AN EMERGING MARKET OPPORTUNITY
POLLINATORS Gamma
Midseason pollinizer. Short pollen shedding length. Should have 1 Eta tree for every 100 Jefferson trees and 3 Eta trees for every 100 Yamhill trees. EFB resistant Gene
A highly blight resistant, possibly immune, hybrid selection. It is very productive and a relatively large plant. Will grow well in Zones 6 and 7. Nuts are large, round and well-filled with a clean firm kernel. Nuts ripen mid-October. Nuts drop clean from the husk. It has moderate resistance to bud mite. We recommend 20 Gene trees per acre (high density planting)
Norfolk (C-16)
A variety developed in Ontario with early shedding pollen and medium, oval nuts that have some difficulty shedding their skin. Has a good hazelnut flavour and shells very easily. Very cold hardy, up to Zone 4 and wherever black walnuts can grow. Kernel quality acceptable for fresh market and processed market, especially in pastes and chopped uses. Highly EFB resistant and good catkin hardiness. 20 C-16 trees recommended per acre (high density planting).
Chelsea (C-28)
A variety developed in Ontario with late shedding pollen and small, oval nuts that shed their skin easily. Has an excellent hazelnut flavour, ideal for fresh market. Kernels are also good for processing into paste and for chopped uses. Very cold hardy, up to Zone 4 and wherever black walnuts can grow. Highly EFB resistant and good catkin hardiness. 20 C-28 trees recommended per acre (high density planting).
