had in the past few years include:

Twenty years ago MTF prevented the unneeded and excessive expansion of the Kahului Airport; As Maui was being threatened by invasive species, MTF demanded and got an alien species screening facility at the Kahului Airport; When the Superferry tried to circumvent Hawaii’s environmental protection laws, MTF took the matter to the Hawaii Supreme Court twice to gain enforcement; When Native Hawaiians sought the protection of watershed in both East and Central Maui, MTF fought for the restoration of streams and water rights for Native Hawaiian agriculture; As Makena Resort tried to avoid proper review of its shoreline project, MTF was able to negotiate a comprehensive agreement to reduce density, maintain public access, and to preserve open space and cultural resources; Before sugar production collapsed, MTF produced a “Malama Aina” report as a vision for sustainability. (See FutureOfMaui.com) Let’s be clear: MTF is not opposed to all development. It works tirelessly for projects that respect our precious environment, while employing smart growth principles and meeting the needs of our communities for affordable housing. MTF worked with the Waikapu Town Project to mitigate traffic impacts and ensure more open

space, playgrounds and workforce housing.

State law requires that every 10 years, counties work with communities to draft community plans to guide development. Hundreds of people devote thousands of hours to these plans, which have the force of law. To make sure those plans are followed, MTF has fought with county planners who claim zoning laws supersede them. It’s not glamorous work but it is essential.

Maui faces a perilous future: changing weather patterns, huge tracts of land opening up, a fight for equitable distribution of water, along with rising sea levels and state plans to divert more tourism to the outer islands.

But Maui has a reputation as a world treasure and as the “can do island.” It is because of the passionate participation of our citizens who are willing to study the issues and weigh in to fight poorly planned “mega malls,” that MTF is able to punch way above its weight.

MTF is expanding its outreach to include voices from across the county, and from citizens who want to protect Maui’s future. There is only one Maui and now is the time to take big, bold actions to protect its future.

Euphoria - Our Birthright

It is our birthright as humans to feel Euphoria, defined as “a state of intense happiness and selfconfidence.” So how do we get there? Some people take shortcuts and get there with the use of chemicals, but this can have multiple negative consequences.

Breaking Through The Inner Glass Ceiling

By Ania Ananda Wood As we expand and call in more bliss and fulfillment into our lives, it is common to bump up against an inner glass ceiling of limiting beliefs and unconscious self-sabotage. One of my teachers, Gay Hendricks, calls this the “upper limit problem.” It happens when we rapidly expand our bliss potential, and our unconscious set point needs a moment to catch up with the new normal.

Many of the people I work with get frustrated with this bump in the road of their healing journeys. They’ve manifested some beautiful dream, but something gets in the way of them fully enjoying it.

Sometimes it looks like finally making a lot of money, but not being able to shake a mental fear of it disappearing soon — feeling scarcity mindset even in the lived experience of so much wealth. Sometimes it looks like finally finding true love, but not being able to relax into trusting the relationship as solid and always being on alert for what might go wrong.

This unconscious part of us has been conditioned to a more limited slice of reality than is actually possible. It’s like the upper limit part has a really old map of reality, with small continents and big oceans of sea monsters. When our big picture mind is walking towards the dream, the old unconscious patterning freaks out and imagines we must be walking off the edge of the continent into sea monster territory, and it throws anything it can at us in an attempt to pause our trajectory.

I was with a client recently who’s having the experience of keeping love at arms length. She manifested a loving relationship beyond her wildest dreams with an amazing man, yet she finds herself falling into obsessing over the tiny imperfections and finds her mind wandering to random fear-based scenarios that undermine her trust in their love.

She was judging herself for ‘crazy’ behavior, but this is just simple upper-limiting. The first step in shifting this and allowing more love in is to recognize the upper limit behavior for what it is. Call it out.

“Okay, I see you, unconscious safety patterning! Trying to convince me that I can’t trust this new amazing love experience. I see you and I’m not buying what you’re trying to sell me.”

Just naming it for what it is empowers you to wake up from the trance. The next step is to anchor your new awareness and more objective take on reality with opening more deeply to letting in the goodness of the new normal. In simple terms, appreciate the goodness.

Whatever you appreciate, appreciates. When you redirect your attention to appreciating the positive experience you’re having, whether it’s amazing love or any other life dream, you send many powerful messages to your subconscious. You tell your psyche, “This is not an outlier experience that will disappear soon; this is actually the new normal of my life now.”

Invite yourself to savor the sweetness of this new normal; breathe it in like a thirsty person taking a big gulp of water; say prayers of gratitude; remind yourself that you deserve it, because you do. If you keep living this process then you will find yourself moving through multiple glass ceilings until they just disappear.

There is no scarcity of bliss in this world, and the more you open yourself to living your most blissful life, the more you inspire others around you to what is possible.

You Have A Tricky Brain (And It’s Not Your Fault)

By Paul O’Brien Everyone prefers happiness over suffering, but it can be very difficult to steer our emotions and moods toward a happier state. According to evolutionary psychologist Dr. Paul Gilbert, we are burdened with a big challenge he refers to as our “tricky brain!”

Why so tricky? In his captivating book, Mindful Compassion, Dr. Gilbert explains that our brains have been shaped by evolution, which is not the most intelligent designer. We could have a better brain if evolution were able to reorganize it (like rebuilding a software program from scratch), but evolution doesn’t work that way—it can only build newer brain functions on top of old, patching and extending things over time.

It makes sense that over millions of years, our brains have become rather unwieldy and unstable. It’s like we have two brains – “old brain” and “new brain.”

The old brain continues reacting to jarring stimuli as if it were life-and-death, as if a saber tooth tiger were about to attack you from behind, instead of the reality: you lost your keys and are about to be late for an important meeting.

The old brain runs emotions, which guide our motives (social and otherwise) to help us get what we need and depend on for survival. Old brain mechanisms evolved functions that direct the body to deal with threats, take shelter, find food, seek out a sexual partner, etc.

In the last million years, our brains have evolved in profound ways. With a growing neocortex, we became able to think, reason and plan, enabling us to cooperate and communicate. However, this new brain isn’t foolproof or even 100 percent advantageous. Because of these abilities for thought and self-awareness, we become burdened with habits of ruminating, comparing, self-criticism and judgment – with emotional by-products like anxiety,

vindictiveness or depression. Unlike other animals, humans can anticipate the possibility of starving to death or obsess on a fearful experience. As they say in 12-step meetings, “stinkin thinkin” can get us stuck in a loop until we find a way to intervene.

The two brains are linked and intertwined. The old brain can hijack the new brain, where all of its thinking and planning becomes enlisted by the survival fears of the old brain. Our thinking can become linked or looped into a stream of threat-fueled anxiety, anger or worry.

As always, 80 percent of the solution lies in understanding the problem. We can have a better relationship with ourselves when we stop judging ourselves and develop compassion for ourselves, accepting the fact that our brains are replete with conflicting ideas, emotions and desires. Tricky!

In Mindful Compassion, Dr. Gilbert teaches how to break self-destructive thinking cycles, reorganize the mind, and keep it on track for positive and constructive action. (My podcast talk with him is definitely worth a listen at Divination.com.)

For the sake of self-compassion – which, as Dr. Gilbert explains, is a healing balm for our suffering – it’s important to remember that your brain’s conflictedness is not your fault!

Likewise, we are not responsible for the family system or society we were born into, so let’s have compassion for ourselves around that, too! The great news is that we can learn to rewire our tricky brain by combining the skill of mindfulness and the power of self-compassion.

MPD’s Chief Tivoli Faaumu Challenges The Local Drug Scene Working With The Feds (With A Smile!)

On first meeting, this smiling, gentle giant of a man seems more like your father or grandfather rather than Maui’s top cop. Yet he can summon the muscle of 353 police officers at a moment’s notice to confidently handle whatever may be threatening Maui’s residents — 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Tivoli Faaumu will begin his fifth year as Maui Police Department’s police chief in November this year, and he has much to be commended for. Maui’s crime rate has been steadily dropping by about 10 percent under his steadfast watch. Not to take the credit all for himself and the MPD, Chief Faaumu cites his close communication with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Agency as important factors for Maui’s reduction in the sub-category of drug-related crimes included in the overall crime rate. When meeting him, one is immediately reminded by his friendly demeanor what we were all taught as kids — that the police are friends you can trust to protect you from the bad guys out there.

On an uneventful beautiful Maui day in January, Maui Vision Magazine was privileged to be granted an in-person interview with the police chief to talk about Maui’s drug scene. And the conversation did wander into the topic of police corruption that plagues every police department, and occasionally crops up on Maui.

When Chief Faaumu took over MPD’s top position from Chief Gary Yabuta in 2014, he instituted firm policies to keep his force in integrity.

Recently, an incident of alleged officer misconduct took place in Lahaina, with an odd set of circumstances chronicled in The Maui News, and previously brought to the attention of MPD’s Internal Affairs Department. Following examination by the prosecuting attorney’s office, the FBI was notified and took over the investigation.

Awhile back, Chief Faaumu commented in a video press release that he would hold all his officers “accountable, both criminally and internally.”

He holds this tough accountability policy for himself as well, when his behavior may be called into question by the Maui Police Commission.

When asked which drug accounts for the largest number of arrests, he said it is still marijuana. Even though medical marijuana is legal, purveyors of the green leaves and buds, affectionately called “Maui Wowie,” may have lulled themselves into lax security around their drug-dealing operations.

Chief Faaumu said the second most problematic drug in terms of arrests, is crystal methamphetamine. He knows firsthand about the beginnings of meth on Maui, as he served in MPD’s Vice, Gambling and Narcotics division from 1988-1990, and has dedicated his life of service to MPD for 31 years in various capacities.

Times have changed since then, and along with it, the culture of the Maui Police Department. The average profile of Maui’s drug dealers and users has also changed. Baby Boomers are now senior citizens, and users and dealers now encompass all ages, races and financial backgrounds. Now, Chief Faaumu thinks drug dealers are having a harder time operating on Maui. He said that back in the day, dealers also took the drugs they sold.

Currently, many Maui dealers do not partake of the drugs they sell, and instead just use their sales networks as a source of non-taxed income, which can be substantial.

Chief Faaumu said some specialty gangs of different races occasionally arrive on Maui and attempt to set up shop. The most recent big bust

involved a newly arrived methamphetamine dealer who didn’t last long before being caught. Chief Faaumu said there are also different factions that exist on Maui and deal drugs as a group.

As far as where the drugs come from, Chief Faaumu said people carry them on their bodies when arriving by plane, but USPS, UPS and FedEx are the carriers of choice. Dealers know that moving drugs around Hawaii is fairly easy.

Chief Faaumu said that despite some rumors on the street of a meth lab operating in the Hana area in 2005, none of the meth on Maui is now manufactured here.

He said the most recent lab discovered in a Kihei home was inoperable. Strict controls of ingredients, such as nail polish remover are making it difficult to formulate.

As far as heroin goes, Chief Faaumu said the MPD sees very little of the China White variety of years past; now it is almost always black tar heroin from Mexico. The word on the street is that heroin use is now increasing on Maui, replacing Oxycontin, as those prescription tablets are now difficult to obtain on the black market.

He also said prescription painkillers are many homeless people’s drugs of choice.

Maui Vision Magazine readers may be interested in the MPD’s position on Ayahuasca ceremonies. First, Chief Faaumu was surprised that they take place here at all, but it was mentioned to him that at least two different Ayahuasca ceremony leaders are active here on Maui. The ceremonies involve ingesting Ayahuasca, which is a psychedelic tea from the Amazon, as a spiritual practice. Chief Faaumu said as long as the ceremonies are conducted privately, he had no interest in chasing down the leaders or the participants unless they were creating “a public nuisance.”

Most of all, Chief Faaumu sees the apparent decrease in drug dealing and drug usage on Maui to be a result of new methods of investigation, and increased cooperation with federal agencies including the DEA and FBI. Social media also plays a huge role in catching suspects who conduct criminal activities to fund their drug habits.

MPD is finding it easier to bust people by examining public posts on social media, as they have become a big source of incriminating photos and information.

The word on the street is that the apparent decrease in drug use on Maui may be an illusion, though, as Maui’s economy has improved. Drug-related crimes may have decreased, but that could also indicate people don’t need to steal to buy and use their drugs of choice. Drug dealers, on the other hand, may have professionalized their operations and have rules in place to only sell to people who have good jobs and money, or who are referred by long-term customers. As an example, a West Side cocaine dealer, assumed to be located in Napili (who does not take cocaine), has been successfully conducting her cocaine business for over 10 years under the radar.

Obviously a people person, Chief Faaumu is slowly making a dent in turning around the public’s perceptions of the MPD from negative to positive. He sees open communication with the media and public, including the interview he gave us, to be one of the keys.

Hana Hou!, the magazine of Hawaiian Airlines, described Chief Faaumu as having a “remarkably gentle demeanor.” He leads MPD with a friendly, positive vibe that one can sense must permeate the entire MPD culture.

As he said in the February/March, 2018 edition of Hana Hou!, “Police work has changed me. I’m more tactful, less of an alpha male.”

Referring to a past gig he had at the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu, where he played the French horn and danced while attending Brigham Young University, he predicted, “Maybe when I retire I’ll sit under a coconut tree and play my French horn until somebody calls the cops.”

Handstands And Wonder

By Sandra Razieli One afternoon I was sitting near some kids playing in the grass.

They put their hands on the ground, kicked their legs up in the air, and then immediately fell down. After doing this a number of times, one of them squealed in delight how much fun it was — “we jump up and then fall down again.” I was awed. She didn’t care that she couldn’t hold her legs up in the air. She didn’t care that she kept falling down. She just continued to jump up and fall down.

I could have interpreted her actions as a story of perseverance, but I think I would have been mistaken. Perseverance is an admirable quality. There is a lot to say about the importance of striving towards one’s goals, but I was awed by something else.

This little girl just loved what she was doing. She loved the movement. She reveled in the sheer joy of the moment. She embodied a total sense of wonder.

I believe that this sense of wonder is our birthright. All children, no matter the difficulty of their circumstances, can tap into it.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way of entering into adulthood, many of us lose it. The experience of wonder becomes a dim memory as we take on responsibilities and focus on building our future and/or lamenting our past.

But I also have hope that the dim memory of wonder can be reignited. As adults, we may not find our way there by kicking our legs up in the air and falling on the grass. Our path might be something as simple as wiggling our toes for the first time in 10 years, or taking our arms and legs wide in what I call “bigasana.” It may be doing a handstand against a wall, or breathing deeply and discovering that some irises smell like purple.

The Kindness Factor

By Suzän Proia “A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” - Amelia Earhart Random acts of kindness are like gems set in the crown of life.

There is magic in helping others. It doesn’t take much effort or energy, and the effect can be profound. A single opportunity to open a door for another is a chance to change their whole day and create a domino effect.

One of my favorite daily goals is to see how many people I can impact in a positive, simple way – nothing lofty.

For instance, who can I smile at and receive a smile in return? Think about the last time you shared a kindness. What memory comes to mind? It likely cost you nothing but a little of your time, and left you with a sense of satisfaction.

During my gym workout yesterday, I noticed a member who was seated next to me. The woman looked extremely sad, and I asked if she was alright. What followed was an intense emotional outpouring due to an upsetting incident she had dealt with earlier that day. Clearly, she was suffering and in need of a sympathetic ear. I was happy to provide one. Once purged, she expressed surprise at her openness with a stranger and her deep gratitude for my willingness to listen and respond. It was my pleasure to offer that.

The gift of receiving kindness from another is often significant for the recipient, but perhaps the biggest gift is seizing the chance to assist others. The rewards are infinite. Seek out those occasions and you will feel your heart grow.

Spiritual Euphoria!

By Rev. Blaine Tinsley Rumi wrote, “My Soul is screaming in ecstasy. Every fiber of my being is in love with you.”

To me, Rumi is describing the spiritual euphoria we experience when we face our erroneous beliefs and fears, and return to knowing the Truth of who we are.

One cold winter morning in St. Louis in the mid-1990s, a group of women shared with me that a man in our congregation was touching them inappropriately. Each of these women stated that his behavior was so subtle that they often doubted whether they were violated or not. It wasn’t until they began to share their experiences with each other that they realized that this man was molesting them. Some shared that they did not feel safe coming to our Unity Church.

This man, who I will call “Tom,” was one of the most supportive people in the congregation and a friend. I was shocked, hurt and very disappointed that a trusted member of our community would hurt others in this way. I immediately made an appointment with Tom, told him about the women’s accusations, and insisted that he not return to the Unity Church. He denied any inappropriate behavior but said he would comply with my request.

It did not take long for everyone in the congregation to hear the news.

Many thanked me for my action, while some people thought my decision was impulsive, unnecessary and out of integrity.

I was devastated. I sank into a deep despair. Through meditation and prayer, I felt the depths of my connection to the Divine – a euphoria in my embrace with God. Euphoria Created Naturally

By Barbara Ensign The word ‘euphoria’ is used to describe intense happiness, sometimes with the use of drugs. Its Greek origin refers to health, and the good feeling one experiences after a health treatment.

Learning Neutrality

By Tanya Gabriel, MA Life inherently is filled with both pleasant and unpleasant events.

Duality is a part of the human experience, yet oftentimes people react to unpleasant events in harmful ways. We all hold beliefs and opinions on how life is ‘supposed’ to unfold, how others ‘should’ behave, and how we ‘ought’ to feel.

Whether you experience a divorce, chronic illness, accident, or anything that elicits uncomfortable emotions, the common human response is usually one or more of the following: blaming someone for ‘creating’ the distress, thereby redirecting the inner turmoil into outward anger; avoiding the distress by zoning out into electronics, alcohol or some other escape; or disengaging from people, activities or situations where there are possibilities of feeling distress.

Major problems can arise when we resist reality. Life’s difficulties can be handled with neutrality and without struggling against the current. To cultivate a radical acceptance of life events is a bold decision.

You don’t have to like it or passively accept it like a doormat. The proposition involves a choice in which you allow the facts of the moment to be exactly the way they are. The waves of life will become difficult sometimes, but as they crash down you can permit and accept the waves, knowing all the while that this too shall pass. The tides will inevitably change just as feelings will rise and fall.

The profound choice you can make in these moments is to open up and make space for distress. The ability to thoroughly accept distress is a skill that everyone can attain. Only when a situation, person or emotion is accepted fully, can change begin to occur. If you want to learn how to surf the waves of discomfort, then simply learn how to practice mindfulness meditation. When better a time to start than now.

A Euphoric Journey

By Carole Cote’ I stood at the threshold of the Bermuda Triangle, ready to travel the open sea from the Bahamas to Palm Beach, Florida. As we motored out of the harbor, the ocean was black and glassy. It was undulating, alive; its rhythm pulled me into a magical place inside of myself. The breathtaking vision stirred my soul. Amazing shadows were cast upon the sea as the full moon rose higher.

I learned the importance of being on watch. Captain explained that we must stay out of harm’s way, and take turns every three hours. While one slept, the other stood every 15 minutes, eyes scanning the ocean around us. The liquid sheen on the water played in the moonlight.

Soft jazz melted into my ears as I gazed at a heaven full of stars. Magnificent! Just when I felt it couldn’t be more beautiful, a flying fish leaped out of the water with a trail of phosphorescence. Then many more fish came, some landing on the deck. Fairy dust sprinkled over the wake behind us.

This was truly one of the most fantastic nights of my life. It was more than my imagination could ever conjure up. The peace and serenity of nature surrounding our tiny sailboat reminded me how precious each moment is, and how amazing it is to really see, feel, smell and hear the beauty around me.

I was filled with awe, and deeply honored to witness God’s magic.

We journeyed out of aqua water, passed through the dark navy in the ship lanes, and into the green of the Atlantic Ocean. My heart nearly exploded with joy.

The morning came, along with a splendid sunrise. My heart was filled with gratitude for being guided safely back to land.

Expos Promote Conscious Living

When I met Brenda at the Awakening in Paradise metaphysical bookstore formerly located in Kihei, we had an instant connection. Once we talked about each of our visions, we discovered them to be identical.

We created Intuitive Arts Maui, LLC, (I AM) a conscious platform designed to awaken people to their own “I AM” abilities to experience enhanced intuition and healthier living. Our mission is to educate and heal ourselves and the people we attract by presenting conscious living expos on Maui.

Our expos will be places for vendors to showcase their offerings to the community and to talk story. Drug-Free Euphoria

By Douglas J. Price, D.C. Addiction is a complex subject. Programs that address addiction only on the level of behavior, without also addressing the root cause, often do not work in the long term.

To address the cause of addiction, one must uncover the unintegrated childhood issues resulting from unanticipated dramatic events that were logged into the psyche for survival. Based on earlier imprints on the psyche, certain presentday situations may trigger a person to drink excessively, smoke, or engage in other addictive behaviors. When a situation arises that reminds this person of the earlier event, he or she will react for survival.

For instance, a person may smoke cigarettes to regain a feeling of control, especially when triggered by a situation that reminds him or her of an earlier conflict where he or she felt a loss of control. Cigarettes satisfy the reward center, giving a temporary feeling of control. And alcohol may satisfy the contentment center, allowing for a temporary euphoric feeling of satisfaction and peaceful fulfillment.

However, once this person becomes consciously aware of the original programming and how the present situation relates to it, and finds resolution of the conflict, he or she is more empowered to cut down on unhealthy habits.

Knowing how your brain works may also help. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain’s reward and pleasure centers. On the other hand, serotonin helps regulate mood and social behavior, appetite and digestion, sleep, memory, and sexual desire and function. Low serotonin levels may lead to depression.

It’s important that all of us live in the present moment and enjoy a life saturated with meaning, connection and contribution.

Scalar Healing Promising

By Terry Shintani, M.D. A study I recently published has shown promise in using scalar field therapy for medical purposes. The study showed how scalar field therapy may be beneficial in the mitigation of seizures in autistic children.

In one case, the patient was a 4-year, 10-monthold girl with a three-year history of seizure disorder and autism. She presented with a long history of a series of 6 to 8 tonic-clonic seizures daily, each lasting approximately 10 to 20 seconds long. She had not had a seizure-free day in two years. The pattern of 6 to 8 seizures per day had persisted for a period of approximately one year prior to first presentation. After a series of treatments in the scalar field, her seizures were reduced to 4 to 5 partial seizures of just 1 to 2 seconds in duration.

The reduction in number and duration of seizures in this case suggests that the use of scalar field therapy in the treatment of seizure disorder should be further explored. Of great importance is the potential for controlling seizures while minimizing the use of pharmaceuticals that are often debilitating and have numerous negative side effects.

Have Your Cake And Eat It, Too

By Dr. DreamingBear Have you found the moment you exist for yet? Forgive me, but I aspire to nothing more than being a good-lover to the moment.

Who needs to possess or control anyone? I should wish to kiss all hearts if possible. Man, woman, plant, animal and the indescribable other. True lovers are like that; we want to increase each other’s happiness and lessen each other’s misery.

I said “I love you” to the moment, and it said, “If you want to love me, show it by giving that same intensity of love to everyone and everything.” I said, “Then teach me, but with kisses.” Love’s lessons turn each tender touch into a kind of prayer more holy than all theology aspires. I want you to fulfill all your dreams and simultaneously not be worried about them.

Existence has performed all this incarnating just to find a single feeling where it can really be at home with itself. Every sound we hear is the moment seeking that satisfaction. The innocent eyes of existence stare out through our experience and home resides in the recognition returned. When something truly beautiful happens, I take it inside and say, “Let me be worthy of this, let me live a life worthy of this moment.” The eternal voice says, “My dear, if you weren’t already worthy it wouldn’t be happening for you now.”

The metaphor of Schrodinger’s cat teaches us that paradoxes exist in every instance. Something can be both alive and dead at the same second. Be in the moment? No. We are the moment, and everything in it! We understand ourselves by experiencing each other, so it’s no wonder that when it comes to being quantumly entangled with you, I’ll politely have my cake and ravenously eat it too!

Whales know something that we humans keep forgetting, which is that deep calls unto deep, and this is why they keep singing.

Perhaps gravitational waves are the aftereffects of grace moving through time and space, and maybe we are the collective groupthink of our molecules commingling throughout infinity.

Truth runs parallel to itself in all things. Time isn’t what it seems; it’s the moment of moments itself saying, “Don’t go baby, stay awhile. Let me enjoy the intimate ephemera of your company and the fragrant mischief in your sweet smile. Love is a discipline, and discipline is a kind of love. Nothing more holy in all the world than tender beloveds lip-locked in a psychedelic kiss-bliss cuddlepuddle coitus.

Therefore, all religions and ideologies have got it wrong! That’s why I sing this song, because all of life from birth until death is just foreplay. The real lovemaking begins after metamorphosis. My soulgasmic desire for you as we become cosmic sea-foam, is that you find that moment you exist for. When we find it, we are home.

A Unique Approach For Post-Concussion Syndrome

By Erin Elster, DC A concussion is a mild form of traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a sudden blow to the head. A myriad of symptoms may ensue, including memory loss, ‘brain fog,’ headaches, dizziness, sensitivity to bright light or loud noises, irritability, depression and sleep disturbance. These are collectively known as ‘post-concussion syndrome.’ Most commonly, concussions are sustained through falls, motor vehicle accidents and sports.

There are two possible mechanisms for brain injury resulting from blows to the head. The first, which most people are familiar with, is the striking of the brain against the inner skull, which injures delicate neural pathways in the brain and causes concussion symptoms.

The second mechanism of injury, which is less commonly understood, is an injury sustained to the upper cervical (neck) spine. During a sudden impact, as an individual’s head snaps back and forth or side to side, supporting ligaments may be stretched, which forces the upper neck vertebrae out of their normal alignment. Because so many nerves transmit through the upper neck — to and from the brain — injury to this area may slow or prevent the brain from healing from concussion.

Luckily, there is a chiropractic technique that focuses on the alignment of the upper cervical vertebrae. It is known as upper cervical care, and it offers a unique approach for treatment of post-concussion syndrome. Upper cervical chiropractic care utilizes two diagnostic tools — thermal imaging and digital x-rays — to accurately assess an upper cervical injury. After determining a diagnosis of cervical injury, each patient’s injured neck is corrected by administering a precise adjustment by hand on a specially-designed knee chest table. Many patients notice improvement in post-concussion symptoms with just a few treatments.

Black Swan Ceremonial Cacao Nugget Recipe 1/4 cup raw cacao butter 2 tablespoons coconut oil 2 tablespoons local raw honey Pinch of Himalayan salt Dash of Hawaiian chili pepper Dash of cinnamon 2 cups raw organic cacao powder (cold-pressed) Bring a pot of water to boiling. Double boil (put a bowl over the hot water so you can melt the cacao butter over indirect heat). Once the cacao butter is melted, add the raw local honey, salt, chili pepper and cinnamon. The Healing Power Of Dreams

Natural Euphoria Embodied

By Lalénya L. Vann Living a magical life on Maui is euphoria! Being in alignment with your soul’s purpose and your higher self brings joy and bliss. How to get there?

Meditation is always a good path. What also worked for me was learning how to interpret my spontaneous night dreams. I then use that guidance as a navigational guide for healing and improving my waking life. It’s all about “soul remembering” — figuring out who we are, and why we’re here. Soul recovery is an important part of this process.

My favorite transformational dream was the “Golden Goddess.” At first, I saw myself as a dark waif — my victim self — fearful, hiding in the shadows. The Golden Goddess then appeared as a very tall light being — the color of candlelight.

She was shimmering golds, yellows and ambers.

Her light enveloped me, and I embodied her — my true, divine, higher self! It was a spontaneous healing and amazingly empowering. I felt very euphoric when I awoke!

I encourage all of you to actively keep a dream journal by your bedside.

Write your dreams, any notes or images you can remember, and give it a title.

And write how you feel when you wake up. You can also speak your dreams into your phone, and record them in your journal at a later date. I believe that only the dreamer can interpret his or her own dreams. Your journal will become your book of personal dream symbols, and a record of your journey through life.

Have fun with your dreams! They are messages from your soul, and give you daily guidance.

When Reiki came into my life in 2011, at that time I was suffering from five herniated disks in my low back and sciatica pain going from my hip and down into my toes. I discovered the answer was always within me, and that I could access this healing potential through simply laying my own hands at any given moment with training. In time, I no longer was in relationship to pain and suffering and I felt deeply connected to a new way of life — naturally, without surgery.

Today, I embody this natural healing gift called Reiki in providing treatments or training, so that others can reclaim vital life-force energy and achieve the most authentic source of euphoria from within. Reiki is for all ages and health conditions, and lasts a lifetime.

Talking About Your Sex Life

By Niyaso Carter Make your lovemaking the natural high it can be!

There is no better experience of euphoria than a good, long, sensual lovemaking session with someone you love and adore.

So why is this most exquisite high not more readily accessible for more people?

I teach a lot of sensual lovemaking practices, but I don’t feel that it’s primarily a lack of technique that keeps us longing for the ecstasy that we know can be found with our beloved. I believe the biggest missing factor is that, as a society, we lack sexual communication skills. We may be amazing communicators in other areas, yet we get so shy and tongue-tied when it comes to saying what we like in bed.

My assignment for you today is: Talk more about your sex life! Find words for what you like and dare to ask for it.

Consider the following:

• Avoid saying what you don’t like.

When a touch that doesn’t feel good happens, redirect in that moment. Right then and there, ask for something that would feel better.

• Practice putting into words what you like — in your own time, in your own head. Ideally, you would even journal about it until you feel like you can say it in a coherent sentence without making anyone wrong. Often, especially my women clients say, “But I don’t know what to ask for!” In that case I usually suggest, “Imagine that you were absolutely required to ask for something, anything. What might it be?”

• Fantasize. Try out different ideas. If you could say nothing wrong, what would you ask for? Even a tiny, specific change can make a huge difference.

Euphoria As Pleasure

By Rhonda Felix The dictionary describes euphoria as the experience of pleasure, excitement, and intense feelings of wellbeing and happiness. Euphoria can be experienced though addictive drugs, but also through some social activities, romantic love and sexual experiences. I enjoy learning the official definition of a word to see if it matches my own understanding of the word.

I associate euphoria with pleasure — not so much pleasure of the senses, but of the ‘whole being.’ As a practitioner who works with people, I experience euphoria when I’m connected to my inner source — that place of knowing — and the energy flows through me to help bring about a shift in another human being.

For me, euphoria is to feel that connection with another human being, and to know that it is in fact not ‘me’ doing anything; rather, the healing power is in the energy flowing through me. It is not personal. This can be a shared experience in that the person I am working with often becomes aware of the shift of energy that helps bring them to a place of ‘letting go.’ The words ‘letting go’ resonate for me in describing the experience of euphoria.

So, as a practitioner, I experience euphoria when I can ‘let go’ and move my own ego out of the way for the healing energy to move through me, and into the client who is open enough to receive that energy. It’s amazing to be part of the cycle of giving and receiving in this beautiful way.

Spring Into Life

By Maurgana Stiastny Can you feel the change of the seasons? Even though it is subtle on the islands, it is still palpable. In Chinese medicine, springtime is the time of the liver. Traditionally it is a good time to cleanse.

The element is wood; think of strong trees growing tall. The color is green. The direction is East like the rising Sun. A new day, a new you! Do you want a spring in your step? A good spring cleanse may do the trick.

Toxic exposure and chemicals have really become a plague of our time. Many toxins mimic hormones which disrupt the endocrine system and can cause symptoms such as depression, fatigue, sleep problems, resisting weight loss, and many diseases.

After many generations, so much progress has been made in the field of detoxification. I like to say to people, “We change the oil in our car, and doing a cleanse is much like that for our bodies.”

Many people pick up extra weight over the holidays and want to shed pounds. But detoxifying will also help you to feel lighter in your moods as well. There are many different types of cleanses and lengths of cleanses. A cleanse generally involves ‘giving up’ things that we like to indulge in, but it can really feel so good. You can have better sleep, better digestion and more energy.

Maldigestion, malabsorption, and chronic imbalances in flora all contribute to the overall state of one’s health. It is essential to balance flora and gut health before embarking on a cleanse. One must make sure that the bowels are functioning well and that gut health is good. Also, one must consider the functional capacity of the liver to detox.

Many cleanses are available on the market, and some are better than others. Choosing the correct type of cleanse is important.

We have to consider our lifestyle and what we are able to do. To choose the best cleanse, you may want to consult with your health professional. Also, a cleanse is important to instill good habits for the future.

Mastering Euphoria

By Heather Solarie Some things in life come naturally. We don’t need to think to make them happen. Other things can become natural to us. In time, with regular practice, we can master the skills and abilities we desire. The world is full of people who have dedicated their lives to mastering different things. Usually this process of mastery comes gradually, over time.

The felt sense of euphoria can come over us spontaneously. Suddenly, life presents us with certain events we feel so good about, that we are overcome with euphoria. However, just like anything else in life, the experience of euphoria or any other emotion can be mastered through regular practice. We can train ourselves to feel better regularly — moment by moment, hour by hour, day by day.

We are energetic beings living in an energetic world. Our physicality is a representation of this energy experienced through our five senses. Our thoughts are also energy forms.

Our emotions are representational experiences of our thoughts. Emotions are not random. ‘Emotions’ are energy in motion. The quality of our E-motions is determined by the thoughts we think. Our thoughts repetitively generate chronic emotionalized states.

Simply put, when we think thoughts that feel good, we generate positive emotions. When we think thoughts that feel bad, we generate uncomfortable emotions.

Making a choice to tune into our E-motions, recognizing them as valuable feedback from our deeper mind, we can learn to become aware of our innate power to create high quality emotions and to feel good at any time regardless of the circumstances. We can develop the skills and abilities over time through monitoring our emotions and their corresponding thoughts and beliefs. By consistently guiding ourselves to feel better and better, we raise ourselves higher and higher, eventually cultivating the mastery of our emotions and even the mastery of euphoria.

Sharing About Getting “Stoned”

By Judy Levy I just returned from the fabulous and enormous Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, and I’m still “stoned!” What a privilege to gather with joyful people from across the globe who are in love with the diverse crystal specimens that make up this glorious planet. This was my sixth time, and I took my first “tour group” to experience the show.

Mother Earth seems to offer up new gems and minerals every few years, as if She feels our evolutionary progress and says, “Okay, you are ready to discover this new mineral now that you have come to this level of consciousness.”

This year we learned about black amethyst from Uruguay. A druzy kind of amethyst, it has blackish tinge and gorgeous tones of purple peeking through. Apparently, Gaia presented this now to help us with our collective shadow work. Indeed, sitting with my own new acquisition, I can tap into some of the suppressed old anger and disappointments in my life more easily, and process them out of my cellular memory.

New Options Explored For When Your Time On Earth Ends

By Bodhi Be ‘Going home’ is a phrase I often hear at the bedside of the dying. While I understand the sentiment, these words have deep implications.

Do they mean that Earth is not our home? Does this come from the teachings of some religions that God is somewhere else? If we are ‘just passing through’ like tourists, could that explain why the Earth is in its current condition?

Many indigenous peoples experience all of nature to have sentience, conscious awareness, spirit essence; and they recognize that creator and creation are not separate. Holiness is found right here, right now, embedded in this moment and this place.

Cremation has now surpassed burial as the most common practice in the U.S. for the final act of humans — in spite of the amount of energy, as fossil fuel, it takes to cremate a body; and in spite of the gases, heavy metals and carbon emitted into the air.

As far as I can see, there are three reasons cremation is popular now. First, the financial cost is often a fraction of burial cost. Second, the current model of cemetery is an outdated model. As nomadic peoples, we buried our people along the trail as we followed the hunt or the herd. When we settled in homes, grandma was buried in the backyard and later in the church’s graveyard.

More recently, as we moved to towns and cities, secular cemeteries entered the scene. Over one million acres of land in the U.S. are now utilized for the single purpose of burials, and removed from the public commons forever.

The third reason has only recently come to light for me. We have lost our connection to the bones of our people. In the U.S., on average, people move their residence every five years.

Most of us no longer visit the graveside of the bones of our people. One of the effects is that we ‘lose’ grandma, the most common word spoken when someone dies. We lose and have lost our connection to the ancestors. Our common assumption is they no longer need us and they are no longer here.

Green burial has been the common practice for thousands of years — a simple cloth shroud, a simple wooden box, a hole often 2-3 feet deep where organisms and microorganisms are active but deep enough to prevent animals from digging up a body. Maybe a tree is planted on the grave. Conservation burial grounds have taken green burial further, often partnering with a land stewardship organization to utilize a cemetery as an economic engine to protect and maintain open space and to integrate agriculture, reforestation and regeneration.

The Earth has cradled us all our life. It holds our homes, schools, churches, parks, gardens and more. It feeds us in so many ways. No matter what we eat, it comes from the Earth. What is in the dirt in your garden? Lots of dead things.

Along with minerals from ground rock are the bones and remains of millions of seen and unseen once-living creatures.

In witnessing the cycles and flow of nature, we see life and death in a continuous dance, inseparable. Death feeds life. We, as nature and in harmony with nature, gladly return our bodies to the Earth as an offering to feed that which has fed us our entire lives. Going home.

By Christine Warren Visionary living begins with knowing who you are — a limitless, creative Being; a powerful expression of Source. Your “I am” is the universal Source within, bringing you positive possibilities when aligned with it. You align to your Source with your thinking and speech. When you make “I am” statements, you align energetically to what you believe, then amplify that in your life. What you deeply believe returns in resonance in your life experience.

What you frequently say you feel and are, you become. “I am frustrated” produces frustration, a feeling that things are not aligned and flowing well for you, which then brings more misaligned events into your experience. “I am in peace” produces a state of peace in you. “I am unconditional love” brings unconditional love, spreading light and positive energy to the world. “I am connected to the great Source guiding my life” potently connects you to your Source. “I am the Divine presence governing all things” amplifies the highest potential for deep guidance and great outcomes in all you do.

When normal human emotions of being crabby, upset or negative surface, greet them, then allow them to pass on. Remember that you, not your circumstances, direct your state of Being. Take charge by practicing positive “I am” statements of Being, replacing false thoughts and old beliefs that strengthen what you don’t wish to be.

You are the light of the world. You are a great Being, connected to the vast cosmic energy that nourishes everything on earth. Align to your Higher Self, speak with positive “I am” statements, and watch your state of Being shift!

By Gayle Barklie When that infamous text alert informed us that missiles were heading toward Hawaii, my first thought was: This is real, this is it. That was closely followed by: Am I right with God, my world, my family, my friends? When the answer was a resounding yes, I took a shower and then texted everyone I know, expressing love and gratitude.

For me, being face-to-face with imminent death was an experience of euphoria.

Whether it’s through a rollercoaster ride, having sensational sex or witnessing a breathtaking sunset, so many of us are on a constant search for that feeling of euphoria.

There are two problems with this externally sourced quest. First, if and when we find it, it’s usually transitory. The rollercoaster ride ends, the sex is done, and the sunset turns to night sky.

Second, because euphoria is rather uncommon in mundane existence, the hunt becomes addictive. Like the craving for drugs, we seek that feeling constantly and will do or try anything to replicate it.

In working with clients caught on that futile pursuit, I find that what they’re really seeking is their unique purpose — the calm, empowering, inexplicable bliss when they get in touch with why they are here, what their life is about, who they truly are.

Nothing surpasses the exhilaration of unfolding to what we’re meant to do, listening to our heartfelt messages, making a difference even in small ways. That’s when true You-phoria settles in and takes permanent, consistent residence. Everything, even the mundane, can be euphoric if you choose to perceive it that way.

You don’t have to experience an existential threat to experience euphoria.

It might be easier (and safer) to just find your soul purpose.
