SPORT-EDUCATION FACILITY CONCEPT

SC010 ROTTERDAM Concept The SC010 project integrated architecture, building technology, klimatology and structure, challenging TU Delft architecture students for their final bachelors project.

The project is based on a crystal stone. This stone is made up of crystals in the core which is protected by a coarse and rough exterior. The rough facade of the building envelops the segregated but interconnected core. The central atria created by the cuts in the basic form create a place for encounter and interaction between the users of the building. For a variety of users, there are a variety of uses of the atria.

Enclosed boxed facade raps around the building like the rough outside of a crystal stone protects its inside. Solid as it may seem from afar, subtile passage for sight and sun unveils from upclose.

Inside the cuts in the crystal stone, the atria - meant for social encounters, you can experience the layers of the cut through crystals - as the floors reconnect to eachother through walkways and connecting floors.

SCULPTURE PARK AND NEW ENTRANCE ESCHER MUSEUM, THE HAGUE

M.C. ESCHER

Concept The project was to design the new underground access and public sculpture square for the Escher Museum in The Hague, The Netherlands, using Rhinoceros and Grasshopper. The area is designed as a tribute to the globally known works of M.C. Escher, in which infinity and repetition play a significant role.

The idea behind the public park was not to have a clear start or end point, as the works of Escher had neither, creating the infinity shaped structure of the park. The park is made out of a repetition of 500 mm x 500 mm blocks, only varying in height, creating the everlasting infinite shape. To make (more) accessible for human use, wider steps have been introduced, dividing walking paths from areas were sculptures ought to be placed.

UNIVERSITY HIGHSCHOOL New building for one of the best preforming high schools of Australia, the University Highschool in Melbourne. The building was going to host educational and sport facilities including a library, classrooms, reading areas, break areas and a sporthall the size of two Australian handball courts.

THE UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

SHAPING EDUCATION Learing atmosphere for a new generation of students

Concept The project was to design the new building for the University Highschool in Melbourne, Australia. The school is ranked as one of the best preforming highschools in Australia, preparing 300 students every year for their freshman years in university.

The concept was to devide the main functions as highlighted in the design brief, education, sport and leasure, and to reconnect these through a connecting roof, creating challenging learning atmospheres for the well preforming students.

Leasure area The required height of 15 meters from floor to the roof is only needed and reached in centre of the sports hall. That allowed whole volume of the space to decrease.

Connected to the outside stands is the leasure or break area, where the roof creates an ‘open’ atmosphere to the space.

Lifted up from the ground is the 1800 m2 sports hall, also to be used in big sportingevents. Underneath, all the sportsfacilities including dressingrooms, showers and a gym.

DE MARIAHOEVE RECONNECTING A SEGREGATED NEIGHBOURHOOD

Concept The inhabitants of the neighbourhood of Mariahoeve in The Hague are living a segregated life from eachother. Even residents inside the same building block live cross purposes. To enhance the connection in the segregated community the renovation of the building block is literally and figuratively going to wrap the building, and so its residents, together.
