In a landmark moment for the UAE’s food production and industrial sectors, Al Ain Farms Group (AAFG) was officially launched at the “Make it in the Emirates” Forum 2025. The announcement brings together five of the country’s most iconic dairy, poultry, juice and egg brands — Al Ain Farms, Marmum Dairy, Al Ajban Chicken, Al Jazira Poultry Farm’s Golden Eggs, and Saha Arabian Farms — under a single, united banner.
Backed by Ghitha Holding, a publicly listed conglomerate spanning agriculture, food production and distribution sectors, and Yas Holding, a renowned Abu Dhabi-based, multi-industry investment company, AAFG brings decades of operational strength to serve
as a national platform focused on protein and beverages, with the scale and vision to serve broader regional needs. This historic consolidation is a significant milestone in a journey that began in 1981, when the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan established the farm with 200 cows –bringing, for first time in the nation’s history, access to fresh milk for its people. What started as a single dedicated entity serving the nation has evolved into a unified group of trusted UAE brands, expanding to meet growing regional demand for highquality protein and beverages. Today, that commitment to self-reliance has transformed into a national pillar of food
sovereignty—one that is rooted in legacy, driven by purpose, and built for global impact.
HE Tareq Abdulraheem Al Hosani, Chairman of AAFG, said the launch of AAFG marks an important step in the UAE’s long-term food strategy, as outlined by the nation’s Food Security Strategy 2051 and National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology, to become a regional hub for operational excellence and innovation.
Al Ain Farms Group reflects the UAE’s ambition to lead the region in quality, sustainability, and innovation deeply rooted in our national identity.

In the past quarter, Fancom reached a special milestone: the largest control panel in Fancom’s history was built. This impressive control panel was realised for the automation of a modern layer house and consists of no less than six separate cabinets. Together, they form an integrated solution for climate control, feeding, egg collection and lighting in two house sections.
The control panel is built entirely according to smart
wiring technology. This means that the entire system is first designed digitally in 3D. Based on this design, a digital wiring list is automatically generated. Thus, the cabinet is first built virtually before it is physically assembled.
The corresponding cable sets are produced by a wire terminal and are custom-made: fitted with ferrules, sorted by order of assembly, by colour and diameter, and with wiring information printed on the cables. This smart working method results in error-
free, efficient production and installation.
The control panel contains a complete Fancom automation system, divided into the following components:
• Cabinet 1: Main distribution with power supplies (400A)
• Cabinet 2: Climate and feeding system for section 1
• Cupboard 3: Egg collection for 2 aviaries/nests + external egg collection
• Cabinet 4: Lighting for both sections
• Cabinet 5: Climate and feeding system for section 2
• Cupboard 6: Egg collection for 2 aviaries/nests + external egg collection
A total of as many as 2,989 unique wires were incorporated into this project.

With increasing pressure on global food supplies, finding innovative ways to feed a growing population has never been more critical—especially when it comes to finding new sources of protein. Calysseo, a joint venture between Adisseo—a global leader in animal nutrition feed additives—and Calysta, a pioneer in producing food from microorganisms for fish and livestock, is at the heart of efforts to develop nutritious protein products that preserve biodiversity by using no arable land, plant, or animal products—next-generation food.
The joint venture launched its production facility in China to
develop an innovative feed solution for aquaculture, ensuring a dedicated supply for the Asian market, which represents 70% of the global demand. Calysseo creates protein products from microorganisms through biomass processing. In simple terms, gases are fed to microorganism in a tank- a bioreactor -, which turns them into microbial protein. In the
separation stage, the bacterial biomass is isolated from the liquid to make it into a protein product, and this is where Calysseo singled out the unique Alfa Laval PureFerm Bactofuge™ centrifuge as the piece of equipment that would fulfil their mission to make more with less.

The recent outbreaks of footand-mouth disease (FMD) in Europe and the introduction of an exotic virus strain into the Near East underscore the urgent need for early detection and enhanced biosecurity measures to minimize the impacts of the disease, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
“FAO is recommending urgent biosecurity measures and enhanced surveillance following the recent detection of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) serotype SAT1 in Iraq
and Bahrain. This serotype is exotic to the Near East and West Eurasia regions, raising serious concerns about the potential spread of the virus,” FAO said in an alert.
FMD is a highly contagious viral disease affecting clovenhoofed animals, including cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and various wild species. It is typically characterized by fever and blisters in the mouth and on the feet accompanied by lameness. Although few adult animals succumb to disease, young animals may die from sudden heart failure. The virus spreads
rapidly and can affect large numbers of animals, especially in countries or regions that are usually free of the disease or do not regularly use vaccination.
While not a public health threat, FMD severely impacts animal health and welfare, food security and livelihoods by reducing livestock productivity, including through lower milk and meat yields.
Although FMD is endemic in the Near East, there has been a recent upsurge in outbreaks caused by an exotic serotype that was likely introduced from East Africa. So far, cases have been reported by Bahrain, Iraq and Kuwait, though other countries in the Near East and West Eurasia regions are at a high risk of being affected.

How targeted nutrition helps poultry cope with heat stress and maintain efficiency
By: Dr Stephanie Ladirat
Heat stress is a significant challenge for the poultry industry, with considerable economic consequences. As temperatures rise, poultry experience physiological changes that can compromise their health and productivity. Heat stress leads to increased inflammation and metabolic disorders, which adversely affect the digestive system and reduces feed intake, ultimately diminishing growth and performance.
One of the primary mechanisms through which heat stress negatively impacts poultry is the activation of the body's inflammatory response. Inflammation in the gut can lead
to impaired nutrient absorption and digestive capacity, reducing feed efficiency and weight gain. Additionally, heat stress causes physiological changes such as increased respiration rates, altered blood circulation, and hormone imbalances, which further inhibit optimal production. The result is a loss of profitability for poultry farmers due to reduced growth rates, lower feed conversion ratios (FCR), and, in extreme cases, increased mortality rates.
Nuqo RED is a cutting-edge feed additive designed to mitigate the detrimental effects of heat stress on poultry. This new hybrid technology is based on microencapsulation of capsaicin, the active molecule in chili peppers, known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties. Capsaicin is an effective molecule that helps regulate inflammation, but its high irritancy has traditionally made it difficult to use in feed formulations.
To overcome this challenge, Nuqo developed a unique encapsulation technology that
ensures the safe use of capsaicin. Nuqo RED encapsulates the capsaicinoids in a fat-based coating, preserving their activity while minimizing the risk of irritation for operators and animals. In addition, this technology ensures that capsaicin reaches the small intestine in its active form to act on specific gut receptors, the TRPV1 receptors. The result is a highly efficient and user-friendly product that reduces inflammation, enhances thermoregulation, and improves overall performance during heat stress.
The key mechanism of action of Nuqo RED is its ability to modulate the TRPV1 receptors, which are involved in the body’s response to heat stress. TRPV1 receptors play a critical role in detecting harmful heat levels and initiating inflammatory responses. By desensitizing these receptors, capsaicin reduces the inflammatory response and supports the body's natural ability to cope with heat stress. When TRPV1 receptors are desensitized, the inflammatory
response is dampened, leading to improved gut morphology and better nutrient absorption. Moreover, desensitization helps the animals better acclimate to heat stress, rather than hindering their thermoregulation ability. This unique action helps maintain performance even during extreme temperatures, allowing poultry to continue to grow and produce efficiently. Additionally, Nuqo RED's micro-encapsulation technology ensures that the capsaicinoids are delivered in a controlled and efficient manner, enhancing the product’s bioavailability and stability. This makes Nuqo RED a reliable solution for heat stress management in poultry farming.
Extensive Scientific Support: Proven Through Multiple Trials Anti-Inflammatory Effects in vitro
An in-vitro study conducted
at the University of Wels, Austria, assessed the anti-inflammatory effects of Nuqo RED. The trial involved challenging macrophages with lipopolysaccharides (LPS) to induce an inflammatory response. The results demonstrated that Nuqo RED effectively reduced the production of proinflammatory cytokines, including Interleukin 6 (IL-6) and Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-α), compared to the LPS control group. The highest anti-inflammatory efficacy was observed at 50 ppm, confirming Nuqo RED’s ability to modulate inflammation and support better gut health during stress conditions.
Performance and Stress Level Improvement in Broilers
A comprehensive trial conducted at Ridgeway Research under the supervision of Dr. Maggie Fisher evaluated the effects
of Nuqo RED on broiler chickens subjected to heat stress. The study involved four treatment groups, including a thermoneutral control (TN-C), a heat-stress control (HS-C), and two groups supplemented with Nuqo RED at different doses
(50 ppm and 150 ppm).
Results showed that broilers fed with Nuqo RED at 50 ppm showed improved feed intake (ADFI) and weight gain (ADG), recovering about half of the weight gain compared to the TN-C group. The highest improvement in performance was observed in birds fed with Nuqo RED at 150 ppm, which achieved feed intake levels comparable to the TN-C group and the best weight gain of all treatments. Additionally, the feed conversion ratio (FCR) improved by 1.3% in the 150 ppm group, showing a clear dosedependent effect.
Moreover, the trial also measured stress biomarkers such as heat shock protein (HSP70) in liver tissue and levels of
corticosterone and Glutathione Peroxidase (GSH-Px) in blood samples. Nuqo RED at 150 ppm significantly reduced the HSP70 levels, indicating a lower stress level in the birds. These results suggest that Nuqo RED not only improves performance under heat stress but also helps mitigate the physiological impact of stress on poultry.
A third trial conducted at the Applied Animal Research Centre of Yucatan, Mexico, tested Nuqo RED in laying hens under natural heat stress conditions. The results showed that Nuqo RED at 150 ppm improved the feed intake, laying performance
and feed efficiency of the hens compared to a competitor phytogenic product with claims of anti-inflammatory properties. This trial further confirmed the efficacy of Nuqo RED in managing heat stress in poultry and demonstrated its superior performance over other heat stress management solutions.
In conclusion, Nuqo RED has proven to be a highly effective tool for mitigating the negative impacts of heat stress on poultry performance. Its unique microencapsulation technology allows for the safe and efficient delivery of capsaicinoids, which helps reduce inflammation, improve gut health, and enhance thermoregulation.
The results from the three trials demonstrate that Nuqo RED not only improves performance metrics such as feed intake, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio but also reduces stress levels in poultry during heat stress. Moreover, its dose-dependent effects provide flexibility for farmers to tailor the supplementation to their specific needs.
By incorporating Nuqo RED into poultry diets, farmers can ensure better growth, feed efficiency, and overall profitability, even under challenging heat stress conditions. With its proven efficacy and complementary modes of action, Nuqo RED is an essential tool for maintaining poultry performance and optimizing farm operations during periods of heat stress.

As part of the natural production cycle, performance declines over time. Keeping hens healthy and productive for longer is not only beneficial for animal welfare – it also makes sound economic sense.
Declining egg production, reduced shell stability and rising disease pressure often lead to an earlier culling than would actually be necessary. This is neither profitable nor sustainable, especially in light of rising pullet and rearing costs. The better option: comprehensive support that helps maintain laying performance well beyond peak.
Anta®Phyt positively influences the gut microbiome. The antimicrobial properties of hops improve resistance to a range of gram-positive pathogens. At the same time, it promotes a larger and more resilient intestinal surface –which leads to better feed conversion and improved egg quality. Why is this important? A larger gut surface increases the absorption of minerals such as calcium. More calcium = stronger egg shells.
“ANTA®PHYT POSITIVELY INFLUENCES THE GUT MICROBIOME. THE ANTIMICROBIAL PROPERTIES OF HOPS
IMPROVE RESISTANCE TO A RANGE OF GRAMPOSITIVE PATHOGENS. AT THE SAME TIME, IT PROMOTES A LARGER AND MORE RESILIENT INTESTINAL SURFACE –WHICH LEADS TO BETTER FEED CONVERSION AND IMPROVED EGG QUALITY.”
APRIL-JUNE 2025
A targeted feeding strategy supports digestion, metabolism and the immune system – enabling hens to stay productive for longer. At the same time, extending the productive life of laying hens helps build trust in a more sustainable and animal-friendly poultry industry.
A highly effective way to unlock the full potential of older hens is Anta®Phyt, a plant-based feed additive made from hops and liquorice extracts. This triedand-tested combination supports gut health, performance and resilience.
Another key benefit comes from the immune-modulating compounds in liquorice. These help hens manage inflammation and infections more effectively. Thanks to this broad range of action, Anta®Phyt naturally promotes productivity and animal welfare.
• Anta®Phyt improves egg quality and laying performance in older hens
• Anta®Phyt increases survival and extends the production cycle
Healthy, productive hens are no coincidence – they’re the result of the right nutritional strategy. Anta®Phyt supports older birds naturally, helping them stay fit and efficient for longer.

Milk production is an essential agricultural produce in almost all the countries in the world. Up to a billion people in the world live on farms and make a livelihood through dairy and dairy produce. It is an indispensible part of the global food system and plays a significant role in sustaining development in rural areas. It is a well-known fact that the dairy industry is actively contributing to the economy of a number of communities, regions and countries. There is a growing demand around the world for globalizing this industry there by increasing scope and intensity of world trade in dairy
products. Global Investment must be considered in to the latest breeding and management techniques of dairy animals so that a sustainable form of economic gain can be achieved. Therefore, in the Middle east, an increased avenue of investments in this sector will ensure food security and viable economic gain. The objective of health management is to ensure optimal care and welfare of dairy cattle to in turn check productivity losses due to mismanagement. Only healthy dairy animals lead to healthy dairy products, which in turn leads to good economic gains.
The period of oestrous cycling occurs every 21 days in a cow
after the period of postpartum anaestrous and for heifers that reach puberty (first ovulation). This means that these estrus cycles give a heifer or cow a chance to get pregnant about every 21 days. There are various best management practices that can be followed in order to ensure that this cycle is taken most advantage of in producing optimum results in dairy production.
Body Conditioning Score is one of the most essential ways of continually monitoring Optimal health and productivity in dairy cattle. This system of scoring (BCS) is directly related to livestock reproduction. If BCS is low or poor, the dairy animal will not attain its peak productivity. BCS is also an indicator of the amount of
energy stored in the dairy animal. Optimum BCS, ensures that energy levels are maintained well enough in the animal to ensure good productivity.
The high-energy transition period for dairy cows, three weeks before and after calving, is of utmost importance, as their metabolic needs increase dramatically during this time. The animal needs to maintain sufficient energy levels in order to cope with this critical period. The performance of dairy cows during the rest of lactation is directly related to how well they cope with this high-energy requirement during the transition phase. This has direct effect on disease and reproduction. Essentially all dairy cows experience a period of insulin resistance, reduced feed intake, negative energy balance, hypocalcemia, decreased immune function, and bacterial contamination of the uterus just before or during the weeks after calving. A third of dairy cows can be affected by some type of metabolic and infectious diseases in early lactation.
Routine, proactive actions, veterinary observations, or analysis are intended to accurately and efficiently provide early detection
of problems, to provide an opportunity for investigation and intervention in order to limit the consequences and costs of health problems and reduce animal performance or welfare. Methods of early detection include monitoring of disease and culling records, feed intake, milk production, body condition, and simple metabolic tests.
Genetic improvement of dairy cows has markedly increased milk yield over the last three decades. Increased production has been associated with reduced conception rate. Because conception rate in dairy heifers has remained higher, the metabolic demands of higher production may be related to the decline in reproductive performance in cows.
During early lactation, increasing dietary intake fails to keep pace with rising milk production. The resultant negative energy balance and rate of mobilization of body reserves appear directly related to the postpartum interval to first ovulation and lower conception rate. Delays in the onset of normal ovarian activity, thus limiting the number of estrous cycles before breeding, may account for the observed decrease in fertility.
Negative energy balance probably acts similarly to under nutrition and may manifest in delayed ovarian activity by impinging on pulsatile secretion of LH. Lower availability of glucose and insulin may also decrease LH pulsatility or limit ovarian responsiveness to gonadotropins. Alternatively, release of endogenous opioids in association with increasing feed intake or other lactational hormone responses may provide neural or pituitary inhibition of the pulsatile LH production that is requisite for ovarian follicular development.
Correlations between
reproductive traits and measures of milk yield indicate that higher yield is associated phenotypically and genetically with reduced reproductive performance in lactating cows. Numerous recent studies have reported that reproductive performance is compromised, primarily through delayed ovarian activity and reduced conception rates, by the demands of high milk yield. However, daily managerial decisions to obtain efficient reproductive performance have considerable impact. Management can offset depression in fertility, because high yielding herds often achieve the fewest days open. Different techniques are used worldwide to improve and maximize production through reproduction in cattle keeping their health as top priority. An increase in research and modern techniques in the Middle Eastern and GCC countries can increase economic gains in this sector; Artificial Insemination, Synchronization of Estrus, Embryo Transfer, Sexed semen, In vitro fertilization, and Cloning. Local dairy farmers can also be empowered to increase their abilities to perform better in the dairy sector by following simple protocols. In a dairy farm, keeping control of these parameters, farmers can maintain the health and reproduction of the herd.

Heat stress is a growing challenge for dairy farmers worldwide. Rising temperatures in combination with high humidity can significantly impact cow health and productivity, leading to lower milk yields, reduced fertility rates, and
increased health risks. Effective cow cooling is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity. That’s why Vostermans Ventilation has developed the Multifan AirBreeze—a solution designed to improve cow comfort even during the hottest days.
The Multifan AirBreeze helps farmers maintain a stable and healthy barn climate, ensuring cows stay cool and productive. By generating consistent airflow at a minimum speed of 2 m/s at cow level, it reduces heat stress,
encourages feed intake, and supports milk production, even in extreme heat.
Available in two versions, farmers can choose the best fit for their barn setup:
• Maximized cooling reach: Ideal for larger barns, moving air across 18 x 5 meters for effective heat stress relief with fewer fans.
• Energy efficiency: A highly efficient solution that optimizes airflow while keeping power consumption low.
A comfortable barn climate is essential for healthy, productive cows. The Multifan AirBreeze is specifically designed with the cow’s needs as the starting point. Built with durability and reliability in mind, designed to withstand dust, moisture, and fluctuating temperatures— delivering long-term performance with minimal maintenance.
For farmers looking to protect their herd’s wellbeing and ensure consistent milk production, effective air circulation is key.
When cows struggle to regulate their body temperature, their feed intake drops, their respiration rates increase, and milk production suffers. The stress of overheating also raises the risk of infections, hoof problems, and fertility issues, affecting long-term herd health and
farm profitability. Without an effective cooling strategy, the consequences can be felt throughout the entire operation—from reduced output to additional veterinary costs.
Ventilation matters all year round. In winter, poor air circulation can lead to death spots, condensation issues, damp bedding, and respiratory problems. The ECplus and Vplus technology allow fans to run at lower speeds in cold conditions, preventing moisture buildup while saving energy.

The importance of colostrum management protocol cannot be over-emphasised, as many scour-related issues on farm directly correlate to insufficient passive transfer.
The ‘3-2-1 Rule’ is worth recalling at this time of year:
1. Offer milk from the dam’s first milking.
2. Within the first two hours of birth.
3. Offer at least three litres (10% of birthweight). Typically, there’s sizeable variation in colostrum quality within a herd, with Teagasc research showing that approximately 20% of a herd may have poor quality colostrum, i.e., insufficient antibodies for the calf. Many farmers have started to test colostrum quality using a refractometer to ensure calves are receiving a high-quality first feed,
with the threshold of a Brix value > 22% being the quality standard.
Pooling colostrum is regularly practised on farm due to labour constraints. However, combining colostrum from several cows increases the risk of disease spread (e.g., Johnes), reduces passive transfer and dilutes highquality colostrum. Therefore, aim to offer calves a ‘one-dam-toone’ calf system to avoid such issues occurring.
It is also important to remember that the calf’s first opportunity to get an infection is through its navel or mouth. Therefore teats, the underbelly of the cow and contact with the calving pen bedding can become a source of infection for a new-born calf. Prolonged time spent in the calving areas is frequently a key issue with disease transfer in herds.
High levels of hygiene are required when collecting, feeding and storing colostrum
with research indicating that clean (no dirt contamination) colostrum allows for increased antibody absorption. Bacterial contamination competes with antibodies at gut level, resulting in reduced passive transfer.
Recent survey results from Moorepark of 48 commerical farms highlighted that stomach tubes and bottles with teats had the greatest quantity of bacteria present.
Excess colostrum can be stored in a fridge at 4°C. However, bacteria will still grow so it can only be refrigerated safely for 2448 hours. It is an all-too-common sight to see buckets of colostrum in the parlour/dairy, where ambient conditions arise, bacterial counts can double every 20 minutes.

Zen'eat and Sani Feed are two complementary products developed by Bioret Agri to improve feeding conditions for dairy cows. Their installation kills three birds with one stone: optimizing feed intake, reducing competition and maintaining optimum hygiene, for the benefit of milk production and animal welfare.
By eliminating the sources of stress associated with competition for feed, Zen'eat enables cows to eat in peace, and get the most out of their ration. Thanks to a dedicated, undisturbed space (the dividers also prevent cows from running onto the step or lying across it), ingestion takes place in complete serenity.
There are no more interruptions, which at the same time encourages complete intake of the ration.
The smaller space allotted to each pair of cows and the incline of the walk also help to straighten the animals. They are then positioned in the ideal axis when feeding. Separating the scraping area from the feeding area also ensures that cows are not inconvenienced by the scraper, while droppings do not soil the step, the length of which has been calculated accordingly.
The rubber coating also makes it easy to maintain, in exactly the same way as a row of cubicles. The non-slip surface also reduces the risk of slipping. A comfortable feeding area, designed to enable cows to be more serene, to ingest
more... and for the farmer to increase his herd's performance.
Sani'feed, a PVC trough cover
The ideal complement to Zen'eat on the other side of the feed fence, Sani feed is a PVC trough cover that guarantees optimum hygiene. Its smooth surface prevents the proliferation of bacteria and facilitates cleaning. It also improves feed intake, as a clean, fresh ration is always more palatable. The results are quickly visible in all equipped barns: cows are calmer, healthier and ruminate more... and above all, more milk in the tank. Another advantage is that the delimitation of spaces guarantees a perfect level of safety when blocking animals in case of intervention (insemination, care...). Last but not least, Sani'feed is easy to install and very affordable.
