PHILADELPHIA CHINESE LANTERN FESTIVAL We are very glad to present the Third Edition of Chinese Lantern Festival which took place in Philadelphia to our readers! Philadelphia famous as “The City of Brotherly Love” for its welcoming, quiet and lovely nature and “the nest of American spirit” is the suitable place where this event can be organised. Nowadays it keeps embodying the principles and values of its Great Founder, William Penn, who realised it as “Utopia”, the ideal city in which men live together in harmony, supporting each other and fair trade and fair justice are provided to the people by an enlighted government. This idea of equality between men and the right to the same freedom was carried out by legendary figures as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklyn e John Adams. This year the demand of tickets was so extraordinary that the Festival was prolonged and it registered a record number of vendors/exhibitors and of visitors, becoming almost a classic of Philly Summer calendar at this point. The Festival pays homage to the millennial Chinese tradition and expertise differentiated by their crafting lanterns with just bamboo and fabrics, representing any kind of object from animals to flowers, from castles to fantastic beasts, from insects to birds. Watching these objects, the public composed of children and adult people can approach the Chinese ancient culture, which used to be considered away from us, but now, by tecnologies and modern initiatives, as this Festival, is becoming more reachable and understandable. At a time when the sun hit the orizon the lanterns are lighted up and all of a sudden all the shapes and the figures look like they come to life, and as the light around fades away, the colors of the lanterns become brighter. You can admire Chinese fine workmen creating miniature works or using the most extravagant materials (brown sugar, tea leaves, sand etc.), and stage performers who enact some of the most famous Chinese arts, as acrobatic, contortionism, dance and costume transformation. This year among the most significant pieces we mention the Dragon’s Gate and the entrance of the Franklyn’s Square Park, the Lantern Castle (this year homaging the Dog, 2018 Chinese n Zodiac) and the gigantic Blue Dragon..

Siamo molto lieti di presentare ai nostri lettori la terza edizione del Festival delle Lanterne Cinesi svoltosi a Philadelphia! Philadelphia famosa come “la città dell’amore fraterno”, per il suo carattere accogliente, tranquillo e incantevole e “nido dello spirito americano” rappresenta il luogo adatto dove organizzare l’evento. Ancora oggi la città incarna i principi e i valori del suo grande fondatore William Penn che l’ha realizzata sulla base dell’”Utopia”, la città ideale in cui gli uomini vivono in armonia sostenendosi a vicenda e il governo illuminato fornisce al popolo un commercio equo e giusto e una giustizia equa per tutti. Quest’idea di uguaglianza tra gli uomini e diritto alle stesse libertà è stata portata avanti poi da personaggi leggendari come George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklyn e John Adams. Quest'anno la richiesta dei biglietti è stata talmente elevata che la durata del festival è stata prolungata e si è registrato un numero record di venditori / espositori e visitatori, trasformando l’evento in un classico del calendario estivo. Il Festival rende omaggio alla millenaria tradizione ed abilità artigiana cinese che si distinguono per la creazione di lanterne usando solo bambù e tessuti, rappresentando ogni tipo di oggetto dagli animali ai fiori, dai castelli alle bestie fantastiche, dagli insetti agli uccelli. Osservando queste opere il pubblico formato da bambini e adulti si può avvicinare alla cultura millenaria cinese, un tempo considerata lontana, ma che ora, grazie alle tecnologie e alle iniziative moderne come questo Festival, sta diventando più raggiungibile e comprensibile. Nel momento in cui il sole raggiunge l’orizzonte vengono accese le lanterne e all’improvviso tutte le forme e le figure sembrano assumere vita, e mentre la luce del giorno si spegne, i colori delle lanterne diventano più luminosi. Si possono ammirare abili artigiani cinesi intenti a creare opere in miniatura o che prevedono l’uso di materiali più disparati (zucchero di canna, foglie di tè, sabbia ecc.), e artisti che mettono in scena alcune delle più famose arti cinesi, come il circo, il contorsionismo, la danza e la trasformazione dei costumi. Quest’anno tra le fantastiche opere degne di nota citiamo il Cancello del Drago e l'ingresso del parco Franklyn's Square Park, il Castello di Lanterne (che quest'anno ha omaggiato il Cane, il segno per il 2018 dello zodiaco cinese) e il gigantesco Drago Blue. n
