In two decades, Matthew Davis, also known professionally as Matt Davis, can already use those words to define his acting career, portraying roles from leading man to villain in the Hollywood film and television industry..

Matthew Davis was born in Salt LakeCity, Utah and raised in nearby Woods Cross. During high school, he became known for his charisma, but never considered a career in acting until he attended the University of Utah, where he took theatre classes that inspired his passion for the performing arts.

With the love and support of his parents, Davis moved to New York City to pursue a theater career, encountering the unique and direct relationship with an audience, which only further impassioned him to pursue acting. As he transitioned into on screen acting roles, Davis furthered his training by moving to Los Angeles to attend The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena, California.

Thankfully Davis’ hard work and determination paid off, catapulting him to recognition for his versatility. One of Matthew Davis’ most notable film roles includes his performance as Warner Huntington III, the love interest of Reese Witherspoon in the comedy Legally Blonde (2001).

During his early career, Davis standout film credits include his debut role as a sensitive soldier in Tigerland (2000) starring Colin Farrell, Pearl Harbor (2001) opposite Ben Affleck, and a role as a professional football player in Blue Crush (2002), with Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez.

Davis also starred in independent films like Lone Star State of Mind (2002) where he portrayed a gay cowboy and Heights (2005), where he played a romanticallychallenged New Yorker.

Recently, Davis has focused on TV roles. His breakout performance in TV came when he portrayed lawyer Adam Hillman on the ABC comedy-drama What About Brian for two seasons, starting in 2006.

Matthew Davis’ next big role saw him portray Alaric Saltzman, a history teacher and vampire hunter, in the hit CW fantasy drama series The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017). He later reprised the role for the TV series The Originals (2017-2018) and since 2018 continues to portray the leading character in another series spinoff, Legacies.

Davis' television career includes a five-episode arc on Damages (2009-2010) as Josh Reston, the roles of Jeff Sefton in the mystery and horror drama series Cult (2013). He’s also noted for his recurring run as Sean Yeager on the CBS police drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2013-2014).

Holding over thirty acting credits to his name, Matthew Davis is frequently tapped by Hollywood for his adaptability and insights into performing a variety of dramatic characters. Throughout his career, he has appeared on many ComicCon panels and has spoken at The Paley Center for Media to promote his work.
