SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN 2014-2016
FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome to this exciting time in the ongoing story of Mater Maria and the new three year strategic School Improvement Plan for the College. This follows an extensive consultative process with students, parents and staff. The overarching focus of this plan is to continue the excellent improvement curve the College has travelled on by creating Engaged, Positive, Independent and Connected (EPIC) learners. Mater Maria was founded by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan and it is important that we maintain a vitality and connection with their charism. As a community we have identified the Benedictine values of community, justice, hospitality, spirituality and stewardship as our College values and everyone at the College is called to give witness to these each day. During this strategic period, the primary goal in the area of mission is to strengthen our students’ understanding and commitment to being disciples of Jesus through prayer; service to others and active reflection on the College values. The College is also committed to improved student academic outcomes that further build on the results over the last eight years. Our challenge is to continue this trend and ensure every student is offered the best opportunities for reaching their potential in each area of the curriculum. To do this, parental engagement in their children’s learning is critical and will ensure the productive three-way partnership between each student, their teacher and their parents. The primary Teaching and Learning goal invites staff, students and parents to effectively use data and resources to optimise each student’s learning outcomes. Excellent pastoral care is intrinsic to an education offered within a faith community. At Mater Maria, our aim is to ensure that each student is well known and is provided appropriate support for their spiritual, emotional and academic wellbeing. During this strategic period, in the pastoral care domain, our community seeks to provide a positive, safe learning environment that celebrates students’ success within a connected community. I am looking forward to this exciting time ahead in our College’s school improvement program. May each member - students, parents, staff and friends - be active in realising our strategic goals.
