The question of hostil design and defensive architecture seems to be a topic more and more important in public debates. However, this controversial design is not a new phenomenon but a slow transformation of “classical” urban design since the 60s, period where the concept appeared. This thesis propose a research on the topic focused on the concepts of hostil object and public space. Indeed, those new objects setted up in our cities are related to different problematics such as security, economy but also urbanism and sociology. The study of the hostile object asks also a lot of questions about the role of the design in our society in term of esthetic and comfort. Defensive architecture also inspires the artistic community in all the domains, especially the urban hacking.
