Divide a Whole Number by a Decimal Divide a Whole Number by a Decimal Dividing decimal is a process of dividing a decimal value either by a whole number or decimal number. To understand the concept of dividing decimal we need to understand the concept of division and decimal number that clearly describe the concept division of decimal values. In mathematics, decimal can be described as a numeral system which has the base value equal to the ten. In a simple we can define the decimal as a number which has a decimal point between the digits of number. These are the special kind of number which is occurred when the division between the whole numbers left a remainder. To overcome form this problem the concept of decimal number arises. To express the decimal numbers in mathematics depends on the place value of digit. Let’s show below: Suppose there is decimal number 13.44. In the above given number the position of 1 and 3 can be consider as a ten’s and once respectively and the position of 4and 4 shows the tenths and hundredths place value. The value of 0.4 is equal to 4/10 and another value of 0.04 is equal to 4 / 100. As like the other numbers of number system we can also perform the mathematical operation on decimal number. In such kind of category of operations are add, subtract, their product and dividing the decimal value. The above given mathematical operations can also be considered as fundamental operations of number system. Here we are going to discussing about how to divide decimals. The topic of how to divide decimals can easily be performed by two ways that are given below: A ) Divide the decimal number by any whole number. B ) Perform the Division of decimal number by same type of value. It means by other decimal number. In the first case if divisor is a whole number then perform the division as like division between two whole numbers. To perform the task of division user have to ignore the decimal point until operation not get completed. After that we need to put the decimal point directly above decimal point in the dividend. If in second case both values are kind of decimal number then first reduce the decimal point form divisor by multiplying both values with the same number like 10, 100 and so on. Lets show below: 33.4 Here decimal point can be removed by multiplying the number to 10. 33.4 * 10 = 334 When we perform the division between the decimal values then we need to follow some of the steps that are given below: a ) When divisor is a decimal number then we need to move the decimal point to right to make it a whole number and also move the point in dividend at the same number of places. b ) After that perform the normal division between them. c ) when we get final answer then put the decimal point into their right position. Now we show some of the example that easily describes the procedure of division
